My kids are two and one and they LOVE this book. It has such a catchy tune and they really enjoy singing along with the CD. It also introduces them to words they ordinarily wouldn't use, such as thyphoid, pneumonia, and colic! I bought three more copies for friends and their school! We have most of John Lithgow's kids' books and this is our favorite by far.

Marsupial Sue is a great song/book for kids. The message of being you is important, and the song sticks with the kids. Having the CD to hear John Lithgow narrate is a must to do this book justice.

My granddaughter introduced me to this book...and it has become my favorite piece of children's literature! I try to give it as a gift to as many children as possible. Perfect for the three year old....and great music for moms to listen to over and over and over...THE GREATEST!

John does it again! My 3-4 year old preschoolers LOVE this book! I love this book. I find myself actually singin along with the book and the kids absolutely love it. One of the best books I have bought them! (and his other ones too!)

I LOVE this book and CD. I have been privileged to use it in my car when having play day with some of the local children aged 2-4. The CD is a big hit! Mr. Lithgow sings this song with the most wonderful exuberance which catches and holds the attention of young and old alike. I find myself singing along! What a wonderful work.

When I started out reading this book, I was very skeptical, and I did not want to read something, that was set in the 1800's. I was pleasantly surprised though, because of what I learned about those times. I loved the characters and thought that they just fit together, especially Lorna and Jens. The book was romantic, but definitely had tragic and horrible moments, as well. This was a great novel, with an expected ending, but I really did enjoy this book a lot.

and this book proves she is at the top! I enjoyed this book even though it was a tear jerker.

Levyrle Spencer can just make you feel what her characters are feeling so effortlessly that you laugh and cry with them and almost forget that they are not real.
Lorna and Jens are one of her most real characters and their situation is also so real. The way they are helpless against their attraction to each other even after knowing it would be disastrous was so beautifully written that you could feel the sexual tension yourself whenever they were together.
Lorna was a rich girl but not spoilt at all. And Jens was poor but too ambitious and proud to become one of the servents in house for Lorna. Their attraction, like it always happens in Levyrle Spencer's romances, grew with each of their meetings to an extent that it was almost unbearable for me(and i suppose all the readers). It became something too strong and inevitable to ignore anymore. I especially liked the scene when Lorna asked Jens if he was ever going to kiss her, "I have considered ordering you to, but it didn't work before." How sweet!
People like Lorna's parents could make something so beautiful and rare into something cheap and dirty. Her mother was so convincing that she made Lorna question her own feelings. Her mother used her shame and guilt as a weapon against her love for Jens and made her give up hope. Jens was angry with her for giving up and i don't blame him.
The ending was Great! It warmed my heart to see Lorna stand up for her love and her child without any shame or guilt.
This is one of those books that you have got to read again and i definately will.

I LOVED this book!!! It is the love story of Lorna, a rich girl (though not spoiled at all), living in the high society of Minnesota in the late 1800s, and Jens, the kitchen handyman, hired by her father to build him the fastest boat possible. The characters come to life in this book - LaVyrle Spencer at her best, so very well written that you can feel their pain, etc. Heartwrenching and very romantic. Reminds me of "Titanic" with the whole upper class/lower class theme. I can't say enough about this book. I just couldn't put it down, it is really that good!!! It is definitely one of my favorites and I recommend it to everyone!!!

The setting of November of the Heart is Minnesota, 1895. Lorna Barnett, the central figure, is the beautiful eighteen-year-old daughter of Commodore Gideon Barnett, a proud man who's a member of the White Bear Yacht Club. The Barnetts are high on the social ladder, and the Barnetts expect Lorna to marry the handsome, well-off Taylor DuVal. However, one summer at their lake house, Lorna unexpectedly falls in love with the kitchenhand, twenty-five-year-old Jens Harkens, the Norweigan, and they begin a passionate, risky relationship. They both know that if they are discovered, Jens will be banished from the lakehouse. Gideon Barnett is passionate about racing boats, and after bitterly losing a race, Jens suggests that he knows how to build a better boat (after all, he is a Norweigan), so he is commissioned to build a boat for the next race. However, his tenure is cut short as his and Lorna's relationship is exposed, and Lorna's life is almost ruined with scandal.

