This book goes through every step of the graduate school process how it really is from the application process to project design and thesis writing to finding a job. I really feel that it cleared up a lot of the questions and anxieties I had about applying to graduate school and getting through it! It reads as though you are having a conversation with the authors and by the end you feel you know them well. I highly recommend it for students in any environmental field.

The best book on screenwriting I've seen. It provides a clear and intuitive way of looking at narrative structure where others make structure appear merely arbitrary. In addition it is one of the only books (if not the only book) that deals practically with writing non-linear narrative structures seen in such films as Shine, Memento, and Pulp Fiction.

Award winning screenwriter, playwright, and novelist Linda Aronson draws upon her many years of professional experience and expertise to present Screenwriting Updated: New (And Conventional) Ways Of Writing For The Screen, a singularly useful and "user friendly" compendium of advice, examples, tips, tricks, and techniques on writing scripts for television and film. Sections cover such topics as Getting Ideas, Narrative Structure, and dialogue writing. Sample scenes abound, clearly illustrating various writing principles and rendering the concepts in concrete, unmistakable clarity. A complete "how to" course in a single volume, Screenwriting Updated is very highly recommended for both aspiring and active screenwriters.

I'm Grateful For This Book

I have seen virtually everything out there and for me this is simply the best of the bunch. Linda Aronson has put so much that is practical into this book, that I am actually grateful to her. More than that, I am a bit in awe of her intelligence and generosity. I have never seen so much excellent advice in one book about the creative process of writing, the interplay of what she calls vertical and lateral thinking. I simply don't have the time to really explain all that is incredible about this book-I'm using it right now to write a radio drama and I have to get back to work. (obviously, the book's advice applies). Check it out-it may speak to you. For me, Linda Aronson is a supremely gifted teacher. Ah, the joys of clarity.

Moons of the Hunter...

The stories follow hunters, and their families, as they live, work and hunt on the North Slope of Alaska. Whales, seals and even the birds play their part in the life of the Tareogmiut, people of the sea, and these stories show how harsh and wonderful life may be. There is no good or evil, just cold that must be dealt with and family who must be protected and cared for.
We follow the hunters as they go out onto the ice to hunt bears and seals. We follow the women as they care for the children and fish. These stories are not for kids. They are full of blood and harsh scenes of survival.

Nelson has written an engaging account of the year round subsistence activities of the Inupiat Eskimos of Alaska. From whaling in skin boats to chasing caribou with a dog sled, Nelson takes readers into the every day life of people who have developed the skills to not only survive, but thrive, in one of the harshest environments on Earth--the Arctic.

Excellent insight into the Inupiat Eskimo lifestyle.

Nelson takes you inside the mind of the Inupiat Eskimo like no other author. It as if you are right there hunting on the pack ice, at fish camp, and picking berries.

I'm usually pretty skeptical of How-To books, but this one was recommended to me. It's quite cool. I was able to understand it, and it actually helped me get started snowboarding. I can seriously recommend this book for regular people.

Awesome book. Used it to help decide what equipment to get and to teach my girlfriend the basics. The writing style is easy to read and the contents are great for an introduction. The descriptions and pictures of slipping, edging and traversals made were really illuminating, and instructions on riding powder made me want to go lay some tracks.

Informative, clear and descriptive--a must for snowboarders

Goldman knows the sport of snowboarding and does a fantastic job of providing all the essential information anyone else would need to know to enjoy snowboarding. From equipment to accessories to getting started basics and advanced skills, I enjoyed reading the book and felt I learned something new on every page. The photos and drawings were also super helpful to me. Goldman is a fine writer who undoubtedly loves to snowboard and I walked away from having read the book feeling Goldman's enthusiasm for the sport and wishing it were already winter.

Carrot is all worried about being the reincarnation of the god of destruction and how it will affect his friends, including the babes!! Later Carrot, Marron and Tira get trapped inside a maze.
Can Carrot survive those nasty emergency rations? Who is Crepe? and why the heck is she telling Carrot they are lovers? Plus, Tira teams up with the bad guy?! This is a cool Sorcerer Hunters book cause well, you'll just have to see what I mean on page 164.

This is my all-time favorite manga series, and with each new volume, the stories just keep getting better and better. This volume increases character development, especially in Carrot.

Anyway, onto the actual stories. The first one is about Carrot coping with the fact that he is the God of Destruction. Marron is worried about him as well. This story is short compared to most chapters of SH.
The second story, magic carpender, is all one big shot (Instead of it being split up into several chapters, like most extended stories, it is a 150 page chapter). The Sorcerer Hunters go back to work disposing of Evil Sorcerers, but this time it isn't just a Sorcerer they need to face. This has to be one of my favorite stories, and I could read it over and over. It made me cry... *snif*

If you never read the series, I highly suggest you start at the first book and go from there. You won't regret it, SH is an awesome story.

This is a delightfully informative naration clearly describing not only every day life in the UK during the war years but also the appalling loss of life in the air.
It is hard to imagine the fear and extreme adrenaline rushes these pilots were exposed to and then to return to base at the end of the day and try to resume some normality in life....what an extreme contrast and emotional roller coaster.
This is a recommended read to all with an interest in aviation.

The English have had a history riddled with war and bloodshed. In a war to end oppression and evil, one British pilot, David Crook recorded his memoirs of day to day life and illustrated the hardships of life during an era of uncertainty in a journal now published as Spitfire Pilot during World War II. This recollection of memories was some of the harshest battles the modern world has ever witnessed. From the famous Battle of Britain to the numerous long painstaking escort bomber missions over Germany, this pilot and others alike were the last obstacle Hitler had to overcome before a German invasion of England. Crook understands this and quickly learns that everyday might be his last. Overall this one mans experiences in the darkest times of humanity are both breathtaking and horrifying for any military buff.

