Nothing Ever ChangesReview Date: 2007-06-20
What is amazing is that the problems faced by the Green Berets in Vietnam described by Moore are the very same problems faced by our soldiers today in the War on Terror. These include the problems of corrupt local soldiers, relegious differences and the ago old cultural clash between the conventional military mindset and the unconventional warrior. If one changed the locations names from Vietnam to Iraq the stroeis would be ripped from today's headlines.
The new edition also contains materials which were not in the original edition. It was also enjoyable to read the various stories which conributed elements to the John Wayne movie which was based on the book. The book is well worth your time.

a useful book Review Date: 2008-01-27
What amazes me is that after thinking, reading and talking about blended learning for some time, I have come to accept blended learning as common sense because when well designed, it combines the best of online and FTF learning. But I guess many people won't agree, esp. if they haven't read this book yet. Still, I predict blended learning will become more popular in the coming years, and this book will be among the classics for educators and trainers alike.

The Most Important Educational Trend in YearsReview Date: 2006-03-25
For the first time, the educational system has a way to provide the individual student with instruction that can be exactly tailored to his ability, level, interest and so on. The gifted can go far beyond the standard textbook using the web as an infinite resource. The slower can get additional instruction in areas where he is having a hard time. At the same time, all students are being trained in the use of computers, a skill in its own right that is all but mandatory for the future in any job.
This book summarizes the state of the art as it exists today using institutional models from both industry and educational institutions, 'case studies' from around the world to illustrate in a practical matter what is being done, and some chapters that provide the authors thinking about where blended learning is going.
Anyone working in a teach the teachers environment needs to be aware of these developments which are rapidly growing in importance.

More to Moore than inventing the holeReview Date: 2007-01-09
In fairness to Moore most of the entries in this book come from his journals and lecture notes rather than published works.
What makes this book so very interesting is Moore's plain speaking about many of the highly complicated issues of art making.
I was left with the overwhealming feeling that it would be very nice if contemporary art writers abandoned their incomprehensible elitist academic style in favour of Moore's no less intellectual but ifinitely more readable approach.

A must read for any Moore enthusiastReview Date: 2002-11-27
The chapters are arranged under the following headings: "Ch. 1: Life and Influences", "Ch. 2: Friends and Colleagues", "Ch. 3: Art and Artists", "Ch. 4: On Sculpture", and "Ch. 5: Works by Henry Moore". Bibliographical sources, list of Moore's most well known work, and a general keyword index can be found in the back.
Because interviews Moore gave in 1973 might refer to events from his childhood, Wilkinson took care to put as much of the artist's words into context by surrounding it with other relevant quotations. For example, on page 35, the passage that begins with "In Castleford, where I was born, there are what called sand holes. They're caves where the sand has been excavated" (1973) is followed by "What is a cave? A cave is a shape. It's not the lump of mountain over it" (1962).
With a foreword by Alan Bowness. Overall, a very compelling read.

Not your father's history bookReview Date: 2006-01-16
No matter what era or subject it is very well covered here. Tells not only the story of this small coastal county but tells the real story of the founding of this nation and the triumphs and hardships of the founding fathers. Not afraid to point out the excesses good and bad of it's inhabitants this book is a must read for the serious reader as well as a casual reference. Not many books can say that. This book just made me want more!

Timely PoetryReview Date: 2001-11-09
was neither obscure nor hopelessly dated. Instead, the poems are concerned with modern-day subjects and concerns.
They are refreshingly direct, witty and timely, covering a
wide range of subjects from serious to whimsical. It's fairly
remarkable how much meaning can be gleaned from so few words.
All in all, a very enjoyable read.
