The title says it all - if you take this journey of self-discovery with Jacqueline Marshall, you will become not only a woman of wholeness, but a woman who knows who she is and where she is going. Many of us have experienced things that have left us feeling broken: This book/study shows you how those broken places can be mended, step-by-step. The CDs are phenomenal! Jacqueline sounds like she is right there with you as you take each step, guiding you through the exercises with her gentle, soothing voice. Wholeness is a process and at the end of this book, you will be on the path and be ready to walk in it in a practical way.

A very unique book.

This is one of the most unique books in the medical text market I have ever read. This book is more than a QUICK primer on evidence based medicine, it is also a fun novel about a murder and you are the sleuth who has to figure out "who-dun-it". The only problem with the book, and it is really very minor, is that the CME credit that you can get by completing the paperwork at the end are for canadian MD's only. It would be nice to be able to receive US CME creedit. This should not turn anyone away from the book however. It is well written and easy to understand with an appendix and glossary explaining the statistics and math used in evidence based medicine along with the terminology too. So if you want a fun book that will introduce you to application of evidence based medicine to your practice then this book is for you. Think of it as a bitter pill that is very nicely sugar coated that all practicing physicians should swallow. I would also highly recommed this book to any first or second year medical statistics course instructors and students.

This has to be the best material I have ever seen for the development of a repertoire for the guitarist. The transcriptions are professional quality and are accompained with a CD of all the songs being played. The sections are played at full speed at a slower tempo. You don't have to doubt if you are playing something correctly!! This book is a guitarist dream. Hal Leornard has gotten the formula correct for teaching songs.

Timeless, well written, spiritual,

I believe Catherine Marshall is one of the best writers of the century as Ifeel she describes God as a friend--is honest about her doubts, spirituality--timeless in descriptions, makes readers want to know about how God works in lives without being preachy or holier than thou. Wonderful reading for those of us who have lost spouses. We need more books on younger widow raising children alone. Christy, first written 30 years ago is so timeless, it thrives today with at least l2 videos, l6 childrens adapted books. Catherine is talented in describing how God works in the lives of people in her books such as the young man with no money whom people helped through college. How her and her mother prayed for money to go to Agnes Scott college. Descriptions of how her mother, though poor cooked delicious meals--how the children played, how real God was to them and worked through their lives. Makes her husband Peter Marshalls sermons come alive and readers wishing they could have known him. All of her books have greatly enhanced my faith. thank you for including her books in your website.

Great Transcriptions. Good Recording.

I have been buying a bunch of Jazz Guitar instructional material the past few months. After a long laps I'm finally starting to play a bit every day and moving forward again. Feels great. Getting back into the game the thing that really strikes me is how much eaiser it is to find good jazz instructional material than it use to be.

That sets me up for this review. These are great transcriptions (with tab) of some of the finest solos of the daddy of electric jazz guitar. I mean if you want to learn a bunch of Charlie Christian solos then this book is the place start. (I mean learning them by ear is better but you know... some of us have jobs and stuff...)

I've been a huge fan of Christians playing in the Benny Goodman sextet for, oh fifteen or sixteen years now. I've heard these solos literally hundreds of times. So I feel somewhat qualified to say that these transcriptions are dead on. Also it's nice to have the recordings Mr. Marshall put together to have everything all in one place where you can get at it easy.

Now there is very little analysis of the solos. So if you are just starting to learn to play jazz you are going to want some other books. Mike Stinel's book "Building a Jazz Vocabulary" is the book that helped me start to put things together all those years ago. There are lots of great books out there.

But this book would be great in conjunction with something like that. Of course all the usual comments apply. Learn one of charlie's licks. Play it in every position. Every Key. Figure out what it is you like about it and expand on the ideas. And so on, and so on.

The nice thing about doing that with a players actual licks instead of say just working through "The Be-Bop Bible" or something is that Charlie's licks are going to breath more. Be real pieces of music. It's much more inspiring than just working through "The Bible". (Though, you know, we should all do that too... Mix it up...)

One more thing about starting with Charlie that I think is great. He uses a lot of really simple ideas and makes them sound amazing. Like he will play a line that if you read it from "The Bible" you might think was kind of lame. Too simple you might think. But then you hear Charlie play it in context and it's great. It's real music. Then you start to understand how jazz cats use simple things make great music. It's not all as complicated as maybe you thought. (At least not always... You know, if you start by trying to cop Coltrane's licks it's going to get pretty complicated pretty fast, but I guess my comment is predicated on the assumption that maybe that's not the place for all of us to start day one...)

Finally, and I hope Mr Marshall would agree with this; If you are using this book to learn licks please make sure and get the original recordings too. Do your self the favor. The recordings that come with the book are very good for instructional purposes but there is no substitute for hearing Christian, Young, and Goodman just tear it up. Then Mr Marshall's recording is there to help you cue up the right measures and all.

Ok, well I'm done yapping. Good luck with the jazz.

Great Read From Rock's Greatest Piano Player
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-05
All of us old-school Allman Brother fans are forever saddened by the loss of band founder and leader Duane Allman in 1971. We all remember where we were the day we learned of his death, and we couldn't imagine how the Brothers could carry on without him. Another guitarist to take Duane's place? Impossible! And yet, in a stroke of genius, it was decided that, instead of another guitar player, a young extremely talented piano player named Chuck Leavell would be brought into the band. Chuck brought a whole new sound to the band and gave them a new life and great commercial success. This guy played piano as well as Duane played guitar. I, for one, am forever grateful to Chuck for bringing me and The Allman Brothers back to life in 1973 after the twin devastating losses of Duane and Berry. His playing made Brothers And Sisters one of the most uplifting albums ever, just what we all needed at the time.
His stint with The Allman Brothers proved to be the start of a wildly successful career. Chuck went on to play piano with just about everybody and their uncle, including the Stones for the last twenty years. He's had a great life, and this book does a good job of chronicling it all. I enjoyed reading it.
