A 'Wheels in wheels' plot that is sure to delight

Brown's short novel, His Name Was Death, is a masterpiece of concentric, convoluted plotting. It starts with a simple exchange of cars and a cashed check, which then spirals into multiple linked and inescapable homicides.

Each chapter starts from the viewpoint of a different character at first. There is a smooth mix of dialog internal to the narrating character in each chapter along with completely believable conversation. Often, there is great irony between what is going on in the conversation versus what is going through the internal mental dialog.

The novel resolves itself quickly, and satisfyingly. The setting Santa Monica is described very accurately. Brown has mid century LA down cold as he spins his tale.

You will not be disappointed if you make an effort to find this fine work.

Essays on Jewish Learning

This is a very good collection of essays. The eight essays are ' History and Midrash' 'Intellectual Honesty in Jewish Learning' ' The Eighty- Ninth Psalm: Paradigm of Israel's Faith' ' City, Societ,Self Goals for Jewish Learning' 'Motivations for Jewish Learning in the Diaspora' ' Scholars and Machines' 'Learning and Deeds:A Life of Rabbi Tarfon' ' An Aristocrat of the Intellect: Rabbi Ishmael the son of Rabbi Yosi'.
Neusner reads ancient texts and provides lessons for modern life out of a conviction of the eternal relevance of the Jewish sources. A great little work.

Mitchell has done agreat job by gathering all this data and turning it into a thoroughbred classic on antique picture frames.
Academic quality could be compared to Framing in the Golden Age but lacks the in depth detail of that great book.

An update and extension of the 1884 edition. Contains many individual family writeups plus historical sketches of townships and towns, all enriched with photographs of individuals, family groups, towns, churches and schools. Obviously cannot cover every family in Mitchell County, but does a reasonable job of covering quite a few, since it relies on personal writeups from family members and not all families may have responded to the invitation to submit a sketch. Lots of information of interest to any genealogy researcher.

First views of an emerging strategy

This is just one of a whole bunch of book that will be coming out. The invasion of Iraq and the subsequent occupation, in combination with other events has changed the world order.

This book is primarily about changes in the US stated strategy of not necessarily waiting for an attack before attacking a suspected enemy. With the advent of WMD's and the stated intent by organizations such as al Qaida to use them, can a country wait until a city is gone before using force to prevent it? This has been a a question for many years, such as England/France attacking Germany in 1938 rather than signing a treaty.

This book is written by a series of experts from all around the country that bring differing points of view to the problem. Other books that are out or coming out will stress different points of view, and different, shall we say, levels of approval.

The whole concept of Preventive Force is new and being developed, this is still the early phases. This book gives a good analysis of where the doctrine is at the moment.

This book is a great pocket reference for oncology...especially for medical students, residents, and oncology nurses. The outline format is easy to read and consistent format makes it easy to find information. It also lists the up-to-date clinical studies that are important for the treatment of specific cancers. It has become my reference for cancer topics.

AN ESSENTIAL GUIDE

Esther Goldberg has written an essential guide for studying the Holocaust, giving due prominence to the experiences and voices of the survivors. Among the valuable aspects of the book for teachers and students alike is a detailed glossary, and sixteen colour maps that I drew at her suggestion, covering every aspect of the Holocaust.

Many home design guides often assume you have unlimited space and money to design your home. This book contains examples on how to convert not just newly built large spaces, but even small odd shaped spaces, such as under stairwells and in attics into useful home offices. There are also many examples of the different furniture and decorating possibilities. A must have for anyone planning a serious home office.
