Delightful!

This was a delightful novel, which was originally a play. It revolves around a slightly daffy Anglo Irish Family a few years after the Second World War. Although their castle is crumbling around them and they are forced to take on "PG's" (paying guests) to make ends meet, the older generation, members of the faded aristocracy, continue to live in the past, when life revolved around endless parties, glasses of champagne, and betting on the horses. A wonderful look at a disappearing world from someone who lived in it. Very well written and entertaining. This is my first Molly Keane novel. I'm looking forward to reading more.

Posh Lunacy- a perfect combination.

Keane is a descriptive and yet concise writer, allowing the reader to experience the lush, posh life of an Irish Manor House, without overwelming James-esque paragraphs. Her story is fanciful, full of twist and turns, and amazingly humorous. Based on her own experiences of small town living, she spins a humorous, almost anecdotal tale of a wealthy family gone broke, having to take in "P-G's" -paying guests to break just barely even. The (lunatic) elders of the family include, Hercules- the childlike uncle, fond of his biccys(biscuits-cookies); Consuelo- the scathingly flippant aunt, fond of spending; and Aunt Anna Rose, widowed baronness who sits in a sedan chair actually believing she is traveling on the Orient Express, phoning her family from abroad on the telephone they've hooked up for her. Titled the Treasure Hunt because of (hidden)lost rubies, if only Aunt Anna Rose could remember where she hid them 50 years before, "I cannot remember, but they are hidden very well"!
This is a spectacularly hilarious book, and a quick read- I picked it up for a $1.50, and put it down just a day later. Anyone who loves timeperiod pieces will adore this. Enjoy.

Must have for clinicians and students

This is a great Australian book on the cognitive-behavioural treatment of anxiety disorders. It is comprehensive in the topics it covers on each disorder, and practical to boot! The initial chapters are on general issues in dealing with anxiety disorders. Subsequent chapters cover panic disorder and agoraphobia, social phobia, specific phobias, OCD, and generalised anxiety disorder. For each of these disorders there is a chapter on the syndrome (what it is), treatment, a clinicians guide to treating the disorder, and a patient treatment manual. The patient manual is particularly useful and can be photocopied from the book to be used in clinical settings. Well worth a look.

A very practical CBT book for treating anxiety disorders

I agree with the previous reviewers comments; this is a must have CBT book. I use this book a great deal in my psychiatric practice to treat patients suffering from anxiety disorders. It has patient manuals which you can copy and give to patients to use in the clinical setting. This is a very popular book in Australia amongst psychologists, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals. We have access to the full range of international CBT books but anecdotaly this is the most popular book in use. This book's only weakness is it lacks a chapter on PTSD. It has a good chapter on "first aid" after a traumatic event but not for treating PTSD as such.

I am an 8 year old boy. I definitely loved this book about treasure hunters from around the world and different times. It even has taught me how the treasure got lost.

I am a big fan of Step into Reading. I have been reading them since Level 1 and not one has failed.

