Pray Together Now offers an excellent guide to finding a prayer group or prayer resourse. There is something for everyone here. As a Born Again Christian, I especially appreciate the vast Christian resouces made available. People of all faiths will appreciate the research in their area. The author has lovingly embraced the very core of what prayer is about; touching the heart of God.

We are currently in the midst of a revival of interest in prayer and healing. This interest includes healing for psychological, physical and emotional problems. There are many fine books in the field but no one has combined the theoretical with the practical like Cay Randall-May. Rev. May who has been helped innumerable times by prayer, outlines the history of prayer, the importance of group prayer and how to find and/or start a prayer group. She has the most exhausitve list of already existing prayer organizations as well as detailed instructions to forming your own prayer group. This book is an invaluable resource to anyone who might ever need help from the higher power. With the increasing evidence on the efficacy of prayer, this includes most thinking people. Buy it! Full of real world advice and thoughtful suggestions, the book uses examples based on personal experience as well as sound research to educate others about the complex subject of retirement planning. I especially appreciated the well thought out worksheets covering all aspects of this life event.
It's refreshing to find a road map written by someone who has been there before, and is not afraid to admit there may have been other routes he could have taken. An excellent book to read and re-read.

Unlike so many other Retirement "advisories" this author relates his real experiences with real world scenarios rather than the "high road" of other financial authors. He clearly describes his/the situation, why/how he made his choices and the result. Sometimes good and sometimes he explains how he could have made a better choice using hindsight as his guide. For someone like me, just entering retirement, his aptly described experiences will allow me to make better decisions and have confidence that my decisions are the best option for me. Mr. Bridges clearly defines the un-controlables (and there are many) but also presents options/solutions to position oneself for the best result.

Quick note: this story is NOT set in the North American Confederacy, but in yet another alternate world.

A fun series (I read it on-line) which tells of an Earth were Davy Crockett lived and Santa Ann didn't. And which Texas never joined the United Stated, but became a free proto-libertarian republic.

Many real people are used as the basis for several characters, as the agents of several foreign governments (US, Canada, Third and a half Reich, Vatican-in-exile, Rep of California, Franco-Mexican Empire, etc) invade Texas to find out what crashed there. Part of the fun is figurating out who is who in this story.

Hope at some point they publish a full color reprint, instead of gray scale, prehaps with added info on who is who...

Roswell Texas is a spin off from L. Neil Smith's Probability Broach series.
It combines both historical (and hysterical) figures and fictional characters to create a story that is amusing, thought provoking and just great fun. If you share Mr. Smith's political ideals you will love this book. If you don't, the adventure, humor, and just plain fun of this book will still make it worth your time.
By me this book's only fault is that it is a graphic novel instead of a text novel. Perhaps if enough of us buy this book it will convince some publisher to release a text version.
You will notice I emphasize the word fun in describing this book. It is in fact more than thirteen dollars worth of enjoyment. Any serious thought this book may provoke is value added to the fun offered. A perfect summer book (and winter, spring, fall book.)

This book is a wonderful story and the illustrations were absolutely beautiful! The artist really captured the feeling of the story. I highly for young and old!

Most people only know the well-loved story of Rudolph either through the Johnny Marks song or the popular 1964 TV special. However, not many people know that Rudolph was created by a Montgomery Wards employee named Robert May, who also wrote two sequels to the original story. Surprisingly, this sequel, Rudolph Shines Again, was the only other Rudolph story published during his lifetime, apart from the posthumous sequel, Rudolph's Second Christmas. But this episode in the Rudolph story goes the furthest in allowing us to see Rudolph examine his character thoroughly and discover who he really is as a reindeer.

This Rudolph story tugs at the heartstrings more than the previous two books at the beginning, because of how Rudolph feels for his sufferings amongst his reindeer companions who are so fed up with how Santa Claus always finds favour with him and not with them. Luckily, this heart-tugging does not go overboard because we learn that even though Rudolph loses his nose, he remembers that he has forgotten himself in thinking selfishly about it. It is there that we see a bit more character development in him and the story picks up its momentum of its own. Rudolph's willingness to find the two lost rabbits shows the heart he has for others, with shades of his adventures in the Second Christmas episode, and his selfless spirit of charity, and he still retains his inimitable character even when he realises he has regained his nose and does not need to elate over it with his emotions. The story is written with the same rhyming couplets that made the original Rudolph story so fresh, with many ingenous rhyming twists and felicitous touches in the story-telling, and with the resolution this finds at the end of all the three stories, this makes the perfect conclusion to the three Rudolph stories of Robert L. May.

