This book is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the best children's Christmas book i've seen. This will be the 3rd copy I have purchased. The first was when my first child was born in 80' she loves it still to this day, and after she had begged and pleaded for me to hand it down to her (i cd not part w/ it), I found a copy on-line so I purchased it. Now she is having my first grandchild so she has requested that I try to find her another copy so she could always keep hers and have one to pass on to her child as well. Both copies I have received still have a slight smell on several of the stickers, and that is what makes this book so special the memory is still brought back with the smells and she LOVES it. This is a very good investment that produces a lifetime of memories in such a small package!

Excellent Resource on Christians Who Made a Difference
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-11

This book is an excellent resource on the following Christian Heroes, most who are/were missionaries:

Mary McLeod Bethune
William Bradford
Brother Andrew
George Washington Carver
Jonathan & Rosalind Goforth
Billy Graham
Betty Greene
Clarence Jones
Gordon McLean
Lottie Moon
Luis Palau
St. Patrick
Rochunga Pudaite
Mother Teresa
Charles Tindley

The book's format covers a 2 page biography on the hero, then follows up with separate chapters on character qualities specific to the individual (i.e. George Washington Carver's biography is followed by chapters on perseverance, resourcefulness, and service). An added bonus is that there is a list of all the character qualities in the back of the book. So if you're looking for examples of a specific character quality the list is a wonderful resource.

I found this book very interesting, especially since I have never heard of the majority of these people. The age level for those who would be interested would probably be 3rd grade and higher. There are no pictures, other than drawings of the person at the beginning of the biography, so it could be quite boring for preschoolers and early elementary grades.

Great Guide

My husband is from Wyoming. I got this guide to find new things to do when visiting the in-laws. There were sights and activities around his home town that he and his sister had never been to. The recommendations for food and lodging were very good. Some of the businesses are no longer but that is a risk for any printed guide. I was very happy with this guide.

Hidden Wyoming appears in its third edition to provide selective recommendations and reviews of lodgings, sightseeing, and special dining experiences throughout the state. A "user friendly" and recommended pick for destination-bound travelers.

When the world is so busy and you don't even have time to think, you can go to this book, sit down, and relax and forget all of your worldly concerns. A lot of people in the world today have forgotten what is really important in our lives. When asked that questions all would reply that their family and friends are most important but too many other things always seem to get in their way. This book talks about all the important things in life and is a great book to read over and over. I've bought ten copies and are giving them away to my family, friends and customers. Hopefully, this book will touch many peoples lives and will make the world just a little better place to live. If you wnat your heart warmed and your soul cleansed get a copy of this awesome book today. You won't be disappointed. It should be on every home's coffee table. Can't wait for their next book to be published.

This is a cute book for the child that is an animal lover. A donation was made to petfinder.com and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Aunt Mary's Doghouse, that's great. The book isn't illustrated, but done with photographs. It's about a girl finding the right pet for her, and it's a pet from a shelter. If you love this book and love cats, check out "Hobo Finds A Home" which is about a stray cat who found a home.

This book is a nice, simple story with a great message: when you want to get a pet, adopt! The pictures are lovely and the book was written by a teenager, which makes it appealing and lively for young children. I highly recommend it.

Conceptual and at the same time practical being powerful to enterprises

Review Date: 2007-12-26
This book is very didactic and conceptual and furthermore brings to the enterprise practical concepts on how to apply those in the companies in order to increase its profitability. The idea of organizing the company strategy and getting the track on how to apply on the processes flow is very worth and attractive and powerful. The teaching of how to identify the main wastes in the processes, those which in most of the times are hidden is essential. This book is indicated to those who are interested on how to increase the company efficiency and profitability in a consistent way.

The absolute best on hoshin kanri

Review Date: 2006-09-09
Tom Jackson's practical and valuable insights are rivaled only by the importance and benefits of applying Hoshin Kanri. Hoshin Kanri as a practice has been applied as part of lean transformation efforts for quite a long time. But there were still very limited resources for people to learn more about it. Tom's work in this arena is extensive, and throughout all of his books (others are Implementing a Lean Management System and Corporate Diagnosis), he has focused on tools and systems for management to use in a lean company. This is the only book you'll need - I highly recommend picking it up.

One of the things I most appreciate about this book is how it integrates hoshin kanri with the Plan-Do-Check-Act process. This of course is the intent of hoshin kanri, but the linkage was never presented so clearly.

A frighteningly good gamebook

... So begins your adventure in House of Hades, Steve Jackon's excellent Fighting Fantasy horror gamebook. The entire adventure has you trying to survive the horrors of this vile mansion, desperate to find a way out. However, not all that you encounter will be evil... The gamebook is well written, with many encounters that are delightfully scary; so much so that there is a "FEAR" score to keep track of. Each time you get frightened, you add points to your fear score. If it reaches a certain amount (one roll of a die plus 6, determined before you begin), then you are frightened to death, and the adventure is over. All in all, House of Hades is one of the better Fighting Fantasy gamebooks. The ending even provides a surprise twist.

Read "House of Hades" for a different kind of scare

Of all the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, House of Hades is unique in two main ways. First of all, it takes place in the present time and "real" world: no dragons to fight or spaceships to fly. Second, it is based on genuinely creepy stuff ala "Amityville Horror" and "The Exorcist": grotesque demons, fanatic cultists and dark rituals. The plot and story itself are scary: putting it in a gamebook with you in the middle elevates it to another level! Don't read this one alone, even with the lights on!

