This 3rd book in the TRADE WINDS series is sure to knock you off your feet! Devora Ashby is eagerly awaiting her upcoming wedding to the handsome Spanish/English buccaneer Bruce (Nicklas) Valentin. But treachery awaits them both as betrayal becomes a factor in this story. Bruce faces confrontation and the test of his faith as he tries to fulfill his plans for Devora, his crewmen and the treasure. Devora faces her mother's declining health and unwanted advances of Bruce's father, Maximus. Will Devora forgive her mother for abandoning her when she was a child? Will they ever escape to Barbados and can Bruce elude the inquistors? Will Bruce and Maximus ever make peace between them? A great story about love, forgiveness, pirate battles, swordfights and passion. Linda Chaikin did an excellent job on this series and I can't wait to see what's coming up next on her agenda!

As time draws near, the noose tightens, etc, etc, etc, anyways Bruce aka Nicklas realizes his brother is clearly onto him and his fatherly will also soon find out his secret, so he decides to try and sneak out while Devora goes ahead of him on another ship, but before he can quite get out of harbor the cannons are drawn on him and his ship sinks, and of cource his father finds him out.

After being forced into hard labor, Bruce still patronizes his father and still seeks his revenge, though in a more silent way.

But with revenge comes a new understanding that revenge is bittersweet and doesn't always have the desired affect.

Linda ends her Trade Winds trilogy with dynamic gusto and flair. As good as all the other 2 books were, what with the first meeting, and then the recognization, I felt that the conclusion of the trilogy was the best!

When I wrote this swinging nursery rhyme, I set out to write a jazz pat-a-cake. And I hear the diaper and toddler find the rhythm infectious. Some parents tell me their children ask to read the book every day and even sleep with the it. Happy dancing and pleasant dreams!

I bought this book for our now-22 month old daughter over a year ago because music was always an important part of my life and I our daughter to appreciate music as well. The moment we opened to the first page, it became one of her favorite books. As I would read it to her in the beginning I would do motions with the book -- to "Pound your drum" I would pat her tummy, to "Bounce and Boogie" I would bounce her up and down, etc. Soon she was doing the motions for the following page before I could even get the page turned. She LOVES this book, and I have always had fun reading it to her as well. The rhythms of the book are wonderful; you'll feel like you're singing a song with your child every time you read it. I highly recommend it!

"Jazz baby, jazz baby,/join the band./You've got music/in your hands." So begins Carole Boston Weatherford's engaging and entertaining romp, and little ones will be tapping feet, snapping fingers, playing real or imagined instruments, and dancing, bouncing, shimmying and jiggling to the jive of jazz. Ms Weatherford's rhyming text is filled with energy, rhythm, and motion, and complemented by Laura Freeman's bold and bright illustrations. Each two page spread dazzles with color and sheer joy as children are pictured on a rainbow, note-filled background blowing horns, plinking keys, plunking strings, beating drums and moving to the music. Perfect for preschoolers, Jazz Baby is a fun-filled, interactive celebration that is sure to become an instant family favorite. "Jazz baby, jazz baby,/hum a song./Let it rock you/all night long."

A true work of art. Dan takes the reader through the reform and changes jkd under went following Bruce Lee's passing as well as showing many techniques of jkd. At this point in time the book being almost 20 years old it is just as informative and enjoyable to page through today. Unfortunatly I borrowed my copy to a friend almost 15 years ago and haven't seen it since. I truly hope the book is put into re-print so I may buy another copy. Not only does Dan take the reader through the history and comcepts of jkd he also loads the book with pictures of the(now)old Filipino Kali Academy. Truly a collectors item.

IN MEMORY OF MARIO PONTILLO
Since the late 1970's, I have studied Mr. Lee's "Way of the Intercepting fist." I have the 1st editions of all the "best" books on Bruce's work.
Dan published this in 1976, I have the original in my possession. It use to belong to Mario, whom was a great fighter that followed Bruces teachings from afar. Mario has passed on to better things, just as Bruce has. Get this book if you can.

My favorite quote: "Knowing is not enough, you must apply; willing is not enough, you must do." -Bruce Lee

Really hard to find better gospel than this book

The hard time of life might be a very good chance to see whether my own belief in God is faithful and sincere one or not. For me, it occurred during the year 2002,with much loss of fortune, good clients and so many accidents like fire, continuous bad lucks. These bad ones drove me to reconsider my belief, and found that my belief had been based on poor knowlege of God and almost over 10 years of church experience was focused on human relationship with people ,not with God. Only God could help me to escape from the troublesome circumstances, I confirmed. That was because human endevour to escape from bad surroundings made them only worse. After several year's trial and errors, I found a good pastor through her book "Jesus is coming"(It was a Korean version). I was shocked, for I felt the Holy Spirit moved me. Even though she had been an average housewife, and had less education for theology, her message was above my expectation. It was certain " unless she had experienced such Heavenly lives as shown in her book, she could never write that kind of contents". Full of holy experience, directly taught by God, long fellowship and obedience with God. With the same words, different feeling. That thrilled me. By this book, my belief pattern changed. Goal of my life, hierarchy of value system, approach of social lives and business changed, too. It goes without saying that not the book itself, but the Holy Spirit who lead her to write the book "Jesus is coming" had changed whole my life.
I hope that everyone that reads this book share holy experience.