In conclusion, I feel prepared to say that this Rudolph story is as good as the other two, but does more in character development by allowing us readers to follow how Rudolph examines his real character while allowing his heart to glow as brightly as before. My one wish now is that it would be perfect and great if the three Robert May Rudolph stories were published in one book as a continuous Rudolph saga, and that reading the three individual episodes in this story will allow everyone to guide their sleighs to greater self-worth and self-esteem in a soul-stirring story.

This story, Rudolph's Second Christmas, proves every bit as enjoyable as the other two Rudolph stories, and shows Rudolph in a more active and charitable position.

I know that this story alternates between prose and verse, but this can't be helped since this Rudolph episode was a posthumous publication after Robert May's death. Nevertheless, it allows Rudolph's heart of gold to shine through every moment of this enchanting episode in his 3-part saga. Rudolph's desire to make this Christmas better can be seen in the sympathy he showed towards the complaint letter he found among the letters that Santa Claus received, and also in his determination and faith in helping the children's circus improve in the quality of its performances. We also get to show Rudolph's inspirational example in allowing the misfit animals to improve the circus, because here, although we know that Rudolph set a positive example by celebrating difference, he was able to help other animals celebrate being different, until he is inspired to continue to serve Santa Claus at Christmas.

Nevertheless, this unfamiliar and not-so-well-known Rudolph sequel, which is a different breath of fresh air from the TV specials, is deserving of a permanent place in any library of any Christmas lover and sensitive human being who can appreciate inspirational fables like this. I highly recommend this as well as the other two Rudolph stories in this 3-part saga, because Rudolph's quest to discover what makes him tick is a heartwarming Christmas parable that can serve every season.

"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer had a very shiny nose, and if you ever saw it . . . " Now that I have you in the mood for this book, let me ask you a question. Did you know who wrote the original story of Rudolph? Well, it was Robert L. May. Did you also know that Mr. May had written a sequel? Have you read the sequel? If not, you should and this is it.

Mr. May died in 1976. In 1991, his daughter was working in the family attic and found several drafts of a sequel written in 1947. These were edited into this story and published in 1992. New illustrations were developed by Michael Emberley to bring the story humorously up-to-date.

Researchers constantly find that reading to children is valuable in a variety of ways, not least of which are instilling a love of reading and improved reading skills. With better parent-child bonding from reading, your child will also be more emotionally secure and able to relate better to others. Intellectual performance will expand as well. Spending time together watching television fails as a substitute.

To help other parents apply this advice, as a parent of four I consulted an expert, our youngest child, and asked her to share with me her favorite books that were read to her as a young child. Rudolph's Second Christmas was one of her picks.

This book is the story of what happened in the year following Rudolph's famous trip with Santa Claus on that "foggy Christmas Eve." When Santa and Rudolph get back from some time off, they start reading thank you letters from children. Unfortunately, they find one complaint letter. They had missed two children with a circus who had been good. Rudolph volunteers to find out how they can avoid missing the children next Christmas. Along the way, he comes up with wonderful solutions that make the whole year better . . . as well as next Christmas.

The book's story line builds nicely around the problems that the children and some unusual animals perceive they have by being different. Rudolph shows them how differences become advantages when brought to bear in the right time and in the right place. So the original story's theme of overcoming being shunned because of being different using Rudolph as the example is much more thoroughly explored in this book. I like the idea of Rudolph taking that lesson and teaching it to others. In many ways, that makes this book more intersting and valuable than the original, well-beloved story.

Children are very aware of and critical about differences in other people and in themselves versus "the norm." This story gives you a nice chance to counterbalance that false conclusion that only sameness should be celebrated. In this way you can encourage your child to be both a keen observer of differences and an innovative thinker about how to turn them to advantage.

There is a television commercial out now that does this well, for example. Two groups of children are being formed into teams by having captains choose players. The assumption is that this will be a sports contest. One side is glad to get a large child, while another side is discouraged about getting a smaller one. Then the contest turns out to be a debate, and the team with the smaller child is ecstatic. That commercial is a good one to discuss in the context of this story.

After you have finished enjoying the story with your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, or godchild, I suggest that the two of you have a discussion about what the child perceives of his or her differences as being disadvantages. Then think together about how those could be advantages instead. This will open up a whole new world of possibility for the child. You will be like Rudolph in dispelling the fog so that Christmas can come again this year.

