The construction industry is as profitable as it is competitive. Now in a revised, updated and significantly expanded new edition, "Contractor's Survival Manual" by licensed architect and successful general contractor William D. Mitchell (and now revised by Brian E. P. Beeston) offers practical, step-by-step, process-by-process advice and instruction on starting, operating, and maintaining a construction business. Mitchell covers such issues as setting realistic goals, the use of limited partnerships, working with local building officials, calculating finances (including overhead, contingency and profit margins, structuring a company, building financial reserves, project estimations, scheduling and contracts, marketing and building a prospect list, billings and collections, the impact of economic cycles, using other people's money, alternatives to bankruptcy, dealing with lawsuits (including judgements and liens), becoming an effective salesman with prospective clients, and generally knowing the all the ins and outs of the contracting business. Enhanced with major new sections on using personal computers for bookkeeping, scheduling, and other tasks, web addresses for information resources appropriate for construction contracting, the "Contractor's Survival Manual" is an absolute necessity for those new to the business, and has a great deal of practical value for even the more experienced contractor in the field.

Mitchell is full of wisdom drawn from the depths of experience with hitting the bottom in the construction business and digging your way out and making sure you do not visit the bottom again. It is very practical and not overly technical. A real easy read in a couple of sittings.
Also, being an Architect he brings great perspective from the design arena and how the construction/design collaboration does and does not work. Read this book before ever jumping into the construction business.

This is such a tender view of America's favorite guy. I really enjoyed the range of time spanned by this book. I bought it originally in hardcover and then lent it to someone and never got it back. But the paperback is very high quality. You'll read "Lasca" and two of Waddie Mitchell's poems and lots of Omar Barker. It is a classic sure to please anyone. I read it aloud to my wife and she cried. I read it to my buddy at work and he laughed out loud at some of the poems. It's a great book.

This is a beautiful book containing some of the best poems ever written. Cowboys have a simple way of getting their point across, yet they write so tenderly and sometimes even a bit shyly. I highly recommend this book to cowboys and cowgirls everywhere who are hopeless romantics. What makes this book even nicer, is that it's broken into chapters, by subject. Whether it be heartbreak, courting, or just simply lovesick; this book is awesome!

I first read this series when I was still in grade school, back when the title's were the Prince's Players, Tournement and Tower and City By The Sea (does that make me old or what?) They were the only stories that I would read over and over and over and ---well you get the point. I loved reading about Randal, Lys and Walter, their story seem more realistic to me b/c the charcter's actually had consequences for their actions: like Randal's ever present scar from when he broke a majory wizardry rule in order to...(read the first one and find out) When they went out of print and my library sold them I was crushed (though I did find #2 and #3 at a used book store a year or two ago.) I'm glad that once more the series is back in print and other people can journey with the trio like I once did.

This book was originally published ten years ago under the title The Prince's Players. It hasn't lost any of its freshness or originality since its first publication. It was great then, both as a stand-alone book and as part of the series. (The Circle of Magic books tell one story from beginning to end if you read them in order.) All of them can be read by themselves, though, without losing the magic, the charm, and the characters.

I'm glad that these books are coming back into print, so another generation of kids can get their first taste of fantasy. There's lots hidden inside of them for older readers and more experienced fantasy readers too. This is a series that isn't just for kids.

Anyway, in this book Randal (the hero) learns more about what magic means, both to himself and to others. The overall thrust is of self-discovery, personal responsibility, and other positive values, told in the midst of an exciting action-packed adventure. Violence, spies, good twins, bad twins, and theatre all mixed, with the hero making choices that matter. Good book.

The continuing story of Shayleen and her family and life in Colorado. The story has a old western romance edge to it. A lot of surprises through out the story. Wonderful historial referances in this book. Again Native American people given the honor of truth in these pages. This was a wonderful second book. I laughed and cried all the way through. Another book I could not put down.

I was captured on my reading of the author's first installment of the life of Shayleen, a spunky young women. Shayleen, who had drawn the hearts of two wonderful men, now you finally see where her choice has taken her.

