We're reminded that as Christians, God is with us and "There is power in His presence." God is active in the lives of believers. He told us He would be. "Ability, talents, opportunity, material resources are really not ours. They are God's investments in us. And like any wise investor, God expects dividends," the author tell us. What He expects, we're told, for one thing, is to serve others. Bernard Shaw is quoted as saying, "A gentleman is one who puts more into life than he takes out."

The next time you're unjustly criticized, consider what he says about the source of such comments. "It is a sure sign of an inferiority complex when a person tells of the faults of another."

On significance, he tells us that no one was born apart from the will of God, that we existed in the mind of God before we were physically formed in the womb.

Faith is a necessary component of the Christian life. William Carey is quoted from a sermon he gave in 1992, "Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God."

Examples of Jesus meeting practical daily needs are presented. The author couples this with inner longings and desires and writes, "...He (Jesus) knows we have desires and wants beyond our bare necessities. We are not wild beasts."

Near the conclusion he has a quote worth pondering. It helps a person see beyond self. Allen writes, "No person ever really lives until he has found something worth dying for."

This book will improve you life. It will help you to connect with everlasting realities. Its truths will transform your perceptions. You thoughts will be healthy as you medidate on its precepts.

The Golden Road and its prequel, The Story Girl, are two of the best books I have ever read. I never seem to get tired of them, either...I have read them countless times! If you enjoy L. M. Montgomery's novels, such as the Anne of Green Gables series, these books are a must. The Golden Road tells the story of cousins, Beverley (who narrates the story), Felix, Cecily, Felicity, Dan, and Sara Stanley, also known as the Story Girl, plus their friends Peter, the hired boy, and Sara Ray. The adventures these eight have are sometimes exiting, sometimes sad...but mostly really funny! For instance, one time, they have the governors wife to tea...but they think she's their deaf Aunt Eliza and comment on the governors big nose and such things! And Felicity accidentally bakes tooth-powder rusks...oh, I can't tell you the whole book! Read it for yourself!

I enjoyed The Golden Road, but not as much as I enjoyed The Story Girl. I recommend you read the two novels together, one right after the other. If you enjoy reading books set in a long-ago era, the books have a charm to them. If you like action, these books will not appeal to you as much.

In my opinion, it is not possible to enjoy The Golden Road unless you have just recently read The Story Girl. Not all of the characters and actions in TGR will be understoon unless you have read TSG. The characters are a lot of fun and are well-written. The adventures this group of friends have together will stay in your memory forever.

I loved this book. I read the Story Girl years ago, but the 'Road to Avonlea' books ruined the concept for me, and I forgot that there was an original sequel. And then, my sister borrowed it from the library; I was bored, and so picked it up. I read the entire book that afternoon - forget about the fact that exams were six weeks off, that I should be vaccuuming - I couldn't put it down. I admit, I had cherished hopes of the Story Girl and Bev, but they were dashed. Felicity and Peter, I am sure, were happy for the rest of their lives....and I was crying so hard when I read about Cecily. I loved it.

I have never written a book review and I have never read a better golf book than "Seven Days on the Links of Utopia." This book is wonderfully written and the message is one that can transform your golf game and your life. I believe that the author was truly inspired by God to have written such a wonderful story. Get it. Read it. Share it.

Good Message and good read.

This book is not only about a golfers struggles with his game but also his focus in life. The book takes a professional golfer through his golf swing and the teacher helps in understand the golf swing rather than make him a mechanical golfer. This is important because the more a golfer can understand the golf swing the better he/she can adapt during the course of a round of golf. The last part of the book discusses the importance aspects of ones life which have nothing to do with golf. I plan to purchase this book for several friends that need to hear the message. The only issue I had was at the end I felt like I was being "sold" to by the author. Read this book and it will have a positive impact on your life.

"The Little Book Packs a Powerful Spiritual Punch!"

Review Date: 2008-04-08
It's about time I wrote a review for this book because I have had it for years, read it repeatedly, toss it in my briefcase or luggage on business, or keep a few on hand to pass out......

