The other reviewers have done a great job of describing this book so I'll keep my review short. I was not prepared for this book. I'm not sure anyone can be prepared. Halfway through I started crying and had to put it away for awhile. Our country is capable of doing some wonderful things. We (and yes I mean we, because the actions of our leaders and military represent all of us) are also capable of doing some truly horrible things. This book shines a light on one of the horrible things we did in Vietnam.

The ticking "time bomb" uniting two cultures once at war.

In September, 1976, just back from eight years helping homeless streetchildren in Viet Nam, I wrote an Op/Ed piece for the New York Times ( "Learning From the Vietnamese -- And Giving", 12/04/76) that concluded: "And I'm at a loss how to tell my own people that Vietnam's needs are our remedy - to say that what the Vietnamese people have to offer us - as they did me - is so great that for our own sake we must help them." I was attempting to make a connection between the spiritual strengths the people of Viet Nam had to offer us and the technological assistance we, in turn, could give them. Philip Jones Griffiths, in his book "Agent Orange, 'Collateral Damage' in Viet Nam" has made an even more compelling, if depressing, case for interdependency, i.e., because of the American military's chemical spraying in south VN during the war years there are now thousands of people in both the U.S. and Viet Nam who are dealing with deformities and death because of a ticking "time bomb" planted in Indochina decades ago. Griffiths, author of "VIETNAM, INC.", an award-winning photography book on America's longest war, has included here some unsparing images of humans beings brutally deformed by man's more fiendish dalliance with Weapons of Mass Destruction. Here is a "legacy" that must give all of us pause by a brilliant photographer's tireless effort to bring almost unbearable evidence to us of man's inhumanity to man. Like the Holocaust itself, the full impact of these atrocities took years to come to the fore, but "Agent Orange" makes a compelling case that two countries once at war remain linked in a tragic bond that will not soon go away. This is not an easy book to read or, should I say, to view, but I think we ignore it at our peril. Griffiths knows what of he "speaks", having spent years in Indochina and seen un-speakable carnage firsthand. Here he has placed the evidence before us, as well as a precious opportunity to understand where we have gone wrong and how we may become better human beings in the future. "Agent Orange, 'Collateral Damage'", it almost goes without saying, may be the ultimate brief on America's own WMDs. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Black Book of American Infamy

For those already committed to voting for the so-called 'antiwar' candidate, I recommend putting this book in front of Sen. John Kerry and demanding to know what he will do as president to address American responsibility and pay reparations for the genocidal assault on the people of Vietnam. Such action will constitute a litmus test for this candidate, his "band of brothers" and future warriors about how the USA intends to solve the problem of terrorism. Will they acknowledge international law and prosecute the guilty parties including politicians, bureaucrats, executive military officers and defense contractors? Will they honor, finally, the Paris Accords and repair the ecocide brutally wrought upon the Vietnamese by their chemical weapons? Or will they continue to cover up a deliberate, malefic genocide by honoring war criminals like Kissinger and McNamara who now cries cinematic tears while his Pentagon successors plan the mass destruction of any nation that dares to oppose American hegemony?

Philip Jones Griffiths's AGENT ORANGE, COLLATERAL DAMAGE IN VIETNAM is a complex, dense statement that can be viewed and read several ways. Foremost, it is unquestionably the greatest work of photojournalism ever published. I do not make this statement lightly or without professional judgement. For twenty-five years, I edited the work of distinguished photojournalists -- Capa, Richards, Salgado, Peress, and Nachtwey among many others. Comparable only to W. Eugene Smith's MINIMATA: LIFE -- SACRED AND PROFANE, a passionate chronicle of the devastating effects of post-WW II industrial pollution on a Japanese town, AGENT ORANGE surpasses all previous attempts to synthesize the medium of still photography with historical documentation. Griffiths's masterly images unselfconsciously insert readers into the scene of an historical crime and guide them through the evidence page by excruciating page as a means to elicit direct testimony from the perpetrators and their victims. With the possible exception of Erich Maria Remarque' s ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, no other monograph so successfully confronts citizens with the folly of leaders who commit atrocities in their name. The stares of genetically deformed children struggling to articulate humanity across the threshold of pain and disability give absolute lie to the facile excuses of national security used by politicians to conduct high tech assault-and-battery on unwitting, innocent populations. Then it was Vietnam, today Iraq and Afghanistan.

