I've had trouble with my prayer life on and off like a roller coaster. I thought it would be that way forever, until I was given this book as a gift. The way Beth breaks down prayer and her explanation on what prayer could-should be, has helped me to focus and stay on track with my prayers. It's truly remarkable and the best prayer aid I've read. The only slightly negative part is that I usually run out of room when writing my prayers.

Beth Moore is one of the most down to earth, God-seeking woman I have had the pleasure to learn from through devotionals and bible studies. Whispers of Hope is a great daily reminder of how to connect with the Savior- reminding us to always start with praise. Her daily thought-provoking devotionals are really good and make you want to dig deeper into the Word. I am really enjoying this.

This book has a real sentimental value to me because Dr. Hardy Hendren is my doctor. I had a kidney condition when I was born and the hospital I was at did not know was what wrong with me but when my parents brought me to the Boston Children's Hospital where Dr. Henden works at, he knew what to do and preformed my surgery. The book is brilliant because of the man it is about.

It's not easy to find words adequate to do this book justice. It's primarily the biography of Dr. Hardy Hendren, recently retired chief of surgery at Children's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Hendren has performed operations that seem to be nothing short of miraculous. The book is a tribute to his indomitable spirit, and an inspiration to anyone looking for examples of what a man can accomplish when he puts his mind to it. I don't throw words such as "towering" or "genius" around lightly, but even those words seem inadequate when applied to Dr. Hendren. Read the book, and be inspired.
I agree with an earlier reviewer that the book seems to get side-tracked occasionally with descriptions of other surgeons at Children's Hospital. However, I found this a microscopic negative compared to the overall value of the book. Hence the five stars.

the author tries to do too much in this one book. On the one hand it is about a plastic surgeon who specializes in pediatric congenital anomalies. The biographical information with details about some of his cases is excellent. However, the author takes on too much by making it a book about Children's Hospital also, including cases that have nothing to do with the featured surgeon. I enjoyed it but it could have been better organized into two books.

"The Work of Human Hands" is an excellent story detailing the work of Doctor Hardy Hendron - a fantastic human being - This story is impossible to read without gaining a heightened sense of what is truly important. I am also a writer and I have suffered a dire family emergency that has a happy ending - I am detailing the work of the terrific surgeons at The Children's Hospital of Buffalo, New York and I can only hope to do as terrific a job as G. Wayne Miller did.

We have read many children's versions of the Bible and some of them are over simplified and some a bit to difficult for kids. However, this book breaks down several concepts that kids of this age need in order to fight the spiritual battle and to take their faith to the next level. Although the book is written to grab the attention of children from a large age group, it is very well written. The book is based on scripture and applies concepts in such a way that kids are bale to understand them. I love this book. So much so, thatmy children (ages 3-12) and I read it together just about every night. We read sections and discuss how it applies to them and their situations. Quite often you can see the light bulbs going off over their heads, as they are finally able to understand the bible scriptures that we read together, as well. This book has helped my kids to see how important their thoughts really are. The great thing is that they are enjoying the journey.
I truly recommend this book for kids from the ages of about 7 to 13.

"Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace whose Mind is Stayed on Thee"

Review Date: 2007-04-25
The Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, makes clear that our minds are indeed a battlefield in the (unseen) spiritual warfare that rages from age to age. Throughout all this conflict, the Lord Most High is unchanging, unchangeable, His mercies endure forever, and the holy scriptures promise peace to those whose minds are stayed on Jehovah [e.g. "Thou wilt keep (him) in perfect peace, (whose) mind (is) stayed (on thee): because he trusteth in thee." Isa. 26:3]. It is from this general scriptural premise that authors Joyce Meyer and Karen Moore have written this book BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND FOR KIDS.
This book seems to me to be geared toward children in the 9 to 14 age range. I started using the book in read-aloud/discussion format about seven or eight months ago during Bible time with my homeschooled grandchildren, currently 11, 8 and 6.
The book presents at least two significant challenges to homeschooling families with children whose ages cover such a span. First, the chapters are long, almost too long to keep the younger children engaged for the length of time that it takes to get through the chapter; yet, the language is simple enough that particularly if the older child or children are good leaders among their sibling group, periodic pauses for discussion can help to overcome this problem. Second, the chapters are oriented toward children who are attending a school, probably a public school, and the examples given may not be as relevant for homeschooled children, particularly those who have never attended school outside the home.
At the time I purchased the book, I was attending weekly staff meetings at our former church, and as did the other staff members, I brought my homeschooled (grand-)children with me to these meetings. I had some thought of using the book there in a group setting with all the children, but that did not happen.
Several months ago, the Lord removed my family and me from that place and soon thereafter re-established us at a different church where I sometimes teach Sunday School; I may decide to use the book there, and if so, I believe it will work well in that setting, where we all -- following the example and teaching of our domata (pastor, teacher, gift sent from God) Leslie Hale -- treat the Word of God with reverence. In fact, upon entering the building to worship, we walk under these words, ornately painted on the lintel of the entrance: "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). It is our freedom, after all, that is a major part of what is at stake in the battlefield of the mind.
I believe this book can provide a useful framework for godly adults to guide children in learning more about the battlefield within their own minds, an approach I would favor over having children read the book on their own.
Given our situation as a homeschooling family with a wide age range of children, I probably would not purchase this book again unless I had use for it somewhere outside the home, as indicated above. Given that I did purchase it, however, I have made effective enough use of it in the home setting that I do not consider the investment to have been a waste.

