Forever Yours is a wonderful read. In 1994, I was elated to find a romance novel that was about romance -- passion and love -- between African-Americans. I loved it. I read it over and over. It is a great read for anyone who loves romance.

I read this book a few years ago, the book was so wonderful, that i didn't want to return it back to the library. I kept the book for about a year before returning it back. Now every day i yearn to read it again. What the chacters had in this romace novel was so wonderful, that it was a thin line between real life and fantasy.
This is the story every woman wants to read and every man should read. Not only was the main chacters exciting, but the supporting chacters were just as interesting. This book was overall a wonderful read. Ladies enjoy......... just wonderful.....

It took me a minute to get my hand on a copy of this book. This is where it all started for the Taggart/Falcon/Grayson sagas and what a great place to start. I really enjoyed this story. It had a lot of emotion and very tender moments. You can indentify with Victoria wanting to control every situation so she wouldn't get hurt again. And Kane...all I have to say is wow! He was just what she need! Definite recommendation!

FRANCIS DOES A WONDERFUL JOB OF BRINGING KANE AND VICTORIA TOGETHER. THE STORY OF THEM BEING DRAWN TO ONE ANOTHER YEARS EARLIER WAS A NICE IDEA THAT LETS THE READER UNDERSTAND WHAT KANE AND VICTORY WAS THINKING IN DIFFERENT TIMES IN THEIR LIVES.
ONCE YOU READ THIS ONE YOU WON'T BE HAPPY UNTIL YOU'VE READ THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES.

I first read this story when it was released in 1994. The story of Kane and Victoria was intriguing. Victoria, a woman who has been scorned many times, refuses to be hurt by love again. After her grandmother insists that she marry or lose her beloved business, Victoria takes matters into her own hands and looks for a husband-for-hire. Kane, a strong stubborn brother, agrees to consider marriage to Victoria, but he doesn't want to play by her rules. The tension that ensues carries this somewhat less than realistic story nicely. You'll enjoy watching the two strong-willed lead characters struggle for power as they both try to get want they want from the relationship.

I read this to our son, sadly, after he "out grew" these books, they were passed on. Happily, after searching all over I found these treasures on Amazon and now have a new collection for our beautiful grand daughter to enjoy.

Cute, sturdy book and a lovely story -- but beware; this version's abridged!

I have loved this book since I had it read to me many years ago, and am excited to share it with my own child. A word of caution, however, regarding the "Little Golden Treasures" version -- it has been abridged from the original! A purist like myself will prefer a copy of the full version. I may still pick it up for our child sometime down the road. The story is a lovely one and the pictures are beautiful.

This is a very cute little story of an elephant becoming comfortable with who he is meant to be. The characters in this story help Sooki the elephant realize he is just fine the way he is. It's an easy read with a sweet ending. Nice illustrations as well.

Jim Qwilleran wakes up in the hospital and can't remember much. He keeps thinking he has forgotten to do something. It is a nagging thought in the back of his mind. He knew it was something important. He longtime friend Arch Riker shows up and fast forwards Qwill through his life. Luckily he remembers...the cats!

As it turns out the bike wreck that landed him in the hospial was no accident. His investigation (led by Koko) of a former housekeeper of the mansion, who vanished mysteriously five years before, leads to much mystery and intrigue.

I loved this edition of "The Cat Who..." books, especially where Koko played piano. A piano playing cat is a rare find. This book will not disappoint you.

This is number six in Lilian Braun's long running 'The Cat Who' series and marks the beginning of Jim Qwilleran's transplantation to the far northern town of Pickaxe. Qwilleran has managed to become the heir of the community's wealthiest resident and must stay in Pickaxe for five years in order to inherit. As we all know now, he lasted a lot more than five years, and may still be north of everywhere enjoying the foibles and gossip that play such an important part of the world's coziest cozies.

Qwill has just moved into the Klingenshoen mansion with his two Siamese cats - Yum Yum the delectable and arch-detective Koko. Koko, through various manipulations of his owner's behavior, manages to arouse Qwill's curiosity about the disappearance of a housemaid a few years previously. In the process of investigating, the newspaperman introduces us to many of Pickaxes residents for the very first time. When he isn't being his by trucks, that is. It is interesting in retrospect to meet these characters again, who often started out one way and then became something else as Braun added layer after layer to her confection of characters and mysteries (and cats).

