This is a nice reprint of the original book about the Second Marine Division in WWII. Somewhat dated today as it was first published about 1948. My stepfather has a first edition copy as he was in that Unit and all of the Island Invasions including the nightmare of Tarawa.

Jennifer Johnston reminds us of the waste and regret that comes from love in inopportune times, in places where greater forces of emotion and hate are at play. Ireland after 1916 was a place of reawakened pride and passion. Those who existed in the previous order saw little place for themselves in the country about to be born. Johnston captures that sense of opportunity lost, for Miranda and, indeed, for the whole country. Living in South Africa today, it seems so familiar. A beautifully written book.

This book is positively gorgeous and pays tribute to the campus as you remember it and also guides you through the new campus of today. As the daughter of a former faculty member, a graduate, and the mother of an alumnus, this book is a cherished keepsake of the campus each of us attended. The book will inspire you to stay connected to the University of Washington as it grows to meet the needs of future students.

this book is full of easy and delicious fresh fish recipies. A must have for anyone who likes to eat fish.

I have read this book about 2-3 times. Maury Johnston does a good job of dealing with the major biblical issues surrounding the subject of homosexuality and Christianity. He doesn't shy away from criticizing both the church and the gay community when necessary. The book is logical and relatively clear in its presentation. While it does help in dealing with scriptural questions and providing some moral direction, it is a bit lacking in emotional and practical areas. In spite of this, it is definitely one of the best books I've read on the subject. It should be more prominent. I read Gays Under Grace again every few years and would recommend it. All-in-all it is balanced and pretty comprehensive.

"Geographic Information Systems in Ecology" provides a good overview of basic geographic concepts that ecologists use to analyze spatial patterns. Johnston starts out with basic GIS concepts, then moves to linear, topographic, temporal, and spatial interpolation techniques, and then wraps up with GPS concepts and basic modeling.

This is not a cookbook or how-to manual, but rather much more. Johnston's emphasis on the fundamentals holds up well, given the rapid speed with which this field is evolving. I expect that this will be an equally valuable reference 10 years from now.

My graduate class raced through this text, successfully I guess. As a GIS researcher, I found that the concerns surrounding the interface of GIS and human geography were handled in a biased way. In this I mean that the one chapter that deals with the techniques of human geography did a marginal job discussing GIS as just another in a line of positivist technical skills, rather than a true path for research.

The text is dry, as only British Academics can manage, but is very comprehensive. My Berkley-trained prof like the book, if that helps at all.

This is an amazing book with great pictures and a well documented text about rare treasures of the French Riviera: many of them are hiden from the eyes by fabulous mediterranean gardens and the authors had a great chance to be invited inside as we are now!

These are some of the estates of this area to have escaped from 60's and 70's appartment blocks obsession because of their situation on privileged Cap instead of town surburbs, and of the savoir-vivre of rich owners who have been seduced by them for more than a century.

Anyway, this is a good vision of the Riviera and the life-style that can be lived there, especially around Monte-Carlo, Mougins and Cannes!

A must-have!!!!

WOW! The photos in this book are excellent. Johnston and Schezen have really captured the essence of the Riviera. This magnificent display of architecture and landscape is one of a kind. What a great coffee table book and conversation piece!
