This book is powerful and compelling! The theme may sound familiar to SF/Fantasy readers... but don't be fooled. I've never read such a fascinating story from such a mind-blowing perspective! For those of you who care about authors: it has the verve of Dickens and Twain, the thematic power of Heinlein or Herbert, as profound, sometimes as [the inevitable comparison to] Tolkien, but much more fun. (Even more fun than Eddings or Dumas!)
For those of you who don't give a tiddly-wink about authors, but just want to read a great story that will make you laugh and cry with the heroines and yell out loud at the villians... read it yourself! I can't wait until the next one from this author!

This book is a fantastic book for kids. It Makes the complicated science of genetic engineering seem as clear as possible while giving examples of foods that would capture a teen's attention (such as potatoes that are scientifically engineered to absorb less oil when made into french fries.

In the book, Omlund has woven a story about the famous 10th mountain division activities during ww II and a follow-up story during the years following the war. It is very well-written. Each story has its own hero and love story. It should appeal to outdoor lovers of all ages, but most especially to skiers and those who lived through the 40s and 50s.

If you have had anything to do with Maries County, MO in you family tree, then this book should help you out. It tells how Maries County was formed and how many towns came to be. It tells of many different families which settled Maries County. It also has several chapters on certain families which help settle the county. This is a must have if doing research. They still do print a copies of the book in spiral binder for $20.00 but nothing like having the real thing.

Marshall Smith's tips and techniques far surpass anything else available in print today. Even Harvey Penick's and David Ledbetter's offerings pale in comparison. I shaved 16 strokes off my handicap using this book as my guide.

Hometown Girl covers tons of addresses and places in Los Angeles that are connected to Marilyn Monroe. For someone who loves Marilyn Monroe and Los Angeles, this is a perfect book. There are pictures of the places as they were back when Marilyn was there, and also how they look now, as well as other related pictures. The book also contains drawn maps of several areas of L.A.
It's interesting to follow Marilyn's footsteps in her hometown, the town she was born in, the town she created her career in, the town she left only to return later, and of course, the town she died in.
The information in this book is reliable, and the book is clearly a work of love. I highly recommend this book to any Marilyn Monroe fan.

Janet Marshall is a very impressive author. I felt that her integration of expository information into the story line was a wonderful way to share knowledge. This would be a perfect picture book to demonstrate expository integration in writing. The author has also used word choice and vocabulary in a way that should inspire children to extend their creativity to include their knowledge and experiences with the facts they are learning in their educational level. As to myself, it inspired me to plant more and research more of the varieties that are shared in this book.