I can only read so many of these in rapid succession before I have to stop. Lilian Braun has a tendency to let her characters run in a groove with very little development over a number of volumes. She makes up for this by using Qwilleran to create witty dialogue, but there are only so many Pickaxe witticisms that one can read before feeling a desire for something with a bit more meat to it. This volume is a change of pace (if you've been reading in sequence). There's a bit less sarcasm and a bit more story and that makes this one of the best of her early books.

Don't look for a complicated mystery here. Braun's villains tend to be obvious, and more often than not the means are just as visible. You read these tales for lightweight enjoyment and the zany characters that chitchat their way through the pages. And, of course, you read them because you can't resist Qwill's owners, the Siamese masterminds.

At first when I started to hear the tapes, I was thinking that the narrator's voice was not dynamic enough. But by the middle of the first tape, I was ok with it. I've just gotten so tired of listening to Los Angeles radio stations in the car (we sit in traffic a lot out here) that I thought it would be nice to be entertained by something I really love. I was glad I did. Even if you've read the books in the past, it's fun to let the narrator do the reading for you. AND... something I thought was neat and that made me laugh was... when the narrator would be talking about Koko and Yumyum and a noise they were making, he would sound EXACTLY like my own Siamese cat. So it made it funny, because I knew exactly the "language" he was referring to. (He must have studied Siamese cats before attempting this narration!)

Anyway, I will probably buy more "Cat Who" books on tape. I don't anticipate L.A. traffic to be letting up anytime soon. And for some strange reason, listening to it in the car makes me feel like my own cat is in there with me. I say if you live in a city with heavy traffic... buy the tapes!

In the 6th book in The Cat Who...series, James Qwilleran aka "Qwill", is just settling in to his new life as a millionaire in Pickaxe City (400 miles north of everywhere). He has moved his two beautiful Siamese cats (KoKo and Yum Yum) into the old Klingenschoen mansion and is settling in for a five year stay to fulfill the requirements of Aunt Fanny's will.

As the book begins, Qwill is lying in a hospital bed, suffering from amnesia caused by a bicycle accident. His old friend, Arch Riker, flies into town to assist Qwill in regaining his memory, and succeeds in bringing Qwill out of his fog. While beginning to heal, Qwill starts to have vivid dreams of the moments leading up to the mishap, and eventually remembers that it was no accident...a truck had purposefully run him off the road! While trying to piece together who may have meant to harm him, Qwill begins some renovations to his new home. During his explorations of the mansion, Qwill stumbles across the room of a former employee, Daisy. Her room was completely painted with a graffiti style mural of daisies, and it arouses Qwill's keen curiosity. He begins to ask questions about the former employee of Fanny, and finds that Daisy disappeared rather abruptly. And when everyone that Qwilleran speaks to about her begins to have "accidents", he becomes suspicious that someone will kill to keep Daisy hidden forever.

This is my favorite cozy mystery series! I had read all of the books in the past, and wanted to read them again for a second time. This time around, I have chosen to listen to them on CD, as I love the voice of George Guidall. I am happily rediscovering how Qwill became a resident of Moose County, and how many of the series regulars join him from "down below". In this installment, Qwill hires Iris Cobb as his house manager. She cooks for him (and the cats), and is in charge of cataloging all of the antiques in the old mansion. For those that have not read the series, I do recommend reading the first several first. Many others can be intermixed, but this book offers good insight as to how Qwill became associated with Moose County. This is a great series by my favorite author!

The first book in the series is called "The Cat who Could Read Backwards". Enjoy!

"Lovely Me" is riveting. I had read Valley of the Dolls and enjoyed it, but was surprised when I found out it was one of the best selling books of all times, so I picked up "Lovely Me" to find out more. What I found was an inspirational biography of a flawed but driven woman who took the world by storm, but not until after the age of 44, after a failed acting career, and after her diagnosis of cancer. Jacqueline Susann's story can be heartbreaking (her son was institutionalized) it can be gritty (her numerous affairs) but is also shows a fierce determination to survive and thrive in this world. Two very important points of her life will stick with me throughout mine: 1) her fierce loyalty to friends 2) her determination to make her books a success. She went above and beyond most authors to promote her books. She may not have been the best writer but she was a best seller.

