This little gem is totally enjoyable. It's one of those fun finds that is actually as entertaining for the parents as it is for the kids. The pictures are hysterical and the story is totally comical. As a person who constantly harassed my father growing up to "come get rid of the spider for me!", it was really humorous to see that apparently I wasn't the only one afraid of creepy crawlies in the shower.

My mom picked this up for her grandson (my son) over the holidays - a totally random purchase. And it is by far one of the cutest books on his bookshelf. Love it.

Young and Koopsen have caught the essence of the diversity of the many cultural approaches to health and healing. As a physician trained in the Western Tradition of medicine, this book offerd to me a more perceptive approach to the understanding of my patient's views of their own health. I learned for the first time the difference between "healing" and "curing". Although this outstanding book is primarily a teaching text, I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the unique perspective that this book offers. R. O'Neil MD

Sports Law gives a great understanding of issues facing today's athletes. Michael Jones takes complex legal cases and breaks them down into easy-to-understand ideas.

This book is ideal for University Sports Law courses, because of its scholarly layout; each chapter begins with a lawsuit, which is then broken down into relevant case law and highlights important facts of each subject. The reader is then given pertinent review questions and Internet sites for further thought and discussion. I enjoyed the appendixes where he had actual contracts and rules that athletes must abide by.

This book was fun to read as a sports law student and an avid sports fan.

The best book on sports and law I have ever read. Michael Jones has truly outdone himself and is a great compliment to the world of education. His approach covers every aspect of sports and the law. This is pretty hard to do considering that sports change everyday and so do the stories surrounding them. I feel that I have a true understanding of how athletics operate; not just in this country, but globally! Good Job!

A must read for those interested in sports law.

Name the sports law area, and you'll find it in this book: contract negotiation, constitutional issues, team doctor malpractice, and much, much more. Don't let its "survey" nature fool you. Sports Law provides in-depth analysis of the key area of sports law. Each chapter in Sports Law begins with a "case study," which the author uses to bring the black letter law alive! Also, each chapter is chock-full of examples to illustrate difficult points. This book will appeal to all who are interested in sports, ranging from law students to sports enthusiasts. For example, Jones' insight into player/agent negotiation is something that every sports fan will enjoy. In addition to outstanding written matter, Jones provides real world examples of player contracts, and even gives readers reference materials, such as sports law websites for each topic. Finally, the layout of the book is superb: the index is comprehensive (another plus for students) and each chapter highlights thought provoking considerations of key points. Kudos to Michael Jones! This book truly stands alone and brings this muddled area of law into sharp focus. Others in this field should follow Jones' lead by balancing the academic with the practical. It makes for an informative yet enjoyable reading experience! Whether you're a student, lawyer, or sports fan, this book should rank high on your list of must reads and must haves!

There are several BJU histories on the market. Satnding Without Apology is by far the best. While written by an insider it gives a balanced and thorough history of the school. It does an excellent job of allowing the reader to understand the cultural and spiritual forces which lead to the establishment of this unique University and which molded the school. Further, it gives a real feel of the Personalities (Bob Jones Sr., Bob Jones Jr. and Bob Jones III) which have lead the school for almost 80 years. Unlike, some other histories on the market Standing Without Apology gives the information and allows the reader to draw their own conclusions.

Most meticulously documented detail -- hands down.

Big changes for Christy.

Review Date: 2007-06-01
Christy Miller finally feels like she's growing up. But her new responsibilities make her wish she wasn't. In STARRY NIGHT, the eighth book in Robin Jones Gunn's Christy Miller series, not only does she have a job monopolizing most of her time, but her new freedom to date is also causing its own share of problems. Christy is upset that she ended things so badly with ex-boyfriend Rick. When he comes back from college to visit her, she hopes to put their rocky past behind them.

However, Rick seems less interested in making amends with Christy and more interested in spending time with Katie, her best friend. Katie has long warned Christy about falling under the dangerous spell of Rick's charm, but now she seems to be doing it herself. Christy's old "beach friends" have made lots of plans for Christmas break, but with work and a surprise trip with her family, Christy is forced to miss out. Things only get worse when Katie begins tagging along with Christy's friends --- without Christy.

Christy becomes increasingly jealous as Katie and Rick start spending more and more time together. Meanwhile, Christy is forced to spend most of her winter break at a mountain cabin with her Aunt Marti and Uncle Bob --- not exactly her idea of a good time. Over the holiday, Uncle Bob asks some tough questions that challenge the faith Christy once thought was so solid.

However, things begin to look up when Christy's parents surprisingly agree to let her attend the Rose Bowl Parade with her friends. She remembers watching it on TV as a little girl in Wisconsin and can't wait to become a true Californian and experience it firsthand. At the parade, Christy can't help but wonder when she will see romantic interest Todd again; he left to join the pro surfing tour, leaving many unanswered questions about their relationship.

As the book comes to a close, Katie discovers some unpleasant things about Rick that lead her to wonder if she really was right about him all along. Will it be in time to save her fractured friendship? Even more drama is in store as a surprise appearance from an old friend means big changes for Christy.

