I have enjoyed this series of books. They are an easy read and you can't help but laugh out loud sometimes. I enjoy the words of wisdom that you receive from the book. It is easy to think of the book as a sort of devotional. I have shared the books with my friends. I have just purchased the last two in the series and can't wait to read them. I have the hardback devotional book that goes along with the Sisterchick books and it is very good also.

A great Christian fiction book. It is so much fun to live through this pair of sisterchicks! It is about two best friends going on an adventure and then, learning more and more about themselves. No one goes home the same! It is fun but also thought provoking!

In the first book summer promise i was so confused. First of all who is this jebuth guy everybody talk about? And what the heck is a bibble?when christy goes to California she is the laughing stock of the beach bums. first she gets insulted by beach bums for being a green bean.that was a hoot.then she got the "talk" with aunt marti that she should be more active with the boys if you know what i mean.so aunt marti helps her out by buying her a new wardrobe that is so not childish i give aunt marti a two thumbs up.my question for this book is when she drowns does she get help from Todd or does he push and take credit the untold story. But lets not forget about meeting alissa. I mean who wouldn't want friend like her. Shes physically active with guys i do mean men. She also drinks and does drugs. Too bad christy wasn't more like her. Then she swims with her and almost of course drowns then todd came to the rescue. Yeah right he was nothing more then a pansy god boy. Then he fellows her to her towel i mean how pathetic. The amazing shawn comes then with alissa. Christy would of been better off with shawn i think. Well anyways Shawn and Alissa go sleep together i mean what a life style. And Christy and todd were alone on a crowded beach. Then they went in the water where christy first met creepy Doug. With a sandwich in one hand then a taco in the another. Crap i have to go pick my kids up from school write more later

I started the series when a friend let me read the first one way back when and I have been addicted ever since. I love them. They truly are awesome and I have one more to read which is the last one of the college years. im sad to see the story end. : ( I am buying them all but I only have 4 of them so far. I don't know if I want to read the sierra series because they can't be as good as these and I don't want to be let down. But I will prob read them eventually. Enjoy the books, they rock!

I think every girl in the world should read the Christy Miller series! They're great books! The main character goes through things in her life like insecurities, break-ups, issues in relationships...It has a very personal feel, and I admit I felt like I was going everything she was going through. But yeah...I can't really describe it to do it justice. If you read the series, you'll know what I mean. I definately recommend that you do!!

I was totally sucked in when I read the second book in the Christy Miller series--I knew I had to go back and read the first one and then finish the books. They were awesome! I couldn't wait for the College years to come out, but now I've read them--I wish Mrs. Gunn would write some more so that we could see how Todd and Christy's kids turn out! Looking for more Christy stuff, I found the Sierra Jensen books but was skeptical, thinking, "yeah she may be friends with Christy, but she's not Christy; and Todd, Doug, Tracy, and Katie aren't on every page anymore. Surely these won't be as good." Wrong! I love Sierra as much as I loved Christy, in a different way. Probably because I can totally identify with Sierra's guy relationships. I have a friend who's just like Paul, and I have "liked" him for 7 years--ever since I was 9! As Sierra says, "what I feel for him is more than a crush. It's something deeper, but I can't explain it." Whoever you are, I guarantee that you will identify with either Christy, Tracy, Katie, Sierra, Amy, or Tawni---and they're all awesome girls who end up with awesome guys. It takes lots of time and problems for some of them, but in the end everything works out. These are books you've gotta read over Spring break, trust me! Get them from the library if you have to. Just do it!

Like all of the other reviewers, I'd have to say this book was great. It was funny, had great romance. So you're probably wondering why I only gave it 3 stars. I didn't agree with all of the beliefs that Jake Wilde had (one of the main characters). Maybe the author was trying to point out in the book that his opion was wrong. I firmly do not believe that love is a chemical reaction. Love is a feeling, a gift from God.
The first few chapters were great. Then it began to drag a bit. The middle was the longest. I liked how she ended it. It was a great book.

After I finished those I later started the Glenbrooke series. I really like this series and like all of the books I've read so far. This one though is one of my favorites!

While the author seems to be an able writer, the story line lacks real depth. Some fresh ideas and more realistic plot might help. Meri acts quite ridiculous and unbelievable at times, (the green ogre, the blow up man, the gold fish, constantly going over the same old mind conversations) Perhaps this book would appeal more to adolescents than adults. Try again, Robin!

Thank you, Barbara Parks for letting America's favorite first grader learn a splendid Christmas lesson in Junie B., First Grader: Jingle Bells, Batman Smells! (p.s. so does May.)!