WOW! LOVELY ME is the terrific biography of an absolutely amazing woman who was HELL-BENT on fame since childhood - a very inspiring woman who didn't even BEGIN writing until her cancer diagnosis! She gives determination a new name. Jacqueline Susann was also a woman who LIVED Valley of the Dolls --- she schmoozed and worked for the marginal actress stardom she achieved on stage and in early Television with pals/lovers(?) like Carole Landis...the book also has a lot of GREAT celebrity tales. Jacqueline Susann was a woman whose fridge was stocked with only olives, gin, and pills! She was a woman who loved bedding elderly Jewish comics, and a woman who (along with her devoted husband Irving) was an ABSOLUTE GENIUS at SELF-PROMOTION!!! She was a woman who even stalked Ethel Merman (!!) etc. This extremely well written biography is brilliant, crazy, and engrossing --- and the perfect coming together of writer and subject. Reading it you are VERY aware of where JS's got the inspiration for her novels.

Here's the book that reveals all about the queen of the published melodramas, Jacqueline Susann. One thing's for sure, her real-life tale is as bumpy as anything she's ever written: jealousy, revenge, sexual deviation, incurable diseases... Author Barbara Seaman doesn't miss a beat in bringing you the story of a lady whose marginal frame of mind automatically made her an activist in human rights. Told with real pizzazz, LOVELY ME meticulously brings you back to a time when evolution was everywhere, even in so-called fluffy novels like the ones of Jacqueline Susann. Her personal struggles behind all of her fiction glamour definitely make for a compelling read.-----Martin Boucher

Ms. Seaman has produced a work of exceptional depth and quality, truly bringing the essence of Miss Susann to life, and making her compulsion for fame and regognition understandable. What struck me most was the tenacity with which Miss Susann clung to her dream of glory, only to have it so cruelly taken from her at such a young age--almost like a character in one of her classic novels. If the life of a working artist and the world of celebrity interests you, this is a book you will quite enjoy.

LOVELY ME takes honors for being the most lurid bio I've ever read. It was great!

I recommend reading this book before you pick up VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, because once you read VOTD, you'll know from exactly which well Jackie drew these experiences. Just as VOTD was a roman a clef for life as Jackie knew it, LM is the real-life retelling of VOTD.

I admire Jackie Susann. Not only was she a Philadelphian and a writer, like me, but she had such tenacity. Even when cancer, a failed career, a mentally-ill son, and a dim future stared her in the face, she plodded on and closed her ears to the naysayers. She never once took her eyes off her dream of being a published author and bolstering VOTD to being the best-selling novel in history. We can all learn something from her.

I enjoyed reading each and every single advice contained in this book. Some of them are quite simple, even obvious. Some are more complex and profound. Nonetheless, everyone deals with those little details, the small things that can be a huge problem, or a great blessing. Awesome choice for a gift...you can hand-pick some of them to make them more giftee oriented or even write a Hopscotch in the manner of Julio Cortázar famous novel. Hope this helps. Worked for me.

I first found this book on a bargain shelf at my local bookstore and picked it up for just 4 or 5 dollars. It really was a good buy.

It really is not a book that one would want to pick up and read but rather a book that you would want to have lie on your desk at work or on your coffee table at home so that visitors (or clients) can pick it up and turn to a random page and find any assortment of good philosophical sayings.

Each time I pick it up I find myself smiling at the fact that it gives something new each time you open it. With over 1500 entries, it really does give advice on everything. It gives advice on the things that we ethically know, but not necessarily are written down anywhere.

I bought a second copy not long ago for a friend of mine for a Christmas gift. It's a simple little thing that can make a big reaction.

Everybody should have one of these!

I loved this little book! This is the result of a dad sitting down to write out a few words of wisdom and advice for his son who was going off to his freshman year at college. The first list was 511 entries, and then, he mailed his son a new collection every two years.