Beginning with his eloquent book, VIETNAM INC. first published in 1971, Griffiths has pursued an unrelenting inquiry into the truth of violence and war. He reported from the Mekong Delta battlefront and also the brothels of Saigon. Returning years later, he earned the trust of farmers who had rebuilt their devastated villages with the detritus of war. Pushing his inquest further he located and photographed war orphans, now shunned as the miscegenated offspring of foreign invaders (DARK ODYSSEY, 1997). Infrequently supported by the mass media, Griffiths parlayed his skills as a commercial photographer to raise the cash necessary to return periodically to Southeast Asia, as if excavating its pitted landscape for some fragment of reason that might explain the macabre body counts and haunting trans-generational birth defects. Some photographers are celebrated for their commitments in documenting a family coming of age or the rise and fall of a nation. Journalism schools promote the virtues of in-depth or extended coverage (sometime a whole week!) while network and cable news personnel embrace the fame of sticking with a big story only to defer, in the final analysis, to the desire of corporate sponsors. By contrast Griffiths has the determination of a seasoned forensic scientist. Although no maverick, he has paid the price of banishment from the newspapers and magazines "of record" whose editors remain too frightened by management to commission or publish his work. Why would they want to remind subscribers of their own inaccuracies and slavish pandering to the official story?

In this respect, AGENT ORANGE can also be read for its scholarship because it presents new historical research about the manufacture and deployment of chemical weapons during the Vietnam era. It has been almost twenty years since American courts acknowledged the gravity of dioxin poisoning in rulings on lawsuits filed by military veterans. Yet companies who supplied the military with these chemical defoliants continue to falsify experimental data on their products' potential for birth defects. Our government stands mute on the issue of "peace with honor" and refuses to contribute any meaningful economic assistance, nonetheless stipulated in the treaty with Hanoi. The war's apologists and neoliberal ideologues continue to deride Vietnam as a failed socialist experiment. Griffith's photographs and words rip their lies to shreds and dissolve their chauvinism in the cold truth of twisted limbs, hare lips, and hydrocehpalic fetuses preserved in formaldehyde. AGENT ORANGE is the black book of American infamy, its author has given citizens a priceless instrument to test their politicians sincerity and commitment to peace. Buy a copy and ask Kerry for a clear statement of conscience!

Philip Jones Griffiths is among the unsung heroes of our time, photographing the otherwise untold, unsavory aspects of a mean-spirited war completely lacking in human decency. Agent Orange is masterfully conceived, researched, photographed and written in prose that at once is dark, beautiful poetry.

When I first started this book, I almost gave up. Ana came across as just a little too naive, and it was almost painful to read her first interactions with Jones. Boy am I glad I persevered! The book really took off, with a lot of action set at a good pace. Ana's most saving grace is her glib remarks to the stoic Jones and the fact that is able to take care of herself. I would highly recommend this book, and will be adding this author to my favorites list.

Acting as a courier gives Analiese Tremaine's life a bit of a thrill, but nothing like the dangerous missions her brothers pursue. But when brother Sam goes missing, Analiese assumes a new identity, Ann Smith, and follows a name in her brother's files to a reclusive man known only as Jones. Unfortunately, painful memory and betrayal has driven Jones into a self appointed life of seclusion, and he does not welcome Ann's intrusion.

For five years Jones has been out of the business, making a living running charters and finding sex in the arms of women who expect nor more than he does. Ann's attempt to charter his boat irritates him, especially when she manipulates a booking into going someone else. Soon he finds his good sense overridden by a need to protect her from peril that send them into plunging into a jungle adventure that promises life-threatening danger.

Author Kylie Brant once again proves her ability to create an intriguing romance filled with extreme intensity in ALIAS SMITH AND JONES. These finally realized characters come vividly alive as Ann refuses to allow Jones' difficult nature to thwart her self-appointed mission to find her brother. Indeed, years of dodging her over protective brothers prepare her well for the irascible Jones. Further, Ann's powder puff surface conceals of woman of surprising depth and resiliency; something Jones will learn the hard way. A fast paced plot guaranteed to keep the blood pounded and tension on high, ALIAS SMITH AND JONES comes very highly recommended.

