I found this book to be very balanced and extremely informative. A fascinating look at America's so-called "culture wars." A must read for anyone, on either side, who wonders "what's wrong with you people?!"

This book deserves to be on the bookshelves of everyone calling themselves politically educated. Kennedy examines the role of religion in the shaping of American politics and its effects upon the public discussion thereof with much more light than heat. It is not a polemic. It is the voice of reason in a land of shouters. It offers a solution for people of varied beliefs and backgrounds on how to get along with each other despite our differences. She offers specific methods of reaching a rational political consensus in our multicultural society. Highly recommended.

Five Stars: Scholarly, Comprehensive, Insightful and Superbly Good Read. August 23, 2001. Reviewer: K. L. Mehra, Former Director & Expert F.A.O., Rome, Italy.

This book is a must read for students and professionals alike, and others with interest in hominid / human skeleton remains and the information these remains hold for understanding the biological history and diversity of South Asias people. Kenneth A.R. Kennedy sets forth to test the validity of some hypothesis that emerged from the interpretation of such findings. After presenting precise accounts of different viewpoints, Kennedy provides an unbiased fresh insight based on his interdisciplinary approach, integrating archaeological, geological, linguistic, fossil, and historical evidences. It contains a balanced and scholarly treatment of the latest methods used in skeleton biological analysis. The book should become a model reference work for understanding paleoanthropology of a single region. The major merit of authors approach has been a critical presentation of European concepts of human origins, biological diversity, and pre-historic life ways, and to appraise the reader about how those concepts were superimposed upon more native traditions, which addressed many of the same questions but from within an entirely distinctive cultural context and perceptions. Kennedy provides sufficient supportive evidences, which suggest that there was no abrupt transition or mass migration of food- producing new races into the hunting territories of longer settled people in South Asia. Faunal and floral evidences from certain sites in Rajasthan and the Ganges valley suggest incipient practices of plant and animal domestication among Mesolithic groups. Emergence of food production strategies was a gradual transition that took place in different localities at different times. Kennedy discusses paleodemographic and anatomical data, which points out that the participants in the mature phase of Harappan civilization were not a mysterious people of unknown biological origins, or migrants from other centers of high culture in western Asia, but were descendants of populations identified with the pre-Harappan cultures of northwestern sector of the sub-continent. Kennedy argues that Indian three-race concept paradigm about caste (including the status of Aryan lineage) and a western argument, favoring demic migrations, is not tenable. Professionals of different disciplines, students, and even lay people alike will all find something thought- provoking in this book. Very highly recommended.

Back in 1997 I met a fed. prisoner while "visiting" someone in ND Stae prison. Mr Watson was holding the book and told me he had info fingering some mob figures in the page range of the 70's in the book. The following Monday I went to the book store on main street in Minot, ND and asked to order the book. The elderly woman gasped and said "well isn't that odd?" I asked what was odd? She said the previous Friday the publisher bought back every copy in print! A few months later I found mr Watsons number in Atlanta and called. I spoke with his mother and he had gotton out ant after returning to Atlanta was run over by a car and killed "by accident". The book was reprinted minus his information! Makes you wonder? Get a first printing!

Old school dating rules!

Review Date: 2007-10-10
While this book is aimed mostly at women, guys like me can gain a lot of insight by reading it. Now, for those guys who are just looking to score, this book is like kryptonite. But if you are looking for how to start, build, and maintain a long-term, loving relationship, then here's the instruction manual. It reminds me of how dating and courtship used to be, when people you went out with weren't another disposable commodity you found on the Internet. As to whether or not it actually works, I'll have to get back to you; I am currently giving it a try, and I have high hopes that I have finally found the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. Wish me luck...

If you are a single woman, read this book!

This book is a must read for all single women. Heartbreak-Free Dating reveals what women have known instinctively but have tried to deny: We crave long-term committed relationships and are not satisfied with superficial flings. Try as we might to fit into the
"boy's club" we cannot simply turn off our emotions and separate love from sex.
We deserve to be loved and respected. If you are a single woman who is tired of the dating scene and ready to meet your soul mate, this book is for you.

Nonstop laughs for real women

Review Date: 2002-03-01
This book helped me put a modern perspective on being a Christian woman, all the while making me laugh at some of the attempts at striving to be the "Proverbs Woman." Between all the laughter, though, there were epiphanies that remind us that we are still human and will sometimes fall short. But if we keep God number one in our lives, He will reward us. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who tries hard with good intentions only to have them turn out disasters!

From the minute I picked up this book, my mouth hurt from laughing so hard. And what a great outreach tool! My laughter at the pool (while on vacation) brought many people to me to ask what I was reading - I was able to tell them about this wonderful account of motherhood/wifehood/womanhood, and open up a discussion about faith, God, Christianity, and how it all relates to everyday foibles.

A must read for new agents

Review Date: 1998-08-03
This book is the ideal way to learn from someone else's experience. Because of the nature of the business, not many agents are willing to share what works for them. This book details how to approach all types of real estate opportunities and turn them into money making transactions. Danielle Kennedy is honest enough to let the new agent know that there may be 100 disappointments for every one successful contact; an approach that encourages the agent to keep going when prospects look dim.

Being new to Real Estate I needed a book that gave me the A-Z for being the best I could be in this industry right away. This book delivers. If you are new to Real Estate Sales or you have been in the business for a while, this book will give you all the tools necessary to get your business off to a quick start. You will need a yellow marker for this one and you'll probably highlight ideas of every page, because there is so much useful information. At the end of the book is an action plan to take you to "Breakaway". 21 days on this plan and you'll feel confident with Buyers and Sellers, not to mention all the friends you meet along the way. These opinions and words are not mine... I am nearly transcribing a paragraph of text for an associate and those words are a Quote and Un-Quote from the person that has asked for their name to be withheld.

Quote

"One of the latest JFK books to hit the market by Pamela Ray and James Files, Interview With History, conjures up memories from old conversations. With me being from a law enforcement family and following in their foot steps, and hearing first hand about mob hits and all the rumors that go with them, often spoke of in my circle, I found the book to be an entertaining read and it not only confirms, but also ties things together nicely and this is what Mafia folklore is made of." "I have known James Files for many many years."

Fresh look at contrasts between Regency English and Irish.
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-08
When it was discovered that young Patrick O'Fallon inherited a vast fortune from his grandfather, his older sister Evleen wanted to accompany him on the journey to England. While in England, Evleen takes a liking to Lord Thomas Alberdsley, son of the Marquess of Wythe. The older man, however, objected to a marriage between the couple, simply because Evleen was Irish. Shirley Kennedy's very descriptive, evocative writing is a refreshing look at the contrasts of English and Irish lifestyles of the Regency era. It is also very nice to see a strong willed Irish heroine who defies stereotypes among the backdrop of London society and the personalities of her own country.

Shirley Kennedy has not failed us in her newest novel,The Irish Upstart. As with her other books The Rebellious Twin and The Selfless Sister she has once again given us a winner. The Irish Upstart has humor, charm, and greed woven into a heartbreaking family story. One of Shirley Kennedy's talents lies in the development of her characters. She makes each character come alive in this book.Evleen, the oldest daughter,is a true Irish upstart. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to Ms. Kennedy's next adventure in writing.