There's some great advice all through this book! And no long stories attached either. Short and straight to the point, each numbered piece of advice is no more than a few lines long. The suggestions cover a broad range, some are serious while others are funny or trivial, but all are honest and good advice, and many are just interesting. Like #841: "When your dog dies, frame his collar and put it above a window facing west" -I've never heard of that before.

I highly recommend this little book as a gifts for anybody in your life and for anything from birthdays to graduations or just because. Would also make a good coffe table or bathroom book too.

After years of feeling alone in the universe, a stunning discovery occurs when a repeat transmission of radio waves emulates from Mars. NASA maintenance engineer Tyler Anderson, toilet unclogger superstar works on translating the incoming message though he is unaware of a conspiracy involving his superiors. Instead he soon realizes that someone on Mars is begging for help, but first he must fix a stuffed toilet.

The world's space exploration community puts together a manned space mission that includes Tyler to investigate the transmission at its source. On Mars, the crew finds an abandoned still functioning complex, apparently built by an alien civilization that for whatever logistical reason left behind their junk but technological treasures to the earthlings who came after them. However, the crew is soon going to learn how Pandora felt when she opened the box. Things begin to wrong and some of the crew die while communication with mission control fails. Tyler concludes that the message was not a call for help, but a warning that may prove too late to heed.

Once readers accept the Walter Mitty like Tyler turning into Rocky defeating Apollo Creed by translating what everyone else thought was noise and being added to the astronaut team, fans will enjoy a strong science fiction thriller. The story line makes the flight to Mars, the subsequent landing, and the climax seem so real that readers will believe NASA and the Russians conducted a joint mission to the Angry Red Planet. Tyler may not at first be suited for the job, but the audience will like him and forget his job description as he is the hero of this epic space adventure.

This story really stired my immagination. I was captivated by the story and the way the writer described Mars. Seemed surreal. I especially loved the free CD included with the book. I've listened to it many times and will continue to enjoy.

My daughter and I recently came back from Ireland where we saw the Book of Kells. Yesterday we went to the exhibit of the Saint John's Bible at the Phoenix Art Museum. If you have a chance to see the exhibiy in person don't miss it. The Saint John's Bible is the Book of Kells for our time. This art is astounding! There are no word's to describe the wonder of the Art. The most compelling image for me was the view from space of the earth. As a child of the space age the art appealed to me because it has the roots of the past yet with a modern twist. The book itself is wonderful. I am a 3rd generation "printer", the book itself is magnificent, but yes it is a quality printed book, and a reproduction. It is not the "huge" original. But it is available at an extremly reasonable price to hold in your hands!!!! Last semester I paid $150 for a Calculus book which does not even come close, but I needed it for my job. Buy this book to feed your soul and mind - it is unforgetable. This book has modern artistic sensibilities and translations speak to the mind of one who has seen the universe.

I too have seen the originals and was captivated by idea and the execution. When they said that they were going to make versions of them for the public I immediately planned to collect the entire set.

Now, 5 minutes after opening this (the first I had ordered), I have already printed off my return label.

The font is too small and too cramped. Since it is calligraphy, instead of being difficult to read, it would be nearly impossible to read. The dimensions of the book itself make severely awkward to hold while reading.

So if you want a beautiful piece of artwork to sit on your bookshelf, buy it.

If you want a beautiful Bible to study and read and enjoy, don't buy this. That's not what it's designed to be.

The price was excellent, I first saw this at the Museum of Natural History in San Diego, CA, where I live. I went to see the Dead Sea Scrolls on exhibit, they had a copy of this book in the book shop at the museum, the price was $20.00 more than what I paid on Amazon. And, as usual the price, service and delivery were excellent. Anyone who buys this will be absolutely please. A wonderful collection for your library. Thanks Amazon

