"If Dave Reagan liked it, I knew it must be pretty good"Review Date: 2006-10-14
I am a lifelong listener to "Lamb & Lion Ministry" and Dr. David Reagan. When I heard him mention that he liked this little book, since he knows Revelation better than just about anybody, I knew I really ought to read it.
I have studied Revelation all my life, so I can't say I learned a whole lot. I must say I never heard about the secret message in the order of the 12 tribal names (which gave me goosebumps!), but for anyone who is new to Revelation, I will assure you this book is solid.
As a few other said, the way it is organized is the strong suite of this book. If you just want to see how Revelation 'pictures' Christ--read that. If you just want practical daily application, you can just read 'backpack for the journey'. If you only want to learn the terms, you can just do that in each chapter. I love this organization.
I guess what I like the best was how ALL the chapter pictures of Jesus in each chapter form one final message to all His children at the end of Revelation. This shows how AWESOME our God is in the way He reveals secret information for those who know where to look. This makes all the 'Bible code' stuff look pale in comparison.
I would say anyone 15 and older will find this very, very helpful if you are just getting into Revelation. This won't be the last book on it you'll want to read, but it might be your best FIRST one.
"The last book you'll ever need to figure out the last Book in the Bible!"Review Date: 2006-08-21
I was always afraid of Revelation. But when my Sunday School class decided to study it, we realized there aren't many SIMPLE books available for those of us who just want to know what it means minus all the jargon and a hundred points of view.
I came across this book online, but didn't recognize from the title that it was on Revelation. Guess that pretty much shows you how much I knew about the last Book in the Bible, huh?
Anyhow, when I noticed how small it was, and that it was written for teenagers (I'm not one, but my understanding is), I decided to give this book a try.
Let me say that this wonderful little book is perfect for people like me. Every passage in Revelation is explained very simply using the Old Testament to give a sound and solid interpretation.
Every chapter is broken down into 'bite-size' sections explaining the key: words, themes, focus on Jesus, and lessons to take with you. The focus on Jesus sections are alone worth what I paid for the book! Wonderful! Even the hard words are explained very simply, and everything is tied into what's going on in the world today. My favorite chapter has to be 'One Cool Kingdom to Come'. I had never considered what the world would be like after the Second Coming.
Let me say that if you want a very simple, very complete, and up to date explanation of the Book of Revelation, that a teenager, new Christian, or mature adult who is just studying the Book can understand, "Dragons, Grasshoppers & Frogs!" is absolutely perfect. You can read it through in a couple of hours, but you will find yourself thinking about what it says for a long, long time.
"A smashing success....absolutely fascinating!" (Revised review by Dr. David Reagan, 'Lamplighter Magazine', Nov. 2006)Review Date: 2006-11-05
Jerry Parks may have a doctorate in theology, but it has not made him intellectually stuffy, or rendered him incapable of communicating effectively with young people. His commentary on the book of Revelation entitled "Dragons, Grasshoppers & Frogs!" was designed to communicate with teens, and it is a smashing success!
I was absolutely fascinated by the book. When I started reading it, I just could not put it down. I was shouting `Halleluiah' by the end of the very first chapter! Dr. Parks is obviously a person who really knows and understands Bible prophecy in general, and the book of Revelation in particular. And, he has been blessed with formidable communication skills.
When I wrote to Dr. Parks to congratulate him on the book, I asked him how he had come up with the idea of writing hit. He replied: "The idea came from my 7th grade, after-school prayer group. They wanted to learn Revelation. To write a handbook simple enough for teens to 'wade' across, and yet thorough enough for new Christians to learn from, was a daunting task."
Dr. Parks is a middle school teacher in Lexington, Kentucky, where he teaches at Southland Christian Church
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
"Really well-organized, simply explained, and makes Revelation easy to learn even for me!"Review Date: 2006-08-22
The first thing you notice is how user-friendly it is organized--so easy to read. Even with the whole text of Revelation included, this book can be read in a couple of hours.
The next nice thing is that all the 'portraits' of Jesus in Revelation are explained in their own sections. Though I am no expert in Revelation, I appreciated how much the emphasis is on Jesus.
One more thing I liked is the "Backpack for the road" sections in each chapter. These give PRACTICAL suggestions we can use everyday. I never realized Revelation could be so practical.
I guess you can tell I liked this book. It is really PERFECT for new Christians and younger Christians (probably not younger than high school) who really want to study this book. I will use it to teach my Sunday School Class.
Oh yes. You may be wondering how my daughter liked it. She never got it!
"This little handbook is the finest short work on Revelation I've ever read. Loved it!"Review Date: 2006-09-06
I am not a teenager or new Christian--the target audience for this book. I also thought I knew the Book of Revelation pretty well, having studied about the Millennium, the Rapture, and the Second Coming for many (many) years.
