This book is great! It's a perfect book for parties, car trips, etc. There are questions for everyone at all levels of Brady knowledge. It's so much fun watching others in angst as they desperately try to remember the answer to a question, and even more fun watching someone rushing to answer a question when they swear they don't remember much about the show! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Hilarious - I haven't watched the "Brady Bunch" in years, but I was a bit startled by the way it all came back after reading a few questions. Why do I remember this stuff? Why does the author? As absurd as it is, the memories of such a dumb TV show are great fun.

Wow!, Brady experts beware.

When I got this book I figured I knew every trivia question there was for the Brady's. I was wrong. Where did she come up with this stuff? There is so much detail in this book and it's organized in a way that makes it something you can browse or pass around for trivia questions. I was also impressed with how everything tied back to the episode with all the details from each show. A cool book for any Brady fan.

BRASADA - A Must Read!

As an historical writer, I strongly recommend this finely crafted novel. Mr. Johnson has created a Civil War Drama that readers of the Western genre will thoroughly enjoy. It is cleverly constructed with full-dimensional characters and events that will linger long after the last page. A great read!

From the back cover of the novel: "The author knows firsthand the locale of this action-packed and fast-paced story. He owned and operated a cattle and horse ranch in the Texa brushland wilderness,in the land known as la brasada . . . . the ranch bordered the Rio Grande for nine miles . . . During the Civil War, wagons loaded with cotton left deep ruts while traveling across the ranch into Mexico. The tracks are visible to this day."

From these roots comes Brasada by Don Johnson, a western novel that is interwoven with some fascinating Civil War History - in particular, how the South financed the War by smuggling its cotton into Mexico and getting paid in gold.

This is a real page-turner that has everything a fan of Westerns and Civil War Novels could ask for, and then some. Just a great introduction to the Western genre for new readers. I strongly recommend it for anyone who likes to read good fiction.

The characters are as vivid as those in Lonesome Dove. I hope there is a sequel as the opportunity is there with the gold missing and the key characters still young.

In the tradition of great Western writers such as Louis Lamour and Elmer Kelton, Don Johnson brings the old West to life in vivid detail in his new novel Brasada. Johnson's knack for storytelling and colloquial style transports the reader straight to the harsh brushland of Civil War-era Texas. Unlike many modern western authors, Johnson has chosen not to blur the line between good and bad, creating the most dispicable of villains in Santiago and effecting sympathy for the story's hero Lance Morgan. But these characters, while morally black and white through most of the story, still manage to develop throughout. The story's intriguing plot and colorful characters make Brasada hard to put down and a must for fans of classic Western novels.

For anyone interested in the transition from massed un-aimed firepower to more accurate individual shooting, this is a must have book. Plenty of information on the famous "Baker" rifle as well as its predecessors. The illustrations alone are worth the price of the book. As a reference it can't be beat.

The beginning of real, verified info on the British rifle, and the dispelling of myths about them, and about the men who carried them.

DeWitt Bailey is a thorough scholar, and leaves little to chance or to lore. Unlike other recent books about British riflemen (Phillip Wright's "Rifleman" and Haythornthwaite's "British Rifleman", for example) which rely on traditionally-believed information and guesswork from regimental museums and reenactors for their content, Mr Bailey wields a well-written, easily readable mix of official records, primary sources such as diaries, journals, inspection returns, official correspondence etc., all laid out in assiduous detail, complete with all sources in footnotes and a voluminous bibliography.

Lots of myth busting: The concept of the Ferguson rifle was not invented by Patrick Ferguson. The Baker rifle was not called a Baker rifle in its heyday. The 95th Rifles gave up powder horns very early on- why? Buy the book and you will find out, and, you can trust the info Mr Bailey gives you- it's all backed up with solid research. Would that more writers in this field were like him!

An EXCELLENT Reference Book !!!

For students of antique British military rifles, this is THE sourcebook to buy! I saw a copy at a friend's house and couldn't put it down. It is the best work to date on the subject! Collectors, museum staff, historical artists, and militaria buffs will find a gold mine of information, especially on the Baker rifle. The attention to the small details, such as gun tools, ammunition and actual performance in the field really completed this work. But be warned, you might find yourself humming "Over the Hills and Far Away"!!!

These publishers are the greatest. They consistently top the competition. This book offers so many visual gifts to its readers, and since the quilts are small, the projects are producable within a reasonable amount of time. I just let my eyes meander through the book, and I am inspired to get back to the sewing machine. It is written in a friendly style, without the typical clinical and off putting language that we find in so many other quilt books. The quilts are photographed so clearly with such vibrant colors. I dare anyone to read this book, and not turn directly to her fabric stash and begin dreaming of the next project!

With many of the hiking guides lining my bookself, this one stands out with its unique, user-friendly format. All of the most important information regarding selection of a trail are on easy-to-reference columns of stand-out font along each side of the pages. The supporting narratives fill the remainder of the pages with plenty of detail to give you a clear understanding of exactly what you can expect to encounter, plus ensure that you fully enjoy and appreciate each hike. Despite the title, this book is for all hikers and I would especially recommend it for families with young children. I certainly hope that these authors are considering more publications to cover other areas throughout the Northwest.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book on 'little' outings in Central Oregon. It is a thoughtful approach to walks and hikes in that area with those folks in mind who are not able to do the rigorous hikes that most hiking books focus on. The authors remind us that we need to enjoy the things that we can do rather than bemoan the things that we cannot do. The book is well written and accurate. Having taken several of the hikes myself, I can say that with confidence. The book needs to be taken along on the walk as a good 'tour guide'. I enjoyed the enthusiasm and the humor of the authors. It is a great resource for those with small children, older parents or handicapped friends or family.