Just got the book today. I was excited when I opened the package. The book was in pristine condition. Nice packaging and no nicks or scratches on the cover. But the real treasure is in the individual pages. The pages approximate the color of the original vellum used (creamy to beige). The colors are crisp and the primaries are the dominant ones: reds, greens, blues of different hues. The gold color could not capture the original gold foils. I saw some pages from SD Museum of Natural History. I was spellbound. HOWEVER THE GOLD COLOR OF THIS EDITION COULD BE MANIPULATED: TRY READING IT USING NATURAL LIGHT (COMING FROM THE SUN) AND ANGLE THE PAGES A LITTLE BIT OBLIQUELY AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT I MEAN. If you are not satisfied what this edition could offer, try getting the facsimile edition which looks like (from the measurements down to the gold foils) the real thing. But the asking price is $150,000 to cover up the expenses in making the original one. This edition is printed on alkaline paper and the individual pages are thick, made in China but the quality is excellent. I even went further of my perfectionist stint when I examined the print using x10 jeweller's loupe. The print is a little bit grainy which is no different from the best printed books of today. I was just hoping it was a Giclee print (much more expensive, though) which does not reflect on the book's price. As usual, the technique used in this printing is the time-honored color separation. The artworks used in the Gospels are superb and strikingly modern. Some, though, still mimick the Greek-Byzantine icons of the 5th to 17th centuries. I really like the full-page artworks especially the opening pages of each Gospels, Transfiguration, Good Samaritan-Prodigal Son and the page in the Acts depicting St. Paul. Calligraphy used in the majority of the text is somewhat monotonous but an art in itself. What striked me most is the attention to detail of the print. You can see some pages where the colors and ink bleed from the other side of the page (which you can see in the originals). Other peculiarity is the unintentional omission of the whole sentence/verse found in Mark chapter III between verse 20-21. The artist included the lost verse by using a figure of a bird picking it up and "inserting" the verse into the line. This makes this Bible more intersting and beautiful. There are other things I could say but this review would only spoil the surprise (spoiler alert!). Try experiencing the magnificence of this first release of the seven. I'm planning to buy the complete set for my collection in my personal library. P.S. The Book of Psalm received a very bad press and a lot of them (reviewers) were disappointed. But that would not deter me from buying the book.

In my health care practice, I look for the toxins that throw our bodies out of balance as Donna so aptly describes in her book. We live in a sea of chemicals and if a health practitioner chooses to go looking for them, they will find them in a patient's body. Just look around at the average American today. It is obvious the medications that simply treat symptoms are not enough.

It seems so basic to clean up our bodies, our environment. Thank you, Donna, for writing such a comprehensive, truthful book about our state of affairs in health and industry today and its impact on all of us.

Red Flags and Canaries

The jacket of the book is red; it symbolizes the red flag that autoimmune diseases are waving at us. You know what happens when you ignore a red flag - this is a must read book. Readers who have an autoimmune disease, or suspect that they do, will get a whole new insight into the process of the body attacking itself. Case histories bring the reality of these diseases into focus. She explains why if you have one autoimmune disease, you are at increased risk for more.

Readers who do not have an autoimmune disease will get the same kind of heads-up coal miners get when they send a canary into a mine shaft... and it doesn't come out. Donna Nakazawa has provided enough scientific information in an area of public health that is sketchy at best and mysterious at least to give the reader many "aha" moments. Nakazawa's writing style is perfect for this topic. She has taken a highly complex medical condition and made it easy for people without a medical or science background to understand.

Why is diagnosing autoimmune diseases so difficult?
Why is finding cause and effect so challenging?
Why is treatment so elusive?
How could we not have seen this coming: OR why did we see it and ignore it?

There is a chapter on cutting edge research being done for treatment of some of the most debilitating autoimmune conditions. This is a chapter of hope. In my opinion, the prospect of patching up serious body malfunctions doesn't compensate for the damage already done by negligence of our society. But Nakazawa does give us that hope and additional suggestions for lifestyle adaptations in diet, stress management and environmental awareness. That is probably the best we can do with what we have before us.

Reading this book will open your eyes! Physicians, take note.

In the forward to The Autoimmune Epidemic, Dr. Douglas Kerr, Director of the Johns Hopkins Transverse Myelitis Center, states reading this book is "a necessary first step," but rereading it "is a life-altering event." Be prepared, though, even a first pass through these well-written, meticulously researched pages will force you to look at the world around you in a totally different light.