Sam Tremaine lived a covert life. Everyone believed him to be an international lawyer, even his family ... or so he thought.

When Sam disappeared for over two weeks, Analiese, his sister, went searching for him. The family business was named Tremaine Technoligies and it handled some of the United States government's most sensitive orders. Analiese was one of the best in the tech world. Even Sam's encrypted files were not safe from Ana if she chose to look at them. Ana had known for years about Sam's covert career. Sam, however, did not know that Ana had been running as a courier for his contact, Sterling, for over two years thus far.

Ana tracked her brother to Laconos, a country that had recently undergone some major changes in its government. Sam's files mentioned using a particular charter service from Bontilla owned by a man listed only as "Jones". She began her hunt there.

Jones owned the ship named the Nefarious. The lady calling herself Ann Smith reeked of trouble. Figuring she was an island-hopping rich girl, and him needing the commission, he agreed to take her to Laconos and show her the beaches. Ann seemed to attract trouble. He found himself trying to protect her from the corrupt government and its military. Not an easy task considering she kept ditching him to see the island's nightlife. Jones could not even figure out why he cared. What she did was none of his business. Besides, the less she was around him, the less chance she would figure out his secrets.

***** This story has as many secrets as a James Bond movie. The main characters were constantly snooping, spying, and getting into dangerous scenarios. Author Kylie Brant did an excellent job of pairing this couple off and made the entire plot seem believable. The book is first of a short series, but has closure. Seems each Tremaine sibling will get a story. I, for one, am glad to know that because this book left me breathless for more. I eagerly look forward to May release! *****

Analiese Tremaine may look and act like your typical "blonde," but she is anything but.... When Ana's brother goes missing she decides that she will be the one to re-trace his steps and try to find him before his cover is blown. She hacks into his computer and finds a trail that leads to Jones.

Jones takes one look at "Ann" and decides she's trouble, but money does talk and he's pretty low on funds. He can't help but watch out for her because he thinks she's ditzy. The run together through the jungle, climb down cliffs and sail home on a garbage barge....all for Sam Tremaine....

This story is wonderfully written by Kylie Brant. In a world where the series romance can sometimes become lackluster, her story shines through. I highly enjoyed the interaction with Jones and Ana...he's stoic and she's sassy...wonderful by-play between them all through the story! You can't miss this one!

For an action packed, emotionally charged book that is hard to put down, I recommend Alien Earth. For a fantasy fiction novel, the story is flavored with a sense of realism as you find yourself picturing how you would act in the impossible situation that the main characters find themselves in. I highly recommend this book to all of my friends. I really enjoyed it, and I rarely take to science fiction novels.

It is important that you stay with this book, as it seems a little slow at first, but as I was to find out, character development very important later on in the story. I enjoyed this book because it puts a different twist on the alien invasion of earth. The aliens even have a special use for Disney World. Hope you enjoy this book as much I did. Just a note, I read the last 100 pages in one sitting, as I didn't want to put it down.

Great read!

I have many aromatherapy books and none compare to this one. Larissa is very clear and concise in her application of aromatherapy principles at presents her ideas in an easy to follow fashion. This book is good for beginners, but is by no means arbitrary reading or education for those more advanced in this arena. If you are looking to learn more about this field you should start here because this book will give you a strong sense of what aromatherapy is used for and decode it's mysteries (especially for the beginner). This is my absolute favorite aromatherapy book, and if I could only use one, it would be this one!

Larissa Jones is a master aromatherapist and her book is remarkable in its simplicity and flow. She not only includes great information about the key uses for each essence but also shows which combinations work well. She brings in the emotional qualities that assist in the total balancing of the body. This book is fun and would be my first choice if you need to pick only one book. You will feel as if you can begin right away and continue to learn as your skill improves.

This is the first book I turn to when looking for aromatherapy remedies. Usually, I need no other. Her information is precise and concise, which makes it easy to follow and remember. Also, she lists uses for each essential oil and what mixes well with it. If you ever have a chance to see her in person, do it, it's well worth any price.

