I just finished reading this book and it is nothing less than fantastic!!! Sad Sack is funnier than I remember (and that says a lot) Sweetie Sack is the hottest, dare I say sexiest, Sad Sack character ever. It's worth getting the book just to see her first appearance. All my favorite's like, General Rockjaw, Hi Fi, Slob and of course Muttsy return. This book will cheer you up and make you laugh. I also loved seeing the extra large size art.

Alan Harvey (of Harvey Comics fame) has gone to great lengths to return "Sad Sack" to comic book shelves. This time he appears in an oversize edition that features a previously unpublished cover by "Sad Sack's" creator George Baker, and many previously unpublished stories by longtime "Sad Sack" artist and writer Fred Rhoads. This is especially great as both of these artists have since passed away. Hopefully, Alan will publish a little more frequently than in the past, but this is a great start! Be warned that this is in black and white, but that means you can appreciate the artwork a little better.

This is one of the best tape series of this genre. In my opinion it may even surpass the Anthony Robbins series! (gasp!) Kerry seems to outline the path clearer than any of the other books and tapes I have read/listened to. I feel that while he tells you where you are headed as most other authors do, he does a superior job on the "how to " part of getting there

Powerful novel

Scissors, Paper, Rock is an unusual novel. On one level it is about dying - from AIDS, cancer, heart failure, war. Death comes in so many different ways, yet it results in loss, both of the deceased and of the memories that lived with that person. Death changes people in unique and complicated ways. Johnson explores this theme with tenderness and grace.

He also explores the role of myth in history. Are those things that we know as true really fact, or are they those things that we believe are true because they define who we are. Are our parents really who we believe them to be or is our understanding of them based on the stories that they choose to tell? Does this lessen the power of the stories or lessen the veracity of the story tellers? Johnson very adeptly addresses this theme.

Among these deep levels, there is a story of a family in rural Kentucky and their lives together and separately. The characters are well portrayed and the background is very true to life.

This is not an easy book, but it is well worth your time.

No other book has ever moved me the way this one did. Picture this: me, 20, working at a mall kiosk on Christmas Eve, and crying as I read this beautiful, moving work. It was not my finest public moment, but the book should not be faulted. The story of Raphael and his difficult relationship with his distant father is one that you can feel. This is the best work of gay-themed fiction that I have ever had the pleasure of owning. It is a must buy!

Moving story, great characters, interesting structure.

Author Fenton Johnson tells a moving story peopled with colorful, believable characters. Raphael, the gay son of Tom Hardin, returns home to his dying father. Each chapter is a complete and satisfying story. The stories are told from perspectives of various family members at different points in their lives. The chronology is not linear, engaging the reader's attention in interesting ways. Johnson convincingly presents the emotions of human relations, against the detailed backdrop of one southern family. He transports the reader into the world of a son striving to come to terms with his father before it is too late.

During my first read through my jaw kept dropping as I came to understand how little I know about screen acting, even at my low level of experience.

This book did more to open my eyes to the virtually hidden peculiarities and demands of acting for the screen than anything I've ever read. The pages of review sheets at the back are worth the price of the book.

The style is readable and the author speaks with the authority of experience. I'm sure that this will turn out to be the best investment I've made in my fledgling career as a film actor. I'm going to give this book to my closest actor-friends. I can't think of a better way to show how much I value them.

SENTINELS OF THE SUN: FORECASTING SPACE WEATHER is for any collection strong in either astronomy or weather science - which will likely mean college-level, but also some public library holdings. General-interest readers will find most accessible this survey of space weather forecasting history and science, which surveys the idea and nature of space weather and the technology which seeks to predict it. An outstanding guide, SENTINELS OF THE SUN includes color charts, photos, and black and white shots and considers both civilian and military applications of space weather science.

"Sentinels of the Sun: Forecasting Space Weather" is a readable and informative book that vastly increases the non-astronomers knowledge of the history and nature of space weather. As a regular reader of the New York Times Science section, I find that this book, by successful first-time authors, Barbara Poppe and Kristin Jorden, appeals to a similar audience--those interested, but not expert, in specific areas of science and its practical applications. Illustrated with a variety of interesting photos and graphics, "Sentinels of the Sun" fully engages its readers. I commend it to fellow Amazon-ites.

Interesting Book on a Little Known Subject

Yes, Virginia, there is weather in space. Not, of course, weather as we know it, but the sun puts out all kinds of radiation besides the visible light that makes day time. Of particular concern to the space-weather forecasters is measuring and predicting the radiation that would affect communications on earth or which might damage the instruments aboard satellites.

In October 2003 a major unpredicted solar storm occurred which caused hundreds of millions of dollars worth of satellites to stop working, permanently. They are now just floating space junk. Closer to home, airlines had to re-route flights (costing up to $100K per flight), electric power grids failed, radio communications were affected, homing pigeons get lost, and more.

