This book contains instructions for making just about every imaginable type of puppet: cloth hand puppets, finger puppets, glove puppets, paper bag puppets, cup puppets, stick puppets. . . It has patterns for making a story apron, including instructions for creating scenery on the apron. It also has suggestions for puppets to go with specific children's books, poems, or songs. There are puppet making activities for children that are appropriate throughout the elementary years. It's full of photographs and amusing illustrations.

A great resource!

As a reading teacher I found this book to be very helpful in teaching strategies such as comprehension, vocabulary, fluency. . . BUT I think that this book is MUCH more VALUABLE to a content teacher. It shows you how to introduce reading skills for text books. Often, content teachers do not know why a student isn't succeeding in his/her class. Often it is because the student cannot read the text book. This book will show you how to introduce strategies so that your students will do well in your class! This is for ALL secondary teachers!

The best book on color photogaphy I have ever read

Review Date: 2007-04-29
In my opinion, this is the best book on color photography that I have read. Of course, it covers other topics, but it devotes a substantial amount of text, graphs and formulas to that topic. In recent months, I have acquired a fair number of books on the subject of photography and color theory, some of them very formula-intensive and some descriptive and math-primitive; but this one stands head and shoulder above the rest in its effort to describe the fundamental principles.

I bought this book primarily because I wanted to learn whether it is possible, and if it is, how to predict the RGB density values of negative film versus the CYM density of the photo enlarging filter. I believe that I have found my answers in this book. Yet I was also quite pleasantly surprised to learn a lot more about color photography and reproduction. As I was reading this book, many things to which I had had unanswered questions from reading those other books have fallen in their logical place.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in color photography and who wants to learn not only the practical aspects of it (i.e. the result and the practice) but also the "why" of it (i.e. its scientific and experimental fundamentals). You do, though, have to have some knowledge of linear algebra and chemistry, although I would not call this book math-intensive.

The definitive reference on the reproduction of color.

The author has an impressive array of initials after his name; he is, amongst other things, a Doctor of Science, a Member of the Imperial College, an Associate of the Royal College of Science, and a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society as well as a Visiting Professor of Physiological Optics and of Colour Science, and a former Assistant Director of Research at Kodak. He has also been Chairman of the Colorimetry Committee of the International Commision on Illumination, and Chairman of the International Colour Association.

First published in 1957 and now in its much enhanced 5th edition, The Reproduction of Colour is the most comprehensive single resource available. Two quotes from the preface to the 5th edition describe what it is about:

"The object (is to present) the fundamental principles of colour reproduction, whether by photography, television, or printing in the hopes that all those engaged in producing, selling, buying, or using colour pictures will be able to see the nature of the problems they encounter. Those who want a general statement on colour reproduction will find it in the first part, and those who want a more detailed discussion of any one application in which they are particularly interested (will find it) in the later parts." and "The reproduction of colour involves physiology, psychology, physics, chemistry, and technology. presents complexities, (and) involves a wide variety of enterprises". Even though there are individuals skilled in processing and printing their own color film, and DTP bureaux had taken over some of the work of traditional printing houses, color reproduction was, until not so long ago, the province of technicians in the photographic, printing, and television industries, Now we have crossed the threshold of a new era in which a massive technology transfer is taking place, putting effective control over color into the hands of a much wider range of users. Even home users now have available to them very powerful tools that enable production of images that are, to the ordinary eye, indistinguishable from quality photographic prints.

That brings with it a need to understand the technology of color reproduction, and the definitive text is Dr Hunt's book. I have rated it 10/10 because of the remarkably wide range of disciplines covered and its astounding technical depth. Without it most of the information presented would have to be gleaned from numerous other books, professional journals, and published papers. Further, one does not have to have a scientific background to gain some understanding of what is involved in the reproduction of color. The fields covered television, photography, and printing are becoming less discrete with the application of digital technology; those who use computerized systems for the reproduction of color images will find relevant information spread throughout most parts of this book.