The collaborative effort of authors Mark D. Sanders and Tia Sillers, and illustrators Buddy Jackson and Karinne Caulkins, I Hope You Dance! is an enthusiastically energetic picture book featuring exaggerated, contrasting color illustrations and off-the-wall style text. Sheer exuberance erupts from the pages celebrating the joy of movement and life, in this impressive and upbeat rhyming read for young folks.

Adults can get a kick out of this, too.

Absolutely delightful. The kids can't help squeeling with glee over the characters. Every page is a delicious surprise that dances with color and sprightly munchkins. The words are rhymy, rythmic, and full of fun. It has an inspirational tone that goes down easily. The kids will read it with you over and over.

"Jackson Finds A Home" is a delight. Ms. Neveloff captures the thoughts and emotions of Jackson a charming dog who loves table scraps, secret treats and belly rubs. Most of all he wants a home. But will he find someone who is a good match? The answer is yes. He finds the perfect match and the book "Jackson Finds A Home" is a perfect match for young beginning readers. This book is enjoyable to read and reread. It rings true to life and is appealing to children and adults. My granddaughter loves Jackson. You will to. Hopefully "Jackson Finds A Home" will find a home in many homes and the author will continue to write books about this adorable, lovable dog. I strongly recommend "Jackson Finds a Home" to all dog lovers.

The Price of Fame

Review Date: 2008-10-05
Eve wants to be famous. She wants to be seen and heard, not just by adoring fans, but also by her parents. She also really wants the lead role in her middle school production of Cabaret. When she doesn't get the part, she learns a lesson or two in humility.

When she's on stage, Eve can shine, lose track of time, and be someone else. But how can she do that if she's not the star? With a cast varied in talent and attitude - a shy leading lady whose performance has to be coaxed out of her, a snotty girl who has her eye on the lead, an overweight class clown, a jock, and many more players, including Eve's best friends helping out behind the scenes as stage manager and pianist, and Eve doubting her own abilities and importance in what she thinks is a small part - rehearsals can be difficult, to say the least.

Mariah Fredericks has written an entertaining, enjoyable book with a realistic protagonist. Eve can be confident and self-assured one moment only to pull back the next. She is easily distracted from her studies and would rather be on stage than sitting at her desk. She makes both good and bad choices and has to deal with what she's done, for better or for worse. She's not a perfect student, and she's not a perfect performer. She is selfish at times, and her stubborn streak is a mile wide. She may have to get her ego in check sometimes, but she's never conceited. Like Mr. Courtney, the play's director, Fredericks pushes her protagonist and lets her yell, scream, cry, get mad, get upset, and get embarrassed. The fights that Eve has with her parents will ring (true) in readers' ears, especially adult who have been on both sides of that battle as both the parent and the kid.

Give In the Cards: Fame to the future stars that you know and love. Note that this is the second book in the In the Cards trilogy. Grab up the other books, In the Cards: Love and In the Cards: Life. Also get Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen by Dyan Sheldon and Dramarama by E. Lockhart while you're at it.

Will the Show Go On?

"I want big-time, bright-lights, major, mondo success. I want to be one of those people you see at awards shows, the ones who win so many Grammys and Moonmen and nobody's even jealous because it's obvious they were so much better...I reach for the cards..." - From the book

The second book from the In the Cards series--Fame--deals with Eve Baylor's burning desire to become famous. Although she partly wants to consult the Tarot cards Mrs. Rosemont left to her friend Anna, Eve feels apprehensive about inquiring about future fame. What if the cards tell her she'll always be a loser...a nobody? What if she misinterprets the cards and sabotages her destiny of stardom?

When Mr. Courtney, the theater teacher at her school, decides to put on a production of Cabaret, Eve has mixed feelings. But when she finds out that Peter McElroy, the famous judge of the hit show You Suck! and father of her classmate Francesca will be there, Eve anxiously wonders if this is her chance to make it big.

Dealing with the topics of ambition, cliques, peer pressure, self worth, family dynamics and bigotry, In the Cards: Fame takes readers on a journey fraught with pre-teen angst, self-doubt, jealousy, anger and embarrassment.

Many characters from In the Cards: Love play a part in this second installment, with two of them vying for Anna's affection! Syd, who goes to different school from Anna and Eve, is corralled in the Cabaret production. Tempers flare when egos get out of control and someone has had enough of the pettiness and cruelty during rehearsals.

Eve eventually does a Tarot reading to see if she'll become famous, and the subsequent chapters are heralded by one card from the spread (a Tarot layout). As in the first book, In the Cards: Fame stays true to common Rider-Waite imagery and interpretation; in fact, the beginning of the book shows all ten cards laid out in a Celtic Cross spread (though the name of the spread isn't mentioned). The author, Mariah Fredericks, doesn't dumb down Tarot (reversed cards show up in the spread that the girls lay out), but neither does she complicate the cards.

Who will get the lead part of Sally Bowles? What of Declan Kelso...and Nelson Kobliner? Will Francesca's "connections" get her a part....even if she might lack talent? What of Uber-Cool snob Alexa and her sycophant friend, Marnie? And what happens when Eve's grades begin to slip...will her parents make her give up her dream?

If you enjoyed In the Cards: Love, In the Cards: Fame is even better, in my opinion. Ms. Frederick's characters ring true, as always, and the believability factor evokes feelings ranging from sadness to frustration, indignation to jubilation. Aimed at students ages 10-14 (Grades 5-9), the In the Cards series is a fine introduction to Tarot for those intrigued by such topics, as well as an accurate depiction of what happens in schools, behind backs, and inside the heads of `tweens and young teens.

However, as in the first book, they are incidents of girls calling each other "cows", mild profanity and meanness, so do keep that in mind when deciding if this series is appropriate for you or your children.

Personally, I can't wait for the next book in this series from Ms. Fredericks--In the Cards: Life!
