More Amazonian bungling!

Yet again the folks at Amazon have bungled matters. The other "review" of this book is in fact a review of (or a puff for) the Penn series of translations of Greek tragedy, not of Euripides' "Selected Fragmentary Plays," a scholarly edition offering Greek texts, English translations, and detailed notes on several of Euripides' fragmentary plays. It should also noted that the book in question is the recently published---and long-awaited---second volume of a work whose first volume appeared in 1995. Eventually, there will be a Loeb Classical Library edition of the major fragments of Euripides, but it is unlikely to replace these volumes of Collard et al., for their very full notes will remain invaluable.

I went to Columbia, with the most prominent 'great books' curriculum still in existence. 25 years later, I'm finding myself re-reading and discussing many of the titles. The Penn Greek Drama series is a handsome library of new translations that give fresh takes on the classics. It's useful to have Euripides on the shelf when you return home from the recent bravura performance by Fiona Shaw as Medea--it settled an argument too on how it 'originally' ended.

Fine account of the famous warrior family.

The Generals Patton, father and son, served their
country for 79 years, altogether, in careers
unsurpassed by any other American military family.
General George S. Patton Jr's life, in particular, has been examined
microscopically, but the section of this work
which recounts his career is enhanced by comments,
for the first time, by his son and daughter.
That alone would make the book worthwhile, but the bulk of the work tells the story of Major General George S. Patton (1923 - ), himself a fine fighting general and one of the best trained officers ever to wear the uniform. Like his father, he was a scholar of his trade who understood that skillful audacity accomplishes the mission with minimal casualties.
Very readable, with invaluable comments by Major General Patton interspersed; photos, bibliography, and index. Highly recommended.

I served in the 2nd Armored Division during MG Patton's tenure. He was an inspiration to many of us. The stories are true and very accurate. I am sure there are a few more that are not in the book! BB

This series is a must for those who are going to do focus group research. The Focus Group kit is the single best "how to do it" manual(s) that I've read on anything. The writing is crisp and clear and the series is filled with "from the trenches" suggestions by authors who have conducted hundreds of focus groups, and who have taught hundreds of others how to do it. The series is thorough and thoughtful. Include is a rich discusion of theoretical topics --such as, how to analyze qualitative data --and very practical suggetions--such as the need for "Duct Tape" and "PZM" microphones. It is far more economic to purchase the kit than the individual books. All the books are useful, however the "Involving Community Members in Focus Groups"--which focuses on using volunteers as moderators and assistants--(for me) was too narrowly cast. I was surprised by the author's advice not to use videotaping--something I've found indispensable in the analysis of focus groups. They advise against videotaping focus groups because it creates a "circus" atmosphere seems dated given the advent of digital video cameras, and how comfortable nearly everyone seems to be about being videtaped (Andy Warhol was right). Having said this, I can't say enough about the series. I am reading it through for the second time and have made an appointment to meet with one of the authors for some recommended "mentoring." I am going to be doing 10 groups next month. I'll be clutching a tape recorder in one hand and this series in the other.

I was one of the testers for Jorj's cookbook. By being one of the recipe testers, I have made many of the recipes in the book. I know how good these recipes are and I still use many of the recipes that I tested (from memory) in my everyday cooking.
Many cookbooks on the market today are written by television stars, people who are highly recognizable by the public. Although sometimes wonderful, what is forgotten is that there are many real cooks out there who have equally fantastic ideas about cooking. Jorj Morgan's recent cookbook, <Fresh Traditions>, is a collection of recipes designed for real people to explore cooking in their own kitchens - to go beyond recreating toward creativity. Her recipes are easy to follow and contain many suggestions for how to "play" with them. Some of the recipes are adaptations of more traditional recipes but even these recipes often have some new twist.
I recommend this cookbook. It will be one that you read and use rather than gathering dust on the shelf or looking beautiful on the coffee table.

In today's world, it is too easy to get caught up in our busy lives and rely on the convenience of take-out foods and eating out. Jorj Morgan's Fresh Traditions offers incentive to get back into the kitchen by way of quick, easy to follow recipes for delicious versions of classic foods. Easy to prepare, Jorj's recipes always call for the freshest ingredients. She also suggests variations in ingredients to take her recipes from classic to contemporary. The appetizer recipes are incredible. I served a few of them recently at a neighborhood get-together and they had rave reviews. They were quick and easy to make, but they tasted and looked like I spent hours in the kitchen! The chicken recipes with their variations on traditional ingredients offer endless ways to prepare your favorite chicken dishes. Fresh Traditions gives plenty of healthy choices and nutritional tips for those, like me, who are watching their weight. This is an all around excellent cookbook!

The author searches out scripture verses and he reflects on these verses, tells his experiences and help me to find meaning in those verses. Being sick is a journey of unknown duration and such a process cannot and may not be hurried. I really encourage people to memorize scripture verses on healing and this book help that. I'm buying this book for five different people:from friends in suffering to doctors.

This is a "must have" book if you are taking statistics. I am presently taking Advance Statistics and I have always had trouble in the correct phrasing of the statistics that I have produced from my studies. I searched and bought many books to help guide me in this area. I was exicted when I read through this book. It not only guides you, it gives specific examples on the correct terminology. I am not yet an expert at writing up statistics but I am much better because of this book.
As a side note, I have also shown it to others in my class, along with my professor, and many are going to order it.

I got this for a quantitative methods class this semester and it's been a helpful guide for explaining how to write up results from statistical output. It provides clear 'how-to' examples and illustrations of individual statistics, as well as explanations of terminology used for reporting results.
If you're new to writing up statistical results, or would like a guide that clearly explains symbols, terminology, what you're supposed to include, and when/where to include it - this is for you.

I attend DeMatha and have the pleasure of knowing Mr.Wootten and can personally say that he is a great coach, teacher, and human being. I think the book does a great job of pointing that out and I would recommend it to anyone interested in basketball and Mr.Wootten's life story,or who is just looking for an interesting and well-written book.

Great story about a great program. Morgan coaches at the infamous Dematha High in Maryland. He is a history teacher their as well. He started there with nothing. For the past 40 years they have something like a 90% win loss ratio. Yet Coach Wooten supposedly keeps it all in perspective. He first stresses God, family, and education. His players include Adrian Dantley, Danny Ferry, Sidney Lowe, Joseph Forte, etc. His most famous win was over Lew Alcindor and Power Memorial in the early 60's.

What sets this book apart and at the top of my recommendation list is the way Michelle Yozzo Drake weaves stories of her personal journey with snippets of wisdom from our mother's into practical advice for being business savvy. As a highly successful executive coach, Drake knows first hand the challenges of balancing home and work, life and play. In the midst of it all she delivers the goods - professionally and through her writing!I have experienced her coaching, which is beyond powerful, and now I have a gem of a book on my desk to come back to again and again.

Drake celebrates what women bring to the workplace--the unique skills we've developed in our own feminine way. She shows us that being women brings some much needed perspectives to the office--and we shouldn't lose that perspective--we should cultivate it.
The stories she shares to teach these lessons are great--moving, funny, full of life--I feel almost like part of her family reading them. My only regret is that I'm too old to be adopted into this family--I found myself longing for the holiday feasts and fun she describes as Drake described the action in Aunt Jenny's kitchen.
