This is so fun to read with my four year old daughter!! The book encourages you to bark when the word bark is used, and sniff like a dog, when it mentions sniffing... we laughed and laughed as we read this book and barked and sniffed! It's a lot of fun and she wanted me to read it again and again... and getting her to listen to books is quite difficult at times!!! This is a sure-fire pleaser!!! You'll love it, and have one happy and giggling child at the end!!!

We have found this book to be thorough in its explanation of applications to the code as it relates to our profession. We have attended seminars given by Mr. Yoder and Mr. Bernstein. This book together with their course should be mandatory for any engineer in our industry. An engineers book for engineers. It is obvious that they are experts in their fields. Well done.

Excellent line drawings for detail
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-20
I was looking for good detailed line drawings of Frank Lloyd Wright window designs, not for doing stained glass, but for other crafts. I had done several ceramic tiles with his simple designs. Dard Hunter designs also worked well for this, but was looking for something I could do in ceramics or mosaics. These books are perfect! Nice one-sided pages, on quality paper, and a lay-flat binding (plastic comb).

In Volume I, there are 12 residences/buildings represented, and 20 pages of window drawings. There are several pages of came details as well. It's nice to see the how one window may have been a side light window to another more (or much less) elaborate center window.

In Volume II some of the same buildings/houses are represented, but not the same windows in Volume I, and other houses too. There is also a section in Volume II for showing how to resize the designs. There are less came details in II, but it did not matter to me since I wasn't using the books for that purpose. The resizing section showed how quickly the design can look all wonky if stretched or shrunk incorrectly.

The two books together are perfect...some designs are fantastically complex, others beautifully simple--all wonderful!

I've already gotten better details of a design I wanted to tackle, better than guessing from a small window hanging or lamp photo. So if you want the detail of "is that line 1/3 the width or more like 1/2...or is it really 3 skinny sections???" These books will be a big help--just looking at the drawings will be an inspiration!

At last, a book about one of Wright's most unique designs, the Price Tower. It is an objective study and history of one of his designs without the philosophical fluff that accompanies so many Wright critiques. One does not need fluff when the architecture speaks for itself.

comprehensive prayers according to God's will

This book not only helps us pray specifically for the needs of our children, but it is also a model that can be adapted to any Scripture. We know when we pray Scripture back to God, that He hears us because we are praying according to His will. And as we learn with this book to pray Scripture, we can then apply that to the whole Bible, for any person, including ourselves. The Lord has answered so many of these prayers for my children.

Simplicity in Prayer

I read this book over 15 years ago. Dr. Ogilvie was the Senate Chaplain at the time, and Pastor of the Washington Cathedral. His book makes several good points, and directs the reader toward a more focused approach toward prayer. Exceptionally well written, combined with a very logical, well thought out arguements clearly differentiate this book from others of the genre.

A to-the-point primer for political action for nurses.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1997-12-09
In contrast with a neighborhood swimming pool, in politics the more people who jump in the cleaner it becomes, say Marilyn Goldwater and Mary Jane Lloyd Zusy in their political primer for nurses. Nurses are the major providers of health care in the United States, and for the past 25 years have been getting their feet wet in matters affecting health policy. Prescription for Nurses urges the reader to start small. Become active in voter registration, community politics and political campaigns. The book acknowledges that 95% of professional nurses are women who are wives, mothers and caregivers of elderly parents. Elected or appointed officials who are not particularly knowledgeable about health care create health policy. Goldwater and Zusy stress that the simple act of sending a letter or postcard to a legislator concerning a health issue is a significant political beginning. The book is well-written with concise chapters on the media and how to use it, effective lobbying and how to run for office. Prescription for Nurses' chapter on political action committees (PACS) includes a historical perspective and the best explanation of the PAC "soft money" loophole I have ever read. Nurses, pick up this prescription before you dive into the political pool.