Living in the 1800's we find in this second book Shayleen married to her 'mountain man' Trace.
I smiled as I read of the joyous life she was living. Loved by a wonderful man, blessed with several children, surrounded by close friends and family, Shayleen had everything any women could ask for.....until her world was shattered and her life would change forever.

Hearing the news that General Custer and all of his men were massacred sent the territory into a time of deep hate among the Indian and the white man. The author takes you into the soul of Shayleen as she struggles with the injustices that are running rampart in the land she loves.
You travel with Shayleen through her life, bear with her the loss of friends and family, times and places. You rejoice with her over the birth of more children and the victory she receives in her battle against those who breed hatread towards the natives of the land.

The author brings to light all that has happened to the characters that you had come to know and love in her first book, weaving them into the storyline and drawing you into the very heart of their existence.
There are so many happenings in this work. Some joyous, some heartbreaking and as we come to the end of Shayleen's life, we laugh and we cry. Glad that she has a granddaughter that has her Spirit and will carry on her vision, glad that she will be reunited with her love Trace for eternity, yet sad that the earth would no longer have the spark of life from this women, that you knew made it a better place to live.
Dark Skies of Autumn, a book about life, death, fear, hope and eternity. Well worth your time.

From the first page to the last, this novel keeps you reading. The plot is layered and complex, with surprising twists. The characters are real, believable and get you emotionally involved as if you are right there with them. Descriptions and writing are beautifully executed.
Even though I haven't seen other books by Jo Mitchell, I hope she has another one ready to go--I'm already hooked!

This book draws you in immediately and keeps you interested until the last page. The characters are interesting and believable - especially Lily, the main character. You just fall in love with her from the start. Most women will easily relate to Lily and the predicaments she encounters.

The book is as good as, or better, than any James Patterson or Patricia Cornwell novel. The story moves along quickly - it is suspensful, with many surprising twists. I just loved it and had a hard time putting it down to do my chores. I could have read it in one sitting if I had had the time. I finished it quickly and I can't wait for the next book by this author. You will love this book!!

The dictionary defines the word welfare as financial or other aid provided, especially by the government, to people in need. But does that meaning portray in true terms what someone on welfare really goes through every single day in this country. I would argue that it does not. In order to get a working understanding of someone on welfare in this country, one needs to go no further than reading Dear Self. This is a journal written over three decades ago by a phenomenal woman in a span of one year. Richelene Mitchell, a welfare mother of seven allows us to enter a world through her journal most of us have not experienced. A world of humiliation, poverty, racism, anxiety and frustration. But this story is not all about the disappointments of life but about elevating the human spirit and having the ability to live with such difficult life experiences with dignity, fortitude, mettle, and class. Ms. Mitchell's story tells us that life can throw many obstacles but know that we all have the potential for greatness regardless of our social standings. It's about patiently persevering through trials and tribulations. She was truly a remarkable woman and it was an honor to have shared a year of her life. If you want to be inspired, I highly encourage you to read this book.

I happen to come across this book quite by accident at the library one day. I couldn't check it out at the time, but once I could, I went right back and got that book, and I tell you, this is no ordinary welfare mother, but then again, who is? or who isn't? Richeline was born in Georgia, finished high school in South Philadelphia, got married and ended up in New Britain, Connecticut with seven kids. She resolved for 1973 to write a journal of her life and concerns, and that she did. One of the entries while discussing her financial woes, she muses if she sold this journal what would it profit? sadly, she didn't live to see the results. She speaks of not being able to work for herself(although she does work parttime at a dry cleaners)and giving her body to science as a sort of payback, writing letters to the local newspaper editor and seeing them published as well. She yearns that her children would break the cycle and become better adults, and at the end of the book, there is a section on what happened to her children. She also talks about her health. She suffered from seizures, and she valiantly tried to keep it from her kids. Nevertheless, after reading this book, one would think twice about labeling someone a welfare queen or what have you. Richeline Mitchell may have been a welfare mother, but I believe she was far more than that. A great book and highly recommended for all.