By the way, it's great fun to read this book while playing a recording of the Rudolph song in the background at the same time.

This novel will take your breath away. It is horrendous that not enough information has been written about others that sufferd through the scourge of Nazism. And there's scant amount written about Blacks in Nazi Germany. The Rhineland Bastards (children of mixed race in pre-war Germany) were the first victims of the Nazi murder machine. But little is known or has been written about them. Their skin color placed them in a most precarious position: impossible to hide and no amount of bleaching the hair would change that. But Mr. Masaquoi's book is enthralling and exquisitely rendered. One particular passage made me cringe with excitement: being a child and wanting to be like his peers, this young boy of mixed race wanted to join the Nazi Youth like his other friends were doing, knowing little of the atrocious policies of the Third Reich. Well, his mother, fearing she couldn't just tell him NO decided that a better lesson would be to take him to the local Nazi Youth headquarters and attempt to sign him up for the organization....well, you'll have to buy this book to find out what happened. In all, this is a tremendous work and one that has not received, unfortunately, as much attention as many other books on personal accounts of the Holocaust.

The publication of Showing Our Colors: Afro-German Women Speak Out was groundbreaking not only because it examined the Afro-German experience, one that had been highly ignored or denied, but also because it provided a forum for Afro-German women to discuss issues that affected them. This was difficult before the publication of this book because of the way that German historians had examined what they called "the problem" of the "occupation babies," and because Afro-Germans had generally been raised isolated from other Afro-Germans. This book discusses the concept of German identity and why Afro-Germans have been a marginalized group because of the concept of Germany as a homogenous white nation.

This book confronts the ignorance concerning Afro-Germans in Germany and exposes the reader to instance after instance of subtle racism including and ways in which different expressions concerning race, color, and mixedness are used derogatorily and what connotations they have. It explains why racism is often an accepted part of the social structure and exposes the fallacies that are used to justify ignorance and violent behavior. The personal experiences give an intimate perspective to a history that can otherwise be viewed objectively. By attempting to educate the public with this book, the contributors create a context for themselves in German history and modern German culture. The existence of Afro-Germans is no longer a mystery, nor denied; instead it is claimed by them.

When a society is ignorant of its own history it can not begin to remedy the problems within. Because it provides a community for people formerly isolated, because it examines a history not previously discussed, because it educates a public in the hopes that some change will come about: for those reasons is Showing Our Colors a groundbreaking book.

Most of you who will buy this book, will probably do so because it is required in a SOC101 class. If you have to buy this book, be happy, because this is an excellent book that covers a broad spectrum of Sociology. If you are wanting to enrich your knowledge of Sociology, then look no further. This is an excellent supplement for any other text.

This text is very informative in an easy to read and digest manner. The wording is extremely user friendly with interesting facts on sociological issues around the world. The book is filled with moving photographs of the plights of people around our country and the world. All in all, this is an enhanced edition that is made to surround the topics of Sociology in a manner that is comprehendable and fun. You will be happy that you bought it.

This book is worth reading. If you have any interest in fellow human beings, their spirit, their fears, their emotion, their love, then you will learn something from this book. It is a surprisingly engaging book that you won't put down until you have read it cover to cover. The love of a mother and the persistence she shows blossoms into a full-fledged volunteer organization of many thousands of caring people. Soldiers' Angels isn't about war, it is about people, human to human, caring...

Buy this book! Learn about the young kids that are putting their lives on the line and regardless of whether you are for or against the war learn something from this book. You will be inspired. You will smile and maybe even chuckle to yourself. You will finish this book fast and you will thirst for more details, reflections and information. Everything can always be done better, but done is better than perfect and not done. Jeff Bader got it done and promises to relay even more in a future book. One ripple can make a wave in a large ocean.

If ever there was a reminder that we all have it in us to do great things, this book relating the founding of the Soldiers Angels organization by Patti Patton-Bader is a perfect one.

The mother of a soldier had an idea - to provide support and caring for every deployed soldier - and from that idea the Soldiers Angels organization was born. This book is written with love and tremendous insight by Jeff Bader, Patti's husband, and the author does a wonderful job of conveying the difference that Soldiers Angels has made in the life of so many. He also paints a portrait of his wife that will remain in my heart forever.

Have a box of tissues handy when you read this - it really is very moving.