In STARRY NIGHT, Gunn once again manages to avoid the usual clichés of teen fiction and gives young readers an engrossing and often unpredictable story. Fans of the series will enjoy the new plot twists and character development, and most likely will be refreshed to see some long-present drama come to a close. The book's ending, as typical of the series, leaves much to be anticipated in upcoming installments.

In Street Legends, Author/Journalist Seth Ferranti chronicles the criminal careers of six gangsters: Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, Wayne "Silk" Perry, Anthony Jones, Aaron Jones, Peter "Pistol Pete" Rollack, and George "Boy George" Rivera. Cocaine, heroin, customized luxury cars, jewelry and murder filled their way of life. Street Legends paints an exhaustive portrait of the criminal lives these legends lived and guides readers through their childhood activities, attraction to the life of crime and ultimately, their demise.

Ferranti eloquently pulls readers into the trenches from which these men surfaced and through testimonials and interviews, brings each reader to the underworld in which these street lords thrived.

Ferranti explores the lives of men like, Peter "Pistol Pete" Rollack, a product of the Soundview section of The Bronx, who was known for his ruthless killings. Before his fall, Pistol Pete made millions of dollars in the drug game and became the founding member of the Sex, Money, Murder east coast blood set, after being recruited while on Riker's Island (directly by "O.G. Mack" the founder of the first east coast blood set: Nine Trey Gangsta) for the murder of Karlton Hines.

Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, the pale, green-eyed, intellectual was characterized as a gentlemen and gangster. Word on the street says he kept his watch 55 minutes fast so he would always be on time. Ethan Brown, author of Queens Reigns Supreme and Snitch, had this to say about him, "He's incredibly intelligent and aware of what's going on in the world." McGriff eventually developed ties with Irv Gotti, the man behind Hip Hop artists JaRule and Ashanti, and the co-founder of Murder Inc. But exactly what would drive a person back to the streets after establishing chief relationships with movers and shakers of key industries?

George Rivera, better known as "Boy George," has been idolized for his infiltration into the drug world with his potent "obsession" brand; a trap start before the term was even invented. Boy George took over the streets of New York and eventually became the youngest male sentenced to natural life. Wiretaps, informants and surveillance photos led the way for authorities to put Mr. Rivera away forever. Boy George had already made millions of dollars by the time he was 23 years of age.

Although each of the six men documented in Mr. Ferranti's Street Legends amassed their glory and street fame via different routes one thing ties them together: A sentence of life in prison. So, does crime really pay? Find out in Seth Ferranti's Street Legends.

Even if that dude on the corner won't admit it, he wants to be known. Wants people in the hood to uphold him, feel him and carry his legacy on when his time has come to either serve time, or lay down, `cause the next up and coming hood star has taken his place. But before the baby hoodlums were even conceived, homage has to be paid to those who've not only paved the way, but left their unique marks not only on Queens, Baltimore, D.C. Philly and the Bronx, but the headlines, nightly news and gave voice to many rap artists and pages in books.

I could make it simple and say something like Seth "Soul Man" Ferranti raised the bar, or throw a classic spin and say that `Street Legends' is pure genius. Yet, that still doesn't feel like those words do it justice! `Soul Man' utilizes testimonials, interviews, and court transcripts to lay out precisely how each and every STREET LEGEND, the most feared and ruthless gangsters of our time, came into culmination, their reigns in the streets and subsequently their life sentences. Kenneth `Supreme' McGriff, Wayne `Silk' Perry, Anthony Jones, Aaron Jones, Peter `Pistol Pete' Rollack, and George `Boy George' Rivera understood that in order to be bold enough to play in the game, then they also had to be bold enough to carry the weight that comes with it.

While I've never read a book written by Seth "Soul Man" Ferranti, I've read a few articles published by him at The Urban Book Source and Don Diva, and had no doubt that Seth would provide readers with a perceptive yet discerning voyages into the lives of `Street Legends!'

I definitely recommend `Street Legends' to all, I'm going to also stress nothing in life is guaranteed. Regardless of why they went to the streets, how much money they made, people they bed or love they receive, in this game you'll either succumb to death or prison. So choose wisely!

Seth "Soul Man" Ferranti goes in depth of the rise and fall of six gangsters, Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, Wayne "Silk" Perry, Anthony Jones, Aaron Jones, Peter "Pistol Pete" Rollack, George "Boy George" Rivera. Getting the almighty dollar by any means necessary was there way of life. Nothing is guaranteed in this game but death or prison. Was it worth it? If they could have a chance to do it all over again, would they?

Take a ride with Soul Man as he gather knowledge from interviews, testimonials of how and why did these young men became the epitome of there city. This book profiles each legend during the crack epidemic and how each one is on one accord with the "no snitching" movement during there reign in the streets.

This is my first novel by Mr. Ferranti, and I commend him for doing such a wonderful job with book with accurate points of view on each street legend. This is a must read, especially for our young generation out there in the streets. Simply thought provoking.

All those who are interested in urban legend stories will enjoy Street Legends.

I first got the "Bang, bang!" book and my son loved it. He would spend 10-20 minutes at a time pushing all the animals in and out. After about six months of constant pulling, chewing, and throwing the seam gave in (not bad for a $4 book). I just recently bought the whole series because the first one was so fun and durable.