The book Dear Self is an excellent book that everyone should read. It really draws the reader into never wanting to put it down. It appeals to people of every upbringing, age, and culture. The reader will feel as though they have experienced what the very writer has gone through. The emotions of sadness, happiness, and times of struggle have an immense affect on any person who reads this book. Superbly put together, Dear Self proves that with struggle there is ease. Richelene Mitchell, who documents these stories in a diary, proves that, although everyone has struggles or difficulties in life, with determination, patience, and acceptance of those struggles, one will succeed. What I found amazing about the writer was the fact that she never expressed pain throughout her illness of epilepsy. She continued to provide for her seven children, with endless love and support. This is most definitely a book that everyone can learn at least one lesson from, especially through the writer's strength, patience, and courage.

This book could only have been written by a local of the Owens Valley or a former employee of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP). Kirk Mitchell portrays the exact feelings that the people of the Owens Valley have on the taking of water by the city of Los Angeles. He not only demonstrates how long this battle has been going on, but also that it is still ocurring with Los Angeles not cooperating with the Long Term Groundwater agreement it has with Inyo County (Waucoba County). The descriptions of the LA aqueduct and of the Valley itself truly depict what it looks like. The use of the characters portrays what it is like to be a local of the Owens Valley. Entwined in this history is a mystery that a lead female charcter BLM Ranger is working on involving the bombing of the LA aqueduct. An excellant book even if you are not from the Owens Valley.

Cameron is Adam's best friend, and Adam's brother, Noah, first crush. Cam manged to refuse Noah's advances when the boy was 15 yd and Cameron a freshman in college, but when the boy turned 19 yd, they spent a night of passion after Adam's wedding. But the morning after Noah woke up in an empty room with a second hand message that Cam had to take a fly early. Seven years later, Noah has had two serious relationship, but still when he has the chance to meet again Cam, he is ready to jump at the possibility.

Cam has a work that makes him travel a lot all around the USA and for most part of the year. He is used to fucking around without problem, but lately, turning 30 yd created an hollow in him that he couldn't understand. But he is an adult thinking man, and he can deal with his emotions and feelings. Something that Noah seems not able to do. Of the two, who is willing to talk and make compromise, is Cam. He knows he has some issues in his life, but he is willing to share and try to straighten them. And he is able to see when Noah has something on his mind that he has not the courage to spill out.

Cam makes some big mistakes in this book: first leaving without a word after taking Noah's virginity (and doesn't matter if Noah likes all the time) and second continuing to fucking around even if he has met again Noah and more or less has started a relationship with him (and doesn't matter if Noah has not asked him to be exclusive and that luckily, we didn't read about it in the book but only knew about it by Cam's word). But still, strangely, of the two men in the book, who seems to me more ready to start a steady relationship is Cam. Cam makes some mistakes, but he is ready to admit them; instead Noah maybe doesn't do nothing wrong, but with his silence and his attitude to hide when he is hurt, he risks to ruin everything even before everything is started.

Diving in Deep is a pretty much erotic novel. Seldom the two men are out of a bedroom doing something else than making love, but there are also some pretty involving confrontation scenes, and I think this is a good romance of two men who manage to start a relationship not from a love at first sight but with some solid basis for it. It's pretty true what Cam asks to himself, how can he knows if he is fallen in love?
he always thought that he would woke up one morning in love, but love can grow slowly but inexorably over the time.

Another very good read from a new author I will look forward to.

When he comes to Florida to do a safety training seminar, the last person Cameron Lewis expects to see is Noah Winthrop. His best friend's little brother is all grown up and sexier than ever, but Cameron's not sure if he should be pleased to see him. After all, Noah's longtime crush on him led to their one night together after his friend's wedding, and he isn't exactly proud of the way he handled himself the next morning.

Noah is more than pleased when he meets Cameron again, and he's never forgotten his first real crush--or the way he felt when Cam disappeared on him after their night together. Cam is still attracted to him as well, and they end up in bed. Unfortunately, Noah begins to realize that he wants more from Cam than just one night. Will this be a repeat of the last time they were together? Or can they get it right this time?