I purchased this book for research. I thought it a just a book to pick up on a few pointers for my writing project. I was instantly captivated by the author and his uncanny ability to put the reader in the cockpit. I promise you that this is an unusual story. It is about a great pilot, airplane, the men who flew them, the time that they lived in, and most of all a small band of deticated, beyond words, young men fighting a formidable enemy against unbelievable odds.
The author coveys well what it is to lose a loved freind and brother in arms. To have breakfast with him, and then know he's gone by 10:00 A.M. that morning... and more.
D.M.C.(the author) is speaking through a very personal pilots log, a diary. His writings will be read by my children as they will be home schooled. He and his fellow pilots are heros of freedome, Liberty.
This book will be on my shelf for a very long time. I kid you not, is worth a lot more than it's cover price.

The Best British Air Force Memoir of World War II
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-08
"Spitfire Pilot" remains the best British Air Force memoirs of World War II.

Flight Lieutenant David Crook tells the story of the British Auxiliary Air Force's 609 Squadron, which shot down 100 German aircraft during the Battle of Britain, killing some 800 Luftwaffe pilots and crewmen while losing only 13. It was units like these, from the Royal and Auxiliary Air Forces, manned with young pilots like David Crook that won the Battle of Britain, devastating the Luftwaffe.

Crook's first hand accounts of the lives and deaths of British fighter pilots in World War II are both insightful and powerful. The author, who won Britain's Distinguished Flying Cross, survived the Battle of Britain only to die in a training accident in December 1944.

Steve Irwin was a dedicated and thoroughly down to earth wildlife conservationist. He believed in what he did and he had a heart full of love and a healthy attitude towards life. Steve Irwin: The Incredible Life of the Crocodile Hunter thoroughly explores Steve's amazing life, from his childhood antics through to his adult relationships - including his wife Terry and their family. There are wonderful photos thru-out. Anyone who loved Steve, will enjoy having this book. Steve, you are missed. But the work you believed in goes on. Thank you.

A Vintage Tribute To A Warrior For Animals

The charismatic and highly animated Steve Irwin was compassion in action for the wildlife kindom. He revered all creatures great and small. His entertaining and captivating television specials were vital for alluring countless thousands of young viewers to learn to apprecaite nature and animal species. He interacted with crocodiles, snakes and dangerous animals to showcase that these species were vital to ecosystems and habitats. Steve Irwin did not kill animals. He was a warrior on behalf of wildlife. He was accidentally killed by a stingray. The latter are majestic and peaceful creatures. Steve Irwin would denounce any malcontent person who would mutilate and kill an innocent stingray. Thank God that Steve Irwin's wife and incredible daughter continue his campaign and advocacy on behalf of the animal kingdom.

As a beginner hunter I have found few sources for pratical, useful understanding of the art of still hunting deer. I read this book during deer season and was immediately able to put wisdom from 100+ years ago to use. Prior to reading the book, I missed my first shot on a deer and was amazed that the chapter "The First Shot on a Deer", described my experience so well and helped me understand why it happened. My non-hunting friends have enjoyed reading the book with its almost conversational style or writing. I believe this book will be a resource and an enjoyable volume for many readings to come.

THE classic book of still-hunting--
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2005-07-06
First published in the 1880s, this is the first book ever written on American field sports. It helped inspire the craze for literary stories of hunting (carried on by Charles Sheldon, TRoosevelt etc.) amd was considered by both those men the best book ever written on the still-hunt. Written in the second person, it walks the reader through the process of learning to look for, stalk, and eventually shoot at deer, while drawing moral lessons on the evils of hunting "the wrong way." Van Dyke was esp. concerned with hunting techniques prevalent in places such as the Adirondacks at the time, shooting deer while swimming in water, etc., and his encouragement of sport by and for gentlemen helped set the stage for widespread prohibition of working-class and subsistence hunting techniques. Charming, gorgeously written, and immensely entertaining, this is a great book marking one of the most important turning points in how Americans thought about hunting and what it meant.

I haven't gotten through the whole thing yet but I love how this book is set up and the way it is written. It really makes sexuality take on a whole new persona, one that is not dirty and hidden but rather celebrated and spoken about in an easy manner. I love how it is written for ALL WOMEN not just straight women. It isn't there to make lesbians feel bad about not being with a man or leave out bisexual people or a woman who is single. It's there for any woman who wants to open herself up sexually to all her possibilities. I am looking forward to trying all the excercises within the book, with and without my lover. Though, I do have to say that I got this book from Boarders and it was only 15.95, rather than 44 and 68 dollars like it is on here. Amazon did that with another book on lesbian sex as well, so watch out for that.

A fantastic book for women, gay or otherwise.
I've read many other books on trantra, but was usually disappointed in the patriarchal, male centered, and homophobic way they were written. This book comes from the view that one doesn't have to be a man or heterosexual to enjoy a more fulfilling spiritual sexuality. It's very unbiased. The author is unbelievable in her knowledge of how most women feel and think and the ways in which they are satisfided sexually.
I would also recommend this book to men who want to understand female sexuality better.

Paul Gobel books are favorites of mine. The Grandchildren ask for them to be read every visit. When I purchased a tipi we were inspired by Mr Gobel's excellent books to create a traditional design with personal meaning.
This book arrived in time for our initial use of the tipi and brought greater meaning to the experience of putting up the tipi and living in it for a week of Camp Grandma. We are looking forward to "furnishing" the tipi next summer.

The artwork and symbolism should be tremendously helpful to future generations of young tribal members and descendants as the memories fade ever further.
