This book, though short, has an truly inspiring message. It brings the reader in close to the anxiety and emotional roller coaster that besets those who seek their roots. Regardless of where you find yourself in relationship to the subject, searching, supporting, contemplating, or recovering, you can easily identify with the author and those whose lives were touched by her endeavor.

This is the true story of a woman on a journey to find her birth parents, but in doing so, she discovers much more than she had ever imagined. The author, Kay Cervetti, allows the reader in on a very uplifting, though at times, heart-wrenching chapter of her life. Included in the book are envelopes containing copies of the real letters that were an integral part of Kay's quest. These letters draw the reader in fully, making them feel even more acutely the intimacy of this account. This is a moving, amazing book you won't want to put down!

Trade Law and Global Governance

Review Date: 2002-12-24
Steve Charnovitz produces penetrating articles about international trade and global governance at a rate that is difficult for even the most dedicated scholars and analysts to keep pace with. Fortunately, he has put many of his collected works of recent years together into this valuable volume so that they are easily accessible both to newcomers to his work and to long-time readers. Although Mr. Charnovitz is an ardent defender of the benefits of free trade, he is also deeply concerned with issues of environmental and labor protections. As an analyst, he has been unusually successful in bridging worlds that often do not speak or listen one another. He also brings to his writing a deep grounding in history, which reminds readers that many of the issues we think of as unique to this era of globalization are actually trends and phenomena that have been on the minds of policy makers and scholars for many decades. I strongly recommend this book to anyone trying to understand how we can imbed today's increasingly global economy with a deeper and stronger commitment to environmental and social values.

Over many years Steve Charnovitz has written a dizzying array of articles and essays on international trade law, in particular its relationship to other areas of policy such as environmental protection. This book brings together many of these works and provides an excellent overview of a range of cutting-edge topics in trade law and policy. International trade law is no longer the province of lawyers: it is an issue that, from Seattle to Geneva, increasingly inspires popular passion and protest. As usual, Charnovitz brings great insight and comprehensive knowledge to many of the most burning and interesting issues in this field.

The Fruitlands commune was a fascinating experiment that took place in beautiful Harvard, Mass. when Louisa was a child. "Transcendental Wild Oats" is her brief and affectionate send-up of the ridiculous ideals and characters she remembers from Fruitlands, among them her father. "Fruitlands Diary," her actual diary from her childhood, offers great insight into daily life from this time period, with affectionate comments here and there added when she was an older woman.

When Louisa May Alcott was a little girl, her father moved the family to live in an experimental commune in the orchard town of Harvard, Massachusetts. The idea was that inhabitants would live on unleavened bread and apples, abstain from sex, and expound on the universe. The experiment lasted only from July to December, when it predictably fell apart. In adulthood, Louisa trained a comic eye on the whole experience, and wrote this brief, funny parody of it, with only names changed to protect the innocent. Also included here are girlhood diaries kept by Louisa during this experience, which offer insight into what life was like at such a place in those days. These diaries are made doubly amusing by a few marginal notes Louisa added to them later in life. For anyone interested in Alcott family history, or in the crazy days of the transcendentalists (the 19th century's version of the sixties), this short work is a must read.

Twelve small bookmarks are presented here with gorgeous, saucy little flower fairies posing on them. The fairies themselves are similar to the ones in Darcy May's "Flower Fairies Stickers" book. Whether you intend to use them as bookmarks or just to look at, they're beautiful, and a great gift for friends. The fairies depicted here are an exquisite Japanese Honeysuckle Fairy, an elegant Rose Fairy, a mischevious Snowdrop Fairy, a sweet-faced Bluebell Fairy, a charming Daisy Fairy, a very young Buttercup Fairy, two sleeping infant Tulip Fairies, a clever Jack in the Pulpit Fairy, a lithe Cornflower Fairy, a tomboyish Aster Fairy, a watchful Gladiolus Fairy, and a straw-haired Ivy Fairy. They're all perfect, but that Honeysuckle Fairy and the Rose Fairy are beyond glamorous. Highly recommended!

There are three competing daytime talk shows broadcasting from New York. Paula Live, Tell Tonya, and Simon Says all want to capture the viewing audience. Single mother May Morrison loves her job as a producer of Paula Live even though she seems to never have enough time in the day to do everything she needs to accomplish. May's stress level leaps when one of the producers of Simon Says dies by jumping out of a window.