This clinches it. I am now officially a KA Mitchell fangirl. I liked her stuff before, but she's proven she's more than a one-hit wonder with Diving in Deep! I loved Noah, who was, by turns, confident and insecure. The slow maturing of his feelings from youthful crush to adult love was sweet to read. Despite Cameron's commitment-phobia, I liked and sympathized with him as well. The love scenes were well-written and hot, and the emotions developing between Noah and Cam made them even more enjoyable to read. I went through bouts of happiness, sadness, and anger right along with the characters as they struggled their way from a weekend to a relationship. If you're in the mood for a read with two hot men, great love scenes, and lots of emotion, don't hesitate to pick up Diving in Deep, but be warned--you won't want to put it down!

DIVING IN DEEP by K. A. Mitchell

Noah has had a crush on his older brother's best friend since his teenage years. They had one brief encounter when Noah was a teen, and one steamy night at a wedding six years ago. When Noah finds out Cameron will be his instructor in a training seminar for work, he decides to make Cameron notice him. When Cameron sees the gorgeous man at the front of the classroom, he can hardly believe the man is Noah, his best friend's kid brother. Sparks fly, and the men can't resist their attraction for one another. Is their passionate encounter just the result of Noah's teenage crush and Cameron's loneliness, or will their affair develop into something more?

This book is absolutely incredible! First of all, this is indescribably sexy. "Hot" doesn't even begin to describe the love scenes in DIVING IN DEEP. This author is an absolute master of sexual chemistry. I'm surprised the electricity these boys generated didn't fry my hard drive! The heat level in this book is off the charts. Jeez, even the phone sex in this book is incredible.

Cameron is a brooding tough guy with a dominant alpha personality. He always gets what he wants. Noah is an alpha male as well and was always the dominant partner in his previous relationships, but something about Cameron brings out his needy, submissive side. I don't know about you, but I get hot thinking about an alpha bottom. Noah is SO sexy. You just have no idea. Cameron occasionally got on my nerves with his caveman alpha mindset and commitment phobia, but his sexual compatibility with Noah made up for it. Noah always seemed to need exactly what Cameron was willing to give him.

There are no scary bad guys in this book, no phony drama, and there are very few supporting characters. This is Cameron and Noah's story, and there's very little interference from outside forces. Cameron is afraid of long-term relationships and Noah spends a lot of time trying to figure out how to make Cameron see him as a man and not the kid with a crush, but somehow the author addresses these issues without creating a stupid Big Misunderstanding like you see so often in M/F romance. The men have issues, and they work on them like men--not like teenaged girls.

The book description on the publisher's site warns that there is "mild dominant/submissive behavior". The key word is "mild"...as in basically nonexistent. It's so mild that I think the warning was completely unnecessary, and even slightly misleading to those who actually look for hardcore BDSM themes.

This is a great e-book by a great author. I highly recommend it.

Zannos covers Barrymore like an asbestos blanket. Indepth, insightful and insipid, this book gets to heart of what makes Barrymore tick. It's about heart, people. Barrymore came from nothing. No money. No famous name to fall back on ... it was what was in her heart that made her famous. I'll always remember her fondly for her hair-raising performance in Boys on the Side. I'm not sure if Barrymore did any more films after that but there was also a great performance in that film by a man who goes by the name of Whoopi ... is that right? Whoopi? Mr. Whoopi Goldberg? Hmm. Anyway, he was good and reminded me of a young Al Roker.

Take a deep breath and then open your mind to a powerful new approach to understanding our economy. The Ultimate America provides step by step, logical, easy to read facts about our monetary system, defying everything we've ever learned from our politicans and the media . . . and it really makes sense! I love being challenged. The Ultimate America challenged my ability to think beyond what I've learned from the Democratic and Republican platforms, and truly understand federal income, debt, taxes, spending and what it all means to our economy and to our quality of living. I read The Ultimate America twice, and it has really changed my way of thinking.

This book challenges many commonly held perceptions about our economy. It made me look at government and business policies in an entirely new light. If you are looking to broaden your understanding of money and the economy - read this book!

It's an extremely logical and realistic look at our economy.

I thought this would be another dull, politically motivated economy book and I was dead WRONG! It was extremely eye opening and a little scarey; exposing the myths and realities of our economy and the politicins who control it. Every person, whether interested in government, business, economy, or the wellfare of our country should read this book.