A poignant, passionate read that deals with love at its cruelest and at its heartwarming best, but a lot of times, I felt like the plot was too stagnant and uninteresting. There are not a lot of driving moments/action that make the plot move forward, and the ending is resolved a little too neatly. However, if one does not mind the verbiage and the intense sexual scenes (if one is not comfortable with these kinds of things), then one can enjoy this cute "coming of age" novel for Lorna Barnett and her undying love for her Norweigan.

It is one thing to read a successful coach's leadership story written by the coach, but it is quite another experience to read the personal accounts of a coach that other coaches look up to, and to have those accounts reinforced and complemented by commentaries from peers, players, competitors, and assistant coaches from throughout that revered coach's life and career. This excellent book is that other experience about a once-in-a-lifetime man, coach, teacher, mentor, leader, and winner in the most important game of all - the game of life.

The book's fifteen chapters are organized into three parts ("The Foundation for My Leadership" (Wooden's legendary "Pyramid of Success"), "Lessons in Leadership," and "Lessons from My Notebook"). Each chapter finishes with a summary called, "Rules to Live By," which did a great job of highlighting the chapter's main points. Particularly enjoyable were the many great inspirational quotes, passages, and anecdotes that perfectly reinforced and complemented Wooden's text. Also, while the third part was completely devoted to Wooden's famous notebooks, excerpts from those notebooks (typed and hand-written) were included throughout the book and added a great 'personal touch' to the overall contents.

There are many "So-and-So on Leadership" books in the market, but none can match the richness of character and the unequalled quality of the lifetime body of work specified and implied in the simple title of "Wooden on Leadership."

Anyone who wants tips on living on and off the court must read this book.

John Wooden is a qualified success and his book demonstrates how others can be successful. Wonderfully written and well documented with examples of Wooden's method and how to apply the pyramid of success. If you want a map for success, this is the book to read.

The book has some good ideas, but it is full of one liners. It gets boring at times.
On the good side - you have a lot of one liners to say and put on posters.

After taking a class where much time and focus was spent studying leadership I began reading John Wooden's book titled Wooden on Leadership. I found this book extremely interesting as Hall of Fame coach, John Wooden, allowed readers to understand his very own philosophy of leadership.
As many may know, Coach Wooden is a legend. As a basketball coach at UCLA He coached four perfect season and led his athletes to ten national champions in twelve years. With many accolades bestowed upon him it is interesting to see just how he become so successful and what actions helped him to reach his goals. This Coach of the Century (named by ESPN) and basketball hall of famer explains just how he reached success throughout his entire novel Wooden on Leadership.
Filled with personal beliefs, lessons, and excerpts from his personal notebook Wooden and co-author Steve Jamison work together to explain the leadership qualities Wooden used on the basketball court that can help make any business successful.
The novel begins with his attempts to reach "Competitive Greatness" by explaining his "pyramid of success" which include his fundamental leadership qualities and characteristics. He also thoroughly discusses such aspects of teamwork, desire, confidence, and improvement.
Wooden on Leadership focuses mainly on key points Wooden has derived from coaching basketball for many years of his life, but such aspects explained in the book, he insists, can help make any team, business, or corporation a success. This book is filled with great lessons, notes, and even stories about how and why Wooden believes what he does.
I considered this book a very easy read. At times, I found myself so thoroughly into his lessons that I found it hard to put down. Each chapter starts with a new lesson to help lead any business to success and ends with personal recollections from those who have been under the guidance of Coach Wooden in the past. Each recollection provided by those who have worked with Coach Wooden serve as direct support in the belief that his lessons and methods have worked in the past and if applied correctly, will continue to bring about success in the future. All aspects of this book were, as a coach myself, easy to relate to and understand. Wooden on Leadership also provides many great quotes and phrases to help inspire or motivate the team you work and communicate with.
I would recommend this book to any leader, coach, or teacher who is responsible for guiding those around them. It provides first hand insight on leadership and direct lessons to cultivate success. This coach is one of the most winningst coaches in basketball history and can now add another `success' to his lists of accomplishments with this particular book!