I have been familiar with the work of spiritual responsibility as taught by Christel Nani and Dr. Rebecca Grace for years now...and have found my personal and professional lives changed remarkably for the better for it. The basics for this book give a very simple, hands on, easy approach to seeing how we each tend to get in our own way while seeking what we want. This book strips away the fanfare and mystic fluff for basic truths about finding joy, being your best self, living your best life, and literally ridding oneself of one's own "stinking thinking." So many times we are our own worst enemy in achieving our own happiness. This book is probably the only book I pick up to re-read fairly often. I always seem to find something new - a new approach, a new idea, a new way to solve a problem each time I read it.

Now, if you are looking for an in-depth analysis of the belief system we carry with us, and how it can be detrimental to one's physical and emotional health - with a very detailed analysis of these issues and how to change, as well as countless specific informal case studies (author's anecdotes) -"Guidance 24/7" is not the book for you. "Guidance 24/7" is the fast, swift, quick, high-intensity dose of a shot of joy. If you want the more detailed analysis of tribal beliefs, lots of great illustrative case studies, and tons of specific resolutions as to how to proceed - you want Christel's later book - "Sacred Choices."

Basically I differentiate the two books this way....."Sacred Choices" is the long slow luscious sip of a frothy fabulous latte, while "Guidance 24/7" is the quick high-intensity shot of espresso..... either way, enjoy! P.S. I just ordered the "Confidence Code CD" - another must own item..... play it before bed and fall asleep to it.... the results are fabulous!

Whipped Cream, No Cake

Although nicely written by a medical intuitive, I was disappointed in this slight offering. The information was basic to the point of being simplistic. The boxed thoughts which were to be used a meditations were neither memorable nor effective. In less skilled hands, this book would be trivial and annoying.

This is not to say, it has no value. It is a quick and easy read and the author's experiences are fascinating. Some will find comfort but none will find depth. In many ways, this is like having the whipped cream but not the cake. It is frothy and light. I was expecting a more substance, detailed program for accessing guidance. This is not unlike those inspirational angel blurbs/chicken soup for the soul stories featured in womens magazines--marginally moving, completely forgettable.

I loved Guidance 24/7 because it's so comforting! We all need help. Christel makes it so easy and simple to ask for the guidance you need! You will realize that you are never alone, and divine help is yours for the asking. Christel shows you how to ask for help, how to get over feeling unworthy, how to listen for the answers, and how to be grateful.

This book is a very easy read but you'll want to read it over and over to make sure you get it all. Christel's examples and stories are fascinating! After reading this book, I can see angels in my life, and am much more prayerful for my own needs and others' needs, but also in gratitude for all I've been given. I love this book for its simplicity and integrity.

This is exaclty what you would expect frm a klutz book. Easy to follow concise instructions. Easy instructions and easy to do are not the same thing, this is a very time consuming activity. It takes a bit to get the hang of it and then a good little bit of time to do the entire wrap. Granted my girls have very, very long hair. If the idea looks fun to you then you will like the book.

I have found myself lately in the loop of western conservation literature, and with all the talk of water I really only found one place to go. After coming across Vickers in a state of the world book I looked a bit further until I found the handbook. This book, which is basically a textbook, really answers those burning questions you wanted the answers to. For example, if you find that you have ever wondered exactly how much water low flow toilets save, and the dollars required for replacing them as well as the dollars saved, this book is for you. If you ever considered what the office would be like with waterless urinals, and it's impact on water consumption per person in the office, this book is for you! This book escapes a lot of the chit chat and gets to the answers that you seek. Be warned, this is an academic book with real applications, facts, and statistics that are heavily researched. Don't pick up this book if you want to hear a fairy tale of how a drop of water from one of the poles made it's way to the kitchen sink. Pick up this book if you want to carry on intelligent conversation about water conservation solutions with modern day technology, pick up this book if you want to take that step forward in the home or at the office. There is a lot to be said when it comes to intelligent water usage in a big picture perspective, this book can shed some light on that perspective. It also allows the individual who wants to make a difference at home to look into how to do just that.

Excellent, essential, and practical!

