This story is one of my favorites by Leigh Michaels. Her two characters live next door to each other and very quickly are forced to work together to keep up the appearance of an "engagement." I love how they are able to communicate without mincing any words and yet find themselves enjoying each other's company. Ms. Michaels's style of occasionally giving the male perspective is great. As usual in her more recent books, the male main character Sam is charming, a little vague about his activities, and protective without being too heavy handed.

Businessman Will Desmond brings his faithful canine Buster with him while staying at Manhattan's exclusive Hush Hotel. The hotel's pet concierge Mercy Jones assumes pampering pets is ridiculous, but does her job as a professional hiding her inner disdain from the owners. Will is attracted to Buster's temporary handler, but has plans that he believes Mercy is key for his achieving them; although the walks in Central park with her and Buster as chaperone has him reconsidering his objective.

At the same time bitter Drina Dalakis checks into the hotel. The angry Romanian Gypsy seeks vengeance on those whose actions led to the arrest and death of her husband. Her target is at the Hush Hotel where an expensive dog collar will begin her scheme.

Romantic suspense fans will fully appreciate this action-packed story line that never slows down for even a bark once Buster introduces Will to Mercy even after she learns the truth as to who he really is. With a fabulous twist to spice up the tale of the dog collar, fans will enjoy this fine tale as Will finds out love cannot supersede his lies because trust is more important in a relationship and his beloved believes he can lie faster than a blink.

This is an intense and engaging romance adventure set on the Aussie frontier in the 1860's. This book is a page turner that i was unable to put down until I had finished reading it, and normally I'm not interested in this genre at all. Good going, Margaret Leigh! I can't wait to read more of this woman's work!

The husband inheritance.

Review Date: 2001-06-25
Deke Oliver was definitely not Danielle's idea of husband material. So it was infuriating that he believed she was trying to manipulate him into marriage. It wasn't her fault their joint inheritance forced them to live under the same roof!

And it was Deke who refused to keep it strictly business-suggesting that since they had to share a home, why not a bed? Danielle simply ignored this outrageous proposal-until she began to feel tempted by the intimacy of living together, and Deke began to look very much like the perfect husband-to-be....

CALLING ALL "ANTIQUES ROADSHOW" FANS!...

Review Date: 2008-05-14
If you are familiar with Leigh Keno and Leslie Keno, the charming, identical twin brothers who often appear as appraisers on the popular "Antiques Roadshow" television program, then you will undoubtedly enjoy this book.

Just as they do on the "Antiques Roadshow", the twins convey their unbridled enthusiasm for antique American furniture. Their passion is contagious and makes one a truly captive audience. The book is as interesting as it is entertaining.

Born in rural, Mohawk Valley in upstate New York, the twins developed their passion at the feet of their parents who had dabbled in this field. At a very young age, searching for old objects with a history was a hobby that developed into a passion. As teenagers, flea markets were their stomping grounds. As they grew up, they developed by inclination and education into worldly and sophisticated connoisseurs of beautiful rare objects, specializing in antique American furniture, a niche in which they are now foremost experts.

The book takes you on the hunt of some of their most prized acquisitions. With an insider's look at the wonderful world of collecting antique American furniture, the twins transports the reader on a journey that few would otherwise be able make, as many of their most prized acquisitions bring in six and seven figure sums. The excitement of the hunt, the thrill of the discovery of a valuable piece of antique American furniture, the history of its provenance, and the loving description of the beauty of that piece, all provide a fascinating peek into the rarified world of antiques in which the twins work.

The tone of the book is conversationally chatty and educational. The twins have a wonderful, innate ability to draw the listener into their exclusive world. Their down to earth charm is a delicious counterpoint to the exquisite and rare pieces that they have come across, all of which they share with the reader in detail, lovingly describing the craftsmanship that went into making these beautiful pieces that are so collectible today. This book is well illustrated with both black and white and color photographs that pictorially detail some of the pieces that are mentioned in the book, serving to enhance this most enjoyable reading experience.

Fire and Sword.

Stark already has released the Hounds, and he puts them to very good use in this battle of progressive and conservative forces across the planet.

Under siege, the forces of his allies need help, and he can find them some. With his friend Simon's political influence, getting some technological assistance from a ship in the area could make raising a siege like bullseyeing womp-rats in the T-16 back home.

A somewhat more powerful set of events than in the first novel, I think.

Solid, wide-ranging help for the small business owner
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2005-04-03
I must say I didn't know what to expect when I opened this book. I had found it listed as a recommended reading on The Great Game of Business Web site (www.greatgame.com). But Francis completely won me over with her solid, specific recommendations and common-sense approach to small business management. This book covers a wide range of topics-basic goal-setting, time management, how to use financial analysis to make better management decisions, making planning a regular part of your operations, the benefits of open-book management, developing an organizational structure, hiring and keeping good personnel, disciplining and firing employees the right way, and suggestions for developing a positive attitude about your business and your life. I still don't know how she managed to pack so much information into a relatively short book (161 pages counting the glossary and bibliography), but you'll find numerous nuggets of gold in every single chapter. If I had to recommend one starting point for any small business owner, this book would be it. Although this book would be appropriate for any small business owner in any industry, owners of construction-related businesses will find it especially helpful in virtue of the fact that many of Francis's consulting assignments were in that industry.

The Backcountry Awaits You!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-02-10
This is a great guidebook for anyone new to planning a trip utilizing a backcountry facility. Huts allow a broader range of people access to the mountains than ever before while at the same time minimizing environmental impact by concentrating use. While the authors are from Colorado and the book has a Colorado feel, it is written in a way that makes it relevant to any hut system in the US. Well researched and well written, this is the guidebook that will open up all the wonders the backcountry has to offer you.