I really enjoyed this book! I couldn't put it down - I read it in 2 days. TRUE CRIME is my reading of choice but to have it take place so close to my hometown of Douglas is unusual! I live about 20 miles from the burial place of most of the people in this book. This book is really entertaining for history buffs wanting to know what life was like in turn-of-the-century rural Georgia including Coffee County and Lowndes County. Back then trials were the biggest source of entertainment available. The book mostly takes place in Jacksonville, Broxton, Ambrose, Hahira, and Valdosta, Georgia. REALLY INTERESTING READING!

Being involved in the modern day south Georgia legal system and a one-time resident of Lowndes County, I thoroughly enjoyed this very detailed and well-written novel. The author's attention to the details of the trial and testimony is very exact, but the narrative flows almost like a suspenseful thriller. It is obvious the author spent a great deal of time talking to people about the background of the feud, as well as absorbing the tremendous amount of written material on the case and aftermath. Even 100 years later, this book puts you on the bustling streets of downtown Valdosta during the frantic days of the trials as if you were a spectator yourself. I highly recommend this novel.

This was a very involving book for me as I am the Great-grandson of Jesse Rawlins. The book flows very well. The facts are presented in a History channel type format where you get the information needed while at the same time you become starved for more after each page is turned. I would recommend this book to anyone in the SE United States, and History buffs across the world.

The book, Blind Obedience, is truly a well-written story. I grew up very close to the site of the Rawlins & Carter farms near Val-Del Road a few miles east of Hahira, Georgia. My grandfather knew the families involved. A few years after the trials, my Uncle Ivey Johnson bought the old Carter place and lived there for several years. Anyone living in South Georgia should especially be interested in reading this text. Any book that I can read in slightly more than one days time has got to be good. Bill Boyd deserves praise for his writing efforts.

This was a fascinating read. However, I must take Mr. Moore to task over his writings about Steve Prefontaine's accident. Yes, Mr. Moore, you never met Karl Bylund, because if you had, you would have understood exactly why Karl would have been no help if he had stayed to lift the car. This kid was all skin and bones; everyone who knew him would attest to this fact.

I knew that Bowerman coached Pre and had an influence on Nike and the jogging boom of the 70s, but Moore's biography fills in all the gaps from Medford to Mexico City. Bowerman's life reads like a case-closing defense of the Great Man theory of history, at least for track & field. His accomplishments are truly remarkable and well-rendered by Moore.

This is an invaluable read for anyone involved with coaching. The first chapters on Bowerman's ancestors also offer some insights into Oregon life in the small towns in the late 1800's early 1900's. Finally, the book is well written and easy to read. All around a worthwhile experience!

Reading Cracker's Mule was like listening to my father. It took me to a time when I would sit in Daddy's lap and hear him tell the tales of his childhood. Billy Moore takes the country between Alabama and Florida he and my father both live in and gave it the only voice it could have--an honest one. I am privileged to have had the chance to work alongside Billy Moore, and even happier that he wrote this story. I cannot wait to read Little Brother, Real Snake.

There are so many things that go into creating a successful business that can't be explained or borrowed from business formulas and technical know how. The human component of business creates such a random factor in any businesses success or failure. The word Energetics comes as close to capturing this most important source of business capital - its people and how they function as a whole. Callayway does us all a tremendous service through simple explanations and real life studies that point out how Energetics cannot be ignored in the pursuit of business success.

This book has been very helpful in the development of my vision. All businesses are living entities and the author helps the business owner work in the energetic to interact with the business as such. I have read many business books and this one is the only one I have found that addresses my business as a living energetic entity and hooks into space and time. It is a completely new vantage point for technology that has been around for thousands of years.

This book could not have come soon enough. Not only does it give the reader very practical tools for setting up her own business- but it's a guidebook that teaches one how to marry intellect and instinct. We all have an inner business voice, the voice in our heads silently critiquing the business owners we have worked for over the years. By following outdated business models and submitting to fears about change, so many executives and managers leave no room for the educated risks necessary for each employee and their companies to reach a high potential. Outdated and fearful business structures stunt both the growth of the employees and the company ultimately suffers or fails. Thank you Ms. Callaway, for showing me how to merge my creativity and instinct in my own new business, for showing me fearlessness and the path to easy abundance.

I could not think of a book more sorely needed in the sphere of business, nor of a time more appropriate than now. Currently in the process of setting up my own company, 'The Energetics of Business' has provided invaluable insight not only into the practicalities involved, but also into the evolution of a living, breathing entity which inevitably takes on a life of its own. The flow of energy and intent that allows this to take place is truly fascinating and Ms Callaway certainly knows what she's talking about, providing essential information in a user-friendly and deeply supportive way. All in all, a must-have guide for anyone attempting to begin to live their dream, or build on an existing one, in the world of business. This book should give them the confidence and the building blocks to do just that!

