Finally, a sensible and thought-provoking guide to using David Palladini's still-sensational Aquarian Tarot Deck originally released in 1970. This was the first Tarot I encountered and the one that sparks my intuitive side most dynamically. Until this time, the only book to devote itself completely to this particular deck was "The Windows of Tarot" (1973) by F.D. Graves. While colorfully written, that work simply did not journey deep enough into Palladini's amazing imagery. But author Craig Junjulas, a noted psychic consultant and spiritual educator, has changed all of that with this fine work. His "Psychic Tarot" not only provides eloquent, depth interpretations for each card, but prepares the reader by offering excellent techniques to boost intuition. There is also the addition of an extremely helpful Appendix that includes a wealth of information to expand the cards' meanings even further. Highly recommended! -Michael Orlando Yaccarino, Certified Professional Tarot Reader

... This will be your bible if you, like me, are studying water chemistry. Stumm and Morgan made a compendium of water chemistry, useful, easy, and full of real examples reviewed in detail. Each time I need to find a formula, a factor or constant, or just a quick look for a doubt, the first book I always took is this one. I truly recommend you this book.

Most of us like architectural books because we think, or possibly just dream of building our own ULTIMATE house. Here, however, is a book not on building a house, but on building an entire neighborhood.
It starts with a bit of history, the pattern books written in roman times. It brings them up to date with a survey of several American neighborhoods dating from turn of the century times. And finally it goes on to show what the authors have done as they designed blocks, sub-divisions and the like. It is intended to show what can be done to replace the common cookie cutter houses common in recent developments. It is a fascinating book that leads to thinking.

If you've ever read and loved any of the novels of E. M. Forster, be sure to read this one too. Forster chose not to finish it, but it works brilliantly as a self-contained novella, telling the story of two men who represent different ideals and whose paths cross in surprising ways. Swift, intense, insightful, classic.

The shaman predicted that Howard Rock would become a great man. He was born in 1911 in a sod igloo in Point Hope, an ancient Eskimo village in northwest Alaska where the people had hunted whales and lived off the land for centuries. Instead of becoming a hunter, Howard became an accomplished artist and crusading newspaper editor. He helped defend his people from a controversial Atomic Energy Commission proposal to excavate a harbor near the village with an above-ground atomic blast. Then Rock founded the Tundra Times and helped Alaska's Native people press their aboriginal land claims before Congress, ultimately winning a settlement. Deeply moving.

I started my career in visual effects around the same time the first edition was published and have referenced it constantly through out the 9+ years. I bought the 2nd edition for two reasons, my copy of the first edition was falling apart and nostalgia. I was not expecting much new information and was mostly just looking for an intact copy of the first edition with a few new tidbits here and there. I could not have been more wrong.
The second edition has so much NEW information in it was like reading a time capsule of the technological advances of the last ten years. There is not a topic or subject used in compositing that is not covered here. Only two books have sat on my desk my entire career, the first edition and the cinematographers manual. I have read many books available on visual effects, but none compare, honestly. The main reason for that is complete software independence, not partial, complete.
There is no other book that teaches you the raw knowledge you need to be an artist. Anyone can teach you how to push certain buttons of a specific app, this is the only book that clearly teaches you when to push them and why. Artists in today's marketplace need a deep core knowledge of what the software packages are doing so that they can easily switch to other packages. This is especially true in feature film compositing where the industry is at a point of impasse and there is no clear winner of the package wars, fingers crossed for NUKE ;). There is no standard tool anymore so the best way to stay employable is to know what this book teaches, the math, the science, the art.
This book is chock full of examples, color photos and production examples. Whether you've been at this for a while or are new to the art, own this book. Own it for years and years and years. Yes, it's more expensive then any other book on the subject but it is worth so much more then the others that it will pay for itself very quickly. If you already have the other books, sell them, get this.

Although this is a book about the historical development of that fertile field in Art called "Conceptual", it is really a ground work on understanding and using the ideas found in the history of the field for use on computers and telecomunications devices.
The essays gathered here will give the reader much to think about in how they perceive Art and Technology and the philosophical basis for a new aesthetics.
Once thought passe, the reader will find that the foundations of Conceptual Art is alive and well, and that it is anything but passe with our relationships to new developing technologies.

Best of its kind that I have seen. Mostly full-page full-size facsimiles of exellent work from Gutenberg (an actual-size fold-out folio of the 42-liner) to Rogers. From the Pierpont Morgan Libary, includes many "standards" and many seldom-seens. Must have. (I have two!)
Has been reprinted several times and should not be allowed to fall out of print. Are you listening, David Godine?

why didn't someone think of this sooner? lavin applies forster's literary theories to his own work. she and he come out ahead. as back cover blurb says, she "adds a much needed dimension." and the discussion in this book is "ambitious and stimulating." this book belongs in all major libraries, but also can be used effectively by any reader with an interest in emf.