A vital historic reading assignment for the American People
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 16 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-15
This remarkable account takes the American people inside the framework of one of the most spiritual and politically cutting-edge organizations founded within American boundaries during the entire Cold War, the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW). "The Turning" by Andrew E. Hunt is a must-read for all serious students of the Vietnam War contemplating its profound effect on both American culture and the very veterans who were ordered to "pay any price and bear any burden" for the mistaken political and military policies of their nation's involvement in the Southeast Asian conflict. The book's account of the various veterans--from Bobby Muller, John Kerry, Barry Romo, Bill Ehrhart, just to name a few-- who so courageously faced down the entire nation by witnessing in repeated public demonstrations what was REALLY GOING ON in the war, is a stunning reminder to all Americans and the World that for democracy to last, it must have a strong, clear, core collective conscience. No other organization so poignantly and forcefully challenged U.S. policy in Indochina as did the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. Even today, all history texts pertaining to this period touch the subject of VVAW's presence as the cutting edge of the American anti-war movement, and indeed, of our national conscience at the time. It is not surprising to me that the veterans of VVAW, such as Mr. Bobby (USMC lst Lt. 1968-69), also launched the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) in 1979, which fought for the rights of the veterans of that conflict against an embarrassingly silent American government. Mr. Muller went on in his life to also found the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) in 1980 which dealt with the issues of war and its consequences. This remarkable veteran organized the first visit of VVA vets back to Hanoi during Christmas in 1981 and, in doing so, launched the entire process of reconciliation between veterans' groups and the governments of both America and Vietnam which culminated in the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations in July of 1995. While following this most courageous path of peace, VVAF--under Mr. Muller's leadership-- initiated rehabilitation and humanitarian clinics in both Vietnam and Cambodia in the early 90's, assisting the thousands of forgotten, innocent landmine victims suffering throughout Indochina. This effort lead to Mr. Muller's conception of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) in 1991 which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 and became a legally-binding international treaty in March of 1999. The core qualities of seeking justice and witnessing truth inherent in VVAW's spiritual influence on the veterans who belonged to it in the 60's, 70's and up to the present, can be evidenced today in the continued remarkable achievements of those vets like Mr. Bobby Muller. By understanding the organization VVAW--its orgins and evolution-- the reader will learn to appreciate how men,-- under heavy fire of both war and protest of war--, have carried within their souls the spark to enlighten and change the world and humanity for the better. Anyone with a conscience should read this book and be challenged by the information it contains. Thank you, Mr. Hunt, for taking the time to compile this vital history of a unique organization which helped the conscience of this nation turn towards sorely-needed enlightment.

This book is, to say the least, well-written. It is concise, detailed, written with the same degree of passion for history that characterizes all of Hunt's work. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in the response to the Vietnam War and its impact upon American society.

Werewolf Darius Stewart has been banished from his pack. He was the Enforcer and evidently the new management does not want him around. Sick at heart, Darius stoically accepts the punishment and his orders. With his two closest friends beside him, Darius relocates to Alabama to start his own pack. Darius has one year to prove his worth as Alpha and in doing so, have his pack officially registers and identified. Now, all he has to do is convince Meg O'Reilly that she is his mate.

Meg O'Reilly owns her own business and answers to no one, not even an extremely sexy alpha male like Darius Stewart. Meg met Darius a month ago and can't stop thinking about him. Daily, Meg has to fight with herself to not seek him out because she knows they would never work; she is a witch and she knows that Darius isn't 100% human. Meg accepts this rationalization in her heart but her mind and aroused body will not agree.

Darius and Meg meet face to face in an antique shop where Darius convinces her to walk with him to her closed bar for privacy. As soon as the door is closed and locked, both lose control in an erotic, sinfully delicious encounter that leaves them both breathless. Interrupted by Darius' phone ringing, the lovers retreat to separate corners but agree to meet later. It's later that night that things begin to heat up for the lovers as well as for Darius' new pack.

Under the Cover of the Moon by Loribelle Hunt grabbed a hold of me from the first word and refused to let me go. Utterly entranced by Darius and Meg, I never put Under the Cover of the Moon down. While reading, I decided that if Meg was stubborn about mating Darius that I would swoop in and snatch him for myself!

Under the Cover of the Moon was the perfect read for me. Full of alpha maleness and a bit of female stubbornness, it is sinfully naughty and just plain wonderful. I wait with unabashed glee for the second book of this series!

Great reading for an unbeliever, a new believer, or a vetran of the faith

This book is excellent, in case you can't tell from my 5 star rating or my title. I believe every Christian should read this book, and then pass it on. Better yet, keep your copy for a reference, and buy another to pass on.

This book is divided into five sections. The first section is just as good as C. S. Lewis' classic "Mere Christianity", talking about faith from a philosophical point of view, proving the reality of the Spiritual on the level of a non-religious person. This section continues on with prayer, and concludes as pointing out how reliable the Bible is for the source of truth.