Larissa Jones explains the history, the vocabulary, and the chemical mechanisms of how aromatherapy works in a style that is easy for the beginner to comprehend without insulting the educated intelligence. Her enthusiasm for the health benefits of essential oils shines through as she lovingly explains how aromatherapy can ease many health challenges and bring relief to the sufferer of a variety of conditions. Her integrity is displayed by her honest expressions of not only the scientifically verifiable benefits of aromatherapy, but its limitations and cautions against unwise use of the essential oils. If you are a beginner looking for a delightful, informative, enthusiastic guide to the wonderful world of aromatherapy, by someone who both loves the art AND who knows what she is talking about, this is the only book that fits the bill! Thanks, Larissa!

This is an incredible book. 160 pages of color plates. As an artist, I really appreciate the detailed close ups of some of the paintings, where you can see every brush stroke. The color quality of the plates is very high. Lots of fantasy female figurative paintings in this book. Jeffrey Jones has a real gift for light and shadow, color, and painting the human form. Many of the color plates are 8" x 11" or 9" x 12". and could actually be cut out and framed.

Dozens and dozens Jeffrey Jones' wonderful paintings are beautifully produced in this fine book. Unfortunately, there is very little in the area of his sketches, and almost nothing of his comic work.

It might be argued that Jones' most original creations were his *Idyll* and *I'm Age* strips for National Lampoon and Heavy Metal. Certainly his work with pen-and-ink is nothing short of extraordinary. (I work with pen-and-ink myself and am in awe of his modeling techniques.) This book gives us only one single page of Idyll and one single page of I'm Age.

Because of these disappointing omissions I am tempted to give this book only two or three stars, but I give four stars in the hope that the Idyll and I'm Age strips will be collected together at a later time. They are brilliant, and from an artistic standpoint they are at least as important as the paintings.

Questions have always circulated about Jeffrey Jones and his place in the history of 20th Century fantasy art: was he a monumental talent or just another Frazetta imitator? I think this book finally provides a definitive answer: he was both. THE ART OF JEFFREY JONES is a beautiful showcase that effectively traces Jones' transition from a Frazetta-wannabe in the 1960s to the truly gifted painter of the 1990s be became.
And I must disagree with Manfred's complaints and comparisons to previous Jones books: not only are Jones' earlier books long out of print, but THE ART OF JEFFREY JONES includes a great deal of work not included in any other collection (along with unpublished art credited as being painted in the '90s). While the text most certainly could have been expanded, I believe the editors have revealed more about Jones as an artist and person than any have previously and I came away with a better appreciation of this eccentric creator. A personal favorite.

This is one terrific book! It was a great trip down memory lane for me: Jeffrey Jones did the fantastic covers for many of the swords-and-sorcery paperbacks I read while growing up. In addition to the artwork for stellar talents like Robert E. Howard, Fritz Leiber, Jack Vance, and Karl Edward Wagner, Jones' beautiful paintings also brought class to less distinguished (but still fun)books by authors like Lin Carter and Gardner F. Fox. The wonderful artwork for many, many of these books is included, as well as a ton of great illustrations based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan adventures. The cover illustration is one of the best (and most understated) pieces of vampire artwork I've ever seen. The paintings are enlivened by Jones' personal reflections on his career, and the book concludes with striking samples of Jones' non-commercial art. Jones' smoldering, doe-eyed brunettes are the stuff dreams are made of!

I have to admit that when I first saw the picture of the author with blue hair on the back of this book I was hesitant to hear what she had to say. However, everytime I would see the book I felt compelled to buy it and read it anyway. I'm very glad I did. Hiding underneath that blue hair is one very intelligent woman. The Bible says that "...God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong," (I Cor.1:27). I admit that in my prejudiced pride I was thinking too highly of myself and was very humbled after reading this book.

While some may not agree with all Mrs. Jones has to say that she saw, the teaching is incredible. She shows how each plague put upon the Egyptians during Moses' time correlates with our own progressive downfall into sin. She explains how the enemies of the Israelites during the taking of the Promised Land each represented a sin in humanity which broke the commandments of God.

