It's easy to read and the structure is logical. Both picture and text describes the movement and how it should be executed. It's good for both the student and the teacher, and contains beside the descriptions of movements the basic of jazzhistory, music theory, stretch and a lot more. It's a good book.

What a great book

I teach jazz dance in a college setting and recommend this book for my students. Jump into Jazz breaks the art of Jazz dance down beautifully. I have found this book to be extremely helpful and concise. The illustrations are easy to understand, and the worksheets at the back of the book are a wonderful way for my students to test their understanding of the ideas presented.

My Daddy is Jewish and My Mommy is Christian is a lovely book with adorable illustrations. I bought it for my kids and they love it. Since we celebrate both Christian and Jewish holidays, I thought it was important to introduce both religions to my children. I hope that Michele Meyer writes more books.

This book is a great tool for interfaith families. More and more families are choosing to raise their children in an interfaith setting. Often times the holidays are a large part of confusion and which religion should be the main focus. This book shows how you can celebrate both religions in a warm and nurturing environment. It is a great lesson on tolerance and respect.

The simple but profound truths in this book opened a lot of eyes -- within the chemical industry and in the real world. Facing some of the strongest opposition, Dr. Colborn changed lives (and scientific approaches) with Stolen Future. Humanity owes her a debt of gratitude.

Perhaps EPA will start to require testing of chemicals for endocrine disruption. Regulations have only been delayed for a dozen years...

This book is an incredible read. I highly recommend it for anyone who is concerned about the environment and their own health. This book contains a lot of research, which contributes to its credibility, however it is far from your typical scientific book. It's a fascinating read for anyone, whether they have a background in biology or environmental science or not. I actually read it as part of an extra credit assignment for one of my college classes. My original intention was to skim the book and write a summary. I became so wrapped up in the book that I literally read it cover to cover - including the forward and the afterward. I later purchased my own copy. This book is both challenging and fascinating. Read it!

For anyone who is concerned about the state of the environment this is a must read book. Well written and researched this book fills in the big gaps regarding chemical pollutants in our water, soil, and air. This isn't a cheerful book but perhaps with the data presented more people will become involved in cleaning up our planet through cleaning up our industrial sector.

As a teacher of permaculture design I have found this book to be an invaluable resource!

A great, easy to read arguement that we are creating our own demise to profit in the short term. Theo has had a daunting task and put together the pieces of scientific evidence into a timely work of art that questions the side effects of our daily practices. I'd love a sequeal for personal and corporate change that would, of course, only slow the possible outcomes of our daily lives and of those wonderous creatures which have no choice inhabiting and inheriting the tainted sphere with us.

If you are senior RD, then it's the book for you, especially in hardware system industry. I personally appreciate the section of composite design and the concept of product platform. It provide general guide to learn from competitor and way to surpass them.
Software portion is not recommended since the example it provide is not solid enough to work out the argument to apply the same concept to software. However, you may workout your ideas from original platform concept in software planning. Maybe. It remain as a question to me until now.

This book changed how I approach product design. It focuses on designs that will succeed in the market place. It's not a book specifically on designing for a market, but how a set of systems built on a common platform will allow you to compete in multiple markets at the same time. Meyer and Lehnerd combine marketing, manufacturing, design and strategy. It's loaded with great examples from companies like Black and Decker and EMC. Also impressive is that the authors show how apply platform principles in software and service markets as well as traditional manufacturing

This terrific book explains how to plan and execute a product platform which leads to a series of continuously improved products. We have used the system at our company to plan and evolve both software products and services. We have been able to spin out many different services that seem very different, but were really variations on the basic platform we had previously built. We can provide tailored solutions for clients with less than 10% of the effort that went into the initial platform development.

We are now in the 4th edition and have published it in Spanish with a Barcelona publisher.

Companies that Marc Meyer and I consult with have found it extremely informative and useful.

Our follow up book will be an extension of this book, filled with rich examples of applications to goods, services, software and processes.