Even at holiday time, Junie is up to her expected tricks, and there's an awful rivalry with Tattletale May. But, alls well that ends well, with tons of laughs on the way to a heartwarming ending.

I have never seen my child go through a book this fast!!! We got it for him last night at about 6:00pm, and by 9:00am this morning he was like, "Wow, that was a great book!" He couldn't put it down. He read it at dinner last night, before he went to bed, when he woke up he immediately grabbed this book, he read it through breakfast, and he finished it in the car on our way to the store this morning. I am SHOCKED! All this from a kid who refuses to read anything for more than 20 minutes (which is the amount of time his teacher requires all the students to read their assigned books for homework). I'm buying him the Junie B. Dumb Bunny book for Christmas. It is the only other one rated 5 stars on this website.

Another story in the series by Park! Keeps you laughing - and will take you down memory lane as Junie B. gets ready for Christmas & will remind you of ALL those "fun" lyrics we made up to Christmas songs! She's still irrepressible & even though her language is "becoming more adult" there are still enough "Junie B.-isms" to keep you in stitches. If you're collecting the series, get going to the cash register!

Robin Jones Gunn is such a talented writer! She takes you to places you've dreamed of going and after reading you feel like you have been there. Every chacter experiences feelings that almost every woman can relate to. She is my favorite christian fiction writer. I hope she continues writing. I love the whole Glenbrooke Series. The series takes you to Hawaii, TN, CA, OR, WA....but each one is linked to Glenbrooke...a town you kind of wish you could visit or even live there...of course its seems like you do when you are reading the series. I just finished book 7 of the 8. I almost hate to finish the last one....I want there to be a number 9 and continue on. The Glenbrooke series has romance and friendships that intertwine in each book. Gardinias for Breakfast is awesome too as well as the Sisterchicks books.

After a spontanious idea of picking up this random book at the library, I sat in my mother's car heading to an out-of-city thanksgiving dinner. Stationed in the back of the car, the overhead light provided the ability to read on this adventure. At 5 o'clock, I picked up this book called Secrets. I began the cutest love story. Meet Jessica, a single, stranger to the town of Glenbrooke, Oregon. She ends up in a wreck right outside the town. She is rescued by handsome volunteer fire-fighter Kyle Buchanan. After series of events, she finds herself wrapped up in her new school as a High School English Teacher. When Kyle comes to falling head over heels with her, she turns him away and is criticized of her assumed relationship with him by a jealous principal, Charlotte. They end up on a mission trip together in Mexico and she finds her way back to Christ. After her truck breaking down, she is robbed without the robbers knowing she's in the car, hiding in the floorboard. When Kyle finds her, all her emotions let loose and she ends up spilling almost the whole story that has been hidden since she left California to Glennbrooke. All she had been hiding, gone in a matter of minutes. They fall in love, and of course, almost every novel ends with: The promise of an upcoming wedding. But, don't worry, the ending will either have you in tears, or reliving your own love story.
So, five stars Mrs. Gunn! Your masterpiece is a keeper.

After about 5 years as a java developer, I took a new job as a .NET / C# developer. This book was a great starting point for me. Going from java to c# is a relatively easy transition, but this book makes it much easier and quicker. The book compares the two languages and highlights the differences which made it easier for me to pick up. I'm not a person who reads many books, for work or pleasure, so I don't have much to compare it with. But out of the 10 or so books in my work library, this is the second best book I've used. (The best I own is Effective Java. I'd really like to get one like that for c#.)

Amazing, Just what I was looking for!

This was truely an amazing book, I've read many .NET books, all of which assume zero knowledge of programming, or very little. So when I skipped the first few chapters, or skipped them (Since I've been a Java Developer for several years), I missed valuable differences between Java and .NET.

Be sure you do know your stuff in Java, or else this book will seem over your head. This is not a beginners book. But if you're a Java developer, or have similar programming experience, this book is 100% for you.

My only quirk with this book, is that at times, it's more of a refrence/comparison, over how to use several key .NET features. And it seemed to jump around a little. So actually I'd probably rate this book a 4.75...but rounding up gives us a 5, which it pretty much deserves.

I highly recomend this book out there for anyone who is NOT a beginner programmer, or comes from a Java background. This book is a MUST read for you.

This books hits the spot for java developers, the intended audience. A one page description on delegates, for example, has all the information you need to get started with delegates. The Oreilly book has a long winded chapter on it and the essence was lost in the obtuse example provided.

This is a great book.

