A Great Discussion Starter that Gets You to Think
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-08-16
I pastor a congregation where the primary members are older adults. We used this book as springboard for discussion of life story and leaving a legacy. I consulted with the supplemental leaders guide, which I also highly recommend, that is set up to use this book over a ten-week period. We did not take ten weeks to use this book, but used selected exercises from this book to reflect on our life stories and our faith journey. After the three evenings, there were many in the group asking for additional sessions.

This book is helpful to older adults and those wanting to assist older adults talk about their lives in two ways: 1) it provides questions and exercises to assist people in reflecting on their lives and 2) the questions and exercises encourage people to see their lives as important and see them as something that others can learn from.

I would recommend this book for use by people wanting to help older adults with a life review, for middle-aged people who feel lost in order to gain perspective on their lives and find a spark for a possible new change in direction, and for people who want to record the life stories of aging relatives for future generations.

The exercises are designed to meet the variety of learning styles that exist and not all exercises will appeal to all users of this book. The variety of exercises is great and the results of actually doing the exercises will lead to gentle reflection on life and ones spirituality.

I will be using this book again in the future.

Excellent book for spiritual formation through Stories

I have used Morgan's REMEMBERING YOUR STORY as a basic guide for doing spiritual formation groups in a parish setting. It lends itself not only to personal story sharing, but to a bonding into community and providing a basis for genuine interaction. It was also helpful in relating our stories to stories in Scripture, which are quickly becoming forgotten in our information overload. This book can be a valuable source for growth ..... and preservation of our stories; we are our stories; but we can lose our stories if we don't save them. REMEMBERING YOUR STORY shows us the way.

Morgan's book was an invaluable resource for Nursing Homes.

Many older people suffer from depression or despair and often the reason is that no one takes time to hear their life stories. We used Morgan's book in our Nursing Home (especially the 100 questions at back of book) with powerful results. Many older people's lives were changed

We used REMEMBERING YOUR STORY during a 10 week class in Midlife Transitions. Some of the group were experiencing changes in marriage, others in job, and still others with illness issues. Morgan's book helped us all to find the golden thread, the "story" in our lives which not only helped discern our pattern, but also gave directions for the changes which we face, Excellent book for group process.

Ellen Feld brings us the delightful story of an intrepid foal named Shadow, who has fantasies of life beyond her pasture fence. This wonderful adventure comes alive with illustrations by the talented Jeanne Mellin. Both author and artist have a terrific way of enticing a reader, not to mention capturing the inimitable spirit of the Morgan horse. Two hoofs up!

Once again, author Ellen Feld relates a wonderful story. My grandchildren are 6 and 8, have their own horse, and were totally enthralled with the little Morgan foal "Shadow" and her escapades. The writing is large and easy for young readers to read and the illustrations are colorful and eye catching. A must have for every child in this age group!

My grandchildren love this book. The illustrations are beautiful, the story wonderful. This is a great book for parents (or grandparents) to read to 4- 6 year old children, and it's also a great read for 7 and 8 year olds on their own. Short sentences and paragraphs hold the children's attention, and the story is delightful. A great buy!

John Maxwell produced a study guide entitled: 5 things they didn't teach me in Seminary, namely practical people and church management issues. I love Tim's book because it goes a three steps further with dozens of one page practical insights, keys, techniques for growing your church. We often talk to other pastors to hear what they are doing, attend seminars, but this book lays it all out. I never learnt any of this stuff in Bible school (because the lecturers were often not pastors of growing churches) but I have learnt some of it through trial and error. It has been painful at times. Why re-invent the wheel, learn from others mistakes. Brilliant

Once again McCord hits it out of the park in his latest offering. Paul McCord is widely recognized as an expert in his field and is one of the more recognizable names on the sales development circuit. This time around, McCord spells out the "secrets" of success which aren't really secrets at all, but rather the undiscovered potential in all of us. Straight talk from a straight shooter; sage advice from a leader in his field.

Paul McCord is one of the top experts on sales today. His first book revolutionized referral selling and even changed the way I teach salespeople how to get referrals. This new book is just as excellent and effective.

Paul doesn't promise the usual pie-in-the-sky nonsense that so many authors are pushing today. Instead, you get *real* hands-on sales strategies that you can begin using immediately to increase your results. Will you have to put in the work to make it happen? Yes. Will it work for you? Yes. In a very big way.

If you're serious about your sales success, order this book today and USE it!

SuperStar Selling is a must-read for sales professionals committed to success and managers dedicated to building a team of winners.

A must read for sales people who are serious about success.

