This book is the best book I've seen for teaching fundamental Architectural design. It is both simple and sophisticated, and the exercises it contains are accessible to all students, yet have the depth to challenge the most advanced graduate students. Where Ching teaches the mechanics of design, this book teaches the thinking processes of design. The readings included in the book are especially relevant to Architectural and aesthetic education. The ideas put forth in this book have in many ways become a de-facto standard for Architectural design education. - Glad to see it's on order.

Here's how to capitalize on hot new trends in travel

If, like my husband and me, you've sped hundreds of miles up a craggy coast for a succulent Maine lobster; raced across the entire state of North Carolina for a rendezvous with ribs; or traded your last two-bits for a slice of shoo-fly pie in Pennsylvania Dutch country; it will come as no surprise that 60% of American leisure travelers are planning to do the same sometime soon.
The first-of-its-kind national survey on culinary tourism by the Travel Industry Association (TIA) and the International Culinary Tourism Association released in 2007 shows that 27 million American leisure travelers engaged in culinary or wine-related activities while traveling within the past three years. That number will more than triple in the near future, according to survey responses, as travelers plan their trips around unique and memorable experiences.
Erik Wolf's spiral-bound book is a primer for communities on how they can get their piece of the pie. Keep in mind the book, and the organization's web site, are designed for professionals in the travel, leisure, food and beverage industry, but it's a great read nonetheless.

Finally culinary tourism has graduated from academia into the business world. The author gives a well-conceived, and well-articulated discussion of culinary tourism, including its history, definition, components, and benefits to key stakeholders. The author's style also makes it a fast, entertaining read. Highly recommended.

My 4 year old daughter and I finished this book and she was not only excited about finishing her first "big" book, but she told me how much she enjoyed reading it every night before bedtime. She faithfully reminded me (even when I thought I was too tired to read it to her) that it was time for devotions. It also allowed her and I quality time together and for her to ask questions about God's Word. Recommend highly.

All of the Dora books are wonderful for little ones my granddaughter is only 2 and because of the Dora TV shows and books, she can count to ten in spanish and a few words in spanish, her colors, her manners, I love to buy books for my grandkids especially when they show an interest in them, we read everyday at least 4 to 6 books a day and she never gets tired of them.

On a recent trip we purchased quite a few sticker books to keep our toddler occupied, and I thought this was one of the best. In addition to having almost 30 reusable stickers, there was also a Dora story involved, adding some depth to the play. Children plaster stickers to the map, solve minor puzzles, dodge Swiper, and open a treasure chest as Dora and Boots dance with joy. Nicely done.

My six-month old loves this book. We have several of Chuck Murphy's Razzle Dazzle books, and so far this one seems to be her favorite. The book features children searching for Easter eggs in various locations. Each page has a simple phrase that describes the picture, such as "UNDER the flowerpot" or "IN the grass", and each Easter egg is a colorful, foil-like insert on the page. It's a great book for introducing reading to a child... Colorful, lots to talk about with the child, and just the right number of pages to maintain attention. And it's a nice, chunky board book too, so I can give it to my daughter to play with independently without having her tear it.

I bought this book for my daughter when she was 4. She loved it and asked me to read it over and over. We also did the hunt for Easter and it was so much fun. I got it out to buy a copy for Sunday School and when she saw it she was thrilled. I couldn't believe she remembered it from last year! It is a fabulous alternative to bunnies and does and excellent job of teaching the real meaning of Easter. A great way to start a new family tradition.

If David Lynch impregnated Paul Auster, or vise versa, and the no-doubt prodigiously coifed offspring, inspired by W.G. Sebald's THE RINGS OF SATURN, were to write a novel set in New York's East Village, this would be it. Funny, atmospheric and just plain cool.

The Exquisite has pleasured me more than any other novel this year.
More, in fact, than any novel since either B.S. Johnson's or Hunt's last. That The Exquisite (and, indeed, Hunt's work in general) is regularly compared to Paul Auster's novels is certainly good copy: but it fails to take into account the fact that the wan light which emanates from the pages of all his works is his and his alone. One is reminded of Kafka, Wodehouse, Creeley; and yet when one puts down the latest Hunt novel there is a sadness to the knowledge that nothing will come along that is quite as satisfying (and that is certainly the right word) until his next.
What goes on in The Exquisite is best left untold, for, although what goes on in the novel is the reason most first-time readers will initially go to it, it is the how of the telling that is most compelling. Hunt's prose: at times surreal, at times delicate, at times as robust as Hemingway, never fails to engage, amaze and amuse.
There are very few authors today who are moving the novel on from its moribund and money-bound pastures. It is both a surprise and relief that The Exquisite (Hunt's finest work since The Paris Stories) is in the world doing just that.

Edgar Font's second adventure (The Fakersville Power Station) is a wonderful book for summer, fall, winter and spring. I purchased it for my daughter just before school started and she has already turned in a book report on it (B+ Yeah!) and now she can't wait for number 3. I highly recommend this and the first Edgar Font book to all mothers, teachers and kids. Especially with Halloween and Christmas coming up.

Combine Doyle's unparalleled storytelling with a little guidance from the spirit world and the result is this ingenious literary concoction second in sequence only. In the forward readers are greeted with a letter from the author, which explains the origin of the story and includes a special note of thanks to his ghostly housemate, thus setting the stage for a magical reading experience.
Audrey and Garrett Font had been certain this would be the most boring summer ever--but that was before their week long Lighthouse adventure. Now, they were just as excited as dear ol' grandpa to explore the beautiful, colonial-style house tucked into the base of a towering waterfall. Following Great Grandpa, Leo Font's drawings, the trio make their way into the vast forests of Northern California in search of Fakersville. But after sixty years, Grandpa's memories of this picturesque area seem to be the only thing left of this once vibrant mining town. How could they find the house grandpa was so anxious to explore if they couldn't even find the town?
The first, of the new characters to be introduced is the cantankerous, president of the Inventor's Club, Mr. Howard August. Listening to his stories the Font's learn a great deal about the history of Fakersville, from thriving quartz mining area to a deserted ghost town of sorts, where curiosity seekers simply disappear.
Following a series of clues and solving puzzles, with the assistance of a new friend, the Font's begin to uncover the towns long buried secrets. But is it too late? Can they rescue their beloved grandpa and prevent the Mayor from writing another chapter in the mysterious story of Fakersville.
There's a lot going on in this story, much of which has been skillfully layered, so that educational and moral lessons are brilliantly disguised as entertainment. Among the themes beautifully woven into this work are the dangers of scientific irresponsibility, unthinking conformity and the power of choice. Adding depth and realism to the adventure are a myriad of unique drawings throughout the story. The novel is populated by a cast of colorful characters that are complex, three dimensional and well developed. There's an almost tangible innocence in Doyle's writing that allows him to reach across the cynicism that comes with age and transport young and old alike into the wonderful, whimsical world of Edgar Font...if only for a few hours.
At the end of the book there's a puzzle waiting to be decoded, along with an intriguing picture said to be the third destination on Grandpa Font's list of possible haunts. I can't wait!
Happy Reading!
