Long Books

I was surprised by the depth and range of this book. The visuals are cold, yet contemplative. It's like a Michael Snow film in book form.

I am a teacher with few supplies at my disposal. This book showed me ways to use common items from a grocery store to demonstrate chemistry without spending a fortune or needing hard to find supplies. The book includes a section on safety, which is very important. It also describes why each experiment works the way it does. This book is best for the elementary or middle school science teacher.

What an entertaining little book. I got this for my uncle who is an outdoor nut and hasn't read a book in years. He loved it and has gotten copies for most of his hunting buddies. If you have a hunter or fisherman in your family, this is perfect. The stories are short, funny and so much like the whoppers told around the campfire. I seldom run across books written in short-story humor form and this is a type of "hunters" genre all by itself.

This book is a fun way to reveal things about your personality. I still do these quizzes over and over!!!

The author retells, in beautifully descriptive prose, the all too true story of the loss of a new mother, as recorded in the very first written journal by American pioneers, daring to pursue their dream into the Indian country frontier west of the Alleghenies. John Donelson's Journal of the Adventure tells how these hardy souls did not give up. Though beset by Dragging Canoe's tribe of rifle-armed, hostile Indians, by an outbreak of smallpox and by a terrifically cold winter producing impassable ice jams in their river path, these rugged souls persisted on flatboats over more than 1000 miles of arduous water trek to become founders of present day Nashville, Tennessee. I find the story, told in the first person, as anguished thoughts of the muted, grief stricken girl-become-woman, is extremely well written, as one would expect of its English professor authoress. I cannot wait to read her other books. I also testify to the accuracy of quotes from Donelson's The Journal of the Adventure, on which the story is based. I thank her for making once again alive the story of my gr-gr-gr-grandfather, Colonel John Donelson, and the hardy men, women and children who had faith in his dream, and that of James Robertson, leader of the frontiersmen who went overland to prepare a place for the new settlers. How they all anxiously hoped beyond hope for the safe arrival of their loved ones! Little did anyone suspect that, somehow, one child among them was destined to become the bride of the seventh president of the United States.

THIS EXCELLENT BRITISH BOOK LISTS OLD-FASHIONED ANNUALS FROM A TO Z. IT OFFERS THE READER INTERESTING HISTORICAL INFORMATION ON EACH PLANT AND DISCUSSES GROWTH HABITS AND PLANTING SUGGESTIONS. THE BOOK SERVES AS A GREAT PLANTING GUIDE AND A MARVELOUS PICTORIAL REFERENCE. I KNOW OF NO OTHER BOOK OF ITS KIND.

Exactly what I was looking for. This book has it all. If you are a student, couple, counselor, teacher, preacher, or anyone who enjoys learning more about relationships and what it takes to maintain one, this book will be great for you.

I received Count Pompeii - Stallion of the Steppes - as a gift for my Granddaughter - Ashlee who is eight years old and a worshippers of horses...we read the book together and she and I were so impressed with the story and the illustrations...it was a wonderful story written with much feeling and we both enjoyed it very much...we both look forward to researching other books by Basha O'Reilly whom from her writings is a very compassionate and caring person and a great lover of horses.
