Birds AND I enjoyed this one!Review Date: 2008-07-18
Great book for birdersReview Date: 2007-02-21
Fantastic Resource for the Bird LoversReview Date: 2008-02-24
It contains a variety of very easy projects on best ways of providing seeds, making your own bird treats (like those expensive seed bells they sell in stores), creating feeding stations, planting habitats, setting up water stations, birdhouses and more. There is also a section devoted to hummingbirds and butterflies.
I really like that it isn't a bird or plant identification book. One of my pet peeves with many of my other "project" books is that they dilute their content by including bird identification charts for instance - often up to 1/3 of the book with another third devoted to pictures and descriptions of the plants. I'd rather leave that to a specialized book and let my project books be filled with (imagine this) projects! There is a small amount of this type of information in this book, but it's generally to the point and captured in simple and easy to read charts. I would suggest anyone looking for that type of material should buy appropriate field guides.
I love that the projects are pretty much entirely able to be made from recycled materials (like using the plastic tubes that tennis balls come in or metal coffee cans or plastic plant saucers for instance) and scrap wood. They are very easy and could be wonderful projects for engaging your kids with nature and getting fast results. Tips are also included for maintenance too (such as keeping feeding stations looking their best).
I also love the garden ideas - simple plans for small patches of specialized garden areas - there's one for a self-renewing bird attracting garden with a ton of seed-producing annual flowering plants for instance; a garden for producing nesting materials, another for attracting butterflies by providing food for their caterpillars, one for hummingbirds and a number of others.
Overall, if you are trying to attract birds to your yard and especially if you are looking for ideas for projects you can do with your kids to give them an appreciation for nature, I think you can't go wrong with this book.

Hands-on InspirationReview Date: 2007-12-27
It starts with a section of fast-and-easy projects for beginners to get your feet wet with the easiest of the various types of woodworking, cooking, and gardening projects you can do to attract birds.
Later chapters go into detail on each of the specialties (woodworking, cooking, gardening) so that you can either do it all or just focus on the chapters that address your talents.
The book also includes a Projects-at-a-Glance index so you can look up things to do involving Nesting, Water, Landscaping, et cetera. Highly recommended. Longer review at OrnateBirdGarden-dot-com.

This is a very special book, in my opinion. It sets out to address the myths that have been propagated because of fear and predudice surrounding the history of the white incursion into what was the territory and traditional way of life of the nomadic and deeply spiritual peoples of the plains of North America. It is a gentle reminder of the imperialsm and arrogance that still pervades in people in the mainstream western society today ,who in the main believe the spiritual life of the native peoples is inferior to that of the white traditions. The indian peoples of the plains are extremely family minded , and have a rich culture of traditional beliefs and are commited ,even in this age, to encourage their children to learn the ethical and moral way of life that encompasses the belief that all inhabitants of the earth should be treated with respect and honour.Joseph Marshall is particularly advocating respect for older people who have gained wisdom and insight purely by living life with all its challenges and also its joys.

Another theme from Holy Scripture that she emphasizes throughout the book is love, i.e., love for God and for other people. In fact, love for God will cause these other matters to fall into place appropriately. The motivation, desire, and focus will naturally flow out of a heart that loves God.

Covers all aspects of coaching leaders, including ethicsReview Date: 2000-10-12
How many consultants can make that offer?
At any rate, Goldsmith has edited (and contributed chapters) to "Coaching for Leadership" along with Laurence Lyons and Alyssa Freas. Coaching high-impact, ambitious, hard-driving executives is not quite the same process as coaching under-performing employees, so this book probably has a smaller audience than say, "Coaching for Dummies". However, executive coaching is all about moving individuals into behaviors that sustain business, and there is lots of useful information for the coaches of non-leaders. There is also a very interesting (and very short) chapter on, "Coaching from Below" by Deepak (Dick) Sethi. Most of us could probably use that information!
A "must have" for all coaches.Review Date: 2000-09-08
What do Executive Coaches Do? This Book Told Me.Review Date: 2000-11-22
Well this book tells you what these "executive coaches" do and I found it fascinating!
Comprehensive and simplisticReview Date: 2002-11-06
for the seasoned coach although I did not find much new material. It is probably better for 'new to the field' coaches who want to know a lot of information in one source. The chapters are short and easy to read. For seasoned coaches it is helpful to pick and choose. I especially liked Nancy Adler's chapter on Coaching Global Executives: Women Succeeding in a World Beyond Here. She ended with a good reason for executives to chose coaching.