"For me, many of the insights in the book are like a cool drink of water after being in the desert too long. I'd be a real jerk if I didn't attempt in some way to share this information with others. Some of the book's message was familiar already--but there is much new ground covered as well. It is information I want to my kids to understand, to perhaps spare them the follies I was a part of while trying to cross the abyss from childhood to adulthood. It is information I'd like my friends and family to come to understand - ideas that this whole civilization ought to have and embrace." (Al Carmichael)

I highly recommend this book. It is a very clear communication of universal Truths. I only discovered Darryl's work this week, but after finishing this book tonight I'm back online to purchase ALL his books. Some of the concepts are very challenging. However, they are presented in the form of dynamic exchange between the audience and speaker and enjoyable to read. Mary and David (whom I don't know), I have your old copy, with the underlines. Thanks to Steve who will see another positive review manifest from his kindness. The synchronicity is amusing to me. I will now pass the book on to another, like a torch. -Tracy

"Quest For Truth " is filled with many enlightening prespectives that I believed in for years as a medical Professional. This book allows you to see new ways of exploring personal growth and it offers many ideas of profound inspiration. It urges us to trust ourselves, each other and our creativity. There's a lot of good humor in this book...anytime you are doing what you love to do and are laughing, it gives you more confidence."Quest For Truth" has tools for everyone to "build and repair" their lives and to know that what you believe--makes a big difference in your life. In my work I am often helping people who are facing end-of -life issues. I*highly* recommend Chapter 4 "Death,Dying & Religion"to both patients and health care professionals. An extraordinary book that helped me change my life for the better . These ideas can work for you as well. Elaine Glazer, R.N.

It can actually be used as a workbook, where one can read about a particular topic and reflect upon it, or participate in a guided meditation. It is also very useful as pick-up reading: one can open the book at random and nearly always find relevant insights or advice. (Mary & David Dohrman)

Hilarious Resume Guide for a New College Grad

Review Date: 2007-06-03
As a recent college graduate looking to start my career, I found this book to be an absolutely hilarious guide on how NOT to write my first resume. My favorite section was "Politics, Religion, and Other Inappropriate Subjects." The statements some of these people wrote in their resumes were so crazy I almost couldn't believe that they were real! I especially liked the one where the applicant signed their cover letter as "lovely human being."
This is definitely a must read for anyone who's ever written a resume or, like me, needs to write one in the very near future!! Although many of the excerpts are absurd, each chapter starts out with a helpful hint, making the book just as useful as it is entertaining. I would recommend this title to absolutely anyone.

This is not your typical resume book, and these are definitely not your typical resumes! Working in a Career Development office, I see my fair share of resume books, and this one really stands apart from the rest. While the more serious-minded job-seeker might opt for something a little more formal, those with a relaxed attitude and sense of humor are sure to appreciate the book's fun but functional "How Not To" approach to resume-writing.

Without all the rigid instruction of most resume books, Resumes From Hell gives readers something fun and new - a chance to learn from the mistakes of others. Whether it's sending important email messages with an online identity like [...] or telling employers you created "today's fanny pack industry," the mistakes and mishaps in this book boldly remind job-seekers to pay attention to details and to think more like hiring managers.

Hysterically funny--and useful, too

Review Date: 2004-12-08
Resumes from Hell is one of those rare examples of a book that is both entertaining and useful. Every single page contains a laugh-out-loud example of what NOT to do if you are a job-seeker. From the candidate who left a voice-mail describing his delicious sandwhich, to the one who listed his mother as a reference, the examples in this book are almost too comical to be believed--and yet each and every one is true.

All of the excerpts have been sorted into clearly defined sections, where off-the-wall examples are used to illustrate genuinely helpful resume pointers. Readers can flip through and entertain themselves by reading pages at random, or take a more utilitarian approach going chapter by chapter to get guidance on questions like whether or not to list hobbies on a resume.

I recommend readers turn immediately to the index and start from there. In it, the editors have brilliantly culled some of the most unlikely single words and phrases from their resume files--like "completely useless," and "orgasm," (not used in the same sentence, it's worth noting)--and compiled them into one hysterical list.

I received Resumes from Hell as a gift, and it is one of the funniest books I've read in a long time. I highly recommend it.

