Strong, well rounded characters and a funny and unusual plot with a totally unexpected twist at the end. The book reveals the devastating impact of political interference in the housing market. Thought provoking, memorable and well-written - a rare find in today's literary world. This book should be enjoyed and savoured like a fine cognac.

The story shows how complicated Real Estate development can be in the UK . Mr hunt captures the personalities of both the vendors , developers and how the local council employees each have a different view to what is required ,and but really dont understand the true needs of the local community .

Ron Faucheux knew what he was talking about when he wrote this book. This book is a virtual blueprint on how to win a political campaign. It is not for everyone but for anyone in the political industry you will use it like a bible ! This book along with Chris Matthews' Hardball and John Brady's Bad Boy is required reading for all political junkies and soon to be campaign managers. I cannot recommend this book enough !

Saving my students!

As a professor who relies extensively on powerpoint presentations in class--and often on the 'packaged presentations' included with textbook supplemental materials--I am now revising ALL of my slides! Dr. Earnest's succinct book is so packed full of helpful, humorous insights, I read it all in one sitting. Then, I frantically searched through my own powerpoint slides and, sure enough, found "Fireball" and "High Voltage" lurking in my lectures! Surely, my students will appreciate my updated slides. No more "shades of blue so dreary" or "stale potato chips" in my classroom!

Dr. Earnest's book provides succinct, easily implemented guidance for sharpening your presentation visuals. With a few simple changes, such as focusing your slides on images more than text, you can improve the effectiveness of your communication -- getting more applause and less snores! This book is required in my undergraduate business communication class at The University of Texas at Austin, and my students send me countless stories of the rave reviews they receive on their presentations in other classes, on internships, and in their first jobs.

Please do all of your future audiences a favor and read this book!

Just What PowerPoint Users Need

Review Date: 2007-09-17
Contemporary users of presentation software like PowerPoint know how to use the program itself. What we often know less about, and the subject of Earnest's humorous and handy book, is good slide design.

Good slide design keeps your audience engaged with your message without lulling them to sleep. Good design complements your presentation without becoming a complete text of everything you wish to say. Good design skillfully incorporates a blend of template, fonts, and graphics that adds to the communicative effectiveness of your presentation. Anyone who uses PowerPoint (teachers, students, business professionals) can benefit from Earnest's on-target advice.

Using a lighthearted, crisply-written style, Earnest offer 5 easily-understood rules of good slide design that everyone can use. The specific visual examples throughout the handbook help readers to zero in on the key components of each rule of design. Moreover, Earnest's sense of humor allows the reader to recognize the kinds of slide design violations we're all guilty of making from time to time, and to have fun while learning how to avoid such infractions in the future.

Outstanding Spy series for young kids

Review Date: 2008-02-17
Though there are some mystery series available for young kids, there are no secret agent or spy series. And this one is great. It can be read aloud to young kids or by themselves for early elementary aged children. Our son loves identifying with Jack, a young child who belongs to the GPF - Global Protection Force - a super secret international agency, whose detectives are all young. And the books are complete with all the super "high-tech" gadgets one would expect from a James Bond type series set for a much younger crowd. (In fact, for adults, the series is a bit of a spoof of the adult James Bond version.) The books are not meticulously researched like the Magic Tree House series. The educational component consists of introducing children to different parts of the world. As a parent, I've enjoyed reading them to my 7 yr old son (and they made a great follow up to a visit to the International Spy Museum in Washington DC). For the most part though, these books are really, really fun reading in a an action, spy, secret agent genre that is not otherwise available for kids. I have the next two books on pre-order and can't wait for them to come in! We've even started gifting them for birthday parties.

Jack Stalwart is a 9 year old secret agent. He receives missions from his ordinary looking globe and jumps into the map on his wall to travel around the globe to his adventures. This is a great read for youngsters who long for adventure. There are great gadgets and this volume has a rampaging dinosaur loose in New York City. Karen Woodworth Roman wwww.librarians.info

My 5 year old son loved this book! If I didn't make him put it down to go to bed he would have read it all in one night. When I woke up the next morning his light was already on and he was reading the rest. He needed help with some of the words but understood most of it. My son tends to get bored quickly so this was one book that really held his attention (it also helps that he is really interested in dinosaurs as well).

It's a nice introductory chapter book with very short chapters that are 5-7 pages long. The illustrations every couple of pages help hold the kids attention.

The book begins by introducing Jack Stalwart and his bag of high-tech secret agent gadgets such as a fly board, neutralizing spray, and goo gel. Jack solves mysteries with the help of his magic map that allows him to transport himself anywhere in the world. In this book he travels to New York City to solve a mystery involving a missing dinosaur bone. With his quick thinking and assistance from his gadgets, Jack solves the mystery in the end. The gadgets really excited my 5 year old and at the end he was wondering if the map lets Jack travel through time if he returns one minute later.

If you're looking for a book that is more scientifically plausible, this is not it, but this is a great story that fires up the imagination and is a nice introductory chapter book if your child is starting to move beyond Curious George and Dr. Seuss.

This book brilliantly covers a very controversial subject. It's interesting that such a serious yet little understood subject could be so thoroughly and logically covered in such a short book. I have read this author before, and it's refreshing to read the logic he employs. I was already certain of my eternal future, but this book should greatly benefit the serious seeker of God and eternal life.