This book takes a very realistic approach from someone who has lived the ins and outs of importing. The book is easy to read, offers orignal perspectives, and is a must read for anyone who is considering a distribution business!

If your business is import or export this is a MUST HAVE. If you run a small business it also can be helpful.

This book should be essential reading for anyone thinking of starting an import company. That's because it doesn't just discuss the mechanics- the import brokers and customs requirements etc., - but how to make sure that the business can be successful and profitable.

I'm still a half-wit. I mean it provided plenty of big words and concepts that I never heard of before. I was expecting a book that you opened up and was just money. Do they have that book? I would so buy that. Well, I mean unless it cost more to buy the book than was printed inside of it.

Any way, it was kinda interesting.

The better books dealing with startup/product introduction outline the various possibilities and options--they leave you with many questions. John Spiers tells you exactly what to do and what not to do. Very rare. Very valuable.

The Journey is an easily readable, comfortable and understandable book. It is filled with a very special man's understanding, appreciation, and love for God and his fellowman. I contains a lot of common sense wisdom gained over a lifetime of serving God. I enjoyed it's insights. Reading it has made me a better person. I have a greater feeling of being loved by God despite all my faults. I also bought the book as gifts for other family members.

In the late autumn of his life, evangelist Billy Graham has given us a wonderful gift.

The book is carefully structured in four parts. In "The Journey Begins", he explores the primary questions of life. Lewis, is a must-read for anyone seeking truthful answers to life's painful and confusing questions, as well as for Christians looking to deepen their faith. I didn't find a single false word in it and will likely re-read it more than once in the years to come.

And even if there are no years to come, even if my journey should end tonight, I know it ends well. For anyone seeking peace in life's journey, the truths in this book could be invaluable assets. Five shining stars.

I was very happy with my selection of the "Journey" and very pleased with the good service I received on the delivery. We are using the book as a guide in a Women's Bible Study at our church and are currently in the 4th Chapter, as we discontinued our study for the Christmas holiday and will resume on Jan. 8, 2008.

Fight The Good FightProbably the last book written by the greatest Preacher of our day. Life truly is a journey and not the destination as Dr. Graham has so aptly declared in his teachings throughout the years.

I previously ordered 7 copies of "The Journey" by Billy Graham. Our men's group is in the midst of studying the book for the next 30 weeks at a weekly breakfast devotional. It is packed with wonderful guidance on how we are to live our lives. The book is perfectly divided into manageable sections that are just right for from a 30 to 50 minute devotion. It also is great in that it is written in such a way as to encourage participation. It is easily understood while at the same time elegant in its delivery of ideas. It is suitable for both those new to the faith as well as for "old" Christian soldiers.

This book really opened my eyes to reincarnation. I would recommended it to anyone that is unsure and needs proof into the field!

My husband and I were fortunate enough to experience a slice of serendipity when visiting friends in Connecticut. We had ventured out to visit a quaint little cigar shop and that's where we met Mr. Keene. I had never heard of him or his work, and after learning that we were from Upson County, Georgia, he was more than happy to share with us his experiences and convictions regarding his connections to John B. Gordon. The author is quite an interesting fellow--very personable and entertaining. The opportunity to meet and talk to the author has made this book much more meaningful and authentic for me. I highly recommend it to both believers and skeptics alike. It is quite the read!