As an experienced Java developer who was "forced" to move into the C# and .NET world, I turned to this book to help me make that transition. I am very glad I did so. This book provided nearly all of the background I needed for that transition, and it still serves as my primary C# reference a year later. (By the way, working in the C# and .NET world is not as bad as I feared it would be.)

If you are accustomed to Java and new to the world of .NET and Microsoft books in general, you will find the majority of these books to be written for a less sophisticated audience than you are used to. My advice is to be very cautious what you spend your money on, as many of the books about Microsoft programming topics are not worth the investment.

This book, however, is very much worth the money you will spend on it.

i could have sworn this book was from microsoft press. This book did a *great* job of being unbiased, and presented "just the facts". It did so in such a clear manner as well, straightforwardly laying out the similarities and differences between java and C#, and each's strengths and weaknesses (briefly).

definitely recommended!

"In Full Bloom: A Brain Education Guide for Successful Aging" looks at the brain and how it ages, revealing that the loss of brain function as one gets older does not have to be the destiny of all seniors. Encouraging a program to keep one's brain in tip top shape much like one would work a muscle, "In Full Bloom" is a seminal guide for anyone getting up there and fearing losing their mind. As soon as I heard this book was published and available, I ordered six copies from Amazon.com. To my surprise I had to wait as they were already sold out. I have given all six to friends, organizations, and a club. This book is true, simple, and life saving. Every exercise is celarly illustrated, easy to perform and needs no special equipment but ones body. It fully debunks brain myths that many of us grew up with and allows us to understand our responsibilities in aging gracefully, creatively and retain our faculties at the same time. I highly recommend this book for all adults to understand how their lives can be more rewarding and fulfilling. More power to the over 60.

Ilchi Lee makes Eastern philosophy and exercise accessible to Americans in a way that we can understand and apply to our everyday lives. Thank you!!! I'm 42...not a senior... and I find the exercises in this book a great way to reduce stress and enhance mental clarity. Great illustrations and descriptions.

This is a short story about a `friend'. My `friend' spent most of his adult life as an unhappy individual. This `friend' hated the work he was doing but stayed with the same employer for 25 years. He didn't particularly care for his neighbors but is living in the same house for 17 years. He didn't want to keep in touch with friends or relatives unless he absolutely had to.
During his 30's and 40's, he was always complaining about his health and the aches and pains that conveniently kept him home from work and was also a good excuse to avoid keeping in touch with friends and family. He spent too many days going from doctor to doctor and hospital to hospital, throughout his life, only to get the same answers to all the tests he subjected himself to. The tests were all negative, but this `friend' was not convinced that there was nothing wrong with him.
This `friend' was living a self-fulfilling prophecy. He had used his failing health as an excuse for so long that he had convinced himself that he was really sick. Instead of being happy that all the test results were negative, he complained that the doctors could not find the problems, which made him feel sicker.
Finally at age 58, this 'friend' went to see a doctor who happened to be of Korean origin. After another round of tests with still negative results, this doctor told this 'friend' that he was in good health, in fact, he was in very good health. The doctor recommended that he should get into an exercise and diet program before long or his health would start to deteriorate. The doctor suggested that he should look into a Yoga program which is both physical as well as educational.
So this `friend' found a Dahn Yoga Center only a few blocks from his home. He gathered enough courage to go upstairs and speak with the Instructor. After a 20 minute initial exam, the instructor was describing all the ailments this 'friend' was experiencing, and he was right on. After an introduction to the Yoga exercise routine, this 'friend' attended his first Yoga class the same evening. Although he was always skeptical and doubting everything in his life, something about the Yoga class made him feel different. He continued with the classes and participated in educational programs called B.E.S.T.
The instructor recommended the he read a book named; In Full Bloom: A brain Education Guide For Successful Aging, by Ilchi Lee and Doctor Jessie Jones. This book helped this `friend' to understand how he was creating his own problems and how to start to correct his physical and mental balance back to a healthy body and mind.
If you didn't guess by now this `friend' is really me. At age 58, I am now able to realize that my negative outlook was causing my aches and pains. It all took place in my head. For over 25 years my constant complaining and whining brought myself and everybody around me down.
Just to be able to write this story shows how much I have changed. In one year I lost 14 lbs., my aches and pains have gone away, and my attitude has changed from negative to positive.
But writing this story serves another purpose. If anybody reading this story has the same or similar attitude, I urge you, I'll even beg you, don't wait for your life to pass by without changing how you feel. Get a copy of: In Full Bloom, and / or visit a Yoga center near you. You owe it to yourself to enjoy the rest of your life. It's never to late to change.

