Cute Book For Dog Lovers

My son picked this book out at a book fair when he was in preschool. He would ask me to read it to him everyday and when I wasn't reading it to him he would sit and look at the pictures on his own. My son's favorite part in the book is where they have to hook Benny up to a machine because he isn't able to smell. My son loved to trace the long maze of pipes from the machine to Benny's nose. It is such a cute book for any child who loves to read and loves dogs.

This is such a sweet story of a young dog named Benny who comes down with a runny, stuffed-up nose and can no longer smell his favorite smells. After a trip to the doctor, and a remedy that only a mother could concoct, Benny recovers in time to discover, and remember, his favorite smell of all. A loving story to share between mother and child.

Easily the best field guide to berries available. Cheap too. I am now using my fourth copy of this extremely useful little booklet: previous copies lost or "loaned". Others in the Nature Study Guide series are good but none live up to the high quality of this one.

This text was original published in the early 1980s. It was the outgrowth of the lecture notes that Rupert produced and I ahd the priviledge of taking the two quarter course in Applied Statistics from Rupert Miller. Our course that Rupert taught so brilliantly to students before during and after my years at Stanford was originally published by Wiley and should have become one of the books in the Wiley Classic Series as his Survival Analysis book became. The book has been overlooked and underrated. Nevertheless I consider it to still be the best introductory graduate level text on linear models. It is especially noteworthy for its great organizational style and clarity. Miller gets to the heart of the methods and their applications and for each case he looks carefully at the modelling assumptions and what the effect of violations to normality and variance homogeneity have on the analysis. He also presents the alternative techniques to use when the results are heavily affected by assumption violations. I often go back to this book as a reference and I am glad that Chapman and Hall/CRC had the wisdom to reprint this text so that a new genration of statisticians can benefit from it and use it in their professional life.

Rupert Miller was the best instructor I had as a Stanford graduate student. This book came out of lecture notes that he produced for the required applied statistics course in the Statistics Department at Stanford. I took both quarters of that course. He was an excellent lecturer and writer. The book emphasizes practical aspects of the analysis of variance and deals with issues of robustness and modifications when the basic assumptions fail. It is set out in a very logical manner and deals with ANOVA and regression. It deals with transformations and is unique in its treatment of ratios. Discussion of departures from model assumptions is both useful and insightful. The book was published in 1986 prior to Miller's death and was updated by Brown posthumously in 1996. Brown worked closely with Miller on biostatistical applications at Stanford University. Other related books that Miller wrote or helped with included the Biostatistics Casebook, Survival Analysis (both published by Wiley) and Simultaneous Statistical Inference (published in its second edition by Springer-Verlag).

David Barbot's charming tale of Senora Amelia and her family of pets. One year, her chicken asks for a bike for her birthday. Senora Amerlia is added by a stranger in fulfilling the request. Morella Fuenmayor's illustrations are detailed and full of wonder. Originally published in Venezuela as Rosuara En Bicicleta. If you love a chicken on a bike, you might also like a cow on a bike...Marta and the Bicycle

Have you ever seen a hen riding a bike? Well, this story is as magic as that. Ms. Amelia loves her pets and she always does her best to find incredible gifts for them, this time, is Rosaura's birthday and she wants a bike. Even though it is not possible to believe that somebody will take the time to design a bike for a hen, a very mysterious person happened to pass by Ms. Amelia's house and he builds the bike. This story can be considered as Magic Realism for kids, a very common literary style in Latin America, that will fill your heart with happinness, laughs and nice thoughts. The drawings of Ms. Fuenmayor are spectacular (color pencil).

This is an awesome biology book! I'm in 7th grade and I really enjoyed learning from this textbook in my science class. It is packed with information and easy to understand, but at the same time also goes in depth. I found it very interesting. There are so many different and exciting topics in it!

This easy to read text was a good book for helping me learn biology for my college classes. I really liked topics on animal structure and function and ecology. I also found Patrick Leonardi's "The Ultimate Study Guide for Biology: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations" vol 1, vol 2, and vol 3 to have excellent test preparation questions that guided me on the importants points to study (and very helpful for my exams!).

This is book contains the best bird photographs I have seen. The photographer has some of the most unusual shots of birds. The pictures capture the birds in there normal activities. The text was well written especially keeping the order by seasons. Great job I hope to see more books by these authors.

A remarkable clear and concise description of Southern coastal birds by seasons of the year. This unique classification will allow even the novice to identify and enjoy migratory birds. Fontenot and Miller's work will enable the entire community of bird watchers to share appreciation of this National treasure. Two species that come to mind are the common blue bird and the rare sand hill crane which we enjoy in the Northern Summer.

