Every coached needs to be coached by the BEST!!

Being a coach of a high school girl's fastpitch softball team, the title of this book caught by attention. Although the titles and captions are quotes from various famous football coaches, their profound words of wisdom reflect to every person who is involved in coaching in some capacity. The book has inspired me to become a better coach through applying particular principles laid out in this fabulous book. I have learned to lead more by my actions than by my words. Words are more effective if their is the action that follows after them. We are coaching not only to win the game, but to develop winning players and leaders. Read this book and see if you don't make some radical changes in how you lead.I am now working on becoming an effective leader in all areas of my life.

The best literature anthology available

Quite simply, The Bedford Introduction to Literature is the best introductory lit anthology available. Unlike many of the books out there, this title actually makes an effort to include contemporary authors and not just the same old stuff. Moreover, there are some surprises thrown in like Kanye West lyrics in the poetry coverage or an episode of Seinfeld in the collection of plays. The author includes these x-ray type close readings...it shows what to highlight, has notes on why particular things are important, etc. Plus, there is plenty of support for writing, research, critical theory, and more. Basically, it has everything you could want for in a book like this. My favorite section is the case study of Julia Alvarez which includes interviews, insights from Alvarez on her work, personal photos and her HANDWRITTEN DRAFTS...fascinating stuff. I've looked at a lot of other anthologies (Roberts, DiYanni, Perrine) at teacher conferences and this one really offers instruction and selections no other book has.

By far, one of the best literature books around.
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.

Bedford is an excellent resource for teaching literature, as well as a wonderful book just to open up and read. It offers a wonderful variety of poetry and critical commentaries on various selections throughout the text. It gives wry examples on how to recognize bad writing, including a passage from a particularly bad romance novel and an example of doggerel poetry, "The Magic of Love." Michael Meyer ought to be commended for such a well-rounded, comprehensive resource.

This is one of the best books I've read concerning how to work with pre-teens. I have bought multiple copies, and am giving them to all my youth workers and Sunday School teachers. I loved this book! It was very helpful to my understanding of these students.

A "call to arms" for business
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-01-21
In recent years, much has been made about the faults of the branding business. Most has spawned from a misunderstanding of the discipline or the misuse of the term. The authors, all of whom are long-time experts in the field and members of the Medinge branding think-tank, realize this; and rather than addressing the definition of the term (that is better done in a more rudimentary text), they have taken a higher ground by showing the possibilities of branding for the good of humanity.

In effect, Beyond Branding brings together knowledge of the world's leading branding authorities - and their most pressing issues - in one volume.

It is a "call to arms" for branding and business in general: the authors argue that the changes can take place immediately in any organization, beginning with the individual. To help their mission, there is a web site at www.beyond-branding.com, which features a regularly updated blog, which serves as both an appendix to the book and a way to interact with readers to effect their changes.

Beautiful nude portraits

Review Date: 2002-03-09
Real people photographed nude, rather than the depersonalized images so prevalent elsewhere. High resolution portraits that do not attempt to disguise imperfection. The U.S. edition carries a different cover photo to the European edition; perhaps chosen for acceptability in the more conservative American market. If you want the beautiful cover photo shown on the European edition, try purchasing the book from Amazon's UK store.

I walked the streets of Grove City, Ohio looking for a trace of it's native son inventor. Nothing! Passersby didn't know who he was. He'd been dead 7 years (1998), but wouldn't you think they'd have erected a statue or named a street after him or something, in view of the twenty-some years of his life that he dedicated to bringing us clean, renewable, free energy from water? And then they give almost $2 billion to the oil industry to look for hydrogen fuel technology! What a joke! Beam me up, Scotty, there's no intelligent life down here!