So why did I get this book? Partly because if Dave Reagan liked it (see his comment) it must be pretty good (I love 'Lamb & Lion' ministry), but mostly because I so loved the author's other work: "With Joseph in the University of Adversity". But, I soon discovered this book on Revelation is a completely different style. It's also the finest short work on Revelation I've ever read.
I can't add much to what others have said. The winning points of this book are:
*It's simple enough for a 'newbie' but deep enough to teach us all. (The 'message' in the list of 12 tribes is awesome! Never heard that before!)
*It's got a lot of really PRACTICAL things for everyday life. Most Revelation books just explain the verses.
*It's short enough to make an easy-read, but still contains every verse of Revelation and wonderfully organized content.
*It's lightly illustrated (OK, I like this kind of stuff, so there!)
*It's got a primary focus on Jesus Christ--not just as the coming Messiah, but as Revelation pictures Him in SO many ways. This is almost a 'life of Christ' picking up after the Gospels.
This book would make a great handbook (that's what it is) for group bible study, or gift to a young person who is interested in Revelation. HOWEVER, I do think young teenagers might find even this simple book too much. You have to understand some bible to appreciate it, but that's why Revelation is the last book in the bible anyway, don't you think?

Hold on to your...socks!Review Date: 2006-12-01
I couldn't put these books down. They will have to be pried out of my cold, dead hands before I give them up. I operated on just a couple of cylinders for a few days, thanks to staying up all night two nights in a row, reading them. Readers, beware! Before you sit down to read them, make sure you have meals pre-cooked & your laundry caught up. You'll need to call in sick to work, too :-). Homeschoolers - might as well give your kids the day off - you won't be in any shape or mood to teach!
Our Traditional priest went nuts over them, too, and HE operated on fewer cylinders than normal for awhile, the poor dear. These books are just...well, in Father's words: "PERFECT!" "Treasures!" and so on... He will be carrying them in his little Catholic book store.
Mr. Biersach is a FIRST-RATE story teller! "Move over, Rice" my foot (ala Mr. Rose). Move over, TOLKIEN, is more like it. Rose may've pegged the genre rightly, but the comparison between Bill's writing and Rice's is an insult to Biersach. I know, because I've read Rice.
The Endless Knot (TEK) and The Darkness Did Not (TDDN) books have incredible, intricate plots-within-plots, combined with characters so perfectly fleshed-out that I felt I knew them personally and by sight, long before I half-finished The Endless Knot.
This, combined with wondrous Traditional Catholic knowledge that I thought had been lost forever, and it's all wrapped up in ONE book! Well, two actually (TDDN being the 2nd offering). As Amazon doesn't carry all 4 books, they can all be ordered at TumblarHouse.com.

A Rip Roaring Murder Mystery for Traditional Catholics.Review Date: 2006-01-16
In "The Endless KNot" we are introduced to Father John Baptist Lombard, a former LAPD Homicide Detective turned Latin Mass priest. Lombard's stance has made him the mortal enemy of LA's vindictively liberal Archbishop, Morley Psalmellus Fulbright. Fulbright is so far gone that he considers death to be "an expansion of mind" and promotes Neo Pagans and radical feminists to high positions in his Arch-Diocese. Lombard is assisted by Martin Feeney, the arthritic gardener at St. Philomena's Traditonal Catholic Church. When Fulbright's cronies start getting knocked off one by one, the Archbishop has no choice but to order his most despised priest to get to the bottom of the murders. With the help (and hindrance) of Feeney and the cops he once trained, Father John Baptist goes on the trail of one of the most bizarre serial killers in US history. Along the way, William Biersach irreverently skewers the highly liberalized institution that the Catholic Church has become. As well as dragging Wicca, Neo Paganism, and Voodoo over hot coals. At one moment the reader is on the edge of their seat with suspense, at another they will split their sides with laughter. In closing William Biersach deserves a 26 gun salute. In addition, I should be very much interested to see Mel Gibson sponsor this book for PBS's "Mystery!"

A very happy surpriseReview Date: 2005-06-11
The mystery is complex. The characters are very good. Father John Baptist is calm amidst the whirlwind, whip smart and doesn't mind offending people if it means hiding the truth. His Watson, Martin the gardner, altar server, assistant cook, driver and leg man (despite a nasty case of arthritis) is loud mouthed, cranky as as wolverine and devoted to Father Sherlock. He's also a smart guy in his own right. The other characters, the hard drinking, party loving Knights of the Tumblar function as Father Baptist's Baker Street Irregulars. The cops are nicely written and so are the colorful, fiesty and sometimes crazy group of folks who make up Father Baptist's parish.
