My 4th grade son who does not love to read absolutely loves this series. I can't get him to stop reading; he is reading instead of TV, video games, outside, etc. I read a few chapters of each of the 4 and they are well written, funny, and full of action/adventure. Great books!

A Lot Of Information On Four (4) Pages.

The most up to date I have ... but still behind the times. Had names for elements up to 109. I know that element 110 and 111 have been named but the chart have them unnamed. Element 118 is on the chart even though the discoverers have removed their claim of discovery due to errors in their detection equipment.
The chart has the usual information on the elements as most charts will have ... Name, Atomic Symbol, Atomic Number, Atomic Weight, Density, Electron Configuration, Oxidation States, Melting Point, Boiling Point and more on all of the elements up to 103.
All this info folds up and will fit in a standard 3 ring note book.

A rich, durable, and handy reference of the Periodic Table and the properties of the elements

This is a terrific version of the periodic table for the serious science student. It has the atomic number, atomic weight, electronegativity, atomic radii and ionic radii, elctron affinity, and 1st ionization potential. It even defines what these terms mean, but if you can use the information, you already know. This chart covers the front two pages of this laminated chart (quite durable).

The back of the chart has eight versions of the table that cover enthalpy of atomization, natural forms (solid, liquid, gas), molar volume, density, enthalpy of vaporization, boiling point, enthalpy of fusion, melting point, specific heat capacity, and thermal conductivity. The other back page provides some chemical properties of the elements and common uses.

All in all, a very interesting and useful chart. It might be overwhelming if all you are looking for is the name, symbol, and atomic number, though.

As I noted, it is laminated for durability and it is also three-hole-punched so it will fit easily in a student's notebook.

Its probably not fair that I write this review so early as I am only on chapter 3. But... this is a most informative and entertaining book to read. There is obviously a good collaboration between Sibley and PJ as much of it is not only written with PJ's cooperation, but in his words from personal in depth interviews. Great personal family photos also.

I ordered my copy from AmazonUK. Its too bad it is not more readily available here in the U.S. but do try and get a copy. You won't be sorry.

The book is on the shelves in New Zealand right now. It's a remarkable journey he has made, from struggling apprentice printer to mogul.

The book, like his movies, is long, and rewarding for it. The emphasis is more on pre-LOTR work and life, and it really focuses on the movies - no business or personal exposes here.

Three things struck me:
The first is his overwhelming passion for movies - passion that led him to just do it, rather than learn first by going to university. The results speak volumes, and he is in good company with this approach.

The second is that he is a leader with an ability to gather large amounts of people around him - from the first movie made with a bunch of mates on weekends, to LOTR with over 24,000 kiwis involved.

And the third is that he is an astute businessman - the book only hints at this, but it is clear from the continuous improvement in his Film Commission submissions, and the improvement in the deals struck with New line and Universal.

Read it.

As a child I loved this book of nonsensical rhymes. I was so happy that I remembered the title and that Amazon was able to find a brand new copy of this book which was written in 1918.

The illustrations are so captivating, from another era. I am now in my mid-60's and can still remember several of the rhymes. I wanted to have this for my grandson. Now that I have received it and have gone through it page by page, I am going to order it for my friends' grandchildren. It is thoroughly charming.

Pierre Koenig was one of the finest architects of the mid-20th Century. His 1960 Stahl House (well illustrated here) has been seen by millions of people in movies, television and especially, television ads. It's the glass enclosed living room/pavilion with a swimming pool in the foreground and all of Los Angeles as a background. This small Taschen book, part of a rather large series, talks about his career and buildings and is well worth the purchase price of $9.99. If your're a fan of the Arts and Architecture Case Study houses, as I am, you will love this little book.