This book summarizes the development of space weather analysis and forecasting over the past fifty years. It is part history, part science, part explanation of how it affects us. This is an interesting book on a subject that most of us have never heard of.

Bishop Lymus Johnson's life is truly that of a pioneer in the Pentecostal Church. Sometimes when you are too close to something or someone you can't truly appreciate it or them.

I hope God gives him a long life, but we will never really be able to appreciate the impact that this Man of God has had on the 21st Century Church until after he is gone, especially, now when so many so-called Christians seem to be spiritually asleep or ignorant of the fact that they even need the Holy Ghost in order to be saved.

You can't serve God without His spirit! As the song says: "give me that old time religion" Bishop Johnson gives us that "old time" tarry service until you're endowed with power from on high. Acts-1:8.

Really good cook book. It is possible to find the ingredients needed easily, a real bonus for days when you cannot be making repeated trips to various supermarkets in search of an elusive and expensive key ingredient. I've made lots of food from this and it has always been good. It was especially helpful when I was newly married and had to think of cooking several meals. The hole in the wall chicken and tortellini with cream were really good as was the recipe for Pastistio.

Wonderful writing, good food.

Fabulous cookbook. Recipes are preceded by info on where the recipe came from, suitable variations, the enjoyability of the making and eating of the dish, and ideas on what to pair with it for a satisfying meal. Many of the introductions are sheer poetry, making you want to try almost every dish. The chicken paprika and german meatballs are family favorites now - EXCELLENT recipes. If you enjoy cooking, you MUST add this book to your collection. It's one of the most treasured in ours, and we have, literally, hundreds. You'll not be disappointed with this book!

This cookbook is fabulous. My husband and I rely on it, and have yet to find a bad recipe. I've just taken my copy in to a print shop to have it ring bound because it's beginning to fall apart from years of use. I keep hoping that the Vancouver Sun Times will publish a sequel. If you like healthy, easy, excellent cooking, this is one not to miss.

_Six O'Clock Solutions_, a collection of main dish recipes, comes from the _Vancouver Sun_ test kitchen. To be included, a dish must take no longer than 30 minutes to prepare, from start to finish. The recipes are easy and forgiving,.. and draw on worldwide influences -- Italian-style pasta dishes, Asian-inspired chicken sauces, French seafood stews, etc. Assuming you have a reasonably well-stocked pantry (balsamic vinegar shouldn't be a stranger), you'll find that you can prepare most of the recipes with ingredients you already have on hand. Best so far? It's a tossup between Glazed Apricot-Walnut Chicken and Chicken Breasts with Mushrooms and Creamy Mustard Sauce.

A chart at the back of the book shows which recipes are low-fat, which are especially fast to prepare, which are good candidates for entertaining, and which have the highest KAF (kid acceptance factor). Each recipe is accompanied by suggested side dishes.

The _Vancouver Sun_ has also produced a cookbook called _Five Star Food_. I hope they continue the theme and write cookbooks featuring four, three, two, and one!

Juliet Johnson has truly created something great. This is a book that makes you laugh, cry and wish that there was a movie. It is a book about motherhood that's not just for mothers. This book is for everyone who was a mother, will ever be a mother or ever had a mother. This is a celebration of life, of the complexities and wonder that real life offers. There are no glossy photographs or Cleaver-esque depictions of the perfect house or the perfect life; Somebodys Always Hungry is a book about seeing God in the bridge of a nose and poetry in a severed arm. Although beloved humorist Erma Bombeck died in 1996, her spirit is alive and well in Juliet Myfanwy Johnson's Somebody's Always Hungry--Essays on Motherhood. Juliet mines motherhood's golden moments with laughs, tenderness, and a crystal clear recognition of the humor and chaos inherent in raising small children. This is a must-read for every new mother and father--a guidebook to living the joys of parenthood.

Juliet clearly has such a way of finding the truest combination of words to convey all the complexities of what she's seeing and thinking and feeling that it's almost telepathic, the way she writes. It just gets in your brain and your heart. You almost don't even need the words, but they are always the perfect ones. In my opinion, most of being a terrific mom is just being real - with yourself, with your kids, with the world. And especially letting your kids be real back. And this book is just that - real. The double-fudge-icing-straight-out-of-the-can-with-your-fingers part is that it's also very funny and warm and wise. It's not just about motherhood (presented as a state of being, not an institution, let me add, and thank goodness for that), it's about catching all the little moments and details of life that often get overlooked and that have great power. Juliet catches them and magnifies them for us so we don't miss anything. You will love this book and the children, Emma and Nathan, whose worlds we enter into. You will want to share it with all the women in your life. You just will. Trust me.