The villains are well done too and their particular vices were timely. About ten years ago I would've thought there was no way such people could exist in their positions. Today, nothing shocks me.
Endless Knot is a mystery in the Arthur Conan Doyle/Agatha Christie mold but it ends with a bittersweet note. The killer is caught but not without cost to the detectives. I'm off to find the next book in the series.

And the story escalates...Review Date: 2008-04-13
Mr. Stephen has proven himself adept at weaving an engaging and exciting story that is difficult to put down for fans of any genre.
Unfortunately, now I have to wait for the next book, but some things are worth the wait.
Better than the first, one of the best I've ever read - sincerely.Review Date: 2008-02-21
Mr Stephen's ability to force your own emotions out into the open WHILE reading is noteworthy. The book challenges your own beliefs, imagination and decision-making process. You're forced to empathize witht he protagonist, and you learn that the antagonist is more than you initially imagined. The depth of the characters is exposed, and it's impressive.
From the military terminology, the chain of command, the strategery to the specifics of each culture personified - this book hits on all cylindars.
Incredible read. You'll be salivating with each page and left feeling lonely at the end - waiting for book 3.
Very well done, Mr. Stephen!
Not afraid to ask tough questions...Review Date: 2008-02-03
Lee Stephen has outdone himself with this excellent work. The hero of Dawn of Destiny, Scott Remington, continues his journey as a soldier of EDEN defending the Earth against alien aggression. Written in a straightforward, comprehensible style, Stephen uses his the Epic Universe as a sandbox to explore the dark side in all of us. I'm loath to say much about the plot of the book, lest I give away an ending that is as rewarding as it is surprising, but trust me when I say that it is worth every page turned.
Remington is still stationed in Siberia; the EDEN base there is still firmly in the grip of General Thoor and the Nightmen. Although their ferocity in battle and their ability to repulse alien attackers is unmatched, all is not well. The leaders of EDEN come together to try unconver a conspiracy surrounding the disposition of troops and material in Siberia (adding a nice, political element to the story that was somewhat missing in Dawn of Destiny), leaving Remington in the center of future action there.
Once again Stephen is unapologetic in his use of Providence in determining the course of an individual's life. The themes of faith, redemption, and righteousness run deeply throughout both novels in the Epic Universe, but never in such a way as to be misplaced within the worldview of the characters. In fact, Stephen's touch with these themes is surprisingly deft given the readable style. The questions he raises are both deep and visceral, leaving me questioning my own reactions if I were in a situation similar to the characters. Real strength is shown by doing what is right; refusing to listen to the dictates of conscience has its own rewards...or punishments. It is exceedingly rare that military science fiction is this thought provoking, but Stephen has delivered in spades.
The only problem that I have now is that I have to wait for Book 3.
Outlaw Trigger book reviewReview Date: 2008-01-26
Scotts life is badly damaged in the early stages of the book, when something traumatic happens at a time and place no one would expect. From then on out, his faith in God weakens, and he plunges into a depression that ultimately leads to a shocking end. Many of the old characters are involved as well, and more than one may not make it to the end of the novel alive. Bonds and enemies are made, and destroyed, and the bleaker and more uncertain side of all of Unit 14 begins to show. Will they comeback from this low, or will Scott and all of Unit 14 break up and fall into chaos? The overall storyline of Epic is beginning to move now, and I for one eagerly await to find out where it's going.
Many of the old characters are back, and some new ones as well. Everyone is still fun to read about, and there is even some new info about a few of the characters. Outlaw Trigger is as enjoyable as Dawn of Destiny, and I can't wait to see where the story goes from here.

A Terrific Book --- Historically Accurate & Action Packed !!!Review Date: 2008-09-12
"Fighting to Leave -- The Final Years of America's War in Vietnam, 1972-1973" covers the Vietnam War during 1972-73, the tumultuous final years of U.S. involvement, as experienced by Colonel Robert E. Stoffe, a Marine Corps aviator who served three combat tours in Vietnam. During his first two tours, 1965-1966 and 1969-1970, Colonel Stoffey flew 440 combat missions out of Da Nang and Marble Mountain Airfields in South Vietnam and was shot down twice!!!
His third combat tour was aboard the USS Oklahoma City, as the Marine Air Officer and Assistant Amphibious Warfare Officer on the staff of the Commander, Seventh FLeet. The crucial and complex last two years of the war - following the 1971 withdrawl of major ground-fighting units under President Nixon's Vietnamezation policy - are explained from the perspective of the Seventh Fleet, as it floated in the Gulf of Tonkin and South China Sea.
