This is a very nice little book. It gives beautiful color photos of the game. There is a nice section on some beautiful dogs and a practical guide on guns and equipment.

The USA style Western USA hunting is a little different than the classical British and European style that I favor, but we can certainly all get along here.

This book was clearly done by someone who loves the birds, the dogs and a day in field.

This book reads like an introductory encyclopedia for upland game bird hunting. It gives you a very good overall view of most aspects of this type of hunt. For the novice it is perfect in that it goes through all what it entails to go upland game bird hunting, as well as covers practically all species you could hunt for. The strength is that it covers most everything - what it lacks in depth does not quite matter as other litterature is available for the one that seeks to "dig in" further. I clearly recommend this book both for the novice as well as the expert that would need a reference guide.

This is a great book for beginner upland hunters. As with all "hunting and Fishing Library" books I have read this one is well written and has incredible pictures. It has great sections on guns, tactics and techniques for finding birds and even a review of dogs suitable for upland hunting.

Informative, quality book with great photographs

This quality, but inexpensive, book provides an informative overview of upland bird hunting, with chapters on shotgun basics & equipment, and separate chapters on all major North American upland birds.

The excellent photography & layout compliments the analysis of each bird species, its habitat, and how best to hunt them, as well as introducing the various hunting dog breeds.

This book should be in every upland hunter's library--novice and experienced hunter alike.

(This is another excellent book in the Hunting & Fishing Library--anyone who has read the Wild Turkey, Deer, Trout, Fly Tying, or Duck Hunting volumes will know what I'm talking about!)

Upland Game Birds (The Hunting & Fishing Library) by Dick Sternberg is such a wonderful book. Re-reading it I was reminded of when I was a kid and my Dad who was also my hero, would come home from hunting and head for the cooling room in the garage and hang the pheasants and ducks he had gotten up to age.

We would have great conversations and start talking about wildrice and mushroom stuffing and all the great dinners we would enjoy in the winter months from the game he brought home.

Dick Sternberg is such a gifted writer and reading his books you find yourself awed by the photos and graphics and like the best classes you remember from school you realize that learning can be fun as well as worthwhile.

With pheasant season just weeks away I am looking forward to trying some of the recipes in the book that I have not tried yet. And the recipes are easy to follow and do not require you to travel 50 miles to some quaint overpriced shop to buy some spice listed since everything he uses can be found at your local grocer. Unless you live in the Alaska wilderness.

This book is a wonderful, slow, compelling read that places you beside the rebel soldiers as they march from day to day, from battle to battle. We are marching to Gettysburg now, where a battle was not supposed to be fought. Accidents of war. If anyone out there has more info on Alexander Hunter, I would appreciate anything you can tell me by e-mail. Thanks very much. Steve

I have never read anything of the Civil War that so delineates the war from the perspective of the "man in the ranks...the Private." The author has allowed time to temper his writings so that what he writes of gives a real sense of honesty...it is what happened, not from the pen of the "generals'" but of one who carried the fight personally to the foe as well as living the reality of the war day to day...a rare find, indeed!

Interesting first hand account of the Civil War.

This is a good book and an interesting first person story from another time and place. However my copy abruptly ends while he is taking a prisoner down south. He stops at a farm house for the night and then the book just ends. Did the author never complete the book or did I just get a bad copy? Despite this I would still highly recommend reading this book.

Anyone who has ever endured pain for a length of time will understands how important it is to find relief. All too often, stretches ,heat, icing, and medications fall short. Many have learned to search farther afield for help and relief.
This book presents case studies, explanations of the reason for the pain, and a wonderful variety of treatments. The depth of understanding by this author is incredible. She offers options for treatment of everything from skin hunger, ( a very real condition resulting from the absence of touch) to neuralgia. Treatments are suggested relevant to the conditions discussed. .
Since many of us are using alternative treatments more and more often, this book is an invaluable resource . Treatments we have heard about but may not be familiar with, such as laser treatments, acupuncture, TENS machines and more are explained in simple easy to understand. The mind body connection is addressed and the importance of emotional well being for good health is presented with suggestions on how to achieve this physical harmony. Laughter, meditation and prayer should not be discounted, as they can be very helpful in conquering pain and achieving the relief and ability to cope with pain that many of us seek.