This is more of a guide book that fits quite nicely in your lab coat pocket. As nutrient and medications are explained, there are many more advantages such as references to specific lab values and thier normal limits, nutrient and micronutrient food sources, height-weight tables, ideal body weight calculations and more. A must for any health professional not directly working with medications.

I purchased this book because it's a standard reference book for us dietitians. Even so, my family and friends also use this book to research their current prescription medications. The information is easy to follow, even if you're not a healthcare professional. The back of the book contains additional handy reference pages, such as the normal ranges for many blood tests and common causes for out-of-range test results; dietary sources of vitamins, minerals, oxalates, and phytic acid (especially important for people with certain chronic illnesses to know); and a list of meds that are affected by grapefruit. I feel this book can be very helpful for people who need to cope with chronic illness(es) that require dietary adjustments and/or multiple prescription medications.

This book was required for a nutrition class, and it's quite a wonderful resource. Everything is neatly labeled and in order, making it easy to find the medication and all interactions/warnings. A great resource for anyone who wants to understand more about the meds they are taking, or for those who care for them!

I'm currently a Dietetic Intern. This book has been, and still is, a useful pocket book guide that I use everyday for my internship. The book has almost all the medications that I currently deal with in my clinical rotation. The type of information that this book gives are as follows:
1. Alternative Name(s)
2. The drug's affect
3. Diet (with our without food), what foods to avoid with the med (ie. grapefruit)
4. Oral/GI affects
5. S/Conds
6. Affects on Pregnancy
7. Blood/Serum affects
8. Urinary affects
9. What to monitor
10. Ways to be adminstered (the drug)
11. and more
Additionally, the book provides (what I find to be very useful) are Lab Values, their normal ranges, and reasons why they might be elevated or below normal limits.
There is more within this pocket guide.
The only thing I don't like is that it says "Pocket Guide"; it's not really that small, it's quite big. Don't expect it to fit in your pant pocket. It will fit in your lab coat pocket, but it's quite still big. I suggest to carry it with your binder. Just don't misplace it; I've done it many times already on the different hospital floors.
I highly recommend this food and drug medication guide -- especially those in the dietetics profession.

this is one of those rare stories that is written with such simplistically elegant prose that it can't help but be beautiful. it is not the plot of the book that captivates the reader, but rather the almost plain and 'delicate' way in which the story is narrated. to anyone in search of a new "classic," i highly recommend this book.

An interesting read, this book was more like a dream state than a first person narrative. Short, concise visuals, and vivid characters describe village life in post war Naples. This book will keep you reading straight through to the end. Loved the ending.

The pictures are really engaging, ss with most books illustrated by Garth Williams.
The book counts from 1 to 10, so is suitable for the younger child/toddler. The rhymes for each number are really sweet.

I love this book - so does my little one. It was my favorite as a child and when I saw it in a store, I didn't even think about it. I just grabbed it and ran! It does an excellent job of teaching little ones their numbers and number recognition. It also has them count each thing that appears in the illustrations. The pictures are just darling and very life-like as well. You have to buy this book - it's really that good.
The best counting book ever!

This book is wonderful! The pictures are very colorful and peaceful to look at. Just as important, the flow and rhythm of the book is amazingly catching. I have had the entire book memorized for years, and that is without even trying.
I loved the book at 5, and I still love it at 27. I had this book as a kid, and I give it to all my friends who have children.
If you know someone who is learning to count, or someone who is a child at heart, this is the perfect book for them!
Grew up loving this book!

My dad read this book to my sister and I when we were small. We loved it more than any other book out there! The rhymes and illustrations were superior. We all still remember each and every number and group of animals associated with the number. My sister has given this book as a baby gift for years, and now that she is having a baby of her own, she is planning on having the nursery designed with the adorable animals! It is a must read and really helps little kids enjoy both math and reading throughout life!!!

Now, as far as contents go, I would give it 5 stars all the way. While I am not new in my faith, prayer is something I have always struggled with. Beth uses the acronym P.R.A.I.S.E. to show you an effective method of prayer:
P- PRAISE the Lord. Tell Him how great He is!
R- REPENTANCE. Confess and seek forgiveness
A- ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. Submit to the Lord and acknowledge his authority in your life.
I- INTERCESSION. Pray for others.
S- SUPPLICATION for SELF. Pray for yourself.
E- EQUIPPING. Ask the Lord to give you the tools you need to get through the day.
What really amazes me is her ability to draw you into each "lesson". The Lord has blessed her with INCREDIBLE insight and a way to get the message across to the reader. This book could easily replace any devotional. In essence that's what this book is, just with a guide to prayer. If I were to offer any more criticism however, it would be this: After a week, I found that my prayers were feeling a bit "forced". Perhaps this is just a personal thing, but I found myself trying too hard to fit my prayer into the P.R.A.I.S.E. format. I found it to be more of a hinderance, my prayers did not flow freely from the heart as I thought they should. Not to say people will not benefit from this book, in fact quite the opposite. It's still a thrill to get up every morning and read the lessons. I am very glad I bought it.