However, what really touched me personally in this book was her vsion about the Throne Judgements. Knowing deep inside that what she was saying was true about the fact that every sin causing every tear and drop of blood shed that had not been covered by the blood of Jesus would bear testimony to how a person was judged brought me to my knees. It released a vision of God's grace to know that I had to both repent of my own sins as well as to let off the hook any people who had sinned against me that I secretly held onto in unforgiveness.

In conclusion, this is an excellent book and full of much wisdom. Don't let your preconceived notions stop you from buying it and reading it. You will want to get copies to give to others after you are done.

I sit quietly at my desk humbly praying for the words that this reviewer may bring to you concerning the work, "Ask For The Ancient Paths," by author Jessica Jones.
As those of you who follow my reviews know, I am not new to reading and reviewing books concerning visions, dreams and directions from God. I have been privileged to read many that have warmed my heart and increased my faith, and I will be forever grateful for each of them for the encouragement and growth they have given to me. However, the words within this book took me on a journey that I never dreamed possible .It is not a small thing for me to say that I truly was not prepared for the revelation that was to be unfolded to me in this work. Revelation that would allow me to see deep into the heart of God, the beginning of time, the creation and fall of man, the depth of deception in Lucifer, the wondrous role of Angels and the deep penetrating, undying love that the Godhead has for mankind. It was literally breathtaking revelations that opened my eyes to more mysteries in the spiritual realm in the few hours it took me to read this book than in the almost 30 years of ministry that I have partaken of. And when I say this, understand that I have indeed seen my share of the miraculous, visions and miracles, heard deep secrets of the spirit and seen the hand of God mightily move.
Author Jessica Jones opens her heart to her readers, laying bear before them her own beginnings, heartaches, and trauma's in life that took her years to overcome until she realized her calling from her Creator. To me, she is a woman who is well aware that she will be held accountable to God for every word that she speaks or writes and is ever careful to follow the call of the Lord. I know that with any vision there are always areas that some may call gray, but our author has done everything she can to give the reader either Scriptural references or scientific data concerning her visions. You may not agree with everything you will read in this book, but I am pretty sure when you are finished you will be given to much thought and soul searching for a very long time. I highly recommend this book as a Minister of the Gospel, a reviewer, and just someone who was searching for some answers for a long time and finally found them.

As a seminary student at one of the most conservative seminaries in the Southern Baptist Convention I experienced in my first year nearly every antic dote about seminaries Dr. Jones mentions in his book. During that same time I heard numerous professors and others who support the critical text insist that such things "never" happen at seminaries. Remarkably, due to my own personal research, I was often more knowledgeable than many of my professors on the subject of textual criticism and Bible versions. Being a degreed, licensed, and practicing engineer experienced in the scientific method, I found that these "experts" almost always lacked the ability to be truly objective and recognize the illogical, grossly unscientific reasoning of the methods employed in textual criticism. Even more remarkable is that I find the "experts" and "scholars" are the least interested in engaging in an objective discussion on the matter, and many pastors do not consider the subject significant. Most seem to consider the issue a technical argument over fine details - thinking that if it were all that important their seminary professors would have informed them. In reality the subject is never covered in the vast majority of seminary degree plans including the Ph. D. degree plans, and if covered only minuscule introductory generalities are discussed. I truly believe the church is experiencing the fulfillment of Isaiah 29:14, "... for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid." I encourage every believer to read Dr. Jones' book, weigh the evidence, reach your own conclusion, and do not be intimidated by anyone who disagrees just because they hold an "authoritative" degree.

Now 2 1/2 years after writing this review, serving during that time as pastor of a small church in southeast Texas, and obtaining another degree myself, I have found no change in the matter. One of the most astounding things to me is the visceral reactions from "scholars" and "academia," so much so that I have come to lothe to be labeled a "scholar," which often occurs because of my position. The title has become something of a pejorative to me because of the lack of objectivity and pragmatism from scholarship in not only the discipline under discussion here, but also in so many others - more of Isaiah 29:14. Never do they reply with any objectivity or logic. The usual reply has something to do with them declaring their own expertise as the reason they are "right." There is rarely if ever any pragmatic response. Perhaps also because relatively few people care much about the actual seriousness of the issue.

