The author, Jean A. Meyer, took the great challenge of writing on the immensely controversial subject matter. His dynamic coverage of all aspects concerning, La Cristiada, is truly an ingenius accomplishment. It gives the reader the liberty of reading his journal-like manuscript, with ease and confidence. Knowing that it is a complete work.

This is a fantastic book. Be warned, however, this is not easy reading. One may see his influence on NT Wright's work. Ben Meyer in this book has established himself as a very thoughtful New Testament scholar. Though one could quibble with using the philosophical work of Catholic philosopher/ theologian Bernard Lonergan (I won't here)-- regardless--this is an outstanding contribution to biblical studies. I only wish it were more well known. Along with Meyer's book "The Aims of Jesus" this book should be on the shelf of everyone interested in understanding the New Testament better.

In a world where action/adventure writers seem to be popping up faster than ever, it's a real treat to find an author who really knows his subject matter.

This author knows how people, not just terrorists, think -- he understands them and uses that to its best advantage. The plot line is uncannily real and any one of the characters could be your neighbor, your boss, your best friend. Meyers' book, the sequel to "The Jericho Gambit," is one of the best to hit the market in years.

Do you like Clive Cussler or Tom Clancy? If so, grab this book and read it over and over to find every detail, every nuance Meyer's has hidden within the pages. It will give you another chilling perspective on the terrorist attacks. I'm a fan of both previously mentioned authors, and Frederick Meyers gives them both a run for my money. Well done.

Excellent video series

I just finished watching this video series, and I'm pretty impressed. The setup is very professional, and easy to watch. Eric Meyer uses a made-up site, Javaco Tea, for teaching the CSS concepts. And, he goes through every detail, from masthead to footer, explaining how each piece works. He assumes you already know the basics of CSS syntax, and the reasons for using CSS. At the same time, he doesn't skip over things when showing how the page is built. He explains why each value is what it is. I felt his use of selectors was nice and clear, and I liked his example of using negative margins to allow two columns to sit side by side. If you want to get up to speed quickly on how a CSS-based site is put together, I would highly recommend this product.

The only problem I found was he apparently didn't test with IE6 for Windows. The test page works fine on Firefox, but the masthead breaks on IE6. One of the Amazon reviews for the similarly-titled book gives the fix:

In #masthead, an additional rule is needed:

Beyond Platitudes

In Dangerous Peace-Making, Meyer-Knapp offers an intelligent, exhaustively researched, and brilliantly argued analysis of complicated and often unpredictable factors that must be understood if one wants to understand how wars end. While acknowledging the passion and commitment of "ordinary people committed to peace," Meyer-Knapp's case studies of wars in Rwanda, Bosnia, Ireland, Palestine, and South Africa illustrate her contention that "the peace-oriented should lay . . . responsibility squarely at the feet of . . . the political leaders," those with the power to sanction war and to end it. Her concluding chapter about justice, mercy, memory and peace offers mercy, especially, not as "forgiveness," but as deliberate decision and action. "Without mercy, without the willingness to desist from the punitive and destructive acts that remain within their power, there is no way for leaders in a war to bring their fighting to an end." This is an important book, one that thoughtful citizens should read, particularly those who want to move beyond over-simplified analyses to one grounded in historical and political realities.

With the daode jing, i hear, a translator can only try. Thomas Meyer has shaped a wonderful version of this work that helps readers get closer to its insights and wisdoms. He shapes lines--"despite the splendid vistas / to remain completely at ease . . . too easygoing and you lose track / too much intention and lose control"--with a sure skill and gives one food for the journey.
Nine bows!

Shelley Sessions was a young teenager when her rich, powerful, charismatic and manipulative adopted father, Bobby Sessions began to sexually molest, and shortly thereafter, to rape her. I do not want to give away DARK OBSESSION's entire plot, but suffice it to say the story involves Shelley's kidnapping and virtual imprisonment; a mental hospital that functioned basically as a country club and which provided about as much therapy; and a series of deluded religious fundamentalists who feel that 16 year old Shelley bears as much blame for her own sexual abuse as her incestuous rapist/father. It also covers in comprehensive, but not prurient, detail Shelley's mistreatment (which is massive, continuing, and committed by both of her parents) as well as Shelley's unlikely vindication.

DARK OBSESSION co-authored by Shelley Sessions and journalist Peter Meyer is amazingly well written. Meyer tells the story in the third person, but first person quotes by Shelley are interwoven with and compliment Meyer's narrative. Other relatives, friends and acquaintances of the Sessions are also quoted extensively to supplement Meyer's narrative which is the framework of the book. The quotes are clearly real - the result of substantial interviewing - as opposed to the false or "reconstructed" quotes often found in true crime. There is not a false note in this book, and you will not want to put it down.

DARK OBSESSION is not really straight true crime. It is more a combination of true crime and a memoir. There is no detective work - and no detectives - and the courtroom scene at the end is brief, presents new rather than re-hashed information, and is actually the dramatic culmanation of the whole book. There is also, unfortunately, no picture section. Regardless of how it's labeled, true crime fans and non-fans alike will love this book.

hardhitting common sense about debt and money
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-01
there is nothing new under the sun here. its hardhitting common sense here and really makes a point of showing how advertisers in this corporate culture have managed to warp and associate debt to wealth which could be nothing further from the truth. Dave pounds out point by point every facet of how you are taken in by sucker deals from credit companies and reframes ideas about how one should think about debt. nothing but hard work, saving, not spending on excesses, cutting corners etc. In spite of saying anyone with common sense would know it is good to hear Dave getting in your face about it - that alone watched once a month will save you money. It really made me realize how much money I was wasting on buying health destroying fast food and other meaningless expenses. if applied to the credit card debt I currently have it would really make me less of a slave to credit card bills. I would highly recommend this dvd to anyone as well as some of Dave Ramsey's other material. I feel he brings an important message to the majority of Americans who are racked with debt up to their necks. Thank you Dave Ramsey for presenting this timely and necessary material.
