I THINK THE BOOK IS WONDERFUL. I HAVE READ I A MILLION TIMES AND I STILL CAN STOP READING IT,WELL WHAT CAN U SAY IF IT'S ABOUT ALLEN IVERSON. THE STORY REALLY INSPIRED ME AND MY SUGGESTION IS ---IF U HAVEN'T READ IT ALREADY ,GET IT AND READ IT NOW AND IF YOU HAVE READ IT, READ IT AGAIN!!!

What can you do to give children a sense of their Christian heritage and the awesome power of God? You could hold family devotions using Amazing Stories from Times Past by Christine Farenhorst. These short accounts draw on everything from the insignificant acorn to Queen Elizabeth, to teach biblical principles for a month's worth of devotions.

Each story covers three to five pages. Artist Steven Mitchell has illustrated several of the stories with black and white line drawings. Bible verses clarify the principle taught, and each story ends with a couple of thought-provoking questions.

Farenhorst provides a variety of story subjects and principles. Two stories tell of Pastor Haralan Popov's ministry in Communist Bulgaria, and trains on the principles of joy in trials and the furtherance of the gospel. The story of Paul "Bog" teaches of the foolishness of hoarding. "The Heaven Book" shows the marvelous intervention of God in delivering a Christian who had hidden smuggled Bibles in China. "The Marseillaise" shows the dangers of bitterness.

The stories would make good personal devotions for junior high students, but I believe students as young as fourth grade could benefit if read and discussed during family devotions. The questions challenge the reader to think, and make good conversation starters. A few of the questions reflect Farenhorst's reformed theology, but most of the reading and questions would appeal to a broad Christian audience.

I hope to use the book during homeschooling in a few years, but it would also be good for family devotions, private devotions, and perhaps Christian school or camp devotions. - Debbie W. Wilson, Christian Book Previews.com

Analyzing indeces may seem a boring task. However, Bonta has done much of the dirty work already for us. His painstaking analysis draws surprising conclusions about architects, their fame, society, and world history. I particularly enjoyed the way he tied world events to the results his data formulated. Architects, mathematicians, theorists, and many more should enjoy Bonta's masterful manipulation of index data to seek insight into the world of architecture in particular, and our world in general. One can't help but wonder what else Bonta may have been able to uncover if he had had an electronic database of indeces covering a wider spectrum of disciplines with which to work.

This is the best guide to New York for someone who wants info at their fingertips -- it is clear, well-organized, comprehensive and yet it is truly pocket sized. About 3 in by 7 in, or theirabouts. (which means the type is small, but it is very readable if your vision is good or corrected.) I just wish (HEAR THIS AM EX???) they would publish an updated version! My copy is from 1986 and although the museum and sites info is much the same, the restaurants, hotel and shopping sections are in dire need of new information.

This book raises some interesting questions about the roles of religion (specifically Puritanism), mourning and grief in early American literature, specifically Rowlandson's Captivity Narrative. I recommend this book to anyone who does serious research into early American literature, history, and cultural context. This is *not* an easy or light read.

This book is a remarkable example of reclaimed history; Maria Mitchell was a ground-breaker in so many ways, and all of those experiences result in a feminist view of life in general, but this book also includes a pointed observation about Women in the scientific community. Maria was a scientist and educator, a Suffragist, and ultimately a pioneer, in the most profound definition of that word. This book celebrates her complicated life and informs our own lives with her spirit and scholarship and inspiration. The author has given us a gift of this information.

This title, in two volumes, covers the vast sweep of Asia Minor's history, from Alexander to the height of the Byzantine Empire. The first volume concentrates on two major periods; the early part of the 3rd century BC when Celtic tribes settled throughout the interior, and the coming of the Romans and their colonisation of the eastern flank of their empire. Mr Mitchell has crafted an enormously readable history of the region. The detail is extraordinary but the prose never becomes turgid or obtuse. By examining the intertwined complexities of people's relations to the land and their Gods, Mr Mitchell has broken new ground and produced a book that is that most unusual of beasts, both readable and scholarly.
