Full Cast Performance is Delightful...Audio Quality is Excellent

This review refer to "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare -Naxos Audio Book(CD) Full Cast With Complete Text From New Cambridge Shakespeare

Who better to tell you a story than The Bard himself? And in this one he takes you away to a fairytale land of magic potions, fairy dust and "rare visions". Add some lords and ladies, some romance and delicious comedy and you'll be smiling all the way through.

All the elements for an enjoyable romp are here. Impish fairies spreading their magic turn the lives of four young lovers upside down with their mystical spells. A bumbling acting troupe finds one of it's members turned into a donkey, yet the object of the fairy queen's affections. All taking place in a beautiful moonlit forest. Will these sprites make everything right for these mere mortals? You'll have a merry time finding out!

Warren Mitchell as Bottom, Michael Maloney as Oberon, and Sarah Woodward as Titania lead a terrific full cast performance that will take you on this enchanted journey. Music between the scenes programmed by Neville Jason will have you caught up in the time era as well.

The audio book consists of 3 CDs and is an excellent quality. All dialogue is clear and distinct and sounds great on the stereo. Naxos has done a wonderful recording job. It also comes with a booklet that has cast bios, track listings for each disc and some notes on the play and it's stage history. Total running time of the entire play is 2 hours and 19 minutes. Naxos has this listed as a classic drama, although I've always considered it as a romantic comedy.

Recommended for a delightful way to spend a couple of hours around the house or in the car. Would also make a nice gift for the audio enthusiast
Thanx and...enjoy the read....Laurie

This recording of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Nights Dream"

is part of a series of recordings on the Naxos Audiobooks label.

Slowly they are putting together some very good to excellent

recordings of the plays and sonnets of the "Bard of Avon"

This recording perfectly captures the spirit of the play and

the music in the background brings a new feeling to the play.

All the perfoming versions of the plays released so far are based

on the Cambridge Shakespeare Edition. All can be easily

recommended.

A British Book

This book is truly superb - and an excellent encyclopedia, filled with tons of useful information. However, I must say don't forget this is a British book. Therefore, you will see references to British Pounds and U.S. Dollars. This is not really a problem, except when you are looking up a specific piece of furniture, which may have a different name in England. That said, I doubt most people will even notice the difference - so, not to worry - just something to keep in mind. I definitely recommend it -the images are incredible and all in color, filling every page cover to cover. It is the best book I've ever seen on antiques. In addition, I bought it at my local bookstore and paid $80.

Well worth the price!

This is a great book for beginning collector of Blue and White Pottery. It gives a great English view of Engish blue and white, and pictures are wonderful. Very rare pieces, how to collect, all three of her books are well worth the price for collectors in the U.S.

Miller's Staffordshire Figures of the 19th & 20th Centuries,

As an amature collector of Staffordshire Figures, I was looking for an inexpensive book to help with my collecting. In the City where I live, one can rarely find Staffordshire figures for sale. I started collecting on ebay and through that site I ran across Miller's book that Kit Harding and A. & N. Harding, who listed Staffordshire figures, consulted in writing. I cannot say enough good things about this book for the novice such as myself. It was a great quick reference book. The descriptions of the figures and excellent color photos helped me with the basic knowledge of the figures. This book listed prices and what factors to look for in distinguishing the authentic from fake. I highly recommend this book for any serious collector.

Affordable, enjoyable, and clear

I just purchased and read the book "Staffordshire Figures of the 19th and 20th Centuries". I chose this book because, compared to the other Staffordshire books, this one is affordable at [money amount]. Any concerns I had about quality were dispelled when I received the book. It is a richly illustrated visual guide. The images, though smallish (1.5 in. horiz. x 2.5 in. vertically) are clear and colorful. The commentary is nicely chunked for easy comprehension, and the prose is enjoyable. A small 'fact-file' section on each recto page introduces useful tips and tidbits for collectors. Buy this one first. You'll be pleased.

I really enjoyed this book on a long forgotten director of the golden era of Hollywood. A period of film making that I really enjoy reading about. Leisen was a first rate director who turned out many memorable films and was a fascinating personality in himself. An great read.

A forgotten director

In a list of now-forgotten great American directors, Mitchell Leisen would be right on top (together with Rouben Mamoulian and Gregory La Cava).

His films are seldomly seen; none of them is available on DVD and some of the best, like "Hold Back the Dawn", one of the best melodramas ever done, and the Kurt Weill musical adapation "Lady in the Dark", do not exist even in VHS.

Therefore, this book would always have at least the merit of drawing attention to this great director. I don't know of any other book written about him.

It is a good book, focusing on his films and including an interesting interview. The photo selection is also quite good.

So, if you want to discover an almost-forgotten director who I believe deserves a place in American Cinema alongside people like George Cukor and Leo McCarey, this book is an excellent way to start.

Then try and see as many of his movies as you can.

"Beyond minimalism there is a more ornamental approach to modern interiors." This statement couldn't be more true and this book is a great guide on navigating the marriage of the contrasting styles. I've often felt that contemporary design was visually a work of art that was cold, but when one chooses the perfect peices it can lead to the most accurate embodiment of personal style.

IMHO, this is the best book on home or garden design I've ever seen.

It contains one brilliant idea after another for adapting the ancient principles of the Japanese garden to the contemporary world. One of them I'm adapting for my a tiny space in NYC. My wife, who is a plant fanatic, cannot believe what a beautiful and haunting space can be created without any living plants at all.

The book forces you to see and to think and to move beyond the traditional Japanese garden as cliche and to think about what is timeless about thoughtful design.

I bought two. Can I give 6 stars?

I'm a garden designer and a big fan of exceptionally executed work. It is sometimes surprisingly hard to find good design work in design books, I often see one or two new ideas but almost never a whole book of inspiration like I found here.

This book is both a pleasure to look through and also to read. I find new inspiration every time I open it, it is the most diverse book on Japanese garden design I've seen. Many other books illustrate basic Japanese garden design principles, but their gardens usually look very similar. This book escapes that trap stunningly. Use it for information, inspiration, imagination.

You cannot go wrong here if design well done, exectued, maintained, and photographed is what you're looking for.

Since recently becoming a first time mother, I was searching for help in expressing the emotions I was feeling. This prayer book has it all. It contains prayers and thoughts for everything from conception to losing a child to a father's business trips to birth. I am grateful to have stumbled upon this treasure and would recommend it to all who are attempting to become parents or are considering adoption, as well as those who have achieved parenthood.

It will be of use to me and my students as i work with them to gain admission to America's top colleges. This book is very important for minority students. Unfortunately, it is now 2006 and this version was published in 1996. Minority students need to know about colleges and how they can be accepted on campus. They also need to know the groups on a college campus in which they can seek support and help when needed. I hope that a new version comes out at some point so minority students have somewhere to turn.

It provides a quality, fun read. It is topped-off with a most fetching and relevant cover , a clear reminder that life contains beautiful moments. One hopes that it is the first of many such efforts by this author. Congratulations to the author!