Frustrated about today's shrinking job market? Having trouble finding a job that even requires submitting a resume (and doesn't require sporting a colorful uniform)? Finding a good job requires education, experience, and a really good resume that stands out above the competition... That is, unless you're up against those who wrote the "Resumes from Hell" featured in this book of the same name, in which the authors expose hundreds of the most awkward, over-the-top, and downright hilarious resumes ever written. Reading them will help you improve your own resume, and it will give you hope. Just don't do what these people did! Whether they listed too many hobbies, made frightening political or religious statements, or simply gave "too much information," these writers bare their souls in hopes of landing a job. With previous experience such as "perishable manager" and "fanny pack designer," or qualifications like "specializing in the impossible," "Have Passport & Don't Use Tobacco or Firearms," and "Enjoy Dim Sum, Chai and other good things in life," you really wish you could sit in on their job interviews. My favorite chapter is "Graphics from Hell," featuring undecipherable charts, cheesy icons and clip art that some misguided souls used to spruce up their resumes. As professional job recruiters, the authors have seen it all, and their comments and examples prove unequivocally that poetry, spirituality, ranting, bragging, and sloganeering have no place in your resume. This book proves that what you DON'T say is often as important as what you do say.

Although very popular in its day; Longfellow's "Song of Hiawatha" was later viewed to be superficial and saccharine. Where as Walt Whitman may have spoken with more of an organic American voice, Longfellow drew upon English Romantic models and looked to Norse and especially the Finnish epic or "edda" "Kalevala" for inspiration.

Not with standing; Longfellow's saga is pure New England Renaissance; touching upon values and aesthetics characteristic of Longfellow's circle: Oliver Wendell Holmes, Emerson and Thoreau.

The nature-painting of the "Song of Hiawatha" is outstanding; the poetry is full of quotables; and the over-arching message is profound.

All the women of the Bible, from deities to personifications of symbols, are represented in a fine dictionary reference.

Women in Scripture is just the resource I have been waiting for; in one volume I can find brief, but thorough, well written articles on all the women of the Bible, which incorporate the insights of the best of contemporary critical biblical scholarship. And don't miss the introductory articles. They are worth the price of this book by themselves. This book is a must for all pastors, serious Bible students, and all laypersons interested in learning about the women of the Bible as they are presented in the Bible, not as they have been culturally presented. I highly recommend it!

This is not as specialized a reference work as you would suspect from the title. The six introductory articles are among the best I have read on the development of the canon, hermeneutics, and the status of biblical scholarship. These run a mere ten or sixteen columns each, yet feel comprehensive. They reveal the editors' infatutuation with statistical information (numbers of male named in the Bible vs. the number of females; the number of named women vs. the number of unnamed women; names that recur most frequently, etc.), and their interest in exploring what these statistics hint at. Clearly the editors and authors enjoyed creating this landmark publication. While the authors are not timid scholars, they seem to know when they have reached a dead end or hit an informational barrier. When the Bible is silent on an issue, they are comfortable acknowledging it.

Also worth praising is the organization of the book. Part I consists of all the women named in the Bible (including the Deuterocanonical/Apocryphal books) in alphabetical order; Part II lists all the unnamed women (or groups of women, such as, "Daughters of Lot" and "Women at Vashti's Banquet") in Bible book order (following the NRSV sequencing) by their earliest significant Scripture reference; Part III, perhaps the most fascinating section, is a compilation of female deities and personifications (such as, "Asherah/Asherim," "Female Images of God in the Hebrew Bible," "Woman Wisdom," and "No 'Male and Female' in Christ Jesus"). While great care has been made in providing cross-referencing, there is no general index to the volume. Readers will need to be very intuitive (and perhaps keep a concordance handy) if they want to find entries in Part II (the largest section of the book) by any method other than Bible book order. The volume is completed by an annotated listing of "Additional Ancient Sources," which directs the reader to some important texts that never made it successfully through the maze known as canonization, but which are sure to provide some interesting information on the status and role of women at different points in the ancient world.

A wonderful reference book!

I regularly conduct Bible workshops on the topic of Women Prophets and frequently recommend this dictionary to my audiences. This book is easy to use and is an update of the classic by Edith Deen.