Hope for those who suffer chronic pain

"The Journey to Pain Relief," by Phyllis Berger, is broken down into 12 chapters. The Appendix at the end covers Acupuncture Techniques for Specific Conditions, Treatment with TENS and Treatment with MDC.

"The Journey to Pain Relief" begins by defining the difference between acute and chronic pain. Acute pain "serves as a warning that an injury has taken place." Chronic pain is pain that never seems to go away. "The key to preventing chronic pain is to treat acute pain immediately." Chronic pain can have serious penalties for both the body and the mind. Pain affects us emotionally as well as physically. Pain can cause us to limit our movements in a particular area and it may create emotional stress. The higher our level of pain the more fear helplessness and anxiety we may feel. These emotions lead to sleep problems and depression.

"You have the right to seek relief from pain." You should talk to your doctor about your pain and he or she should listen. A patient needs to be proactive. Try to gather as much information as possible.

Find a way to laugh. Laughter seems to lower blood pressure, reduces stress, and strengthens the immune system. "Patients with chronic pain should seek out situations and activities that bring joy, happiness, and laughter into their lives in order to strengthen their system, uplift their spirits, and reduce the depression, anxiety and fear associated with pain."

Phyllis Berger brings hope to those who suffer chronic pain. I wish I had read this book before having four back surgeries. "The Journey to Pain Relief" is written in simple terms making it easy to read and understand. Ms. Berger promotes patient education. I found "The Journey to Pain Relief" to be very informative and helpful. Ms. Berger's credentials and personal experience lends credence to the information found in this book. I highly recommend this book to all that suffer chronic pain.

Well written, easy to read and inspiring. Without getting into deep medical details (there are other fine books for that), it gives you valuable information and suggestions. I got this because my mother has a CII colon cancer (already operated and on chemo) and helped me quickly gain a good insight, so I can better support her (she can't read English, otherwise I would give it to her as a valuable present).

Colorectal cancers develop slowly in the lower portions of the digestive tract. More than 140,000 new cases are diagnosed annual in the United States. Men and Women are equally at risk for the diseases. Positive Options For Colorectal Cancer: Self-Help And Treatment by colorectal cancer survivor Carol Ann Larson accessibly and understandably explains just how to cope with the disease and obtain the best treatments that modern medicine has to offer. Positive Options For Colorectal Cancer addresses the warning signs of the condition; screening tests (including information on virtual colonoscopy); myths and other misinformation about the disease; treatment options (including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation); communicating with doctors and other medical professionals; prevention techniques and alternative methods of healing; as well as finding support and utilizing all available resources. Of special note are the Q&As in which doctors respond to the most common questions of colorectal cancer patients. Very strongly recommended for personal and community library reference collections, Positive Options For Colorectal Cancer should be considered "must" reading for anyone having to deal with this disease.

Carol Larson's book is an excellent guidebook for a patient facing colorectal cancer. Instead of feeling helpless and awash in a sea of uncertainty when dealing with colorectal cancer, the book clearly guides the patient to identify the positive options available.

The format of the book is excellent. Each chapter ends with a summary of the chapter and provides techniques, direction and information about the topic of the chapter. It is flush with many human interest stories. The many colorectal patients who contribute to the various chapters in the book provide encouragment with their advice and reflections while helping the patient to cope. Their personal reflections are reassuring.

The book provides a clear description written with sensitivity to each of the factors of colorectal cancer: testing options, understanding the diagnosis, considering decisions about medical treatment, and other challenges. This book is clearly a guidebook for an uncharted journey. Yet, it is written in such a way to empower the patient. I recommend this book for anyone who has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer and their loved ones. It's a helpful tool.

In "Sales Management Power Strategies", the author makes it clear that increasing sales revenue is the responsibility of several departments working together. As you read this book you will get many ideas that you can easily implement to help your sales department succeed. Paul takes you step-by-step from hiring the right person, setting quotas and accurately forecasting results, to getting the entire company focused on revenue.

