One of the consummate business authors of our time, Mr. Tuller assembles a lifetime of strategic business experience into an insightful "must-have" planning and reference tool for anyone involved in international trade. His unique treatment of business risk is the most useful and comprehensive approach I've ever encountered, bar none. Anyone looking to improve or grow their Latin American presence will be well served by this book.

The reviewers didn't get this book. Ferlinghetti speaks to the heart of American experience here in the spirit of John Dos Passos "USA" but without Dos Passos political hysteria. Americus is a great overview of American poetics while at the same time being this incredible distillation of Ferlighetti's own vision of American and the world. To read this book is to revisit some of Ferlinghetti's best writing as he looks back on the world so far. It is an incredible achievment in a time where it is so unfashionable to be political or to see the world beyond the elitest confines of academic poetry. The Publisher's Weekly review misses the mark, he does not try to rival Whitman or Pound, but he takes that voice into our new millenium. I see him as a continuation of the work that so many modern poets are afraid to take up. I am looking forward to book II.

I purchased this book for my high school's library and it has proven to be very popular. We also have many of Rosen's other titles and they all have been an important assett to us.

A powerful gathering of his personal and intellectual life

Any college-level collection strong in Huxley literature needs SELECTED LETTERS: it's a powerful gathering of his personal and intellectual life in letters - most of them published for the first time - and is especially notable in light of the fact that of some ten thousand letters he wrote, only a fraction have previously been published - and that this volume comes nearly forty years after the first appearance of another volume of letters. These here have never been published, providing a fine new collection for any college-level library already strong in Huxley works, who would round out their offerings with nonfiction.

I was first exposed to this book six years ago when I was a freshman in high school. As the primary text for my History of Guam class, this book served as a significant resource. The book is full of color (in the words) and life. It is not a dry review of a people, but tells their story. Rather than just stating facts, Larry told about the culture and the people as a whole. This book truly brings back to life an ancient people.

This book contains six one-page size puzzles. The pictures are much like the front cover. My 5-year-old loves this book, but I think all early elementary age kids would enjoy this (if they like puzzles!). I think there is also an Ancient Egypt puzzle book made by the same company.

This text is a great academic source for the serious study (as opposed to 'those Indians did some nice art') of petroglyphs and pictographs in general, and more specifically for the key sites in Wyoming and near Billings. The writing is clear, concise and precise. The sources cited are all solid and the bibliography is valuable. The printing is excellent and the cover is very appealing to view. It is the best book on the subject. I am happy someone wrote it.

I don't actually own this book, but I took it out from the library and enjoyed reading it. The author, who lived in Angola for several years, did a good job of explaining the history of Angola and its people from the first contact with the Portuguese up until the independence. The book explains many of the conflicts Angola has suffered and continues to suffer as a result of colonialism, ethnolinguistic clashes, and the conflict of African and european nationalisms. A good resource for information on how the April 25 Movement in Portugal related to the independence of Angola.

This volume is a treasure-trove of transcendental goodies, containing more than 100 selections from 32 writers. Emerson's "Nature" and part of Thoreau's "Walden" are here, along with dozens of essays, sermons, and poems from a variety of personalities, men and women, too numerous to mention. Some pieces will be familiar to anyone who's read about the mid-1800s; others are refreshlingly new to most of us. Thanks to reading this book from cover to cover, I have discovered that I like Theodore Parker's writing quite a bit. I may have to stray off my Thoreauvian path and delve into Parker a bit more.
And yet, I disagree with some of the editor's observations in this volume. Unlike Buell, I don't think Thoreau considered surveying "a day job he didn't particularly care for," and I'm fairly certain he was never a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. I'm also not fond of the titles Buell created for some of the selections, because that method makes it difficult to compare his anthology with others or with the original works. For example, what is labelled here as Thoreau's "Christianity and Hinduism Compared" is really a portion from the book "A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers." "A Walk to Walden" by Nathaniel Hawthorne is really an excerpt from "The American Notebooks." But the sheer diversity, variety, and thematic arrangement of the selections far out-weighs any misgivings about their titling. If you are interested in transcendentalism, this is a wonderful book to start with. It's a nicely-priced paperback that's easy to carry around, which is important, because it'll take you a while to pore over and absorb (or even skip) its entries.
In addition, three older anthologies of transcendental writings may interest readers: "Transcendentalism: A Reader" (Joel Myerson, ed., 2000); "The Transcendentalists: An Anthology" (Perry Miller, 1977), and "The American Transcendentalists: Their Prose and Poetry" (Perry Miller, 1957). Each anthology has a focus, and surprisingly little overlap occurs when comparing their contents. And each contains a few jewels not found in any other contemporary anthology. Happy hunting!