Review Date: 2008-03-11
Paul McCord has done it again with Super Star Selling. While there are many excellent sales books and guides on the market, many of them are about strategies and techniques that help improve the likelihood of closing the sale. The majority of them ignore the personality and psychology of the sales person and tend to say "Do what I say and you will succeed in sales." Not too many actually make you ask "Am I cut out for this profession?"

Paul McCord has taken a dramatically different approach that requires the reader to perform a detailed analysis of their personality and activities over the past year. They can use the results to determine if they are in the right industry or if they should even be in sales. Paul's exercises aren't just about crunching numbers to see if you are making enough calls. Rather, they are part of a strategic selling mindset and system used to improve your selling results.

This is not a book that you are going to read and set it on your library shelf. You will find yourself using it to analyze your activities and to create a long term plan and strategy for success in sales, either with your current company or in an entirely different industry.

He also goes beyond traditional sales training by teaching us how to successfully market ourselves and our products or services and he also presents a wealth of both online and off-line resources to help us learn the marketing function. So many sales reps have said to me "I would be really great in sales if only I could get in front of more prospects." Well, the new reality, also taught by Frank Rumbauskas in Cold Calling is a Waste of Time is that if you are in sales, you need to become a marketer because the reality is that it is the rare business that has clients beating on the door to buy from us!

Paul McCord writes to us in a a style that is very personal and easy to understand language and flows nicely from chapter to chapter. He shares with us a lot of practical real world experience from both selling his own services as well as examples from his clients and those of other sales experts.

Attention sales professionals!!! There is a new sales book on the market that is a must-have in your library. It is called Super Star Selling by Paul McCord. Buy it, read it and apply what you've learned and you will see your income go up!

What I love about this book is that it truly offers something for everyone, from novices looking to host their first Thanksgiving to more accomplished cooks who want to try new twists on the classics. Ms. Morgan provides plenty of clear-headed advice to guide you, from choosing the right equipment and do-ahead tips to planning your menu.

The book is organized well, and includes everything from a section on the history of Thanksgiving to a chapter on creating great meals with leftovers. There is even a chapter on vegetarian entrees. This is not to say that the star attraction (turkey)is neglected. Ms. Morgan gives us recipes for brined, barbecued, deep-fried, and roasted birds, among others; plus advice on what to look for when buying a turkey. As an added bonus, the book also includes a handful of table-decorating ideas, with "recipes" for making table centerpieces and other autumn home decor accents.

Among my favorite recipes: the fragrant walnut rolls, which my family devoured; and the cranberry chutney, with its beautiful jewel color and spice-infused flavor. You will never go back to cranberry sauce after this!

I was so inspired by the authors presentation that I made my own dinner napkins (I've never sown) purchased a new table cloth, made napkin holders and candle center pieces. Set the table the night before and took a picture! The turkey brining write up conviced me that it was the way to go - along with the roasting receipes and stuffing. My dinner guest have decided that this will be the only way future turkeys can be served! The meal was soooooo good - Thanks Diane Morgan for your work on this project - it's a success in my book.

I used the "Search Inside this Book" feature of Amazon to try out some of the recipes in this book for this year's Thanksgiving. I made the carrot pudding souffle, the jalapeno cheddar cornbread stuffing, and the sweet potato wedges. All came out wonderfully! The cornbread stuffing was the biggest hit. I strongly recommend this book.

Morgan offers up a wide variety of mouthwatering dishes that are easy to make and (usually) don't require an extra trip to the store or a quest for some obscure ingredient. There are main course recipes for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike, and she even includes ideas for leftovers. Best of all is the brined turkey, which is life-changing. I'll never eat turkey any other way.

Terrific Book - highly recommended

I purchased this book only recently and tried it out over the past holiday. I can now heartily endorse it. Ms. Morgan has put together a collection of easy to follow recipes that will liven up your Thanksgiving table. Many look like your standard fare, but have been jazzed up with new preparation techniques. A perfect example is the Chiffonade of Brussel Sprouts. I have to have brussel sprouts on my table every year, but was so bored with them. I followed her technique for shredding them, then sauteeing - they came out like a warm slaw, perfectly cooked and offset with the hazelnuts - I had no leftovers at all! I will be making that dish again, for sure.

I primarily purchased the book for her section on vegetarian entrees and again, she did not let me down. The stuffed acorn squash was, as she stated, fantastic, and my vegetarian guest was thrilled.

