Juan Nepomuceno Cortina was born on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande in 1824. Known as "The Red Robber of the Rio Grande", the author recasts Cortina as a protector of Tejanos from the abuses of the Texas Rangers in the years following the United States - Mexico War of 1846-48. In 1848 he established La Raza Unida, originally a secret organization. He organized and armed the local Mexican population and in 1859 led 500 to 600 men in an attempt to establish control of the land in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. This became known as the Cortina Rebellion.

I had this book when I was a student at Temple. It made understanding Judo really easy. The book rocks!

What a pleasure to read the entire story of Julie in one hardcover book. ABSOLUTELY worth the money! You should know, however, that the historal sections at the end of each of the original six books are NOT included. There is one large section on the history, but by no means as comprehensive as the six sections found in the entire series. Still worth buying...Now I have all of these new HC books AND the six book series! :-)

Hunt (Director, Stark Museum of Art, Orange, Texas), and enhanced with numerous black-and-white illustrations and studio art reproductions, Karl Bodmer's Studio Art is a truly captivating collection of images and an informative, scholarly study of the works of Karl Bodmer, a Swiss artist whom Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied selected for an 1833-34 expedition up the Missouri River. Bodmer sketched and painted landscapes and Native American portraits which uniquely captured the imaginations of the western world then and now. Enthusiastically recommended for academic and community library Art History and American History reference collections, Karl Bodmer's Studio Art focuses more on the story of Bodmer's journey than the art itself, yet both the text and the illustrations have a timeless appeal.

I am so impressed with the Kaya paper dolls and my 8 year old daughter adores them -they are the favourite plaything. As a lover of paper dolls from childhood I have always provided by daughter with lots of good quality paper dolls that provide lots of imaginative play as well as open her mind to children and people from different times and places. Up until now I didn't think the Little House Paper Dolls could be beat - then we found American Girl. The book has a velcro clasp on the side of the front cover to hold everything in place sideways, at the back is Kaya's purflece which folds from top to bottom with a clasp to hold everything in place lengthways - nothing falls out or becomes lost. The quality of the paper is fabulous - dolls are rigid (and there are three - Kaya and her two friends all full size) and glossy, clothes are just the right stiffness and glossy and so detailed! Every outfit comes with something for her hair or to carry or for her feet or a belt or a necklace and everything has on the back what it is and what it was used for and would have been made from. Awesome! We are learning so much and this information adds so much to my daugter's play. There are small pages to cut from each page and at the back a front and back cover and instructions on how to assemble the whole into a little book that tells part of Kaya's story. It is as if the book was designed by someone who loved paper dolls as a child and thought of everything she had always wanted in her paper dolls so had the chance to do it with the American Girls. I recommend the Kaya dolls so highly and we are looking forward to adding more American Girl Paper dolls to our collection. We love Kaya!

This is a strange book. It reads more like a Jungian interpretation. I loved it, the way they basically did a compressed verision of On the Road linked together by a Moses-like point of view (no weider than the great book itself though). Very dreamy.

Kimberly And The Captives is a great way to show one young girl's sorrow and grieving for the sudden passing of her mother on the way to meet her father in Virgina. When they boarded the ship they found themselves in a nasty hold with over a hundred children These children are not passengers ,they are cargo to be sold in America. This book also tells of Kimberly's strong faith in God . Over all this book was great!!!! I am very disappointed that book # 3 is not in my local Christian Bookstore. Please write another in this exciting series. I am almost finished reading book#
