It is evident that Cathy Baker developed a close relationship with Dard Hunter while she labored through the endless research required to produce this thorough and engaging biography of one of America's outstanding graphic designers and scholors. She was able to establish the relationship without compromising her objectivity. Hunter's greatness is lavishly detailed without placing him among the gods. Here is a very human man who quietly achievied greatness. I'll read this one again.

John Lyly's satires are brilliant works of drama not frequently read by the lay public. The characters ring true and set in context Shakespeare's comedies that followed. Most academics study these plays as precursors of the great bard's, but they are vital, humorous dramas that are worthy of attention in their own right.

Scary book but it didn't scare me into stopping. I only managed to quit when I got hold of a copy of Richard Craze's The Voice of Tobacco - now I don't smoke any more after thirty years of puffing that old devil tobacco. Cool book.

This book is a great travel companion!! I took it with me on a week long vacation to Cancun and I'm glad I did . . . I would have been lost without it. The information is very useful and up to date!! I would recommend this book to anyone traveling to Cancun!!

I couldn't put the book down! It's a bit hard to find - I had to find used book resources on the internet to track it down. The original book is entitled Monster Man ... this book is very similar but contains illustrations (I ended up buying both).

This is an excellent book for anyone who has survived abuse, whether in the family, in cults, or abusive relationships. Lots of helpful and insightful information for the recovery process. Highly recommended.

If you are a fan of the old movie "Strangers When We Meet" this book is a 'must read' for you. I love the old movie starring Kirk Douglas and Kim Novak as they fall in love and sizzle their affair onto the movie screen. The novel has a very different ending than the movie and I was pleasantly shocked to read the 'real ending' to the story.

After having bought Adkins' "Appalachian Trail: A Visitor's Companion," I thought I would give his guide to walking the Caribbean a try. Thoroughly researched, the book directed me to some of the best walks and hikes I've ever had. Using it, my vacation became an exploration of isolated and uncrowded beaches, desert landscapes, wet rain forests and steaming volcanoes. As examples: on Dominica, I caught a glimpse of the endangered Sisserou parrot, on Saba I followed century-old step trails and in the British Virgin Islands walked completely around an island without seeing another person. If you are unsure of venturing out on your own, local guide companies are identified. For those who want less of an adventure or who only have a few hours (such as cruise ship passengers), Adkins has included walking tours of the historic port towns and botanical gardens. He even directs you to beaches where you and everyone else is permitted to enjoy the sun sans clothing. As far as I know, this is the only book dedicated exclusively to walking and hiking the islands.

Virginia Lee Hunter is an amazing photographer and CARNY is filled with fascinating images (candids, environmental portraits, slice-of-life snapshots) that put an artisically beautiful spin on the American subculture of Carnival workers. If you've every enjoyed cotton candy on the midway, this book is eye candy that makes you think about bringing your camera to the next state fair you attend. CARNY is currently in heavy rotation on my coffee table!