It is not a popular account, a color-for-cretins guide, or a how-to manual. This is a technical resource written in a style that makes it readable without diluting its professional integrity. Not all readers will need, or even want, to know the chemical structure of cyclic methylene magneta couplers, but may want information about the effects of signal processing on color reproduction. In what other recently published text would one find a comparison table of film speeds that includes the Weston system?

The Reproduction of Colour should be in any library with holdings on technical subjects; professionals in DTP, printing, photolabs, television, and digital imaging should have it; and anyone teaching or studying graphic arts, computer science, photography, printing, or subjects related to television technology should be aware of this edition. A check of some large libraries suggests that librarians may think earlier editions are good enough, but new developments demand this latest edition. Teachers of science in sub-tertiary institutions may well find this a useful text for its practical application of science to topical real-life problems.

The book is divided into parts: Fundamentals, Color Photography, Color Television, Color Printing, and Evaluating Color Appearance. Each chapter opens with an introduction that provides a succinct overview of the topic. Reviewed by Major Keary [majkeary@netspace.net.au]

We have not yet completed this Bible study, but I'm a big fan of the Fisherman Bible Studyguides series. You read scripture, then talk about how it's applicable to our lives today. And I really like this approach to studying Revelation: Basically, that we can't know exactly what all the signs and symbols mean, we can't determine the timing, etc., because only God knows how the end times will really play out. But we can be blessed by a deeper knowledge of God's word and growing in our relationship with Him through studying the book of Revelation.

"Revelation: The Lamb Who Is the Lion" by Gladys Hunt impressed me enough to explore other Fisherman Bible Study Guides. My small group Bible study used it week by week, fully engaged and involved in discovering what Revelations is about.

That Revelation is among the Bible's more controversial books, and the most vastly interpreted is no secret. Therefore, finding a way to study it with being encumbered without a strong theological bias is a challenge.

I am not usually a big fan of Bible study workbooks because either they speak over the reader, or down to the reader. A common frustration for me is when it has us read John 3:16, then asks, "Who gave his only son?" Not Gladys Hunt. She asks real question, letting the Bible speak for itself.

A typical question for study and discussion is for Revelation 14 "How are the 144,000 described in verse 1 sharply distinguished from the people mention in 13:16-17?"

Each chapter divides Revelation by chapter, occasionally combining chapters, covering all of Revelation's 22 chapters in 12 lessons, with a thirteenth lesson helping understand the book as a complete unit.

Leaders notes are at the end, presenting the complexities and controversies, as well as insight regarding the culture, the perspectives, and various ideas impacting the mind of John, plus significant thoughts by leading thinkers.

A topical bibliography finishes it off, with roughly 90-100 books listed for further reading.

I fully recommend "Revelation: The Lamb Who Is the Lion" by Gladys Hunt.

I love that book on Rodeo Rocky (Horses of Half Moon Ranch series) by author Jenny Oldfield & it must be a great book.

At a local rodeo contest, Kirstie is horrified to spot one badly-cut horse being forced back into thr arena.
She pleads for him to be withdrawn from the rodeo and persuades her mother to buy him for Half-Moon Ranch.
But training an ex-rodeo pony is not easy, and when Rocky throws Kirstie on a steep mountain trail, his fate hangs in the balance once more. Will Kristie win her fight to keep & tame the problem horse?

Some people will have to read this book to find out if Kirstie will win her fight just to keep and tame the problem horse.

In this book on chapter 1, Kirstie at the rodeo was watching the team roping & two riders had entered chutes to either side.

They all roped the steers legs & horns & in the book it said "I always feel sorry for the steers," she told Hadley quietly.

This is an intereasting rodeo & it kind of makes me want to go to the Ellensburg Rodeo & do calf roping there & Ellensburg is in Washington.

This is a great book & I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the average guy need to know about sound and stero equipment is inside.

DJ's, Ravers, Hip-Hop artist will really enjoy the secton on records and needles.

Save money and buy gear that works together and sounds better than you ever knew it could. The right amp with the right speaker can cost half of what you paid last time and sound better. There is a reason why, and Bill Nye won't cover audio gear. But if he did this is the book you would have.