Such a great spiritual guidance...

It's such a great spiritual book of revelation, once I started reading, I just couldn't stop turning the pages until the end of the book. As a christian who really loves our Lord Jesus Christ, what can be the good news than 'JESUS IS COMING'...

When we are facing the matter of life or death in spirit, we are only praying for fortunes and prosperity. This life is not real life but only the shadow of the Heaven, we are existing only by the grace of GOD. I really recommend this book to our fellow christians who want to be 'pure bride of our JESUS CHRIST'.

Especially, I was deeply moved by the poem of Pastor Hyunsook Lee, SIN AND GOD.

It's not a sin to sin
But failing to repent is.
It's not a sin to fail to do good deeds
But not know God is.
It's not a sin to be proud
But failing to receive God's grace is.
It's not a sin to fail to love
But failing to receive God's help is.
.....
Without prayer
all the shame comes out.
With much prayer
God's wisdom shines through.
Salvation is completed with Holy Spirit's guidance. Amen.

Such a simple words, but deep truth.
There is nothing greater than this book for the holy spritual guidance
as it is written by God's guidance and God's seceret's revelation.

Jesus is coming back!!

This book is very exiting and interesting!! Do you believe that Jesus is coming back soon? Many churches in America are in a sleep. The sermons that are spoken in these churches are only about prosperous. Today we lost the passion for the cross of Jesus Christ. If you read this book, it will make you remind you of the first love with Christ. And this book showed me the way to love God and Jesus Christ. This author saw many visions and dreamed about spiritual things. The book was interesting and captivating that I could not stop reading! Some people might reject visions or dreams just because it is a vision or a dream. But these dreams and visions are founded and matched with the word of God exactly.

All believers have to prepare for the second coming as a pure bride. If you do not prepare like the five foolish brides, you will not be saved during the rapture. Churches in America lost the holiness in the Gospel. We have to remember many of the evangelists who led the awakenings of this nation. Like Jonathan Edwards, Charles G. Finney and Moody. They emphasized about the repentance, holiness and loving God, not to love the world.
I recommended this book to everybody who wants to love Jesus more or to prepare the second coming. It will make your spirit renew.

"Jook Right On" is described by the author as a "blues quilt," a collection of anecdotes told by blues men and women. Loosely organized by subject, the result is a closely interwoven chorus of authentic voices that achieves the honesty and clarity of the blues itself.

You may not recognize half the names of the storytellers, but you cannot help but know their humanity.

Years ago, Barry Lee Pearson wrote about the storytelling tradition that is a big part of blues music. In his first books, he documented and presented good stories by numerous blues players. This book is widens the scope of his previous work. It is a collection of numerous stories from well over 25 years of his own research. After an interesting introduction, the book consists of stories about a range of factors that are relevant to the blues musicians' lives. He includes interview material from some fairly prominent blues musicians, but many of the musicians are not the more famous artists. They all offer important histories and memories about playing, and it's interesting to read about their accounts of blues legends such as Sonny Boy Williamson, Howling Wolf, Robert Johnson, and other better known players. The stories are compelling reading. I especially like the descriptions of how the blues players got their start, and I found it especially interesting how many of them had parents who discouraged them from playing. There are also great descriptions of jook joints, house parties, and life on the road, all of which provide a fine context for understanding blues. It is particularly interesting how the stories are simply presented as interesting texts. Many of them read like great short stories and have an inherent interest on their own. If readers want to find more about the music and musicians, they can consult the excellent bibliographic materials that Pearson provides.

fans of lee and fans of leah alike will always remember those rocket screaming, headcase creaming, psycho reaming, and convulsion dreaming days of volcanic glory. hey, don't we all? even still, lee's acounts easily rile old ghosts thought long dead and trampled on. go lee! (goalie! heh-heh.)

so anyway. any fan of lee, leah, or SONIC YOUTH will enjoy this book gluttonously. lee's writing style is jacked up, true, but usually in the best way. the very pages come to life and strangle and intimidate the reader with ruthless efficiency, rendering them stunned and confused and feeling momentarily adrift in their surroundings. a truly thrilling congregation of words and pictures.

a minor drawback would be the book's tendency to cause temporary consentration disruptions, and temporary short-term memory loss. that, and it's super harsh.

in closing i highly recommend this literature. it, frankly, is perfect.