I knew that if contained stories of the caliber on his site the book would be quite enjoyable. I was not mistaken, for the book was side-splittingly funny. It is one of those books you can reread over and over again.

After you read it through 5 or so times, show it to all of your friends. I got a massive kick out of watching other people read it. They would start to guffaw and chuckle at Sir John sublime comedy and I would join in. Good Times.

I was delayed at an airport for 4 hrs, and decided to buy this book at the bookstore. I could not put it down. It made me forget I was so angry for being delayed. Besides his pranks being top notch, his writing really makes you identify with his perspective. You actually also learn a few interesting facts about how particular services or companies work (like how to rid yourself of junk mail). This is a great book; highly recommended.

The book never arrived at 3 weeks, so canceled the order and hope the charge is reversed on my card. Woody's books was nice about the problem and sent me a $5 check to aid in buying the book at a higher cost in a local book store.

This is a fantastic book for the newly-diagnosed breast cancer patient. It was given to my by my surgeon's office. It does a great job explaining things on a level that the average person can understand. It also has great diagrams, lists of questions to ask your medical team, glossary of terms, websites to check out and comments from breast cancer survivors and/or significant others of survivors. I highly recommend this book.

We give this book to surgeons in our area to distribute to women diagnosed with breast cancer. Before purchasing it, we had a group of 4 breast cancer survivors review and rate 3 separate books on breast cancer. This book "won" hands down, based on numerous criteria -- everything from its explanation of breast cancer treatments, to its index and glossary, to its discussion of life after cancer. It is clear and easy to read, provides comprehensive information on types of breast cancer and corresponding treatment alternatives, has wonderful graphics and photos, and provides interesting anecdotal stories of actual patients in its sidebar. Highly recommended!

I was introduced to this book at work and am now giving it to women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. I am on oncology certified nurse in the radiation oncology department of my cancer center. In January 2007 I also became our Breast Cancer Patient Navigator. I find this book gets excellent reviews from patients and their families alike. It is a great source of information, covering all the topics from diagnosis to living life 'after cancer'. I only wish I would have had this book when I was on my personal breast cancer journey! I highly recommend this book for someone newly diagnosed with breast cancer.

New Treatments in an Environment of Understanding

"Many experts believe that Herceptin represents the future direction of breast cancer drugs, because it targets a particular protein on the cancer cell, rather than attacking all cells at random. As research progresses, scientist hope to make all anti-cancer drugs as specific as possible." ~ pg. 97

Designed to compliment the book, the DVD provides an environment of understanding with explanations for all the procedures and various situations that will occur after a diagnosis. New treatments like Immunotherapy are discussed and there is an extensive resource section with additional CD options, including a CD-ROM program that is an interactive guide to treatment.

Helpful up-to-date information about why you may not need a mastectomy and only a lumpectomy is encouraging and gives hope. Radiation and Chemo is also discussed in detail. Throughout both the DVD and book, women tell their stories and that gives a sense of the range of experience. There are over 150 color photographs and graphics to illustrate important points.

A variety of questions are given in each section so you know what to ask your doctor. The stages of breast cancer are given so you know exactly what your doctor is talking about. The main sections include:

Facing Breast Cancer - Your feelings, support groups, healthcare teams and overview of treatment options.

Breast Cancer Basics - Types of Breast Cancer

Diagnosis and Staging - Tumor Testing, the Pathology Report, Additional Tests, How Stage is Determined

Surgery - Reconstruction, Lumpectomy and Mastectomy options, Lymph Nodes

Reconstruction - Choosing a Plastic Surgeon, External and Internal Options

Radiation Therapy - How treatment is given, Brachytherapy

Chemotherapy - Side Effects, Common Chemotherapy Drugs

Hormone Therapy - How Treatment is Given, Who should be Treated, Side Effects

Immunotherapy - Future Therapies and Herceptin

Clinical Trials - Participation Ideas and getting the newest treatments...

Life after Cancer - Emotional Recovery, Physical Recovery

The Guide for Your Partner is a special section your partner can read. If possible, watching the DVD together would be ideal because it explains all the basics in the book.

Be a Survivor is an excellent resource because it gives you all the questions you need to ask and answers a number of pertinent questions any woman will be asking the moment she is diagnosed.

Vladimir Lange, MD is one of the most respected doctors in this field of study and this book came into being after his own wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.

This is a terrible book. The writing is truly awful and the story is lame. The other reviews persuaded me to finish the book -- unfortunately the experience was no better at page 499 than at page 9. Don't waste your time.

Clever war story full of action and surprises.