My 6 month old was recently given this as a gift. I had never seen the series before, but now I'm going to buy all of them. The book is small so babies can easily hold on to it (or it conveniently fits in your baby bag), but more importantly, it's just so cute and charming. It's nice because it teaches babies animal names, but what makes it stand out from other similar books is that it comes full circle coming back to the baby chick's mom. It's one of those books that's fun for parents to read to babies and one babies and toddlers enjoy as well.

My kid loves this book, as well as the others, like Bang Bang and Knock Knock. Every mom who has ever come over to visit at my home has noticed their kids go straight for these books and they have all fallen in love with it, so much that they have immediately gone and bought it for their little toddlers.
My 20 month old, loves the sliding board books and since we began reading these he has learnt to say the names of the animals, and now he reads the book with me. He'll slide the picture out and say the name of the animal hiding, which makes it good fun and very interesting.
It's also a very sturdy and interactive book for the little ones compared to picture and pop-up books, which my little one tends to tear and destroy with a few days.
I highly recommend this book as well as the other's in this series.

Great pocket book of relevant up-to-date information for the office. The book is sized to fit in the heel of your boot so the spies don't get it. Of course, if you're over 45 (as I am), this is a distinct disadvantage as my arms are not long enough to read it. If you don't have your glasses or a magnifying glass, you're screwed. Tarascon has proven they CAN make larger format books and they should consider doing it with this gem. They can label it "Large Print Edition". Braille might be a good idea.

Dec is a great narrator - totally reliable for a teen. The story is short and would probably qualify as "high interest" for lower level or on-level 9th graders. There was a twist or two that I did not see coming, which makes the book a good choice for serious readers as well. The best part about the book, however, is the conglomeration of friends Dec has at school. This is a group of high achievers who consider rationalizing a teacher out of existence, or spending a day without using any words with "O" in them is fun - where do they really come from? I would recommend this book for teachers and students.

Sixteen-year-old Declan Steeple hasn't seen his free-spirited mother Lindy in six years. His father Bernard has moved on with his life, creating a new family with his girlfriend Birdie and Dec's little sister Sunny. Bernard is content with his life in the present while pursuing his hobby building miniature models of famous battles in history. Dec would rather just face the future when he could leave his family's home and perhaps pursue a career in architecture.

Then one day, Dec and Sunny come across the body of a mysterious intruder in Steeple Hall, his father's family home where Dec had spent his early childhood years before Lindy left. Dec briefly met the intruder when he hitched a ride from him a few weeks before and thinks that because he accidentally mentioned a secret road leading to the old house, this prompted the man to take a chance at burglary. When Sunny mentions that a bust of Plato was placed on a side table instead of by the fallen bookshelf where it once sat, Dec begins to think that something far more sinister has taken place.

The mysterious death causes Dec to begin having visions of his mother as he remembered her when he was a young child: Lindy being dressed as Wonder Woman, Lindy and Dec playing hide-and-seek with a frustrated Bernard, and Lindy telling a young Dec to rescue her from the manor. The visions are hazy and surreal, making Dec wonder if they are really memories or just dreams. He decides to ask Bernard and Birdie questions about Lindy, but they're unwilling to reveal many details especially as to why Lindy left. Frustrated, Dec seeks refuge in Steeple Hall and confides in his best friend Ezra, a quirky science geek who helps him make sense of the bizarre visions.

As time goes by, Dec slowly pieces together the confusing puzzle of visions. What the puzzle reveals to Dec changes everything he thought he knew once again. There are revelations about his family, Lindy's disappearance, and the mysterious dead intruder. THE THIEF IN THE HOUSE OF MEMORY is a mystery that portrays the complexities of friendships and family, while set against the backdrop of a house harboring mysteries of its own. It's a book that is sure to be pleasantly thought-provoking for readers.

A Thief in the House of Memory is a young adult book that is one of those books that would almost make a better movie. It's an incredibility well written story and follows a teenager who changes his mind about people that he interacts with all the time. Through the way the author wrote the book, my idea of the characters changed as well. Tim Wynne-Jones grabbed my emotions by changing my approach and assumptions of the other characters and himself. It jumps around from the present time to past memories which make the book contrasting but often confusing. It can get confusing at first for a reader so I advise you to read slowly and carefully to follow the book correctly. I did find it very interesting because it was from a teenager's prospective which made it out of the ordinary from books I have read before. I would suggest it to anyone who has time to sit down, have patience, and follow the book!
The book is about a young teenager named Dec who has a lot to live up to. He is a descendent from a long line of famous governors, but his father, Mr. Steeple broke that chain of politics after being abandoned by his wife. This hurt Mr. Steeple as much as it hurt his young son and infant daughter. They had had everything in their life, money, friends, and power, or so they thought. But as we learn though Dec's memories throughout the book, that isn't enough for a family to function. After years of fighting, Lindy, Dec's mother, had had it. She stole a car and ran from her flawless family; she just couldn't stand appearing to be perfect. Leaving a broken family that realized a family can't be bought, it has to be worked for and built on a foundation of trust and love.