Donna Jackson Nakazawa has managed to synthesize a complex subject, the explosion of diagnosed autoimmune diseases throughout the Western world, with a writing style that's both informative and riveting, producing what will be looked at as THE clarion call for our entire society to make sweeping changes before it's too late.

Every likely contributor to this epidemic is exposed -- from what industry casually pumps into the environment to what we voluntarily put into our own bodies. Ms. Nakazawa not only explores the possible causes and effects of these influences, she successfully bridges the often arcane medical jargon in an intelligent and effective manner.

Ms. Nakazawa introduces a new term to the lexicon - "autogen" - which will become the watchword for all of us as it refers to those triggers we come in contact with that can send our immune systems into self-destruct mode. Becoming alert to potential external autogens is just one important step in preventing the panoply of autoimmune diseases, though. What we eat, drink, do, even how we think and feel, have possible consequences on our future health.

Curious to know what "the barrel" is and how close your personal one is to overflowing? By the time you finish The Autoimmune Epidemic, you may become sufficiently self-aware to address those factors filling your barrel before your own immune system turns against you. Your health and the health of our future generations depends on direct action by all of us to change the course of the coming (or already arrived) autogen storm. Donna Jackson Nakazawa will remembered as the one who sounded the alarm and hopefully, not too late.

I am, admittedly, a fan of the book because it tells a powerful story of a neighborhood activism in Buffalo, NY, and I was involved in that story in a small way. But the story of folks with undiagnosed autoimmune disease, how this poor, minority community had the strength of will to ask difficult questions, identify scientific collaborators in the local University, and lead a groundbreaking study of lupus incidence is a lesson that bears repeating all across the US. Along with that chapter, Donna Jackson Nakazawa weaves together impressive scientific review, stories of her personal challenges and why it is relevant for patients all across the US, and clearly states key issues for those wanting to know what they suffer from.

On top of that, she identifies recommendations on health and diet.

A powerful book, because it captures a citizen and journalist describing research, citizen action and health recommendations for this rising tide of unknown diseases, that affect everyone around us.

Why so many MS patients? Why is lupus so hard to diagnose? Why do we only measure asthma and cancer, and not other disease rates? Why do we insist on such a burden of proof of problematic diseases in communities? Jackson Nakazawa identifies and tackles tough science and policy questions in a book that cannot be put down.

Scientists, medical professionals, doctors, researchers, community leaders and members, citizen activists, concerned neighbors. You all should read this book.

I am a 35 yr old woman who has multiple sclerosis. My father and my mother's sister have lupus. My father's brother also has ms... and the story goes on. I know in my heart that the environment we have created definitely affects us. This book was suggested to me by a librarian who has rheumatoid arthritis and we got talking. I feel as if this book backs up everything I have been thinking, but goes on in depth explaining why.

I have learned so much from this book. The book thoroughly explains different factors that all add up to why autoimmune disease seems to be so rampant. There is a great explanation of a barrel filling and overflowing, which really makes sense. It seems that things we eat, use, clean with etc., stuff we take for granted everyday combined with the general environment and possibly genetics all add up to autoimmune disease.

I would suggest this to anyone who is interested in learning more about possible causation of autoimmune disease including physicians and family members of the diseased.

I feel empowered after reading this book as there are things that I can change. I hope that with several small changes (and maybe a few big ones) I can make a difference in the course of my disease or at least try to prevent it in my children.

Pat Williams loves to read, and usually has 5 or 6 books going at a time. He passes on his love for reading in this crisp, inspiring book. Williams recommends gathering together a stack of books on subjects that interest you. He encourages you to find a quiet place and a comfortable chair (but not so comfortable where you will fall asleep!), and a good reading lamp.

He talks about the 11 ways reading will transform your life. It will make you an authority on any subject, it will make you a more interesting person to talk with, it will give you wisdom and knowledge to pass on to others, it will keep you mentally sharp (and perhaps ward off Alzheimer's Disease!), and it will take you to places you would otherwise never have the time to visit. You can visit a real place like Hawaii through the James Michener novels, or an imaginary place like Naboo in the Star Wars universe.

Reading will bring you out of the doldrums and inspire you to creative heights.

This book is easy to read, fun to read, and will make you want to read more!