As CFO of a high tech company, I especially appreciated the practical advice, as well as the worksheets for getting top revenue performance from the company. We have already started implementing some of the ideas in this book and know we will be seeing great results.

If you're looking for a business book to add to your sales library, this should be the next book you read.

It has been said that if something is unmanaged it is uncontrolled. If sales management was truly honest, "shoot from the hip" would best describe their current sales processes. In his book, Mr. DiModica transforms time tested revenue strategies into action steps. The title says it all "building a replicable and scalable sales process." This is a great resource for any organization that is unsatisfied with their sales performance.

The author gives very specific details on how to manage your salespeople by metrics, develop a sales scorecard, calculate sales quotas and targets accurately, and hire the right sales staff for your company. Lots of books out there are full of fluff and generalizations, but this particular book gives techniques and strategies that work in the real world and will help increase your team's peak performance. I recommend this book to anyone seeking to build or improve their sales team.

This was my first taste of Sherrilyn Kenyon and her Dark-Hunter series and now I am waiting with baited breath for my next shipment to get here so I can continue reading her series. I have been an avid Laurell K Hamilton reader and after reading all the current books in both of her series was left desperate and depressed with nothing to read.... THEN I found the Dark-Hunter series!!! I love how each book is devoted to a Dark-Hunter. Getting to know each of them "intimately" and then seeing them make little guest appearances in the next book makes for an awesome read. These are the kind of books you find hard to put down once you start reading. I would recommend this series to anyone who loves the paranormal, adventure, romance-erotica genre. Thanks to my Amazon prompt I remembered to place this review. If you have followed previous reviews you know my focus on Shane, Maloney and Cobb. Because of my primary occuption I fell badly behind in my reading schedule. I was able to close this gap with my commute to work, a 12+ hour flight. I was able to get set and read cover to cover. In this addition to the series, Jack has set focus to the spirit of the modern age warrior of special operations. The setting against the South American jungle of polictical movements, crisis, and deception is timely and accurate. Action flows well, properly paced and sequenced. Most of us read this for the flying action and combat scenes. This installment does not disappoint. It does not drag. The best part of this book and the series is the depiction of the price of honor. Above all else honor, no matter the price. This is well played over the team and the command elements. In keeping with this author it will be a stand alone book, it allows you to read this and go to first and not be disappointed. In fact my guess is that a new reader to the series might enjoy it a little more in that sequence. Very happy to see next book is out soon. As a retired military aviator and working contractor I fully recommend this book and series. Hopefully I will stay ahead on the schedule this time.

Jack Shane's Sky Hunters novel is terrific. After reading this, it makes me want to pick-up the other book in the series. Fast-paced, full of interesting characters, both good and bad, Operation Southern Cross was a explosive adventure read.

Fast-moving, great story, action galore

Just like the first book of the XBattalion series, "OSC" moves like a race car jammed into fifth gear. The top-secret XBat copter force is ordered to put out several political brush fires in South America, only to discover that one of them might involve nothing less than the fate of the world. All the while, the CIA's multi-billion dollar, ultra-sophisticated spy satellite system is failing, and no one knows why. The two plot lines collide in one of the most unlikliest places on Earth, causing the book's heroes to make an incredibly harrowing last-minute flight to save all. The action scenes are very realistic; the flying sequences are not for the faint of heart. The balancing act that many special forces members must endure between their personal lives and service to their country is also well brought out. According to a web site given on the book's cover -- www.XBattalion.com -- apparently no one really knows who the author Jack Shane is. But obviously, he knows his stuff. I'm looking forward to Book 3.

THE BOOK STARTED OUT BY GETTING ALL THE STORY LINE PIECES TOGETHER, THEN THE BOOK TOOK OFF LIKE A ROCKET. I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW QUICK I MOVED THRU THE BOOK. THE STORY WAS SET IN SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRY, THAT WAS GOING TO ATTACK THE UNITED STATES. THE XBATT HAD TO GO IN AND SAVE THE DAY BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WAS IN THE AREA. THEY STOPPED THE BAD GUYS BUT IT DID HAVE A COST TO ONE OF THE MEMBERS. WILL THERE BE ANOTHER BOOK ?? I HOPE SO!!