The photography is a tour de Force in the Audubon tradition and the bird and habitat description could have only been done by a seasoned birder with years of on site experience. As a bonus Birds of the Gulf Coast is a coffee table quality book. epa

This book deals with your birthdate and the correlation to a deck of playing cards. I was amazed at how accurate they pegged me. I was so fascinated at how without knowing me, this book could give me so many insightful looks into the positive and negative (unfortunately) traits of my personality and others. This is a MUST for every coffee table in America. You really need to get a look at the information in this book!

Great source of accurate information!

I first found out about the Cards of Illumination from a radio broadcast! The two authors were interviewed and explained how the sytem works clearly and simply. It was fun. The calls into the show were hilarious, because all the callers were really "pegged"! Everyone who called in was amazed, including me! Your birthdate corresponds to a card in a regular deck of cards. I was flabbergasted at how accurately I was described. Anyway, I recommend the book! It is a lot of fun, and easy to use. You can look up your friends as well as romantic interests to check for compatibility. The authors explain the system clearly and it is easy to follow and understand.

One of the Great Reference Works on the Old West

Review Date: 2002-04-23
I acquired this book many years ago and have re-read it several times since. It is one of the most respected history books concerning the Old West because it relies on contemporary newspaper and similar accounts. It turns up in the bibliography of just about every worthwhile Western history book, and deservedly so.

Some years ago, as a professor of Criminal Justice, I was asked to teach a course about the History of the Policing Profession and while scrambling for research, this was in the days before Internet etc., I discovered Great Gunfighters of the Kansas Cowtowns. I was very pleased with the content and the measureable factual accounts or as factual as they can be within this era. Actual newspaper articles and descriptions written at the time of the event are included in the book along with the exploits of lesser known lawmen/gunfighters of that era. Ben Thompson, Long Hair Jim Courtright, Dave Mather, Billy Brooks, Chris Madden, Squirrel Annie, Bear River Tom Smith are amoung lesser lights highlighted along with Wild Bill, Wyatt Earp and others. The newspaper accounts are quite factual, plus they revealed an evolution of the culture of the era. Great Gunfighters is not a novel, but is a display of the activities of several individuals who by one means or another contributed to both the allure and order of the cowtowns and other western sites.

COMPLEX PLOT WITH MANY CHARACTERS
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-02
Black Tide has had a publishing history as complex as the plot of its story. Starting with Image, then moving on to Avatar before finding its home at Angel Gate press. It's not easy trying to categorize Black Tide. There are characters with super powers who wear costumes but it's not a super hero title really. Part Sci-fi, part fantasy, with elements of covert intrigue and superhero action, Black Tide is one of the more multifaceted stories I've read in quite a long time. Trying to summarize the story in a short review would not really do the multi-layered plotline justice, but let me give you a bit of a synopsis.

Nearly 13,000 years ago the legendary lost city of Atlantis was destroyed and sunk beneath the ocean, yet its people endured. Using far advanced technology the people regenerated themselves, building a new home, far below the surface, cloaked from modern man. It is in this modern world we meet Justin Braddock, leader of a special ops team known as "The Deceivers." All his life he has been haunted by strange nightmares and he's finally about to find out why. While on a mission he encounters Kaila, an Atlantean and helps her rescue an Atlantean Prince named Theros. They return to Atlantis where Justin comes face-to-face with the revelation that he had once been Atlantis' greatest enemy, Villonious, responsible for much bloodshed and death. Villonious had been placed in stasis and was regenerated as a human who should not have had these memories of his previous life. Queen Celestia decrees that Justin be put to death for his past crimes but Theros intercedes on his behalf since he is the rightful ruler. He frees Justin, and to Celestia's consternation, Justin, Theros, and Kaila leave Atlantis for the surface world.

We then find out that Kaila herself is also a member of the Deceivers as well and Justin never knew it. They were once lovers in Atlantis but Justin now does not hold those same feelings as he did as Villonious. Celestia will not give up her son or Justin so easily and allies herself with the Catharta, the witch who stole Theros' powers. While all this is going on, Justin and Kaila are determined to find out who killed Justin's partner and friend, and also track down terrorists who intend to use a biological bomb at an international summit meeting. Theros is forced to return to Atlantis to deal with great trouble at home. The Atlanteans are not happy that Theros freed the slaves before he left and there is rebellion on the rise against him.

Whew! And trust me I'm being brief. Writer Debbie Bishop has woven a story that is extremely intricate and layered with plots, and sub-plots and even a few sub sub-plots, I think. It's certainly not a story you can breeze through and I found myself re-reading sections just to make sure I had everything straight. One thing Bishop does is devote a full page here and there to a character, giving their background, powers, etc, which really helps you get a handle on who is who in the story. Kind of like a graphic novel scorecard. The art by Mike S. Miller is first-rate and very smooth. If you like in-depth, elaborate storylines, then this is unquestionably a book you'll want to read. It's rare that you get a comic series this complex today.