Amy Vickers' Handbook of Water Use and Conservation is for everyone who wishes to survive and prosper in our dehydrated future. A model of excellent content and design, this serious professional book reads like Popular Mechanics because of its easy manner and attractive presentation. Along with essential data on water use, it provides a myriad of water saving measures. It is wonderfully well-illustrated. Sidebars, quotes, and factoids (often humorous) are sprinkled throughout. This is the rare book that has truly universal appeal. Water and landscaping professionals will use it continually. Facility and business managers will find that it slashes water bills. Farmers will use it to make wiser irrigation decisions. Public and college libraries will want a copy for students, instructors, and water-savvy homeowners. There is no better way to get a quick and thorough education about this subject that is critical to our survival. This is the only water book that most people will ever need!

To call Amy Vickers "Handbook of Water Use and Conservation" EXCEPTIONAL would be an understatement! As the Water Conservation Program Director for our town, it has been an invaluable source of information. I reference the book at least a half a dozen times a week and refer to it as my water "Bible." Thorough and very well written, it comprehensively covers residential, landscape, industrial/commercial/institutional, and agricultural water use and efficiency measures. I especially like the case study examples of efficiency measures and savings she references. In addition, the book provides a plethora of additional sources and organizations to contact for more information. Although relevant to all sectors (e.g., homeowners, industry, etc.), the book is a MUST for all water utilities and conservation professional's reference library. As a water utility and/or a professional in the water conservation field, to not own this book would be a disservice to yourself and your trade.

An interesting, comprehensive guide

This excellent book would be a useful guide for homeowners and water professionals alike. It provides a wealth of technical information about conserving water for homes, landscapes, industry, and agriculture. A casual homeowner interested in minor changes to conserve water may find this book to be too technical, but a committed homeowner who is interested in comprehensive indoor and outdoor water conservation will find that this book contains all the information necessary to implement a conservation program. In addition to being an outstanding technical reference, this book is actually *interesting* to read. The text is clearly written with excellent photographs, and is peppered with relevant quotes and facts. Amy Vickers' book belongs on the shelf of every person interested in water conservation.

This is a good book for my 4th grade son. It is hard to find books on his reading level that hold his interest. The narator of the story is Hank the cowdog (also self proclaimed head of ranch security). The chapters are only 3 or 4 pages and give my son a sense of accomplishment for being able to read a couple of chapters each night.
Hank also has a few pronuciation problems, allowing the young reader to identify correct pronunciation and grammer. The stories are interesting and funny and have really improved my son's interest in reading as well as his grades in reading and language skills.

Hank is a simple story, probably good for 8-12 year olds, but it is quite well done. The author does not glorify Hank. He shows his strengh and weaknesses in a well balanced way so that we see Hank's arrogance, stupidity, good-heartedness, "dog-heartedness," his judgement and misjudgements of the world, all coming together in a nice, sweet story.

I particularly like the humor in the book. A couple of examples:

1. Hank is mindful of his hygiene. He takes baths regularly in the septic tank.

2. When Hank goes exploring and needs a place to spend the night, he says,

"I started looking for a place to hole up. In my travels and research I've discovered that one of the best places to hole up for the night is in a hole, so I started hunting for a hole."

What would Henry think?

Review Date: 2007-12-29
Ok, let me start off by saying that this book is a very important book in my family. Im 21, but this book is one of my first memories. I remember so well seeing my parents reading it, (probally multiple times) and seeing it at my grandfather's house. I never knew what the book was about, I just knew that "The Henry book" was a big deal. In fact, my Grandfather loved the book so much, he bought an entire box of it one time to give out to friends and family. I heard it was a difficult book to get, but Amazon popped up, and is ready and avalible.
I really debated to give this book a 3 or a 4. I wish I could give it a 3.5. I really liked where the book was going. Kind of a "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" for adults. Poor Henry. He kept giving the mouse (society) cookies, when he didn't have enough to give in the first place. I know, I sound like I have been watching too much Billy Madison but it was the best comparison I could think of. This book is a great vacation read. It took me about a late afternoon and a 2 hour car ride to read. Read it before you go on vacation with someone who has read it. Because it will be a big old laugh when you quote, "I wouldn't want you to miss out on the good life." through out your vacation.
I really don't know how to review this book. Parts of it I loved and parts of it I hated. I really didn't know where the author was going at the end. I didn't know that this book was going to go into the end times when I started it off. I relize that the Bible warns us that the Lord will come while we are all distracted, but I was just confused how it pretained to Henry. I guess was warning us not to get so caught up in it all that we forget about the Lord. I only skimmed the end honestly because I felt like the author was coming off like he was better then me. That's an awful thing of me to say, and maybe it's the stubborness coming out in me, but really. I mean, does he really think we are so weak, that we will fall to the evil ways of a credit card? I think it's a book you need to read more than once. I still suggest it.

