Norman Craig was a small town doctor in Ontario, Canada. He had served with Canadian Forces in the Medical and the Flying Corps in WW1 and had first hand experience of combat. He had lost almost all the young friends with whom he had enlisted and felt their sacrifice and that of so many others, should not have been in vain. Annoyed at the lethargy displayed by his local council, Dr. Craig decided to raise the funds for a war memorial himself. He was a man of many talents so he wrote a play based on his war experience. For its production he also composed original songs and music.

This book is a commemoration of Dr. Craig's action by his grandson. It contains, together with the play and music, many pictures and documents relating to the war and the doctor's life. Although set in a time of greater innocence, the play accurately conveys the anger felt at the loss of so many lives, the bewilderment of the survivors, and the need to escape the horror in what ever manner could be achieved. It is as relevant today as it was then.

J Marshall Craig takes us back almost a century in time for this book. While the events are distinctly a piece of Canadian history, they should be of interest to all in the context of the world stage at that time. Exhaustively researched. Exquisitely written. A very worthwhile read.

Great and Effective Advice

Review Date: 2006-03-14
I am so happy I happened across this book. I hit 30 recently and overnight my skin seemed to change. I've wanted to do more for my skin for 5 years now but have always felt overwhelmed by all the products out there. I also never had a dermatologist that offered up suggestions on how to go about minimizing the effects of aging. This book does that. Dr. Gross provides a helpful, easy to read, and easy to understand approach to taking control of your skin destiny. He doesn't bore you with medical jargon but gives you just enough so that you have a basic understanding of what role different hormones and chemicals play on your skin. He starts out with a helpful test to group you into one of four skin levels. Based on what level you are in, he recommends a skin care regimen. Although he has his own line of pricey skin care products, he does not push it on the reader which makes the book that much more credible and respectable. After oohing and aahing over the before and after color photos, I incorporated some of his advice and have had some really great results (using Renova, twice daily washing and regular exfoliation). Based on the immediate improvements I just purchased some of his skincare products (it is too early to comment on them.)

This book has done such an excellent job of explaining what my skin type and age group needs and how and where to get it. I typed up a list of my skin concerns and what products and lasers I should ask my dermatologist about. I feel much more confident that I will get the skin I want now that I know what to ask for.
A worthwhile read.

As a New Yorker, I have the privilege of both reading this book and being treated by Dr. Gross, so I can confirm that his methods and suggestions really work.

This is the book to buy before going to the dermatologist or plastic surgeon's office because it explains all your choices (peels, lasers, botox, etc.) and educates about what to look for in a safe, effective anti-aging program.

The book begins with the "Skin Lifecycle Quiz," which establishes the basis for customizing the approach to maintaining your skin. In my opinion, this is the key to choosing the right treatment options for improving your skin. Without it, it's too easy to just buy a line of treatment products at the department store and hope they work (we've all been there!), or possibly opt for inappropriate surgery or unecessary processes.

Dr. Gross's approach is conservative, and he emphasizes protection (sunscreen!!!) and using proven choices (active ingredients and technologies) to get the results that you want.

The biggest misconception I've encountered in recommending this book to friends is that they all want to wait until they're over 40 to start dealing with their skin. This is a big mistake - it's important to maintain your skin ASAP, whether you're in your 20's, 30's or more. Dr. Gross emphasizes preventive care, and I agree.

This bible gives a fascinating look at the first time study notes as well as chapter and verse marks were used. A must have for serious Christians who wish to see and have the first bible published for the masses. Includes an introduction to the history of the Geneva Bible as well as the project to get it reprinted for "our time." It is beautifully and masterfully recreated in an easy to read format and text. Quality of the book is excellent.

Good book on an important period of transition

The book does a good job of explaining and surveying the various types of keyboards, composers and styles during the 18th century. From the high baroque works of J.S. Bach and Scarlatti to the early works of Beethoven, this book discusses the evolution of keyboard music during the pivotal 18th Century. Excellent chapters on C.P.E. Bach, on Haydn, and the Italian style I found particularly interesting. Ironic that the leading proponent of the Italian style during the century would be the German Johann Christian Bach whose stylistic influence on Mozart appears to have been profound.

One of the better books I've read on objectively looking at the direct influences, or lack thereof, of J.S. Bach on C.P.E. Bach and C.P.E. Bach on Haydn. The author makes a strong and compelling case for evaluating each composer in their own right because of how much they diverge from each other in so many fundamental ways in how they used the keyboard instruments of their day.

For those music lovers who find the wide variety of keyboard music from the 18th Century fascinating, this book does a good job of putting it all in the context of the times and influences of the period as well as acknowledges the creative genius of so many composers who represent the period.

Small, perfectly designed, delectable little book, with an amazing 5 or 6 news stories WITH unusual striking photos on each page. About 2 to 4 pages for EACH day of the year, for the whole century! Wow. My copy has shiny silver covers. What a great birthday present, historical reference, or book to have on a deserted island. Highly recommended, hard to find.

A fresh and introspective look into the realm of an evocative author, Moore creates a foreboding atmosphere in "215," and he does not allow the reader to come up for air until the final scene. A real tour de force.

It's a good, interesting read. Not too over-the head; pretty easy to understand. The index needs revising, though. Some of the key words were not on the assigned pages. I'm going into the contracting field and I'll be keeping this book for reference.