I first heard about "pistol packin' mama" when I was a child. They played the song on the radio then announced that Molly Jackson had died. My mother told me then that she was my granny's half-sister. What child is not going to be fascinated by being related to someone with that sort of nickname? My grandma, Lona Isabelle, is the Garland that did not leave Kentucky. She married Matt Doolin and proceeded to have lots of children. At least one of her sons was killed in the coal mine. She told me lots of stories but never once mentioned Molly. My cousins and I were understandably curious but could not find out anything about her. We saw Jim and Sarah when they came to visit, but they never mentioned her either. We have all tried to find out about her in various libraries with very little luck. I have just started using the internet and this was one of the first things I looked up.I found this book and ordered it, hoping it would give me some idea about who she was. I received the book yesterday and could not put it down. Obviously all of my family will be as interested as I am. I think it will be fascinating to anyone interested in labor relations, women's roles in history, or Appalachian living. It was well worth the money to me and you will be getting more orders from our family. I want to thank Shelly Romalis for taking the time to research and write this book.

My Book Club (Ladies Of Literature) read this book and it was one of the best we have read this year so far. Once I picked up the book, I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Sister Jordan had us all looking at our own Church family wondering who fits into the characters and makes you take a look at yourself as well. A big "Amen" to you Sister Jordan for an excellent job done on your first book and I will be looking forward to what you have in stored for us next.

Jordan gets an "Amen" for debut novel Playin' Church

Whoever says what happens in the dark WON'T come to the light need to read the debut novel of Jane Jordan PLAYIN' CHURCH. She hits this one out of the park with her realistic portrayal of what church life is like for many, filled with the sincere and the sinful, the honest and the hypocritical. The reader will laugh as well as cry as they read about loyal church members who find out they had the "holy goose" and not the "Holy Ghost", while others have their hopes dashed by a deacon with a crack pipe and a insurance payout of less than $50.00

Jordan shows in this inspirational tale that by holding on to our faith we might not be immuned to drama, but we can weather is better than those without it. Kudos to her for giving us a discussion piece that will go from bible class to the dinner table with ease. Can't wait to see what she has next to keep us thinking and thankful for talented writers like herself.

Interesting Interviews with Playwrights

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very interesting to read the Q&A's with some of Americas greatest playwrights. I especially enjoyed the interviews with Edward Albee, Neil Simon and Wendy Wasserstein.
These playwrights answered a variety of questions. Everything from working with actors and directors, to how to handle the critics. Even giving background on how these playwrights got into writing in the first place. There are a variety of topics covered.
A very informative book for anyone interested in the art and business of writing plays. You will learn directly from the playwrights experiences and stories.

These interviews can't be beat!

I am the Author of Poetic Flow: Poetry For Your Soul. I put over 30 years of poetry into this book. From my writing in the beginning to my writings now. My book ventures into many things, yet I keep it real from beginning to end. You will laugh, maybe cry, be encouraged, inspired, uplifted and motivated by the words I write in many of my poems. I hope that you find my book an excellent read, and possibly a guide to some of your situations or circumstances you may be currently facing right now. A Lost Opportunity
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-01
This is really good book on a complex subject. The Popular Front was an effort by the French Left to unify in order to fight fascism. It was also an opportunity to lessen inequality in French society. It ultimately failed because it was a negative alliance rather than a positive one and because some of the politicians lacked the patriotism to forget their differences even momentarily. Jackson does a good job of navigating the reader through the complexities of French politics in the 1930's. He also helps us to understand the major personalities involved. He is particularly adept at describing the strengths and weaknesses of Leon Blum, Maurice Thorez, and Edouard Daladier, the three leaders of the Front. Additionally, the book describes the high hopes of the working class and some intellectuals when the Popular Front was victorious and how these hopes were dashed. There is even a brief look at Popular Front cinema. Anyone interested in French politics in the inter-war years or in the question as to why France was so thoroughly defeated in 1940 should read this book.

Superb overview

While not a work of primary research, this book will likely form the definitive overview of the Popular Front for many years. Evenhanded, balanced and careful in its judgements, Jackson has mastered the huge literature on the Front and presents it in an acessible volume. This book has no serious rival in English.