This book was loaned to me by a friend. I started reading it and could not stop. It was telling the story of my life in a different way. Henry knew the good life and thought progress was going to give him a better life. He had to give up the things dearest to him. Time with the family went by the wayside. A valuable lesson for people who are trying to get ahead. This book posessed me to quit my 12 hour, sometimes 6 day a week job of 17 years. I now make less money, but I also have time off to be with my family. My priorties are now in order and I am happy. I am now like Henry was in the beginning of the book. Sometimes we don't know what happiness is. Money isn't everything and debt will ruin you is some things I personally gleaned out of this book. I strongly recommend it to college age and over.

Henry is me! Not that I ever had it as good as he did to start, but I bought the lies that our great society hangs in our faces like that nice juicy bunch of fresh carrotts....theres nothing wrong with carrotts is there? I have read this little book a dozen times and each time I do it makes me stop and take stock. This is a must own, buy a bunch and give them to people who you truly care about.

I purchased this book for my daughter when she was two. It was one of her absolute favorite books. She is now six and still asks us to read it to her once in awhile. My son is four and he loves it! It is such a great book and the illustrations are wonderful!

My 18 month old daughter loves this story and so do I. It's such a sweet bedtime story that I love to read it to her. She's really into animals so this story is great for her since it focuses on animals getting ready to go to sleep. I always love to cuddle and give her lots of kisses throughout the story.

This book should be in every toddlers collection. Counting, rhyming, and animals, can't get much better than that! After counting to ten with animals, a girl says she want 100 kisses, one in each curl. A boy tells his mom he wants a million, then it asks how many kisses do you (your child) want tonight. My daughter loves to tell me, and then get her number of kisses!

This changed my marriage

It's been four years since I read, studied and applied the concepts in this book. My 'porcupine' did not read the book and I didn't discuss anything I learned with him. I was amazed that the changes I made and the loving respectful actions I learned to take eventually virtually eliminated behaviors in him I was sure would never change. Our relationship changed from being frequently painful to being mostly congenial. I've never seen anything remotely similar to this described anywhere else. This goes beyond helping with dealing with criticism into a handbook for dealing with and eliminating verbally abusive behaviors, as well as defining when and how to leave if that is needed.

I highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with those who are painful to interact with, as well as those who might suspect they are hard to deal with.

Ouch! It's kinda painful to read this book!

I read this book, thinking I had people in my life that would fit the description of porcupines, and that I could pick up a few pointers on how to handle them. Imagine my horror and dismay when I discovered that I'M a porcupine!!! That is, I have a goodly number of the characteristics that the author uses to define porcupine behavior. I was stunned to see that many qualities that I saw in myself as being "helpful" to people are in fact toxic and painful. When I looked at these traits from the point of view of "would I want someone to treat ME that way?" the answer was a definite "No." *sigh* Thus, reading the book became one of the most painful experiences of my life. Now I have to say that I think that I'm one of the nicest porcupines you'll ever meet. Nonetheless, I saw traits in myself that need to be changed. Mr. Lund gives you steps to take if you want to eliminate these behaviors, and it has been my daunting task to work on this ever since. It took me about three years (!!!!! NO, I'm not kidding) to complete the assignment of going through one twenty-four day without saying anything negative at all. Try it before you roll your eyeballs into next week. It's (MUCH) harder than you think. I'm not sure a truly toxic person could take this book. But it does give good strategy suggestions for protecting yourself from such people.

All I can say is good luck.

This book is great when dealing with all kinds of personalities. But what I liked most was being able to identify and cope with the different types. And yes even finding that there were tough to love spots in my reflection. Really a good book for relating to parents, children, spouses and self and anyone you have a close working relationship with.

I read this book to help me deal with my very toxic MIL and it has helped me immensely! I highly recommend it for anyone seeking sanity from a highly critical or "toxic" person in your life. John's humor and down-to-earth approach makes this book very easy and enjoyable to read.