As the South Vietnamese battled for survival, the U.S. Seventh Fleet was a signficant supporting force; the mining of North Vietnam's waterways, concentrated shore bombardments, and air attacks were instrumental in leading to the negotiated end of America's war in Vietnam and the return of our POWs. In the words of General Walter E. Boomer, USMC(Ret.) and former advisor to South Vietnamese Marines, Colonel Stoffey's engaging recollections make "Fighting to Leave" an "Action-Packed Narrative... The only book that wraps up all the complex events that led to the end of our longest war."
I am sure that you will find this book extremely interesting and fascinating. Sure to be a number one seller !!!

Murder on the mind - a killing thoughtReview Date: 2007-10-01
Good All-around Mystery with a TwistReview Date: 2007-09-25
Jeff Resnick is hurt, unemployed, dependent on his brother ... and psychic, apparently the result of his injury. As the mystery of who killed a local banker unfolds, he deals with his own doubts and aversion to his "gift" as well as his brother's and that of the police who must be convinced he just "knows" what happened to the eviscerated victim.
What Barlett does well is avoid some traps common to paranormal mysteries. Jeff is a believable character and neither his brother nor the cop descend to the stereotypical role of non-believers who ignore the evidence before them. Neither does the paranormal element get so "woo-woo" that disbelief can no longer be held at bay. Everyone in the story is real, and I accepted Jeff's ability and sympathized with the fact that he wasn't any happier about believing in it than those around him were.
Jeff as a character is well-rounded, and he grows within the story, learning that some of the things we believe as kids are not quite the way we perceived them. As he recovers from his physical injuries, he takes the first tentative steps toward a new level of maturity, finding that accepting the support of others doesn't make a person weak, and that repayment of that support doesn't have to be by tangible means.
MURDER ON THE MIND was published by Five Star Press but is now in paperback through Worldwide Mystery, available on the eHarlequin website beginning Oct. 1st. It's well worth reading, and one can only hope that there is more to come about Jeff Resnick as he begins his second life with second sight.
Murder on the Mind: psychic or brain damaged sleuth?Review Date: 2008-01-07
A mugging in Manhattan, leaves former insurance investigator Jeff Resnick with broken bones and a fractured skull --- and completely dependent on his rich estranged half brother Dr. Richard Alpert and his girlfriend Brenda Stanley. Visions of a hunt and and a hunter stalking his deer prey terrify Jeff. The doctors diagnose brain damage. Days later, a local banker is found dead, his murder eerily similar to the details of Jeff's nightmares. Jeff believes the attack has left him with a sixth sense, a psychic ability to see murder before the event. Jeff uses his visions and his investigative skills to try to solve the crime but as he gets closer to the killer, danger arises from all corners. Will the police trust his revelations are due to psychic visions or attribute his knowledge to a more nefarious means? As Jeff becomes closer to his half brother, dangerous past secrets emerge touching his traumatic childhood. Somewhere danger lurks and Jeff must work hard and fast if he doesn't want to become a victim to one of the dark secrets he uncovers.
L.L. Bartlett writes a magnificent mystery! MURDER ON THE MIND mixes an eerie, psychic paranormal element with an investigative hunt for clues and facts, never sacrificing the mystery to an easy resolution. Intriguing twists keep the reader poised at ever page. MURDER ON THE MIND will appeal to a variety of readers from lovers of traditional mysteries to suspense lovers with its ominous, supernatural feel and even beyond these genres as moments of tenderness and fear both move the reader's heart. L.L. Bartlett truly leaves the reader guessing, never quite sure of the murderer's identity as terrifying details mix with an investigative trail more typical of light mysteries. The complicated psychological battle between Jeff and his brother might turn either way. With possible brain damage in play, is Jeff a reliable first person narrator? Will past secrets come to light to add another twist to this murder mystery? L.L. Bartlett's fine writing keeps the pages turning with eager anticipation until the very end.
A Fascinating "Mind"-setReview Date: 2006-04-01
Adjusting to life back in Buffalo is difficult. Not only does Jeff have to come to terms with being dependent on someone for help, he has to recover from the skull fracture he sustained in the attack. And there is the matter of the vivid mental images he keeps having - images of the victim of a savage murder, the overwhelming feelings of the murderer and those of a terrified witness to the crime.
Seeing Jeff come to terms with the surprising new circumstances of his life, including the new "ability" his injury seems to have awakened is what propels Murder on the Mind and takes the reader on Jeff's often harrowing journey. L.L. Bartlett's clear, taut prose keeps the reader wanting to know more as the tale unfolds and the core truths are revealed about the murder, the murderer and Jeff's new-found insight. Bartlett also leaves a few intriguing questions unanswered, begging more tales of Jeff, Richard and the wonderfully-drawn supporting characters in the book.
I highly recommend Murder on the Mind, a fast-paced and original mystery with an unexpected setting and a very unconventional investigator. I look forward seeing more of Jeff Resnick and the environs around Buffalo, New York very soon!
