Charming Birtish farm story for kids

Emily the Goat is my favourite of the easy-to-read Blackberry Farm series by Jane Pilgrim. Featuring anthropomorphized animals living in communal amity with human farmers, it tells the heart-winning story of a dedicated milk goat giving her best to provide extra milk for a little lamb. The emphasis is on cooperation, social responsibility, and generosity, with delightful illustrations of the farm animals all helping by bringing Emily extra treats to increase her milk production. Very British in its senisibilities, it is a hit with young readers who are connected to life processes -- those in 4H families or who live in rural areas. This story has certainly stood the test of time, and still has a great message for modern kids.

A 1993 Masterpiece Needs A Review?!

All right. I accept it. There is certainly something terribly wrong with me. First, I am of the opinion that the late, great May Sarton will stand as one of the most important authors of the journal genre in the 20th century. Second, her publisher W.W. Norton & Co. has a stunning record of supporting some of the grandest and most spectacular works of literature and poetry world-wide. Third, here we are in 2006, and May wrote this truly one-of-her-best journals in 1993 and the book is in need of a review. Well, that's okay. Thank you Amazon.com for giving me this opportunity and I highly recommend ALL of May Sarton's journals at the very least. Then, I would recommend ALL of her novels as well. She is very much missed by so many....

A lot research went into this book. Great resource for someone doing research on women's baseball. This book gives many leads to more research.As someone who is interested in the history I find this a good read and it should be helpful as I do some research on the history of wm bb in Michigan. We need to record our history now so people will know we played.

Wonderful reminiscence!

I worked for the Independent Electoral Commission as a Senior Mediator in the Eastern Cape, and remember these events. Reading through this book ten years on, it is a wonderful reminder of those heady days, and very accurate in its capturing of the mood of the time. The major players are all there, and wonderfully evocative pictures of places with names like Committee's Drift, dustbowls in the middle of nowhere, polling stations flapping in the wind.

A remarkable book testament to a remarkable period in South Africa's history.

A Fundamental Resource for Development and Colonization of Outer Space
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-19
This two volume set is the published proceedings of the conference named in the book's title. Over 200 papers were presented in 18 different technical areas. The conference was multidisciplinary with many international participants; despite the title, you can find papers dealing with lunar science, space law, and other topics. The major technical areas of the papers, organized into sections of the book are:
1) Planetary surface structures on the Moon and Mars;
2) Space resources and in-situ materials utilization;
3) Space energy;
4) Space mining and excavation;
5) Space automation and robotics;
6) Life support systems;
7) Lunar-based astronomy, and;
8) Space Education

The importance of the book lies in its value as a "snapshot" of what a broad segment of the space community was thinking about in 1972. The book is excellent for providing us with an overview of important topics and challenges that must be considered for future space development. Indeed, virtually all of the topics continue to garner significant attention and work across the space community, e.g., within NASA, other government space agencies, academia and industry. It is excellent for providing context for practical discussion of space colonization. I frequently refer to it in my own work at NASA

This fine history of May 1968 in Paris was written by Guy Debord, Raoul Vaneigem, Rene Riesel and Mustapha Khayati in Brussels, immediately after the failure of the rebellion. These situationists published it under the name of their comrade as a joke. Let's do our own now.

Erskine May: Parliamentary Practice

THE reference book on how the British Parliament works
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 1999-06-28
If you need to know how Parliament works, this is the book for you. It's regarded as the "Bible" by British MPs, who have been known to consult it, and quote from it, during debates in the House of Commons. It is written by Sir Clifford Boulton, a former Clerk of the House and a man of vast experience in the way things work.

It is not a book for casual reading, but as a reference work it is unsurpassed. The text is authoritative, to the extent that it is used to settle arguments, and many Parliaments around the world, whose proceedings are based on the British pattern, use Erskine May as their own guide.

I recommend it to students of Parliamentary debate everywhere.