Mr. Jeff Keene had provided his own past life in a way understandable and as historically accurate as possible to his earlier life as a CSA General John B. Gordon. There were some very touching places in his story which literally brought tears to my eyes like the following -
(1) The place where he explains about the spontaneous feeling of sadness he felt when he stood next to his daughter's grave from his previous life and who had passed off when quite young even before ever being named.
(2) The place where he very humbly stays behind thinking of himself as quite junior when compared to other army commanders on the lines before being called by General Hancock during Grant's funeral to lead the funeral procession alongside him in the front lines.
(3) The place where he vividly reminisces his past life incident when he saved the life of the Federal Division Commander Francis Barlow.
On the whole the author comes through as a very great gentleman and one worthy of emulation in both of his forms as Gen Gordon as well as the current Fire Chief Jeff Keene.
May God provide him all prosperity in the present and the yonder!

What more can I say. I have read many books on this subject, and there are many of them out there, but this I must say is the best ever. It takes you from the very start of his search to present day. If you are looking for your own past lives, this book can help you. It gives you ideas of how and where you can start looking for yourself. It lets you know how a journey of this type can affect your present life, good and bad. It also lets you know how past lives influances the thoughts, actions and memories you have today, even your dreams. I could not put this book down from the moment I started reading it, till I was finished with it. It takes alot for someone to come forward like this and share what they went through, and I must say thank you to Jeffrey for doing so. Martin Huffman

From the time I received this book I couldn't put it down. It is a must read for history buffs as well as for those who are interested in reencarnation.

The Birth to Five Book: Confident Childrearing Right from the Start

I love Mister Rogers' writing style; his straightforwardness which was also gentle. This book is written in the simple language that he's known for -- even younger children will understand. Read it to yourself and dare, as he did, to be yourself. Read it to your children to encourage them in the "important things to remember" in life.

We purchased this book for a gift to our preschool teachers. They really enjoyed it.

This is a very thoughtful book that includes the wit and wisdom of Mr. Rogers, in an easy-to-read format that is both interesting and educational. I can't imagine anyone who doesn't know who Mr. Rogers is. Like virtually all American Children of the '80s & '90s I grew up watching Mr. Rogers. Of course I didn't know it then, but looking back, Mr. Rogers was a very unique person. Mr. Rogers was perhaps the only man in modern pop-culture who was able to speak to kids in such an honest and intelligent way. Mr. Rogers taught me the importance of compassion and the importance of never taking anyone (or anything) for granted. I recommend this book to anyone with a heart and a mind.

A nice little book full of simple, innocuous sayings displaying a keen grasp of the obvious. But by and large, I didn't find anything that really grabbed me, anything that made me think "Wow!" I did find one or two exceptions to this. Rogers writes:

"Sometimes, though, I wonder if we confuse strength with other words - like aggression, and even violence."

I wonder what Mister Rogers would have made of politicians defining "strength" as "support for war."

this ought to be a required textbook in all the schools and colleges in the world.it is that good without a doubt.

John Fischer takes look at the common flaws created in our sin nature in a head-on, yet encouraging way typical of all his work.

Every chapter will have you saying "Yeah! That's me!"

This is an excellent book as it points out how we all constantly judge people to either make ourselves feel better or to justify certain things we do. Most people are not aware that they are doing this that extensively, but they are. To make the best effort to eliminate this bad habit from our lives we must rely on God's Grace and not try to go it alone as we will end up failing and then justifying our failures instead of relying on the grace of God for forgiveness and the strength to keep on trying. We all need to improve ourselves as people and Christians and not compare ourselves to others as this hides our need to improve. Read the book. I am not explaining it that well.

I scanned the book, looked over the chapter titles, etc. I sat down and began to read. A catchy review title popped into my head, "Just ONE Problem". I continued to read. The Book is great. The style is easy to read. The chapters are well laid out. The scholarship is above average. I WAS going to say that it had just ONE problem, those who most need to read it are least likely to do so. There's nothing that will make a Pharisee much angrier than use of the word "Pharisee".

THEN the book shifted gears. I began to realize that it was not so much aimed at correcting the negative actions done by angry religious pharisees as offering hope for greater maturity to those willing to accept God's grace. The key to this book is not the flamboyant title, "12 Steps for the Recovering Pharisee" but the smaller subtitles, "like me: Finding Grace to Live Unmasked".