I recently bought a copy of this book became an instant fan of the author. Mr. Lee's descriptions, characters and settings are top-notch. This story is written with insight and humor. I recently moved from Washington DC. and am amazed at Mr. Lee's on-point ability to describe the DC-scene is allowing the reader to actually "see" the story unfolding. (The chapter that takes place at the Kennedy center - outstanding!)
This is a book about loving and being loved. It is life at its best and at its worst. Mr. Lee was able to capture not only the heart and soul of his characters, but allowed the reader through his phenomenal writing skills to get to know, love or hate his characters as if they were real. They are everyday people that any reader can relate to. I mean, who doesn't have at least one CHER in their lives?
This is a great read for anyone whose loved, laughed, or just enjoys curling up with a good book. BUT, be prepared. I promise you...you won't be able to put it down.

I have had the chance to meet the author and was given a autographed copy of his book to my Partner and myself and after reading this wonderful novel I was amazed at how this story hit home for me on so many personal levels. I think that we as professional gay men can identify with the main character Mark and his search for love, truth of self, freedom from pain and misery, and most of all emotional healing. We've all have been hurt in some point and we've all dated a "SATAN" in our life...lol. And, we have encountered a "Jared" as well. This story is touching in how we cultivate relationships with our family and sometimes the lack there of. Also the revalation of what was thought to be a strong friendship between Mark and Todd is also a crutial part of Mark's Standing up for himself. This book is a "MUST READ" for those who like to read a good story about gay life and relationships. I would compare J'son as the next E.Lynn Harris in the way he weaves his story and his character's to the point that you dont want to put the book down. You'll laugh out loud, and cry a silent tear; but this story will make you appreciate discovering love, falling in love, and last but not least deserving to be loved.

A dead man on the hunt for his murderer - an enjoyable police procedural novel

Review Date: 2005-10-29
A man wakes up in a parking garage with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He quickly realises that he is dead and a ghost who can only affect the material world in the smallest ways. However, if he is to move on he must find out how he died and who killed him.

This is a police procedural novel with a difference. While the Ghost-Detective isn't a totally new idea its more often seen in movies rather than novels. Killough has managed to put together a story of murder, arson and mistaken assumptions that reads at a good pace and is populated with interesting and likeable characters. The story is not padded out and ends on a note which makes it plain that this is a stand alone novel. Recommended if you like police procedural novels, and to top it off Meisha Merlin has produced another hardcover of good quality construction, which is always a nice thing to handle in a book.

A man wakes in a parking garage with the horrible memory of being murdered. Or, is it a dream?

So begins Lee Killough's KILLER KARMA, a doozy of a mystery, about Detective Cole Dunavan who realizes he's a ghost far sooner than he remembers who he is. Having a curious and ordered mind, Dunavan begins to notice patterns in his random memories and their subsequent associations until he is able to piece together his own biography. But he remains unclear about why he's been pulled back to this world rather than simply dying.

Being a ghost comes with other challenges: how can you turn the page in a police report if you can't move anything with substance? How do you communicate with people? How can you ride an elevator to the right floor in a high rise building without the ability to push a button? Killough masterfully brings up and solves these problems in believable ways.

The mysteries of Dunavan's murder - and what happened to one of his new informants - form the core of the book. But even after Dunavan has solved these questions-he still has to figure out how to prove the answers, bring the criminals to justice and console those who have suffered the most.

Killough has created more than a paranormal police procedural here. This is a novel about love and redemption, about friendship and possibility. Any reader who enjoys a good mystery with strong psychological elements, compelling characters, and a fascinating storyline will relish this one. I highly recommend it.

He finds himself in a parking garage not knowing who he is but certain that someone murdered him. It takes him a while to realize that he is Detective Cole Donovan of the San Francisco Police Department working on an arson and burglary case. He realizes he is a ghost when nobody sees or hears him and by his ability to walk through walls and doors. He was meeting an informant Sara Benay and he hoped that she had enough information to take the owner of Flaxx Enterprises Donald Flaxx down because in one of his stores that was torched a foreman died, making him an accessory to murder.

His informant Sara has disappeared and since his body has not been found the police think they ran off together. Cole wants his wife to know the truth about the meetings with Sara, not what the police think. Using his ghostly powers, he convinces his former partner Razor, once he gets over the shock of seeing Cole as a ghost, to help him find out why he was killed, who murdered him and how it relates to Flaxx Enterprises. Even when Cole discovers who the killer is, Razor has no way of obtaining a warrant because he can't explain how he came by the knowledge.

Lee Killough has written a totally enthralling and spellbinding paranormal police procedural. The protagonist is a ghost who bumbles and fumbles as he learns to use his ghostly powers once he discovers what they are. His instincts and experience help him find the perpetrators and he uses spirit tricks to rattle the various suspects into making mistakes. KILLER KARMA is an enjoyable and entertaining reading experience that is destined for this reviewer's keeper shelf.