The remainder of the book helps one grow deeper in his/her Christian life. It does deal with controversial topics. One major topic is pointing out the danger of the self-love movement. The fourth section deals with issues like the incarnation, the church, and eternal security. The final section focuses on the hope of heaven, based on a pre-millennial, pre-tribulational rapture viewpoint.

As stated, some of these topics are controversial. However, Hunt uses the Bible as the source of his teachings. His approach is that the Bible is understandable, and that faith is not contrary to reason but that true faith moves in the direction reason points, and then takes the next step.

This book is good to introduce an unbeliever to Christianity. It also is good for a new believer to ground them in the faith. Of course, more mature believers need to be reminded of the basics, because it is easy to be influenced by ideas that are rooted in the world, and not in Christianity/Scripture.

A Spiritually Well-Grounded Book for Every Believer!

Christians, if you want to grow spiritually by faith and not by some kind of positive mental attitude, then this book is for you. It will also help you understand why there is a mass delusion that is sweeping in many so-called evangelical churches.Dave Hunt makes it loud and clear that faith is not a leap in the dark. There is a convincing and rational defense for the gospel, and only the Christian can hope for tomorrow. It is indeed an Urgent Call to a Serious Faith.

There are a lot of packaged Christian books out there, but this one is genuine and true to God and His unfailing word. Dave Hunt obviously knows the scriptures well. There is an occasional extreme position on another Christian leader that leads one to question Dave's internal motivations, but other than that, his truths and direct style in this book are foundational to anyone serious about the only way to know God - through Jesus Christ. I highly recommend this masterpiece. It is life changing and takes us back to the real only book we need for life, the Bible.

I first read this book in Spanish and I was disappointed when I read the English version. It is a great translation and a lot of fun to read out loud. I only wish this book was still in print. We have been reading a library copy and I will be sad to see it leave our house.

The Spanish translation of this book is BETTER than the original in English. The story, about a father and his children pretending that they are going on a bear hunt, is imaginative and entertaining. And the ending is funny and exciting. (The bear gets away unharmed.) This book is great fun to read aloud. I highly recommend it.

Great book that helped me understand a problem that very complicated and hard to understand. The book breaks things down in a really easy to understand but smart way, and I like the way it is broken up into "choices", which are the different solutions that are out there.

I got another book by these guys and I think the books are just perfect for a person to get up speed on a public issue. It says in the back that you can use them in discussion groups, although my wife and I just used ours to read. Either way, I really like how the book presents the information to make it easy to understand the "why" and "what can be done" of a really upsetting problem. I thought it was even better that they included specific actions you could take depending on what "choice" you agree with. I don't like books that just define a problem and leave you hanging. This one didn't!

Thumbs up from the big apple! My wife and I were really impressed and I feel like I understand the issue alot better.

This book is hands down, one of the most amazing, inspirational books I've read in a long time. Many college students would benefit from reading this book. Rabow takes a look at institutionalized racism on one of the most premiere campuses in the United States: UCLA. Taken from the wordss of college students themselves, this book is revolutionary and should be read by everyone.

Review Date: 2002-09-26
This is a collection of stories from students who voice their personal struggles, express their pain, and address the injustice they have encountered due to racism in today's society. Their powerful stories touch on changing physical appearances, names, and accents in order to conform to the standards set by white dominance. Once you read this book it will open your eyes to the existing glass ceilings, the unspoken inequalities, and prejudices people are faced with on a daily basis. Through Voices of Pain Voices of Hope Dr. Jerome Rabow explores issues such as superiority amongst white dominance and the ideology of increasing your own value, and position at the expense of those from your won race, and others. His writing is both informative and powerful. Jerome Rabow sheds light on the issues America has been struggling with, and acknowledges the pain of those who have encountered racism. This by far is an exceptional book many can learn and benefit from.