I do have one complaint/suggestion: I wish that each recipe had said how far in advance each recipe could be prepared ahead. I believe in a book about holiday cooking, where most people begin to cook several days in advance, knowing how far in advance each thing could be prepared would have made this book ideal for anyone preparing the holiday feast. I have enough experience to figure it out myself, but not everyone does.

I believe this book is an excellent buy, however. If you like Holiday cooking and are looking to change things up a bit, you should buy this book. You will enjoy it, and so will your guest.

The friendship that has developed between B.J. and Barry in the course of the book takes you down so many varied and interesting paths. The essence of the story for me was experiencing the stunning revelations of the author in her honest portrayal of events in her life. I particularly liked the descriptions of events in her childhood. It was truly a page turner and I hope to see more of the same.

My aunt gave me the book. It is a wonderful story, and I am finding so many similarities with myself in it! This past year in particular, I feel a whole other journey about to open up for me, and perhaps one that will present me with greater introspection and knowledge. What perfect timing to receive the book, for the central theme of this new journey I have been presented with is about finally coming into who

and at last living a life in complete harmony with my soul. Robyn Alezanders, writer, Philadelphia, PA

I did pass the the Fundamental exam in the first try itself and I don't believe I would've been able to do so if I had not laid hands on this material. Neither do I think there's a book out there that covers UML with the level of detail as this one does. After all, this guide is published by the same Group that sets the UML standards and administers the certification program! I'll be referring back to it again for my Intermediate-level exam. There are no practice questions for the Intermediate exam. I am now using this book to prepare for the Intermediate exam.

Wildest Dreams is an anthology by Janice Maynard, Morgan Leigh, LuAnn McLane three authors that until this book were new to me. All three stories are steamy, enjoyable reads that have their light hearted times as well.

Suite Secrets by Janice Maynard brings Rebecca Fraser, a magazine reporter and Sebastian Tennant, the owner of the speciality hotel together. Rebecca is out for an exclusive story, while Sebastian knows he cannot let such a story to take place. What does transpire between the two is more than they bargain for with the sexual chemistry and enough sparks to ignite a forest fire. But in the end they realize that what they have is special.

The Second Story Voices Carry by Morgan Leigh finds Camelot Reeves fantasizing over her boss Jonah McCauley. Because of Company Policy she knows that she can never have him, But they meet in the Company elevator by chance, one thing leads to another and they find they cannot fight their mutual attraction to one another any longer. What happens next makes for a delightful steamy read by a talented author.

Cabin Fever is the last story in this Anthology and is by LuAnn McLane. Rachel Manning is an author of sweet romances, but has a secret alias as author Jade Johnson who writes steamy hot romances. Jake Nichols, her agent, knows about the two sides of Rachel. Jake shows up at her wilderness cabin to inform her of the great news on her latest contract and gets stranded by a storm. But the storm outside is mild compared to the sexual, steamy storm that is sparked by Rachel and Jake inside the cabin. LuAnn has written a spicy read which rounds out this anthology nicely, and I will be looking for more books written by these authors.

Wildest Dreams is a wonderful anthology by three fantastic authors. All three are now on my auto-buy list.

Suite Secrets by Janice Maynard has Rebecca Fraser trying to get the inside story on Sebastian Tennant specialty hotels. Sebastian agrees to show Rebecca his newest hotel as long as she agrees to spend it as his "wife". Sebastian and Rebecca have amazing chemistry and snappy wit. An amazing read that will make you sweat. Can't wait for her next book.

Morgan Leigh brings us Voices Carry. Camelot Reeve has it bad for her boss lawyer, Jonah McCauley. Just his voice alone can send her over the edge. A chance meeting in the company elevator leads to a dinner at Camelot's place and so much more. Their attraction is tantalizing, you can just feel the sexual tension build. Jonah and Camelot have a connection that exists in and out of the bedroom. Morgan Leigh has a brought a bright new voice to romance.

Cabin Fever by LuAnn McLane has author Rachel Manning who normally writes sweet romances working on sensual romances as "Jade Johnson". Alone in her cabin Rachel lets Jade out to play. During a storm, there is a pounding at her cabin door, it's her agent Jake Nichols. Jake is coming to tell her the great news about her latest contract. Jake is not prepared for the woman he meets. Their attraction is instantaneous and they are steamy. LuAnn McLane adds another exciting story to this anthology.

This book is a must read.

Another Great Anthology By Brava!!

This is another great Brava anthology that you won't want to miss. These are stories from some great up and coming authors that will have you laughing out loud at times and fanning your face all at the same time.