The best book I've read on the issue

There are many books that deal with the issue of Bible versions. I've read a fair amount of them, and find most KJV only books make extreme assertions that they lose their validity.

This book is a great blend of scientific inquiry and faith. At the core of the book is the authors undaunted belief that God has actually preserved His Word, not by means of some scholars reconstructing it, but rather through the true church.

With solid credentials both in the scientific field and theological field, Dr. Jones demonstrates that we have God's Word. We don't have to hope the scholar reconstruct it at some point, but we can be assured that we have it now.

Being a Sunday School teacher, I was greatly blessed by reading this book as it settled the issue for me. Now I can study the Word with confidence, not having to constantly second guess whether the rendering of any particular version is correct.

Many of the statements of faith of churches and organizations have something like: "we believe that the Bible is inspired and infallible IN THE ORIGINALS". From this statement they build all their other doctrines. Well, who has the originals? So do we have God's Word? This is a serious question that Dr. Jones addresses.

When I was reading this book I compared what Dr. Jones wrote to what other side was saying. I found they either did not deal with the issue, or glossed over it, hiding it behind a bunch of scholarly jargon and textual variants. The key issue is preservation, and compare for yourself what Dr. Jones writes about preservation and what you read in the books defending the modern versions.

Being one of the "storm travelers" in the first half of the book, having close connections to others, and knowing the author personally, I continue to read it because it continues to help. These are real people, all too real crises, and examples of real faith.

A "must" for those experiencing tragic & traumatic events.

A book with the ability to give strength and hope to the victim of tragic circumstances. The author, through the relating of real life stories, helps one see the "light at the end of the tunnel" in experiencial situations....not just in intellectual dialogue. Mr. Jones reviews a common conclusion of each of the real life experiences. He draws very helpful and interesting summations. It's "real" help.

Before I came across this book I had never heard of the author. Now I want to find out what else he has written! Written about real people who have experienced real loss and pain, this book is not the typical "pie in the sky" approach that many Christian books take. Although your journey of healing and restoration will have to be written by you, this book will give you help and hope that since others have made it "Beyond The Storm", that you can too. Jonesy mixes together a lifetime of highs and lows and shows how, with God's help, we all can make it. I have been reading and listening to the author for many years and find this to be his finest work on the subject of suffering, both physically and mentally. He always, always, gives us a way to make it through. Do yourself a favor and BUY THIS BOOK.

I loved the book Bigfoot Doesn't Square Dance. It was a real adventure. If you do a bookreport in 3rd grade I`d consider this book. Bigfoot pretends to be a camp counselor, but when a real camp counselor comes he hightails it out of there.

Great adventure

I liked when everyone started square dancing on the stage. It was really funny. Ranger Lily was my favorite character because she kept disappearing whenever Bigfoot came to the class. The Bailey School Kid books are the best series of books I have ever read. Jonny, age 7

This book has a flow to it that continues where, the spider's egg, left off. It has a similar tone to it but with less aggression. With that being said, it still has a dark feel to it. It's almost psychotic and from what I've heard, a bit more personal. Everyone should check this out. It's a great book.

This guy really can write, man. I read his first book, the spider's egg, and thought "wow!" Then when I heard he was coming out with a new book, I checked it out and once again "wow" It's a little different, not too much but still deals with the basic messages this dude is expressing. I'm not all that much into poetry books but I really do like these. I can feel it, that why! Keep 'em comin', dude!

Delivers Again!!

Chris gets more personal in this book than he did in his previous. In "The Spider's Egg" he wrote beautifully about the inner demons he was dealing with and the truth hurts, reality of this world. This book is both similar and different mixed together. Sounds weird, right? Well, that's what you should come to expect from this writer. There are certain poems in this book that almost bring tears to your eyes because of the honesty they inflict about things alot of people, unfortunately, have been through and are still going through. From abuse, both physically and mentally of all kinds, to the struggles of keeping faith and hope. Chris, again, uses his words to connect to those who have not had the easiest of lives. It really is a great book and I hope you guys check it out and give it a chance. God bless you, Chris!
