When you read this book, you find out there is so much that you don't know about the Bible. Its a lot of fun to sit and read this with a friend or relative who shares the same interest as you do. This book is a permanent part of my Bible library. There's enough in there to keep me busy for the rest of my life.

Review of Eroticism and the Body Politic

Review Date: 2000-05-11
This is a scholarly work that brings together various essays on the influence of eroticism and pornography in the context of the political discourse. I concentrated on the articles pertinent to the French Revolution, particularly "The Diamond Necklace Affair: The Case of the Missing Queen," in which Sara Maza explored the disintegration of Marie Antoinette's reputation with the French public. Maza argued that the legal briefs written, published, and widely distributed by the lawyers involved in the prosecution and defense of the Cardinal de Rohan, con artist Jeanne de Valois, and prostitute Nicole Le Guay subtly and in some cases deliberately linked the Queen with the Jeanne and Nicole by way of merging their identities. This is a well-researched book, and easily understood and enjoyed by the casual reader as well as students.

Theodore Roosevelt, As He Presented Himself

"The Essential Theodore Roosevelt" brings together twenty-four of TR's most significant writings and speeches. The selections give the reader a valuable insight into TR's nature writings and policy positions. His words on hyphenated Americans, trusts, Cuban, Panamanian and Philippine policies, organized labor, stay at home moms, conservation, muckrakers, lynchings and a host of other issues are all laid out in this book. Of particular interest are his speeches at Osawatomie, Kansas and to the National Convention of the Progressive Party, which lay out his vision of the Progressive Party. The speech he gave after being shot commands summons the scene to the reader's mind's eye.

As followers of my [...] reviews are aware, I have read extensively on Theodore Roosevelt. This book is an essential part of any study of TR. Other writers give their impressions of TR. This one presents TR as he presented himself to the public.

One of the best books available on the subject

A masterpiece. This book, first published in 1975, still remains one of the best one can turn to for an analysis of the background for the witch hunts in the early modern age. Norman Cohn did a fine demolition job on the nonsense written by Margaret Murray (and, for that matter, Jules Michelet and Montague Summers) on the same subject. A very coherent picture, covering the period of late Antiquity to the 15th century, is presented. The line of reasoning remains crystal clear, while at the same time detailed insight into key incidents (the persecution and trials of the Waldensians, Cathars, Fraticelli, Knights Templar, Pope Boniface VIII, Lady Alice Kyteler) is given. They constitute some of the building blocks for the view that while the ingredients for the "complete" witches' sabbath as it was imagined during the early modern period were already present long before, a number of triggers was necessary to link them effectively together. An important factor was the shift from the accusatory to the inquisitorial legal procedure. I also like the image of the militant optimism of early Christianism (assured of the Devil's limited power vis-a-vis the adherents of the true faith) as opposed to a worn out Christian Europe on the brink of the Reformation, imagining itself to be surrounded by almost omnipotent demons and witches.

Very nicely illustrated. You can tell that this is a re-telling of Pilgrims Progress but thankfully it's not over-worked as such. Instead of being heavily loaded with allegory, it is a delightful story for children. I loved it.

A must read for fans of Colorado State football!

This book documents the amazing 1994 season of the Colorado State Rams football team. I bought the book in 1995, and don't know if it is still in print (probably not), but if you are a Rams fan and get a copy of that book, it is a must read! There are some great, vivid passages that will bring back magical moments of that season such as the BYU and Arizona games, and the amazing comebacks versus Wyoming & Fresno State, as well as the bitter loss against Utah. The book captures not

only what was happening on the field, but will bring back fond memories of what was happening in the stands that season...

If anyone knows how to get a hardcopy of this book, I would love to know...

Creativity and Imagination

Every Kid Needs a Treasure Hunt contains everything you need for a treasure hunt, including a treasure chest, location cards and a small treasure coin. The treasure chest is large enough to contain more treasure and you can add things like jewelry or maybe even a favorite candy or small gift.

I'm sure you remember this game from childhood or even extravagant treasure hunt games at parties and summer camp. This game has never lost its magic and this book makes the game even more interesting with ideas about GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) receivers.

To make this game more fun, have a person who is not playing the game hide the cards. Some of the cards have actions on them to make the game more challenging. Participants may have to hop or crawl to the next clue. Treasure maps can also be drawn out and there are "map papers" at the end of the book.

An intriguing section on "Time Capsules" is included and who knew there were more than 8,500 satellites orbiting the earth.

Warning: This game is not for children under 3 years old. (I assume it is because of the coins.)

You might also want to look for: Every Kid Needs Mod Podge - a decoupage craft project that is even fun for adults! Both books will encourage family time or give children a fun way to enhance their creativity on their own. The books are easy to understand and the instructions are easy to follow. Perfect as gifts or could be used for a birthday party game.
