Very enjoyable.

I have read nearly all of the books by this talented author. John Lloyd Branson has become one of my favorite main characters. I have searched the local bookstores for more of this series but have been unable to locate any other than the ones listed, and I have read these. I think that D. R. Meredith is a very talented woman and her characters reflect the essence of Texas. I have suggested her books to many people who are interested in reading material written by Texans.

Superb Double-Storyline Mystery!
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2003-02-24
I certainly hope that other mystery buffs discover Jill McGown. Her mysteries are excellent. This particular one is extremely complex. There are two storylines that run side-by-side - one from 13 years ago and one for the present of the book. The same people are involved in both, and the reader has to read and understand both before they can grasp the mystery. This books pits Lloyd and Judy against a true criminal mastermind. There are many twists to the plot, but the main one is that the criminal gets murdered. They find themselves in the unenviable situation of having to solve that murder and an old unsolved one from 13 years before. But never fear, Judy and her trusty notebook come into play and they do end up discovering the killer in both murders. Another twist is that who really cares why the criminal was killed. We find out that he was a truly evil person! Great reading!

This book is very inspiring. The words of these phenomenol musicians speaks to inspiration and muse, cultural influences, and living in general. Most of the musicians here are jazz players, but their life experiences speak to improvisation, ideas, and the heart of music in any genre. Any contemporary musician especially would find this a rich resource.

Expert view of Joni's contributions to music world.

It was both surprising and gratifying to read this 'critical analysis'
of Joni Mitchell's vast contributions to the world of music. One might
have expected to learn more of her 'jaded' personal life, but this commentary of the professional, technical aspects of her music is enlightening.

It has become more apparent -- despite her nearly ten-year hiatus from the creative scene, that she must be recognized, as the author so appropriately puts it, as the 'genius' that she is. Kudos to Whitesell for his thoughtful, introspective analysis of her work.

In my opinion this book would be recommended to young adults age 10-15 because is a story where all high school kids face and can relate to maybe having experienced moving to a new school and having to meet new friends and readjust socially. Also teens can relate to this character because maybe of her struggles in the family and adjusting to a new school.

This was a great listen. So hard to believe how different the world really is from one place to another. I enjoyed the richness of the writing tremendously and it was movingly read as well.

Best of the Trilogy

This book is the Best of the trilogy. There is less setup to the beginning of the book, and still has that cliffhanger ending leaving room for the possibility of revisiting these three worlds.
Unfortunately it takes place several decades after the second book and has all new characters, but it still is the Best of the trilogy.

Time for a Timeless Message
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-09
This is one of those books once you start, you can't put it down. This is a problem of all the author's books. This book consists of nine messages the late D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones preached at Westminster Chapel thirty-six years ago. Israel was warned by prophet Isaiah of the coming wrath from God if they did not heed Isaiah's message. From reading this book, it is not difficult to imagine the effect these sermons had on the author's congregation. This is because the reader cannot help but think Dr. Jones is directing the sermons to him or her. Dr. Jones shows his congregation that the names and places have changed, but the message is the same because the sins are the same. He points out the solutions are also still the same. As Isaiah warned Israel of God's coming wrath, so Jones warned England and the United States thirty-six years ago. This book is still valid today. The author shows the places and names have changed again, but the sins and the solutions have not. The author points out what is right and wrong is subjective to each person in today's world. And God still holds each person accountable. Dr. Jones does not let anyone off the hook because he knows God will not let anyone off the hook. Dr. Jones' call to hear and obey God then as today, is the only thing standing between the us and the wrath of God. The wrath of God will still come, it is just a question of when, and on whom. This subject is avoided today, but those who seek the truth will get it from the author. This book is a must read.

National System of Political Economy: History (National System of Political Economy)

List's systems of political economy belong to one of the most underrated classics in the fields. What differentiates his work in contrast to all other political economists is that he analyzes economic action from a specifically political angle. Despite Paul Krugman's harsh verdict (in Foreign Affairs, July/August 1994, p.202) against List in his rejoinder to the so called pop-economists: as long as the world is divided into nation-states, international political economy has to analyze both: the logic of markets AND the logic of power among nations.

BUT: the book edition of Dry boones press is terribly bad. I have the impression that they have simply downloaded the internet version of List's National system from ECONLIB and put it between a cover and a back. Horrible, how is it possible that classics can be treated and humilated in this way? A real shame!