Detective Paradisoe fingers May as the perpetrator for no apparent reason. As other producers die, his belief solidifies. His partner Detective Paul O'Donnell cannot accept that a harried mother with babysitting problems is guilty of any crime. He feels that someone is trying to frame May and, if that fails, makes her the next victim.

Take a dose of Abbot and Costello or Laurel and Hardy and place it in a nineties murder mystery to obtain the feel of UP NEXT. This delightful serio-comic tale will have readers laughing at the antics of the TV producers. May is a nineties heroine, overworked and overstressed, but keeps on ticking. This first May Morrison amateur detective story brings a new talent, Nancy Star, to the forefront of the sub-genre, a place she is bound to stay for quite awhile.

Good marriages make healthy children
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2001-08-25
It may not come as a shock to most parents that the lessons our children learn in childhood are carried with them throughout their lives, but what this book makes clear is how our own marriages form a blueprint from which all our children's future relationships will be built. Siegel creates a compelling narrative using lots of case histories and anecdotes, which makes this an easy read. She helps us identify not only what we are doing wrong in our marriage, but what we're doing right, which makes our foibles a lot easier to acknowledge. She also helps us to explore how deeply our own parents' marriage affected us. A very important book with a very important goal--"the opportunity to create a positive legacy of love for our children."

This book is excellent and really focuses on average families. What kids grown up living in their households is really a reflection on what their future goals will be as molded by their parents. It is a wonderful book to read if you are looking for a practical, easy to understand book on what you can do to make your marriage more wholesome and the reflection of that will set the pace for your children in the future and what choices they make for themselves. I highly recommend it.

Who would have thought that there could be so many ways in which your car repair person could rip you off? If you're like me, and know absolutely nothing about cars, this is a must read. It actually used terms that i could understand.I recently became suspicious after my mechanic told me that I needed new brakes for the 3rd time in 1 year. This precious gem made me realize that i was being taken for a ride. I wish that my mechanic was as considerate of me as Mitchell Zelman is of his clients. THANK YOU!

I've had Parkinson's for a few years now, and, at age 51, have the ignoble distinction of being among those deemed "early onset." This book was among the first I bought when I was diagnosed, and stayed in the pile of books doctors and medical associations were gracious and generous enough to give me. Once I got to it, however, I quickly realized it is among the best. Descriptions, definitions, explanations... All are presented in clear, straightforward, easy-to-understand language, all are thorough without getting long-winded, and all are compassionate without being sappy or unrealistically "everything will be great." I appreciate the even-handedness of both her allopathic and holistic treatment descriptions, not offering much in the way of criticism nor over-the-top praise, just presenting the many options available. In glancing through the table of contents as i write this, to refresh my memory, i find it hard to really encapsulate this book, it is so packed with useful information. Like, how to find a great doctor. Suffice it to say that, from my experience and my belief in balancing both western and alternative medicine, this book is invaluable, for patient, friends, and family.

Despite my stack of books on parkinson's,I find myself almost always refering to this book for most of my questions. And answers are usually there in a nondepressing style. What's more the book goes into alternative methods of treatment as well as the conventional, Many things your doctor won't take the time to tell you.

Suffering and Perplexed?
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-08-14
I've read this book through twice already and every time have been amazed at the wise and discerning way the very difficult book of Job has been explained by its young author. The book has helped to strengthen and restore my faith in the Lord and made me look beyond my circumstances. This book will make your realize, as it did me, that the all important question when besieged with suffering on all sides is to ask Who and not Why.

The author's style is also very riveting and humorous in many places. I loved the nick-names he gives to Job's "so called" friends - Eliphaz the Exterminator, Bildad the Brutal and Zophar the Zealot. You'll find yourself chuckling despite your grief or through your tears. From this book you will also learn what not to say to the suffering and how you can be a means of encouragement instead of a means of further despair. This is a book I would love to present to every suffering Christian of whatever age. And keep it handy at all times on your shelf for your own private profit. You will find yourself reaching out to it again and again.

I appreciated the insight that the author brought to Job's life. I am a seminary student and am preaching a Narrative sermon on Job 1 and 2. This book provided me with a wealth of insightful material, illustrations and wonderful exegetical points in clear, simple language. Thank you for your faithfulness to the text and leading by the Holy Spirit!