Comfortably Numb is a fictional account of three exceptional characters thrust into extraordinary circumstances. The trio of protagonists are Weeds, a near super-human Zen-master; Drew, a computer hacker; and Jamie, with natural battle-visualization abilities. The author patiently develops the nuances of these characters before thrusting us (readers) into the action.

Our three heroes are part of the Air Force crew on the Joint STARS, a surveillance and command aircraft monitoring the tense situation along the border between North and South Korea. The situation deteriorates, initially due to the inept and manipulative Commander, but more powerful, complex, and sinister forces also come into play. Weeds, Drew and Jamie suffer through dark and disturbing travails (war is hell) and overcome nearly impossible odds using their wit and intuition.

This is a bold novel taking a far-reaching and unflinching look at the politics of war and the potential for abuse. It is a topical theme neatly written into a captivating story.

If you are interested in a book that will captivate every gamut of emotion, look no further. Guy Jones provides a well-written book that offers the reader a passage through true friendship, love, anger, rage, injustice, triumph, and much more. In his book "Comfortably Numb", he offers a unique opportunity to experience life in the Air Force through the eyes of its main characters - Drew, Jamie and Weeds. These characters share a divergent personal perspective of the military, but prove to share an unmistakable call to duty and honor in the midst of ill plots and betrayal at the hands of their own leaders. The supporting characters provide a consortium of well established, multifaceted personalities that help authenticate each of the story lines and simply bring the book to life. There is an abundance of mystery, intrigue, and diversions, whose sole purpose is to unequivocally, spool and hook the reader's attention - successfully I might add.

Kudos, Mr. Jones, "Comfortably Numb" is most definitely a remarkable piece of literature!

Duty vs. Obedience

Having served with Indy (Guy) in the Middle East during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, I was able to get a unique perspective of both the man and the author. Both surprised me. It was hard for me to believe that a man so involved and proficient in the technical details of his Joint STARS mission could relay that same technical information in a layman's point of view in his book, and do it in such a way as to keep a reader interested. There just aren't many people out there who have the technical brains and the creativity to convey that so eloquently in prose...Indy is one of those few.

As for the book itself, as with some of the other reviewers, it took me a while to really get into the story. I began to wonder where all the character development was going to take me and when all the technical information would factor into the main plot. However, about a third of the way through it all became clear and I could not stop reading. Guy's understanding of the military-political relationship is incerdible. He lays out exactly how the Korean peninsula fits into the whole political/economic/militray structure of Asia, and subsequently the world, and how one little mistake can have vast-reaching global effects. Jones also brings to bear the dilemma that haunts most military officers...the choice between morality, duty, and obedience. In most cases, those three qualities overlap nicely. In Comfortably Numb, Jones goes into what can happen when the leadership places their warfighters into a situation where those qualities do not synch up. Jones emphasizes the necessity of having skilled officers who know how to properly chose the correct path, and not flow through their careers with blind obedience. Some of the events discussed may seem a little far-fetched, but I think recent events have proven that this book may not be as way off as we would like to think. For military and civilian leaders alike, there are some greast points that Jones has offered. I would hope that those who read this book would understand the importance of not putting your people into a situation such as this.

Indy, you've helped me find my chi.

The Title Misleads

While the state of comfortable numbness may be an appropriate description of USAF personnel doing long shifts on JSTARS or AWACS, that description does not apply to readers of Guy Jones' book with that title. Numb, maybe, over the first pages as Jones sets the stage a little slowly; but never comfortable and definitely not numb over the entire book.

The promotional blurbs on the cover liken this book to the "techno-thrillers" of Tom Clancy and Dale Brown. I disagree. There is technology: JSTARS and AWACS do their job using very sophisticated technology, but the technology is pertinent to the story only as necessary for a thriller set in that environment. I liken this story more to the "anxiety dreams" of Robert Ludlum, but where Ludlum was the suave sophistication of Cary Grant, Jones creates a situation with more of the down-to-earth coping of Andy Griffith.

Two college friends, different genders but with no sexual relationship (her doing, not his), go into ROTC and JSTARS/AWACS training together, and are assigned together for duty. Their on-the-job mentor and training officer is more than a little weird, and definitely on the outs with their commanding officer. They all end up on a mission where the fan starts being pelted. Their ensuing adventures, blundering through a Ludlumesque environment, end up exposing a major international plot. All's well that ends well, and the characters go off to live happily ever after-or do they?

This is a great read, and I look forward to more-either the continuation of this story as set up very well by Jones, or something new. Based on this book, either will be welcome.
