The ubiquitous North American B-25 Mitchell medium bomber saw service on all war fronts in World War II, serving with various
American and Allied units. Steve Pace kicks off a four-volume set on the B-25 from Osprey Publishing with this volume on B-25
ops in the Mediterranean Theater.
Five bomb groups utilized the B-25 in the MTO, being assigned to the 9th and 12th Air Forces. Whether carrying out high-altitude bombing missions or low-level strafing runs, these five groups - the 12th, 310th, 319th, 321st and 340th - compiled an enviable combat record from August 1942 to war's end.
Pace devotes single chapters to each group along with a shorter section on the 58th BW. Each chapter is chock-full of combat accounts by B-25 pilots and crewmen along with many fine photos of aircraft, aircrew, in-flight combat scenes, crashes, etc. The book has over 90 black & white and 11 color photos along with 12 pages of color sideviews by Jim Laurier. MTO B-25s carried a great variety of paint schemes which are nicely illustrated by Laurier including two pages of marvelous nose art views.
B-25 MITCHELL UNITS OF THE MTO is a nicely done overview of those five bomb groups, an entertaining mix of exciting combat accounts, interesting photos and first-rate artwork. Here's hoping the next three volumes are as equally well done as this one.

"Baby and Child Medical Care" is easily the handbook that didn't come with the birth of your child. Our first child was born
in 1983, not long after this book was originally published as "The Parent's Guide to Baby & Child Medical Care". The book
has paid for itself in spades throughout the ensuing years (and children). The format of "Baby & Child Medical Care" is
the secret of it's value. It includes an easy to understand description of common infant and child medical issues along
with a "how to" guide for treating them. Most importantly, information is provided as to when it is advisable to seek "professional"
help. The "Guide . . ." has been invaluable in the raising and care of our children. It should be included with the release
papers upon leaving the hospital at the birth of every child.

I read this book for my sixth grade class assignment. This book teaches kids about the Gold Rush and how people became so
popular when they discovered just the smallest amount of gold. I got very involved in the character's personality's and their
solid and diverse friendship. It taught me that racism has old roots in our country. But friendship can overcome the hate
and distrust. I recommend this book to kids especially, but everyone would enjoy it.

great coffee table book

This is a neat idea for a book: putting "then" and "now" photographs side-by-side. Though the book is at times mildly depressing
when you see how alive and grand city spots once were as compared to how they look now, this is not a fault of the author,
but our upkeep of cities, of course. The author does an excellent job of capturing the exact same angle of the older photograph,
so you can really compare streets and buildings and other landmarks.
We purchased this book as a gift for friends who are soon moving away from Baltimore, their recent home. It was well received.
I have seen other versions of this book, with other cities highlighted. The New York and Philadelphia books look equally engaging, among others.
I would recommend this product for history buffs, as a coffee table general interest book, or for Baltimoreans.

Educational and Engaging, a Good Read

This engagingly written, autobiographical book follows anthropologist William E. Mitchell on a 1970 expedition to a remote area of Papua New Guinea, from his home base as a college teacher in rural Vermont. To make it more interesting, Mitchell is accompanied by his wife, Joyce, and two small children Ned and Elizabeth (four and three). As part of his two year stay in New Guinea, Mitchell plans to spend a year each with two different societies, to be selected when he gets there, though he has a general region un mind, the Toricelli Mountain range high above the fetid malarial swamps of the "fabled Sepik River".
We are taken through the process, from the inital grant application, the thrill of acceptance (revealed indiredctly through an odd conversation about the number of cameras he was requesting), the preparations and considerations involved in travelling as a family, arrival in New Guinea and initial exploration of the area looking for just the right village to settle into for a year.
Mitchell chooses the village of Taute among the Wape people, an aggressively egalitarian and normally pacific culture to whom healing ceremonies (a specialty of Mitchell's) are a central focus. The majority of the book covers the move to Taute, getting a house built, and settling into a routine of research -- not so much the research itself (don't worry, this isn't a heavy anthro monograph!), but the adventures and tribulations of trying at once to be close enough to the Wape to gain their cooperation and trust, yet distant enough not to be blinded from the forest by the trees, and to change as little as possible the dynamics of the culture he is observing.
Throughout, Mitchell gives both his own Western viewpoint and that of the Wape, and describes the sometimes tense, sometimes humorous disjuncture between the two. The writing is refreshingly casual and direct, though careful and precise. In describing how he came to realize that by appointing one or two full time (and hence more highly paid) helpers he was violating one of the basic precepts of his hosts: "If there were a windfall, whether it was a wild pig or a domesticated anthropologist, he should be cut up equally for all. ... Well, I was just not going around in enough equal pieces!"
Do try to find a copy of this with the dust jacket, which has a marvelous color photo (by Mitchell) of a group of children with a towering masked figure. There is an inset 30 page "photo essay" of serviceable black and white photos, primarily scenes of life in Taute and surrounding villages, from children playing (including Ned and Elizabeth) to some of the ceremonies he observed, including many of the people named in the text.

Wet Rogue Agent Gets Even

In "Bane of Cinco de Mayo," Author Mitchell provides a third view of the CIA and how it does business. (His two earlier works,
"The ProCon Conspiracy" and "The Pro Patria Project" also dealt with the CIA and its crime-fighting techniques). In "...Cinco
de Mayo" the hero, Jesus Garcia aka WC-99, becomes an operative the hard way and moves up fast. After succeeding on several
"black missions" out of CIA Headquarters in Langley, he gets transferred to the West Coast to be closer to his ailing father.
He becomes disgruntled by what he perceives as xenophobia and ethnic bias, and decides to get even. Pursued by a Latina ex-lover
who wants him dead because he dumped her for an Anglo beauty, Agent Garcia becomes a killing machine. Fed up with the system
and its hypocrisy, he turns into a wet rogue agent and metes out justice in his own way. He uses his special skills to assassinate
a Colombian drug lord, apprehend and eliminate international terrorists, and serve as a bodyguard for a governor whom he later
decides to murder. The author cleverly weaves intriguing subplots into the main theme to keep the reader rooting for heroes
who turn into villains, and vice-versa. The third of Mitchell's novels published in 2000, "...Cinco de Mayo" is an excellent
depiction of what is possible from the men and women who serve in one of this nation's most furtive, controversial institutions.
Hopefully, the ultimate motion picture will do the book justice.

In planning a return to the place of my childhood amd taking friends who had never been to that part of the country, I ordered
the book to show them where they were going. Imagine my surprise when I learned more about my hometown than I had ever known.
It was very interesting to see how little it had changed in 60 years.

This book covers all you could ever want to know about Baylor University. It is a MUST for potential students and their parents.
This book is relevant, informative and very well written. Topics covered include Nightlife, Campus Dining, Transportation,
etc. Each section has the basic facts on each subject area, but the best part are the quotes from current students that provide
an accurate description of the true nature of each subject. The author manages to provide humor in what would otherwise be
a dry subject. Way to go Kyra Mitchell for a very insightful guide!

This book will change your life because once you understand and practise the power of giving praise to yourself as well as
to others, you will learn to be bold. It is written in a clear but lively style. There are no big buzz words, no hype, no

wings. This book will inspire you to solve conflict, create relationships, strengthen work practices by using praise. By reading
this book you will feel bold enough to take that leap, risk that change or just be content to be the person you already are.
Give yourself a treat. Buy this book. And then buy others to give to those people you love.
