Probably a very taste-specific book for those interested in genealogy and the family, but it was just what I needed to add to my library. Since I have ancestors in this book, I wanted it as a source for my work and to pass down to my children. It is filled with well-researched facts and a few portraits and drawings. It has helped fill in the missing pieces to my puzzle.

MONDAYS ARE RED is a great book for discussion.

Review Date: 2004-07-26
Luke awakens from a near fatal bout with meningitis to find that his senses are profoundly altered. Mondays are red to him, music has smells, and he sees wasps in his sister's hair. It's a condition called synesthesia, thoroughly explained at the end.

Luke is also followed in his mind by the character Dreeg, an evil force that wants him to do things he finds very hard to resist in his weakened state. Dreeg wants him to play increasingly dangerous tricks on his sister Laura, but Luke fights against it. He also begins to see the ethereal Seraphina, who is like a good witch and who appears when he is at his lowest point. Suddenly, he is able to sense that Laura is in real danger and that no else can help her except him.

Nicola Morgan's first novel is an intricate psychological suspense story. Readers will be drawn into the sensory world Luke lives in through powerful language and imagery. They will be drawn in so thoroughly that it is at times difficult to determine who other characters are, real or imagined, and what is actually happening.

Definitely a mind trip, MONDAYS ARE RED is a great book for discussion.

Morgan combines elements of horror and poetry in this tale of one boy's strange experience with synesthesia. After waking up in a hospital and learning that he has suffered a bout of meningitis, Luke Patterson quickly discovers that his life has taken a dramatic and confusing turn. With the help of a newfound imaginary friend named Dreeg whose form changes depending on Luke's feelings toward him, Luke learns that all of his senses are strangely blended. ("The fact that I tasted cinnamon when I looked at her and that every now and then butterflies flittered from her eyes was something I had come to expect by now from my muddled senses.") With this new realization comes the power to change situations by thinking about them, and with that power, a new sense of freedom. Luke now adds a new talent to his long-time passion for running and athletics training-the talent to write astonishingly beautiful and eerie poems and stories. Luke learns the dangers of his new powers just in time to prevent catastrophe in this hallucinogenic tale that is sure to please lovers of language and ignite new ways of thinking about ordinary sensations.

The Book I am doing a review on is, "Mondays Are Red", by Nicola Morgan. This is a story about a fourteen-year-old boy named Luke. Luke wakes up in the hospital with Synthesia (shifting of the senses). He finds out that he almost died from Meningitis. With Synthesia Luke now experiences a world he's never known. When he thinks of days of the weeks, he associates them with color, music with taste, feelings have smells and words have texture. The setting for the book takes place in modern day California. This book follows Luke as he realizes he has power and is faced with a decision to change the world. I absolutely loved this book, and highly recommend it. The author has a gift for bringing out the emotion of his characters.

Outstanding primer for both the new investor and the more experienced investor interested in improving her/his investing savvy.

First, this book illustrates rather convincingly, how investing just a moderate amount of money consistently over a period of time, can build personal wealth beyond most people's highest expectations. Makes it clear that there are no "guaranteed, get rich quick approaches" but that by being patient and investing in any of a broad range of solid investments...."financial serenity" is definitely within reach.

Then, this book explains the basics of personal financial management; including life insurance, real estate, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, REITs, futures, annuities, 401k plans, IRAs and tips to help determine which is right for you. This explanation of the basics, provides a framework which can be used to help individuals determine which investment vehicles fit their personal financial profile/style, and how they can take the first steps in building a personal financial plan which can secure their future.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in improving their financial position in life. It is written by one of the world's leading financial management experts in terms that anyone, from any walk of life/profession can easily understand.

Everybody has their imitators, and some make a career out of it. "My Life as a Bush...and my heart for imitating Jesus" tells the story of a man who has made quite the name for himself impersonating our commander-in-chief. He tells many stories of his life in times and goes to spread on the words of another man he tries to thrive to imitate, free of charge - Jesus Christ. A story from a man with an interesting career with a powerful message, "My Life as a Bush" is a highly recommended and intriguing read.

A Career as an Impersonator - A Call to be an Imitator

Review Date: 2008-08-16
John Morgan shares experiences from his life as a presidential impersonator. As a George W. Bush look alike and with a flare for comedy, John suddenly found himself in the limelight. After hours, weeks, and months of disciplined study of George W. Bush's voice, facial expressions, his stance, his speeches, and personal philosophy John was ready for his first professional assignment.