Want more BASS?? Learn what it is and how to get more, for free.

Find out:
what an EQ is really used for,
what those electronics really do,
how to stop blowing cash and speakers,
what all those letters and numbers mean on a spec sheet,
and more.

It is writen for musicians and artist, not scientist or people who work with numbers all day long. But if you want to know more about stereo and Audio gear this book is it. My mom can't program her VCR but she could hook up any stereo after reading this book.

Excellent theoretical study for the technical /non-technical

I orignally read this book as my course text at Drexel Unversity in Phila. as part of an elective taught by the physics department.

If you are interested in the scienific theory behind your stereo system this is the book for you. Does not require and engineering degree to understand, but some very basic math is presented for some subjects.

Very helpful in understanding the technology that audiophiles spend so much money on. You'll be a high fidelity expert by the time you are finished with this text book. No salesman will even have a change with you again.

The Secret Behind Secret Societies

Jon Rappoport is a truly special man.

Review Date: 2005-04-14
I was at my local metaphysical bookstore in 1998 when I ran across this odd looking book. With no title and an unusual looking symbol on the cover, I was instantly attracted to picking it up and reading it.

Now I've always had a metaphysical bent about me, but I've never ran across anything like this before. Starting from the introduction page, I was instantly hooked. He(Rappoport) started talking about how secrect societies wasn't just your standard image of 'cults', but it really encompasses every group on this planet(religions, political groups, medical organizations, the media) that seek to control your imagination(and your mind) by painting a certain programmed image of reality and having the masses out there swim in it and buy into it without question.

There are no set chapters in this book; each page and section flows freely as he describes all facets of his personal experiences(his paintings, his time with a personal healer, a hypnotist, former mind control victims, etc.).

This book has truly transformed me and how I view everything in life. In fact, in a way, this has helped saved my life. In late 2003, I was diagnosed with a certain physical condition. Rather than potentailly harming me worse by getting covential treatment(the ultimate theme in this book, in my opinion, is the ability to make an informed decision, free from deception and misleading information), I decided to have a say in my own health choices and seeked alternative forms of healing. I eventually tackled my diagnosed condition and am currently living a very healthy life.

This is a truly amazing and eye opening book. More than just being about "conspiracy theories"(a word in which the media, of course, has raked over the coals), this book is about the true inner workings of this planet. It has really deprogrammed my mind regarding how this planet works. Two things: (a) GET THIS BOOK(in fact, get it as a gift also), (b) Check out the authors website for much more info on things that he discusses about in this book(just type the name Jon Rappoport into any search engine).

The 'Secret Behind the Secret Societies' is power for all.

Jon Rappoport, for those unfamiliar with him, is one of those men for all seasons. An investigative reporter by trade, he is really a philosopher at heart. His previous publications, Aids Inc.:The Scandal of the Century, Oklahoma City Bombing:The Suppressed Truth and Madalyn Murray O'hare: "The Most Hated Woman in America" were all investigative in nature, but this latest work is not one of those, entirely. The subject category printed on the back cover is 'Self Actualization'. His more recent book, Lifting the Veil: David Icke Interviewed by Jon Rappoport, is a preview of the format for this latest publication.

In Rappoport's down to earth 'man on the street' style of journalism, we are taken on a journey through one man's time and memory of early experiences that created the foundation for his quest for truth and individual freedom. Along the way we are treated to interviews with people who have belonged to secret societies and those from a different camp, one where the innate power of the individual is manifested and practiced. We are shown how these two camps are in direct opposition to one another, i.e., how the secret societies keep this power from the individual, herding all of society along as common cattle.