Philip Ginsburg has done it again! Like Poisoned Blood, I could hardly put this book down. Shadow of Death is an in-depth look at a series of murders and the investigations in New Hampshire and Vermont in the 1980s. As I read, I experienced the frustration and the urgency of the detectives and the profiler to catch the killer (or killers). Although the murders remain unsolved, it wasn't for lack of trying. Philip Ginsburg has done a remarkable job in relating the murders, and detailing the victims, the psychologist, and the detectives, to the point where you know them well. Truly one of the best books on a serial murder investigation.

When you first read this book you will probably think this is the best book ever written, I did! I live in New Hampshire and when I read it I was so entriged by the wording that it just pulled me into the book and I thought I was one of the FBI officers working on the case with them. If you like to read Supense Thriller and Murder books you will diffently want to add this book to your collect like I did. I hope you read this book, and enjoyed it as must as I did. This is the book to buy if you have any interest in pursuing a career as a Paralegal. The information is up-to-date and covers everything; from an overview of the Paralegal field, to choosing the right training/education program, to entering the workforce, to those first days practicing as a paralegal. Insight into the workings of a Law Firm, resume writing, job search resources, interviewing tips, plus appendices covering "Legal Lingo", Paralegal Schools, Paralegal Organizations, and so much more. What really sold me on the book is the "Free Resume Critique" that the Estrin Organization offers at the end. When you are ready, simply send your resume with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and they will review and return your resume; giving ratings in twenty areas on a scale of 1 to 5. After months of research this is the only resource I found that was so concise. I will begin post-graduate work towards a Paralegal degree this fall.

I didn't have a clue where to start to look for a paralegal job. I have been in this field for five years at one job and was out of touch with what's going on in the marketplace. I picked up this book and found everything I needed - from resume writing to what to expect in the interview to hidden meanings behind the questions asked. I also found the salary negotiation section extremely helpful. When I went on my final interview, I found that I was able to use some of the techniques successfully. The book gave me resources I hadn't even thought about. I think that I was able to get my job more quickly by reading this book. I highly recommend it to experienced, non-experienced paralegals and even those just thinking about entering the field. Now that I think about it, it can apply to just about anyone!

The Successful Paralegal Job Search Guide is absolutely the most informative book I have seen yet on the market. It is chock full of sample resumes, cover letters, and most importantly, strategy techniques. It appeals to paralegals of all levels - entry to senior - and all specialties. The step-by-step tips on what can occur during the interview is particularly important. The background information, resources, on-line resources are excellent. I loved the 275 questions you can be asked on the interview and was thrilled to find 275 questions that I could ask! I have never seen that before. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is in the field, who is thinking about entering the field and for schools seeking to assist students in finding a paralegal job. Chere Estrin is an icon in this business and has written yet another winner!

What a good read! Bill Cobb is a respectable hard working brother who strives to be the "best of the best" on his job. Hey ladies, he loves his family and adores Lisa, the love of his life. Surazal is a page turner that will appeal to both male and females. You've got lots of suspense with a pleasant twist of romance. Bill's quest is to find the unidentified man in his deceased grandfathers photos? Is he a long lost relative? It is truly a must read and I need the sequel!

This book is a page turner. I actually took a half day off from work so I could go home and finish this book. I was very tempted to read the last chapter about midway but I am so glad I didn't. The end was well worth the wait. I purchased copies of this book as gifts and I've heard the same question over and over again...when can we expect the next one? C. Oliver Junior has written a thought provoking, exciting mystery. Its hard to believe its his first published work!

Its good. Once you get over his British writing style, its a good read. I'm only 1/2 way through, but I have found it very accessible so far. Not only does he talk about the UML diagraming, he talks about the Unified Process (in like 250 pages! - now thats a refreshing break). The book delivers what it promises. Its not a reference guide, but it is definitly *teaching* me some practical stuff.

A practical and useful approach to O-O projects, UML and UP.

This is a rare find. It is a useful combination of many related software engineering topics, with enough O-O history to provide some perspective, and enough detail on the Unified Process & the Unified Modeling Language to provide both an understanding and a practical series of steps for project success.

If your department tries to balance doing things right with doing things quickly, if you're wondering why the UML has become the de facto notation, if you're using Java and want your group to do more object-oriented approaches, if you're thinking you'd like to use Java, or you'd like to use the UML for your design notations, if you've heard object-oriented engineering can provide some benefit.. then you'll probably find this book to move to the top of your 'must read and must share' list.

If you're moving your architecture towards distributed objects and Enterprise JavaBeans, there's some useful advice on designing Java-specific objects.

It is clearly written and easy to follow, and can be read chapter by chapter or as a reference text. I would have only one suggestion for the author. He briefly mentions the similarity between O-O and the Spiral Model or the UP and the Spiral Model. Mr. Hunt would have done well to include an overview of the Spiral Model in his work. [Search the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon for more info. Our design team considers the Spiral Model an important and practical and even useful approach to software engineering projects. Combine the Spiral Model methodology for projects, the Unified Process approach to designs, and the Unified Modeling Language for design notations, and you've got what we consider to be a winning approach to object-oriented software development.

Mr. Hunt provides a valuable book on the UP and the UML with a real world perspective. We're going to buy copies of his book for our entire team.

Easily approachable and good. The book talks not just about RUP, but also about its roots (OMT, Fusion, objectory etc), and about UML. It also guides the reader through the maze of workflows in the RUP and gives advice on how to configure RUP as a lightweight process for web development. This book is a great contrast to all the other RUP books that are too theoretical to be of any use except for those who already are using RUP.