The person who most needed to read this book WAS reading it and preparing a review! I am glad that someone gave this book to me. I suggest that everyone willing to read it should, but read it for yourself, not to throw literary stones at others.

This is a book for everyone. In fact, if you don't think you need to read it then you probably need to most of all.
The setup of the book is a play off of the classic 12 step programs used by AA and such. It is a tongue in cheek approach that turned me off initially. But in the end I found it to be a very appropriate and efficient way for the author to organize his ideas.

THe book was okay. By the time I got to the 6th step I had a headache. I know we are all sinful at the heart and are capable of even murder but some the chapters seemed to create areas of guilt that mature Christian should have overcome through Christ. Even though I know that we all sin and need to be examining ourselves daily for cleansing I did not feel cleansed after reading the book. It felt like a pharisee rebuking another pharisee. We all deal with pharisee-like behavior but I think reading the Bible is the way to deal with it.....not a "12 step" program from another pharisee's mind. Go to God's Word!!!!!!

Okay, I admit it. I'm a sucker for golf stories. This is the first one I've ever seen dealing with the college golf scene, which all by itself practically guaranteed I'd read it through no matter how rough the mechanics of the writing were. Happily, the author is very competent. Errors were few and far between, and none were of the "I'm a rank beginner" variety.
The narrator, whose name is Otis, is also on the team and his acute eye for detail drew me in from the first word. This opening is long on tell and short on show, but what the hey, Otis is watching the final holes of a qualifying round preceding the weekend's match, and the players aren't saying much. They're too busy trying to win.
On the green is Otis' friend and roommate, Roberto. Roberto lost confidence in his putter and hasn't made the last three matches, but here he somehow drops his lame duck putt to win by a stroke and it's off to Las Vegas for the weekend match.
To date, the entire cast hasn't been on stage, but those who have are well drawn. There's arrogant team captain Paul Sloan, whose convertible has a motorized trunk and who's as obnoxious as you'd expect a rich preppie to be; laid back coach Stony, whose idea of how to settle conflict is to drop two balls and whoever hits it closest gets things his way; and of course Roberto and Roberto's club pro brother Cesar.
The excerpt ends too soon, but I'd bet a bundle John Ochwat has a sizzler of a plot waiting for his readers. I'd definitely pick this one up if I saw if on a newsstand.

because I want to keep reading this this elegant, spare novel that probes the emotional costs of class in the U.S. during late capitalism. The gaming tables and the game of golf represent two faces of class mobility (or the lack thereof). Will Roberto golf his way out of the working class? If so, will his victory ring as hollow as the trunk slamming on the narrator's aged Honda? The American Dream is alive, but not well.

While not a golfer myself, I find the sport interesting to watch and enjoyed the characters here. The words are well-written and the story is engaging. It was descriptive enough to put me into the story while using my own imagination, too. I look forward to being able to read the entire novel.

Not being a die hard golfer like so many, I was a bit apprehensive about what the book would be about. But love the writing style (love the wit)and has already made me smile. Looking forward to reading more as the characters are amusing and seems that this will be a fun read.

I was intrigued by the title of John Ochwat's novel and expected to read about society mavens in search of the ultimate clubbe experience. Of course, the title refers to a golfer who hasn't got the exact club for the precise distance needed to reach the green on his/her next shot. The particular golfers involved, Otis and Roberto, are presented in opening paragraphs in a way that makes the reader want to know more about them and be a part of their efforts. Trapped 'between clubs' requires adjustment to achieve a goal...perhaps Ochwat's metaphor for the struggles Otis and Roberto face in their young, uncertain lives. The writing style is flowing, natural and women readers will not be put off by a lot of posturing and testosterone one might otherwise associate with male athletes whose efforts (early on) simply 'skate past the hole' like a wayward three-foot putt. I look forward to learning more about how their lives unfold and the game of golf is Ochwat's perfect venue from which to view a well-written 'slice' of life!