What makes "La Fanfarlo"interesting is not so much for its depth but rather at the way it captures the bourgeoise flavor & appeal magnificently.Though it probes very well into human characteristics & nature vividly,it's realistic portrayal of that air of condescence & mannerisms which separate this class of society from the rest is nothing short of marvelous as it takes you to it's very world & initiates you if you are not aware.

The prose poems are the younger siblings of "The Flowers Of Evil".Though lacking in range & depth compared to the incomparable masterpiece,it nontheless elevates the reader into the emotional & intellectual mindscapes that the poet so accurately & efficiently defines.Truth & beauty go hand in hand inseparably well together, just as art & practicality give a slight glimpse into the life of a city from the point of a bitingly penetrating observer.

Classic Chronicles
Helpful Votes: 16 out of 21 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-06
Lloyd Alexander's "Chronicles of Prydain" have become a classic staple of fantasy literature, a few rungs below "Lord of the Rings" and a few inches down from "Chronicles of Narnia." In this volume, all six books in his series are brought together, showing all of Prydain's beauty, richness, humor and sorrow as one big book.

"The Book of Three" opens with Assistant Pig-Keeper Taran yearning for adventure -- and getting more than he bargains for when he chases the pig into the woods, and is nearly run down by a sinister horned rider. Soon he teams up with a wandering king-minstrel, a sharp-tongued princess and a furry creature called Gurgi to save Prydain from the power of the Horned King.

"The Black Cauldron" has Taran and the others setting out to destroy Arawn Deathlord's evil cauldron, which turns dead men into unkillable zombies. But other forces are after the cauldron, including three peculiar witches who insist on trading something for the cauldron. What is worse, the company faces treachery from someone in their own camp...

"The Castle of Llyr" ties up some loose ends from the first book, as Princess Eilonwy is sent to the isle of Mona to become a fine lady. But she has barely arrived when she is kidnapped by a minion of the evil enchantress Achren, her "aunt." Taran sets out to save her, but must team up with the young man who wishes to marry Eilonwy -- even though Taran is rapidly falling in love with her.

"Taran Wanderer" has Taran setting out to discover his past, since he feels he can't ask Eilonwy to marry him if he is lowborn. With only Gurgi at his side, he encounters evil wizards, malevolent bandits, and finally learns that his father just might be a shepherd... until a new revelation leads him to learn of his true worth.

"The High King" wraps up the saga, with Taran returning home. But no sooner has he arrived than he learns that noble Prince Gwydion has been half-killed -- and the magical sword Dyrnwyn has been stolen by Arawn Deathlord. Now the heroes set out one and for all to attack Arawn's stronghold and get back the sword -- but how can they defeat a deathless army and a shapeshifting enemy?

Finally, "The Foundling" fills in a few of the gaps with short stories that illustrate the backstory of the Prydain novels. Among the stories are the tragic history of Dyrnwyn, how the wizard Dallben was reared by the three witches (and where he got the Book of Three), and the love story of Eilonwy's parents.

Take two parts "Lord of the Rings," add a bit more humor and comedy, and stir in bits and pieces of Welsh mythology. That pretty much sums up the Prydain Chronicles, which is one of the rare series that is meant for kids, but is as rich an experience for adults. Even better, if they know the origins of the old legends and myths that make up the edges of these stories. Alexander populates this little world with evil enchantresses, deathless warriors, eager teenagers and talking crows, all the while coming up with an original storyline that doesn't smack of lifted legends.

In a sense, the whole series is a coming-of-age story, where Taran learns wisdom, maturity, loss and love. Oh yeah, and that that Chinese curse about interesting times is quite correct. Princess Eilonwy and the bard-king Fflewddur Fflam add a bit of comic relief, but they are also strong characters in their own right, as is the fuzzy sidekick Gurgi, who goes from being an annoyance to a loyal and lovable friend.

"The Chronicles of Prydain" are fantasy at its best, mingling myth and legend with a fast-paced plot and endearingly quirky characters. Definitely not something to miss.