Janice Maynard's Suite Secrets is about Rebecca Fraser a reporter for a travel magazine and she needs to interview Sebastian Tennent the owner of these secret hotels in order to talk him into allowing her to do a story on the luxurious hotels. Problem is that these are private hotels with secrecy being the main priority. Sebestian knows he can't allow sexy Rebecca her story exclusive but makes a deal with her. She comes with him to his newest hotel and poses as his wife and he might just let her have her story. What happens is both of these different people find out that they have more in common then they thought and the steam the generate is...well you get the point. Will either Rebecca or Sebastian get what they want or do they get something else all together?

Morgan Leigh's Voices Carry is my favorite of the three stories. Camelot Reeve has a problem. He bosses voice turns her into a melted puddle of lust. Before she knows it she is finding herself involved with the one man she knows she can't have but can't stay away from. Will Jonah be able to keep his lady?

LuAnn McLane's Cabin Fever is great. Rachel Manning is a successful author of inspirational novels. Her big secret is she's also the author of some very sexy and erotic novels under a different name. No one knows her secret until her sexy agent Jake Nichols finds her hidden away in the mountains penning just such a novel. Before they know it these two different people manage to set a spake that could burn down a forest!

This was a fun and rather fast-paced read. I highly recommend any book published under the Brava imprint. You are garaunteed a spicey read with great characters. This book is no exception.

Uncover Wildest Dreams

I highly recommend WILDEST DREAMS, an anthology from the BRAVA line, known for its BAD BOYS series. Each story in this anthology packs the heat and features a couple we want to see get together, as the couples mesh well.

SUITE SECRETS by Janice Maynard features a heroine, Rebecca, who wants to save her career, so she agrees to the outlandish proposal by the owner of a posh and exclusive resort. Once there, she gets lost in fantasy, and loses her heart to him.

VOICES CARRY by Morgan Leigh. Ever think a voice is so sexy you just melt? That is how Camelot feels about her boss. He captures her acting out her fantasies, decides to act on it and proceeds to reel her, and her heart, in.

CABIN FEVER by LuAnn McLane. Rachel is an author and has a secret that few people know. It doesnýt take long for the hero to figure out who she is. What he sees intrigues him, and since they are stranded, what better way to pass the time than have a little fun acting out the scenes in one of her books...

Why should you purchase this book? If you like your stories packed with heat and lots of romance, you should buy this. If you like to find new and upcoming authors that promise to have a future in the romance publishing industry, get this. All three stories were awesome. If you loved the BAD BOYS series from Brava, then you will also enjoy WILDEST DREAMS.

Overall, this book is too good to pass up just because you have not heard of these authorsýbecause you will hear from them again. All three authors proved to be stellar in this anthology and I look forward to more from all three authors.
WILDEST DREAMS is a gem not to be missed

A Book for Unappreciated Nursing Assistants

I have served as a chaplain in a Nursing Home and the unheralded heroes/heroines are the nursing assistants. Grossly unpaid, usually unappreciated, they do the "dirty" work that others avoid. Morgan's book is one I recommend to CNAs, so they can realize the value of their work as a ministry, not just a job. Many have told me that it helped affirm them, create a feeling of value in what they do, and make them feel more appreciated. For that reason it is a book caregivers need to have.

Book to Share with Family Members of Nursing Home Residents

I work with nursing home residents and often find myself trying to explain our work to family members. They don't seem to understand that good things happen here, as well as some of the bad things. Morgan's book shows the flip side of nursing homes....that it is a place of joy and courage, as well as a place of pain and suffering. I recommend this book to family members so they can get a better picture of what we do for this growing population of older people.

A much needed antidote for bashing Nursing Homes

So many people either bash nursing homes because of alleged horror stories of abuse of residents, or avoid them like the plague. I love this book because it shows the humanity of people who live there, and those who help them make this their HOME

I am a minister who leads worship services at several nursing homes. I always search for ways to bring courage, comfort, and joy to the people who struggle to find hope while living there. This book glows with wise and inspiring meditations on numberous joys and struggles of living in a nursing home. It will serve as food for my messages for many months to come. These stories and reflections focus on the powerful issues facing people in the nursing home, and offer both wisdom and encouragement as the best of stories can do.

Stories that would be lost without this excellent book.

I am interested in stories of older persons who languish in nursing homes. Morgan's book tells these stories of older persons that would never see the light of day if he hadn't recorded them. We lose a library when an older person dies and their stories die with them. These FAITH STORIES FROM THE NURSING HOME preserve incredible stories of people who live outside the city walls, and often are perceived as lepers. It needs to be read by anyone interested in human beings.