I am a world traveler and have lived in Argentina, Columbia, and Israel. It is my understanding that Walks, Hikes and Strolls is for "mature folks". I am a young tourist in the United States for the first time as an adult and I appreciate finding a guide book that is easily understandable and points out many important things in a way that looks out for my safety, my body and my sanity. What a pleasure to be in a strange land and have such competent directions and instructions at my finger tips. I hope that many other people from other countries are as lucky as I have been to come accross this book. Good hiking to everyone!

As a lifelong hiker and adventurer, I highly recommend Johnson and Gray's "Walks, Hikes and Strolls". When I am on a hike, I want to be enjoying nature, focusing on the beauty around me and appreciating the inner peace that comes with this experience. "Walks, Hikes and Strolls" better allows me to relax and get what I want out of a hike because of its simplicity, clarity, and its common-sense approach. This book will allow young and old alike to enter nature with a feeling of security and with the knowledge needed to make the most of the experience. The Fact Finder in the left hand column gives valuable information on miles, elevation, permits needed, trail timeframes and where to obtain maps. The Feasibility Gauge in the right hand column consisely tells trail conditions, facilities, type of exposure and types of use that the trail has.
I can't wait to try out the hikes that are listed!

I purchased this book for my six year old granddaughter but I made certain to read it before sending it on for her birthday.

It is quite a charming book for children (and grownups) who love tea parties. The children not only attend a tea party with their grandparents but they are taught all about how they are expected to act and how to eat properly during the tea party.

The storyline is quite good and the illustrations are beautiful. I am told my granddaughter liked it very much. I would definitely purchase it for any child but also note that tea parties we have at home do not have to be so formal.

Children's Tea & Etiquette: Brewing Good Manners in Young Minds is more than a simple picturebook - it is a thoughtful etiquette manual to instruct readers in how to properly enjoy afternoon tea. Many of the social graces discussed extend into the practice of the general world. From basic polite phrases such as "please", "thank you", "may I", and "you're welcome", to what RSVP means, to table manners for a tea party (such as not picking up one's napkin until the host has), to the importance of writing a thank-you note, Children's Tea & Etiquette is highly recommended as an instructional tool for preparing young people to do well in formal situations. Beautiful, soft pastel color illustrations by Dawn Peterson, a handful of recipes, and notes on the history of tea parties round out this good manners primer.

I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I picked up "Chippewa Customs" by Frances Densmore. Written in the early part of the 20th century, it's a book that has remained readable and certainly enjoyable throughout the years.

Frances Densmore paints a very vivid picture of the Chippewa/Ojibwe people, from how they picked their names, to what they wore in winter, to the fact that they liked fish-heads as a delicacy, or the sleeping arrangements inside the family wigwam. It's absolutely screaming-full of all those little details that you're constantly trying to find but never can seem to put your finger on.

They're right here, of course! My only complaint is that the ceremonies (Marriage, births, etc) are only touched upon barely. I would have liked to hear more about those particular aspects.

Time, Space and AFrican American Transcendence

Matthew V. Johnson's brilliant novel follows the literary and mythological conventions of "odyssey" and "return" respectively wherein we are shown various artifacts and scenes from the protagonist's past as he drives to a family homecoming located in an idyllic southern town. But the book is doing much more than what is suggested through these conventions. One immediately has the sense that the return entails much more than his physical movement through geographical space but, as well, a much profound spiritual movement through the temporal recesses of his identity. The reader finds himself encountering the possibility for some sort of yearned after salvation--not only of the soul but the body and all its flesh. Through the descriptions of this later movement the reader's experience of lived temporality is altered through the way Johnson captures the tragic possibility of entering into the mode of transcendence in the modality of ordinary black life. This is what makes this a profoundly religious text that by situating itself in the apprehension of nature and sensuality. This challenges more superficial depictions of black religion confined to the sphere of church. This book is reminiscent of Jean Toomer's Cane and the literary counterpart to DuBois' description in Souls of the ecstasy that forms a part of authentic black spirituality. Johnson's Odysseus finds this in a number of poignant and fleeting moments of reflection where past, present, and future converge to invoke in the reader a transformed apprehension of the transcendent in black life. This is must read for literary lovers and Black Religious scholars.

Cicada's Song is a must read! The poetic flow of the book hooks you and reels you into the lives of the Cunningham family to share in their triumphs, sorrows, and fears. The author gives the world a glimpse of the African American life that is reminiscent of DuBois' Souls of Black Folk and Zora Neal Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God. You won't want to put it down!

As a student of African American History, I consider Cicada's Song to be a classic piece of literature on social life among African Americans, particularly in the South. Dr. Johnson's unique portrayal of life in the African American community touches upon all facets of life, i.e., family, religion, hopes, tragic losses, and aspirations of humanity. Having read this book, I believe that Dr. Johnson's work sheds some needed light on particular social conventions and attitudes, which are often considered taboo in the South. I highly recommend this book to all persons who desire to be entertained, informed, and inspired.

Anyone interested in thinking deeply about their moral world and getting in touch with the spiritual life of African Americans in the age of segregation should read this book.