Since January 2005 John has traveled as "the face" of President George W. Bush, appearing at corporate and faith-based comedic events. He greets his audiences with a Texas drawl in a show that combines hilarious impressions of the president, parody songs, and closes with a message of hope.

In each chapter of the book John relates a professional experience in his role of impersonating George W. Bush. Also, included in each chapter is an unfolding of his testimony as a follower and imitator of Jesus Christ. He uses teaching from the scriptures to parallel his two roles, impersonator and imitator.

I found the featured questions for reflections to be filled with meaningful and thought provoking for further consideration, for action steps, and for devotional journaling. These add another valuable dimension to the book for group study and discussion.

John has teamed with Vince Wilcox to create this entertaining, inspirational, combination of career and calling. Strong writing and a clear message make this an important and timely book in a year when our allegiance to Christ will impact our future and the future of our country.

I really was helped by this honest book about how tough a separation is. He is easy to read and the chapters are short. Each chapter has one big idea with some good illustrations. It is a good read. I found out that the series continues as Surviving The "D" Bomb about divorce and Life Echoes about children's issues. I've shared the book with others who were also helped.

This is a unique book about what it is like to go through a separation. The author combines pain and humor to talk about the experience. Transparent and warm it has you crying and laughing. Remarkable writer. It is a real window on the experience. I've been separated and it was a book where I could keep saying, "Yes" with similar feelings. It is a gift to give anyone going through separation and friends/family to understand. Written from a Christian point of view but not pushy on religion. I hope the author writes more.

As a busy wife responsible for the care and nurturing of so many lives outside my own, it's nice to be reminded that it's "God's job" to hand the "fruit production" in my life - to bestow upon me the fruit of the Spirit. Most days I'm just busy ensuring that four sets of teeth get brushed after every meal - the thought of being loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle and exercising self control can be daunting. Thank goodness for encouraging authors like Elisa Morgan, who not only inspire the heart, but also offer the tools to keep me aiming at and running towards my spiritual goals.

NAKED FRUIT gives moms the tools they need to open their hearts and souls to accepting the Spirit's gift, and equips them to grow in their relationship with God and with those whose lives they touch. Author and MOPS International President Elisa Morgan's concept that the "Naked Fruit" of a relationship with God is simply becoming (as best we can) like Jesus is as refreshingly satisfying as the first bite into a luscious orange on a hot summer afternoon!

The book's brief, yet insightful chapters end in thought provoking (but manageable) "Fruit for Thought" exercised designed to help busy mothers see a clear path to growing more fruitful in their own circles of relation. Although the book is aimed at mothers, any Christian looking to honestly make the world a better place and wanting to grow in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control will doubtless benefit from the experience of reading, savoring and digesting NAKED FRUIT.

This book is a fine reference to computer scientists who wish to understand the protection and restoration background of different networking techniques such as SONET-SDH, IP and MPLS. This book is also a unique exemplar in the field of network recovery which strengthens its position further. It is well written and easy understandable.

I found a very good introduction in each chapter in the book. Each theoretical section is followed by examples that makes the subject more understandable.

I highly recommend this book.

I bought this book before it was available for shipping, and eagerly waited for its arrival. I am an assistant professor in the networking area, and this book will be useful for my courses as well as for my research in network recovery. The book has detailed information about the topic, and it presents so with the right balance of overview info (which can be skipped by the reader who is familiar with IP, MPLS, SONET, and optical networks and wants to learn more about protection and recovery mechanisms). The way the book is organized also allows you to read exactly what you are interested in, the several case studies and examples are extremely helpful as well as the simulation results presented. I will definitely be using portions of this book in my networking related courses. The practical examples provide for an opportunity to study real scenarios, which are not always available to students, and are crucial to learning and developing novel applied research solutions.

I highly recommend this book for readers that are looking into understanding design and implementation issues, existing solutions, and also some of the open research topics. This is indeed the first book that explains network recovery in such detail and it will be very helpful whether you are researching the topic, teaching, or planning on deploying a solution.

A must have reference book for any serious network architect

I purchased this book for my grandson, Morgan (age 3), initially because it had his name on the cover. After reading it to him he became entranced with Grandfather Rabbit and the growing up bunny machine (possibly because he is a bit passionate about anything with wheels). It is rapidly becoming his favorite "read to me book" and we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of his very own Night Night Bunny. The story is simple, the characters clearly developed and the book is beautifully illustrated with details to capture a child's eye. Everytime he looks at the book he seems to notice something new on the page to point out. What a wonderful way to address a child's fear!!!