The OTHER freeOS explainedReview Date: 2005-07-15
650+ pages of truth and gore. I (as a sysadmin and BSD boomer) related most to the History (Ch.1) and Startup/Shutdown (final Ch.14). Memory management and other gore escapes me. GOOD JOB!
Highly recommended for learning how a kernel works in practiceReview Date: 2005-08-14
The writing style of the authors is to the point (don't expect a novel) and clear. The troff typesetting of the book gives it a consistent style and simple, but clear diagrams (though I heard that some diagrams were hand-drawn). The book doesn't just drop the reader in a kernel subsystem. The second chapter gives a detailed explanation of the various kernel subsystems, and the relation between the subsystems. The third chapter gives a summary of what is expected from a kernel from the user level. Combined these two chapters give the reader the necessary conception of the FreeBSD kernel to start looking at individual parts of the kernel in detail. Most remaining chapters are logically ordered, in that subsystems are ordered from parts with less dependencies to parts with more dependencies (e.g. memory management and I/O are covered before filesystems).
If you are interested in UNIX programming, you should have this book on your bookshelf (as well as a CVS checkout of the FreeBSD kernel tree to read the implementation).
Very nice and complete introduction bookReview Date: 2005-09-23
I found this book to be well balanced, well written and generally providing good, accessible way to get into BSD. I have followed advise in someone's review here and coupled this book with Linux and UNIX for a beginner training suite, 4DVDs + 2CDs includes 4 Unix Academy Certifications ed.2008. To my great surprise I have to say they really have made an outstanding training outfit!
If you really ready for a training and do not expect that UNIX will come to you overnight it is worthy book and deserves your attention.

An indispensable look at the frontier armyReview Date: 2004-02-06
The main value of this book lies in the fact that it provides an outstanding overview of military operations as a whole (as opposed to books that treat just one battle or campaign). The work fills in many holes that will undoubtedly exist for anyone who has studied a part of the Indian Wars, and who would like to have a more general overview available to them. Anyone who has studied the Little Bighorn, for example, will find in this book a wealth of information that will explain in great detail many of the factors that led up to that action and also many of its ramifications. This book is essential to any study of Western history, especially military history.

TremendousReview Date: 2008-01-01
Recounting the final, massive push by the Regular Army to subdue the American Indians, this volume covers the 25 years after the Civil War when control of the Plaines was wrested from the Indians, from the first skirmishes with the Sioux over the Bozeman Trail to the final defeat and subjugation in 1880.
Proud of the Unites States Army and is accomplishments while simultaneously sympathetic toward the Indians, Utley traces the campaign directed by Major General William Tecumseh Sherman. The result is a very evenhanded account resting comfortably between the "the barbaric band of butchers depicted in the humanitarian literature of the nineteenth century and the atonement literature of the twentieth." The people we meet are simply a group of ordinary men doing the very best they could under remarkably trying circumstances that were often under equipped and ill supplied.
Soldiers out doing a jobReview Date: 2006-01-21
Utley documents how that work was made much harder by the cheapness of the War Department and Congress. Downsizing the Army drastically to save money wasn't enough. Congress stuck most the infantry with leftover muzzleloaders rather than repeaters, meaning that their Indian foes usually (Winchester-armed themselves) could bring superior firepower to bear.
Meanwhile, the frontier Army had to go through the twists and turns of War Department, or Interior Department, twists and turns on Indian dealings, and in different high-level officers having different approaches not just to Indian fighting but to Indian truce and treaty negotiations.
Meanwhile, the grunt work, as typical, was to be done by the infantryman, not the cavalryman.
Read the whole story of his struggle to do his job in this book.

A WONDROUS BOOK.......Review Date: 2008-04-04
Sex is a two- way street and there are certain biological and cultural imperatives that dictate an essential truth: The needs of the woman must come first. A simple secret but one that is rarely acknowledged even in today's world.
Mr. Marshall is a gifted writer who is both informative and humorous. In a popular and commercial culture that buries us with impossible- to- meet demands on sexual performance, he clearly gives the reader guidance on how to build a trusting and loving sex life... without frustration.
So, buy one for your partner, friend or adult child to help them understand these truths about men and women - then enjoy a fulfilling and satisfying sex life that will last a lifetime.
Spread the word, The Great Sex Secret is an amazing book and an absolute must read.
You will have Mr. Marshall to thank for changing your life.
Fun, Interesting, and Important AdviceReview Date: 2007-09-22
The book is helpful for various audiences: young women, young men, and older couples.
Humor is employed throughout the book in a pleasing way. The result is that the reader smiles alot, even chuckles, without the importance of meaningful sex being disparaged.

Share this with your spouse, you'll both be glad you did.Review Date: 2007-12-17
Most of us have seen the hilarious scene in "When Harry Met Sally" when Meg Ryan fakes an orgasm with much screaming, yelling, and thrashing about. A woman at the next table deadpans "I'll have what she's having."
Kim Cattrall who played Samantha Jones, the vixen in the series Sex In The City, confesses that she was sexually unsatisfied for most of her adult life. I'm reminded of the phrase "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV."
Unfortunately, too many women today share their frustration! Traditional intercourse almost always ends in climax for men, but rarely for women. While this might satisfy women over the short term, over the long term it leads to frustration, anger, and bitterness.
Kim Marshall, sex educator and author, provides answers to solving this problem in "The Great Sex Secret."
Marshall has worked in public education since graduating from college in 1969. He was trained as a sex educator and began developing and teaching a sex education curriculum, reaching more than 1,700 young adolescents over the years.
Marshall addresses, in simple, clear, and concise ways how to address the physical and emotional challenges that prevent so many couples from achieving mutual satisfaction and shared intimacy. While technique is important, you also need to address communication, love and romance. All those things that strengthen a relationship, especially a marriage.
Great Sex that satisfies both partners can and does happen. I highly recommend it!