The journey begins in Greenwich Village, New York in 1961. Fresh out of Amherst College with a degree in Philosophy, Rappoport was working his last day at a bookstore. In walks a man who asks about books on healing. All they had were books by Wilhelm Reich, if that was what he wanted. The man claimed he had all of those in French and German despite the US ban having been lifted. He makes a remark about Reich being 'on the inside' but having found out a lot for someone in his position. Rappoport a bit of a skeptic points out Reich was a student of Freud who breaks away and dies in jail. The man explains that 'inside' is a relative term but compared to Reich the healing he is referring is '...on Mars. These people don't write books.' This man explains he makes his living by treating sick people. Rappoport, very curious, now has to find out what this man, Richard Jenkins, is talking about. He invites Rappoport to his apartment to watch as he performs on his clients.

For the next year Rappoport is introduced to an unwritten tradition of healing where someone lies down on a table and the practioner, Jenkins in this case, appears to move energy around the person's body using his hands. The people report many things besides a return to health. Some are there simply to explore the effects of this energy manipulation on their minds. Rappoport begins to apprentice. After that year, Jenkins and his wife leave New York to finish their long time search for the origins of this tradition, having told Rappoport of what they had learned so far.

Rappoport continues to treat clients on his own, learning from his own silent inner dialogue when practicing and listening carefully to accounts of their physical and psychic experiences. This 'Tradition of Imagination', as he grew to identify it, becomes the major theme in this book contrasted in depth with its antithesis, the 'Formula of the Secret Society'. We are compelled to join in a search for the beginnings of this tradition. Where did it originate? Who originated it? What else did they know? Rappoport reveals the clues he was given from a personal source, a contact to the forebearer of Richard Jenkins, and looks to the present and reaches back into history and time immemoriam chasing down avenues and corridors for this priceless understanding of a hidden tradition in human history. We visit the Dead Sea Scrolls, advanced paranormal powers, Dean Radin, Giordano Bruno and mystical Tibetan Buddhism.

Alongside this theme of the 'Tradition of Imagination' we are also guided through a detailed anatomy lesson on the 'Formula of the Secret Society'. With X-Ray perception, Rappoport spells it out for us. "The tradition is the opposite of the formula of the secret society, a cult, a religion and institution that creates art in order to imprison the mind. The opposite."

Being a painter himself, Rappoport attributes the brushstroke of imagination to the powers secret societies wield to create a picture in which everyone of us is framed among the powerful system of archetypal symbols. We are told nothing exists outside the frame and the only way to achieve bliss is through 'us' and our construction of leaders and hierarchies.

We are presented with several eyewitnesses, people who have left cults, a hypnotist and deprogrammer and their stories in first hand interviews of how manipulation according to the formula and its emerging corollaries is effected. Here we get close looks at the Roman Catholic Church, Masonry, The Knights Templar, Theosophy and of course this wouldn't be complete without Nazi Germany and collusion with US investors, CIA and MKULTRA, CFR, Trilateralists and American multinational corporations. That last category is stunning. Rappoport believes and exposes as fact that today our major multinational corporations, e.g, Dow, DuPont, Monsanto, etc., function no differently than secret societies of old.

In the last parts of the book we look at contemporary pesonalities that personify this 'Tradition of Imagination'. Most memorable was an interview with Ted Clarke, US space program engineer for JPL, who tells us about his fantastic vision for the future. Also text is devoted to hypnotist and deprogrammer, Jack True, who has personally witnessed the affects of the 'Formula of the Secret Society', and further help describe the function and dynamics of this tool. There are in addition several case studies presented of individuals who have chosen to develop their own 'Tradition of Imagination'. The sessions documented by the author are most intriguing, offering the needed motivation for one to experiment on his own.

In summation, this is one man's Opus Magnus. It comes from deep inside, incorporating nearly all of his adult life's work. The book is more than investigative journalism. It is a wake up call; not in the typical sense to become aware of what is going on around you, but a call to wake up to who you really are. It will entertain and at the same time cause you to think and ponder your position in the grand scheme ot things as a rational human being, who may have on one occaision considered what this 'rat race' is all about and questioned: 'Is that all there is?'.

The only other people you may find are other nature lovers. You'll feel like a true explorer the first time you see the eternal flame burning behind the waterfall and then climb up the root ladder. But use caution! These are off the beaten path and no safety's are around. It is truely at your own risk and you need to be nature savvy.
